I've been coming to Winco for over 10 years. Prices are good. My issue is the person now inspecting carts and counting items in the self checkout line. I had about 16 items. The limit is now 10. I was "turned around and now I'm now in a line 5 people deep looking at 4 empty self check out stations. Ridiculous!! read more

If I can rate it a Zero I would! The worst customer service ever. The lady who works at the self check out. Somebody needs to put her in check. I'm calling first thing tomorrow to report her horrible behavior. They also have huge rats running around the back stock. Only shopped here twice. First was the rat problem, now it's the rude customer service. She didn't wear her name tag but she is a older lady in her 60s maybe. Heavy brows and eyelashes and white foundation that doesn't even match her neck. Looks like Filipino. Very rude. Management if you see this review. I like coming here for grocery as their prices are decent. Produce are usually pretty fresh. They offer many selections from spices, canned food, snacks, deli, meats, bulk bins, etc. I really like their fried chicken and potato wedges from their hot food deli. Workers are usually pretty nice and helpful. The lines are usually long and not all checkout lines are open. They do not accept credit cards. Accepts EBT, debit card, cash or checks. Love their store hours. Plenty of parking. We need more Winco in the area. read more

I love shopping at Winco but just wish there was one closer. Both options in the Sacramento area are pretty far from Greenhaven. That said it's worth the drive or a stop by if you're already in the area. My favorite thing to do here is shop from the bulk bins! They have so many products from all sorts of spices, to pastas, tons of candy, specialty flours and much more. This is great for when a recipe calls for just a small amount, you're not stuck buying a whole bottle of a spice you may never use again or fits something you use often guaranteeing its freshness. The prices are great for all the bulk items and you can mix and match a certain area of the candy which is great for buying filler for piñatas. Their produce section is pretty large as well and well priced. My only qualm is sometimes you can find an old or moldy product (which can happen anywhere) but it seems the staff here is not as quick to find and remove it. The rest of their groceries are priced well and they have an abundance of products. I wish they stocked more healthy options when it comes to Keto breads etc. (Inked breads would be lovely). They have a large deli tea and I've heard wonderful things about their fried chicken but have yet to try it. And speaking of abundance they have to carry the worlds largest selection of buzz balls lol! I've never tried one, probably ptsd from my MD2020 days IYKYK! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I went to WinCo at 4 PM on a weekday, thinking I'd be in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Big mistake. The only thing I checked out with any speed was my patience. The line to check out? Unbelievably long. It stretched all the way to the back of the store. And where did this massive line lead? To TWO open registers. Out of SEVENTEEN. Yes, you read that right. Two open registers. Seventeen exist. Fifteen were sitting there useless, collecting dust. Meanwhile, I and everyone else in line were wasting our lives waiting to buy a few groceries. At this point, just get rid of the extra 15 registers and install more self-checkout lanes. What's the point of having all these registers if you refuse to use them? WinCo, either staff your checkouts properly or commit to self-checkout. The current system is beyond frustrating. This isn't a one-time issue--it's every single time I come here. WinCo is cheap, but the experience is absolutely not worth it. If you value your time, go somewhere else. read more

So I call in and made an order on chicken, tenders, and fries. It should be picked up by 1 pm so I get there early so I can do some shopping. I get to the deli counter area and let them know I'm there to pick up my 1pm order and wanted to add another pound on tenders. The workers tell me to come back at 1pm and they will have it ready. I get there at 1pm. They tell me that I need to prepay before I can pick it up. WOW!!!!why not tell me that initially. New procedures that I wasn't aware of. Now I have to get into those big ass lines and wait. I had alcohol so I couldn't do self check out. Took me about 25 minutes to stand in line, pay for my groceries and the special order food. Go back to the deli counter, show them my receipt and pick up my order. I'm already 30 minutes late for this event I have since Winco workers didn't tell me this new procedure. Thanks Winco! So if you have a special order. 1) Go pick up the sku numbers for your order 2) go pay at the register 3) go back to the pick up area and show your paid receipt 4) take your items and get the f out! I really do enjoy Winco, especially their bulk food section and the fact they are open 24 hours. Prices are almost on par with Walmart however their selection of some items are a little lacking compared to Winco store brand vs Great Value. My only real gripe is the inconvenience of being open 24 hours but closing off half the store late at night. I am a night owl, I will come shop at 2 am to avoid people and lines but I've learned this is a problem sometimes because they will close off sections of the store and I'm not able to get things I need. For example tonight, they had the whole meat, cheese, lunch meat and packaged food areas closed off. I couldn't buy any chicken, pork or beef cuts. Customer service is a little crappy sometimes too. I understand it's best to do stocking at night since it's busy during the day, but don't act like me and my cart are an inconvenience when you've Tetris'd boxes in the middle of the isle. Also having one clerk for checkout can cause a big back up in the line too. I know I just dumped a like of complaints but I do like their pricing and selection when I can actually shop their whole store. read more

During the last 25 years I hardly ever shopped at this Winco store and when I did it was mostly for their bulk items. I have always been impressed with the bulk items selections, but the long check out lines kept me from being a regular customer. Plus. we are pretty close to the Elk Grove - Florin Rd Safeway and this store is a few miles away. Safeway is a good upper mid-priced market and cheaper than the Bel Air across the street. Or at least they were. I'm a retired corporate buyer amongst other careers I had and I don't spend any more for food than need be. I do all our food shopping. I am a member of the Safeway rewards club and I buy stuff on sale or clearance. In the last two years their massive price increases have made me look for a better deal. I found it at Winco. My 4 star review would be 5 stars if they didn't change their damn prices overnight and they do it every night. They must have a team of people working at night changing prices. Last week Post Honey Bunches of Oats were $1.28. That is a super great deal! A few days later they were $1.58 and yesterday they were $1.78. Tomorrow who knows what they will be selling for? This makes it hard for me to stay within our budget, but overall I am saving a ton of money as their prices are very good. Now that I am shopping here most of the time I find that the checkout lines really aren't as bad as I thought before. When the line get really long more checkout stands open up. read more

I was at Winco yesterday 12/26/25 and purchased fried chicken, red potato salad and coleslaw. I always purchase the red potato salad for my husband and it's normally really good. Well yesterday totally changed both our minds. I very seldom get any of it because he eats it all, so I just eat the coleslaw. Last night I opened the refrigerator and to my surprise it was still there. I opened the container and it was mostly mayonnaise and a little bit of potatoes. I tried calling the deli today after work and no luck. I stayed online when transferred someone answered, when I said hello they hung up. read more

In general, winco used to be better a LONG time ago many years ago. I enjoy going to WinCo because they normally have very low prices compared to other places like Safeway and Save Mart. I love getting things from their bulk section since it means I only have to buy what I want. The prices are super reasonable, and on your way out, you can grab a slice of pizza for $1.25 or a drink for a dollar. I also appreciate the multiple self-checkouts that always seem to be available. Unlike Walmart, where the self-checkouts might be closed late at night, WinCo's are always open, and you can use cash and card. The downside however, you can't use a credit card or tap to pay, but overall, I really enjoy shopping there. Just avoid the busy days like Sundays because finding a cart can be a hassle. read more

Used my debit card on Monday in the self checkout and by Tuesday I had a fraud attempt on that card. Luckily, I used a debit card that I keep very little money in the checking unless I'm buying something specific. I've had the same card number for 10+ years with no issue. It's way too coincidental for me. If you're going to require cash/debit - they should take cash in the self checkout lanes. The regular lanes are too long and not enough open. I love this place! I must admit that I live in Hawaii so groceries there are so much cheaper in California. I was walking around with a big smile on my face because things are so much cheaper than at home! I didn't know where anything was so I had a little of interaction asking for help and everyone was nice. I'll be back to see my relatives and will definitely be back! read more

Absolutely zero shopping carts in the stall. Shoppers are in full Thanksgiving dinner mode! The hubby scored and found one lone cart in the parking lot and off we went to join the (literal) crowd. I'm keeping it salads until Thanksgiving dinner and needed to pick up a few salad fixings. I couldn't find the price for blueberries but fortunately Ms. Kali was 2ft across from me, stocking produce. She helped me with the price and located the additional containers of blueberries. Now to hold my breath..hoping against hope to find a ripe avocado. As I expected...no ripe avocados. Almost defeated, Max, who was stocking more avocados asked if I needed help. I shared I wanted a ripe avocado for today's salad but didn't expect to find one. Max directed another row with small, bagged avocados and score...found a bag with a few ripe ones! Shout out to Kali and Max who despite being busy swiftly stocking produce, paused to help me. Best prices in town on so many items! Very large bulk foods and produce sections. Yes, I've noticed prices increasing, especially on coffee and beef, but still better than all the competition. I would, however, implore them to hire more cashiers. They have 20 checks tanks, but I've never seen more than 5 or 6 open, even on busy weekends and holidays. read more

I go here once a week on weekends in AM, so can't vouch for later times, but Winco is my go to. I am able to get everything I need and I feel I get more savings then going to other stores. The quality of food is high as I use their deli for sandwich meats and fish as well as their meats. The one knock I have is that the workers aren't the most outgoing or friendliest. They are their to work and clock in and clock out I feel. I never get a hello or how is your day but if I ask a question, it gets answered correctly. The lines can be extended since I am their early but if they get to long, usually a couple more will open. read more

Horrible staff. Some have attitudes and think there tough. I'm walking near the meat and these employees hang around the swivel doors in the rear maybe four guys huddled up talking watching you staring as you walk by with your family. There's an Indian lady that works near the fried chicken she is terrible who hired her? Then there's an African lady i encountered there and she has the same demeanor as the Indian lady. I'm like where was the managers instinct when he was hiring them, as well as i know people can fool you in interviews nice then but when work comes they change up and get back to there original self after they get the job. read more

Today was my first visit to the WinCo Food on Sheldon Rd between Bruceville and 99. I was greeted with a smile by an employee as I entered the store. She not only welcomed me but also told me to have a great day. I encountered 3 additional employees who also said hello. The man who checked me out thanked me for coming in and tild me to have a great day. I came in only for sodas. But as I walked through I noticed the store had a great supply of produce, meats and the isles were well stocked. The only thing I didn't find was caffeine free Diet Pepsi; there's a shortage of aluminum due to the pandemic and this item is scarce everywhere. Based solely on the excellent customer service and product display, they are due 5 stars! read more

To avoid long lines shop weekdays and early if possible, they are open 24 hours. If you are not buying alcohol you can go to the self check with 15 items or less. I appreciate Winco's hours and the fact they maintain low prices given the circumstances but man. Out of 16 lanes, there's only 4 lanes open. It's ALWAYS this bad. I gotta admit this to everyone, I am a Winco junkie. I've shopped at ALL of their warehouse locations in the greater Sacramento area; Orangevale, Arden (Watt Ave.), Antelope, Roseville, Folsom, and this one which is in the north part of Elk Grove and fairly close to South Sac. However, this is location and the Antelope location are my least favorite Winco stores to do my shopping and I will go into detail with this review. The location itself (which is on Sheldon Rd. and tucked in between Bruceville Rd. and Highway 99) is fine but as many other Yelpers have stated, it is crowded and not quite the best crowd to go with it. The parking lot is an absolute ZOO and on any given day, you will see everyone with their mother, cousin, aunt, uncle, well you get the picture. I would highly avoid this place on the weekends and try to make your trip here in the morning hours if you can. Now once you make it into the store with your shopping cart, you directly make a right where they advertise specials on all types of food and beverages. The produce section can be a hit or miss as you have to make sure not to get a spoiled item since the fruits and vegetables are not as desirable as other major supermarkets. However, the real winner with this store is their bulk section (which is what all Winco stores are known for). You can find the best prices anywhere on flour, sugar, salt, nuts, cereals, rice, beans, dried fruits, pasta, spices, candy, and even pet food. Their bakery also carries a very decent selection of home-baked breads, pastries, donuts, cookies, cakes, and pies. As far as their meat section, this is another area that can be hit or miss. I personally do not buy a ton of meat items here except for boneless chicken and pork. Much of the steak, seafood, and ground beef is just average quality. But they do have a nice deli department where many of their cold cuts (turkey, ham, roast beef, etc.) taste good in a sandwich. As far as the regular name-brand items, prices are competitive with what you would find at a large-box supermarket; especially FoodMaxx and Foods Co. I do like that even with food prices skyrocketing in 2021-22, Winco does everything in their part in keeping their prices down as much as possible. Even during my visit (which was on Saturday 6/4/2022), I bought a nice loaf of freshly baked sourdough bread for $3.28, a gallon of 1% milk for $3.48, and a 40-pack of bottled water for $3.99 + CRV. All in all, if you can get past the chaos of customers and the parking situation, the Elk Grove "WinCo Foods" is a very decent place to do your grocery shopping which is why I am rating this store four stars. The public restrooms are clean, customer service (where you can purchase hard alcohol, money orders, etc.) is above average, and the cashiers are always in an upbeat positive mood. They also have several self-check out registers if you have 15 items or less. Just keep in mind that they do NOT accept credit cards so make sure you have cash, debit, or EBT cards handy. Wow. The busiest Winco I've been to... maybe cos everyone shopping for 4th. Back to back... at times you just have to fly to keep your 6 feet. Nonetheless, I bought everything I wanted. My man and kid got the stuff they needed. Meiome, mushroom Alfredo, upside down pineapple cake ingredients, beef chucks for Monday and lasagna for Sunday to feed my family. Anyways, you got to shop when you have to shop, whether it's packed or not. Thought it was more convenient to go here since on way to pick up my kid. I still prefer the Folsom, orangevale and the one in walerga. Closer. Winco, everything you could possibly need to make and store a meal. read more

WINCO needs to update, repair or replace their carts. More often than not, the carts are dirty, have broken wheels or literally smashed and put back in line. There are never enough check out lanes open resulting in 10-20 minutes wait. WINCO prices are very good but improvements are needed. read more

I like WinCo! Came here on thanksgiving eve and did some full blown shopping. Always great prices and fresh produce. Their hot foods section is tasty too. For some reason they didn't have any type of butter lettuce this time as they normally do, but plenty of other blends to choose from including organic. It's a win for winco! read more

Used to be my go to grocery store. It's a huge grocery store & the prices are mostly cheaper than majority of other stores in the area. They have a great deli section. A great place for fried chicken and sides. They are also great for ordering catering sizes of fried chicken. Sometimes the lines are long, including the self checkout. For the most part, the store is clean & aisles are stocked accordingly. As far as vegetables and fruits, it's not the freshest of the freshest, but they have a good selection. read more
