Worst pickup service ever. Set up a pick time 6pm-8pm on 2/11/2021. The automatic system text me and said not to leave to the store until after I get a notification. Well 8pm passes so I try to call the store unsuccessfully. Today 2/12 I called and reach the .com manager. She is super rude. She said was that the store is busy and the item I order was out of stock. And other than that. She can't do anything. When I ask to speak to the manager she said the person was sick. Then she say that no one can help me other than her and she already told me that she can't do anything. Anyhow I ask to be transfer to another manager. After an hour on the phone. I like this Safeway because they are open late, conveniently close to my house and they had a great organic sections. I would always come here for their organic produce but I've notice that their selection for organic produce is never good anymore. I went last night and saw flies all over the tomatoes. And a couple weeks back, all the onions were molded. And a few more weeks further back all the lemon and limes were molded. What I also notice is that they have very few organic options in their produce now. I will not buy organic produce from them anymore. Where is the ZERO star rating button?!?!?! Here we go again, here's the complaint letter I just sent to Safeway. Dear Safeway, On the evening of August 29, 2011, I was at the Safeway store on Laguna Blvd in Elk Grove, CA. I had $15 (after club card savings applied) worth of frozen foods and wanted to use the $5 off $15 Frozen Foods coupon that I had and the cashier (I believe she might be a head clerk or supervisor),named Kashmere (Cashmere?), very rudely informed me that I must first surrender all the manufacturer's coupons I had in my hand and that those are to be scanned and deducted first before she can use the $5/$15 Frozen Foods coupon. Of course after she scanned my manufacturer's coupons (I had five total, $1 each), my subtotal was less than the $15 threshold required. At this point, she made me add more items to the total in order to use that coupon. I tried to explained to her that manufacturer's coupons are a form of legal tender/payment since Safeway gets reimbursement from manufacturer's when Safeway redeems those coupons, same as cash or food stamps. I started to ask her whether she would ask a person to hand over the cash they plan to pay with first and then see if they are still at the $15 threshold? She would not hear me out, she interrupted me immediately, not allowing me to finish my sentence. She very, very, very rudely said, "Do not argue with me, I know I am right." These were her words verbatim. I was completely floored by how rude she was. Her tone of voice and demeanor were condescending, disrespectful, and extremely curt. It was simply her way or the highway. I was extremely offended. As an educated individual with a graduate degree, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect, just as I treat others with dignity and respect. I have never ever been treated so rudely by anyone except for another incident at this same Safeway store. This is the only Safeway store where I consistently have problems using coupons and where if my out of pocket payment total is low, due to paying a large portion of the total with manufacturer's coupons, that I am immediately treated with contempt and stripped of any dignity I feel I deserved as a customer and as a person. Kashmere was extremely condescending and I would not tolerate such poor customer "service." In fact, I have only received customer disservice from her as well as another cashier, Donna, who also profiles me as did Kashmere because they know I use lots of Safeway store coupons and manufacturer's coupons. I am again disappointed by the very negative attitude that Kashmere exhibited which was unbelievably impolite that my husband, who was also present, and I were simply dumbfounded by Kashmere's behavior, tone of voice, attitude, and general demeanor. Please see the link I found for your store's coupon policy and Policy #12, which very clearly states that any minimum thresholds for a discount such as this Frozen Foods $5 off $15 will have been met after Club card discounts are applied and BEFORE manufacturer's coupons are deducted. Clearly, Kashmere needs remedial training in customer service as well as Safeway's coupon policy. I would appreciate a quick response to my comments to you today as well as would like to speak with the District Manager, whom I have spoken to previously about the extremely poor customer service and negative shopping environment at this Safeway Store on Laguna Blvd in Elk Grove, CA. This is an on-going problem that apparently has not been resolved. I rarely shop at this store now as I have gotten frustrated and worn out from this kind of treatment. I wanted to call the store manager to convey the problems I encountered rather than write a negative review, but after terminal hold for repeated rounds of the automated message, I'd had all I could stand and hung up. What has me upset was not: 1) that it took 50 minutes from showing up for my appointed time for grocery pick up to when I got out of there and that is seemed more like my order had some gotten lost in the system and they were only just pulling it together after I arrived and called. 2) that it is frustrating to try and call (per instructions) the number to let them know you are there and to have to do it over and over and over before it stops telling you, "this mail-box has not been set up" and you get a real live person to answer. 3) because the person who was supposed to load my groceries started to do it and messed up my lift-gate because as he put it, "I didn't know how it worked." But it was because this was following me telling him, "There is a button to push in the middle and the back will open automatically, when you are done push the button for it to close." He didn't listen or pay attention. I was especially upset by this because the first time ever I came out there for grocery pick up, that guy also didn't listen and follow directions because I had told him, "I'll push the interior button to make the gate go up, push the button on it to close when you are done." Instead, the minuted the gate started to rise, he started trying to shove it up manually and this messed up its electronics. It stopped, and then it would no longer respond to the buttons. It wouldn't go up on its own, it wouldn't go down on its own, and worse yet, it would not acknowledge being closed once it had been manually shut so I spent a week with the interior lights remaining on, a warning light flashing in the dashboard, and warning sound going non stop all the while I drove anywhere with a lift that wouldn't open. To get my load of groceries out I had to craw over the back seat to reach and pull them out. Next time I came out, I think it was the same person still couldn't manage to push a button and get the gate to operate so I'm having to be out there messing around with it til I can finally get it to close and another week of a nonfunctioning rear lift-gate. Today I feared a repeat of that problem and I sure do not want it to happen again. I had hoped the manager would address the problem and speak with the staff to tell them, "I know you are busy and trying to get things done and move on to the next, but when someone is giving you instruction, pay attention, make sure you have heard, understand, and can follow them." PS: the following morning, I have a neighbor come tell me the back of my vehicle was open. This is thanks to the electronics of my lift-gate being screwed-up by having been manhandled on Saturday and now not functioning properly. When I got home from the store I had to mess around with it to get it open so I could retrieve my groceries, and mess around with it more to get it closed; but apparently, some time after I walked away it automatically opened itself. I am not happy. I would be even more upset had someone come along and stolen the nonperishables I had left in there overnight along with other items of value I didn't have the energy to deal with right away after getting home and dealing with the perishables and my malfunctioning lift-gate. Every time I come in here I regret it. They never have enough checkout lanes open and the line for self checkout is always really long. I always think I'll come in here for a couple things real quick because I'm already in this shopping center and it takes so long to checkout I could have driven across the street and bought what I needed at Bel Air and come back to safeway and the person in front of me would still be in line. This is my go-to Safeway location... Well, this is the only Safeway location I am aware of in Elk Grove as I am still learning the area. The produce is so much better than what I am used to compared to my old Safeway in SF. The meat section could use some work...They always seem to be running out or low on items. For some reason, the tres leches cake here is amazing. I've had quite a selection of tres leches from fancy restaurants to Mexican bakeries to local stores. I think Safeway takes the cake...the tres leches cake. What an odd find! They have self checkout which I love...I get in and out of here faster than waiting in line for a checker. Now, the reason why I give this Safeway 5 stars is because they have mostly everything! Home decor, home garden, groceries, a red box! And so much more! I usually make Safeway my last stop whenever I am grocery shopping. I always save the best for last. Their deals are amazing! If you do not have a Safeway just for U account, I would highly recommend it! They have weekly coupons that are on their website and usually their deals are awesome! It's a great way to save and the items are usually name brand foods! Wouldn't you think if you pay for something and it is accidentally left on the checkout counter, someone would yell out to you or maybe even run after you? Well not this past Friday (06/01). On my lunch break I went to Safeway and bought my lunch and a 12pk of beer for later. A lady in line at the 20 items or less lane(#1) saw I was in uniform and let me go in front of her to save me time. Because of this nice gesture, I repeatedly thanked her after i paid and Picked up my grocery bag that I packed, eventhough there was a bagger standing there, and walked to the opposite end of the store to my car. Half way to work, I realized I didn't remember grabbing the beer and turned around and rushed back. As I walked to check stand one, there stood Cassie laughing with one of the baggers at how I paid for the beer and didn't take it, and the beer was still sitting there! I grabbed the beer and said "it would have been nice for you to let me know I left behind my purchase". She looked at me a rolled her eyes! This review is to warn you to not use their Drive Up services. I picked up an order on September 13th and received under 1/2 of my groceries I paid for. I just now got refunded my money and that's because I filed a dispute with my bank, because the customer service is so bad. I went to pick up my order and realized there were only 3 bags for $150 worth of groceries. I first called the store to ask for assistance. Some man answered the phone just saying "hello." I asked if this was Safeway and he took a moment to reply and said "yes". It was so awkward. I said I needed help with my order and he said "um okay I'm going to check on that." I paused waiting for him to ask me questions like my name or the order number and he didn't say anything so I just gave my name. He just said "okay I'm going to have someone look at that." I just hung up. It was so awkward and not going anywhere. I went inside the store and asked for the manager so they can take a look at my odd order and hopefully help grab the rest of my items. I got put with Rosemary. I explained I had missing items and she basically said she didn't know where the rest of the items were and apologized. Again, super awkward. No offering to help, just very flat and close ended. I just kindly asked to refund my order because at this point it was a really uncomfortable situation. She said she would only refund what I had in hand. She gave me back my $70 (my order was $150, that much was missing and no one seemed to care!) she said to get the rest of my money back I had to call Safeway customer service. Makes sense, I paid online on the app and not in store. I left the store feeling so weird and uncomfortable with how the employees were towards me. I contacted Safeway customer care and explained my issue. They were adamant I needed to provide them with a full blown list of the items I'm claiming were missed to make sure those missing items weren't just out of stock. (Why would they be if I was charged for them and the app said it was all ready for pick up?) again, strange. But I went into the email and typed out every missing item and emailed it over. It took a few days for a reply which makes sense. Except the reply was telling me they'll initiate a refund for the missing amount, but they didn't include the sales tax. I replied asking what about the sales tax? I literally don't have a grocery in hand, I should have a full refund. They replied the next day apologizing and stating they're going to give that back too. They said it'll be around 3-5 days until I get the refund. I'm thinking cool, this is finally going to be resolved. Nope! I get a refund the next day for the sales tax amount of $7. I was patient and waited 10 days before I decided I needed to follow up on my refund. I did so twice within a 4 day period. No one replied to me and still hasn't. On 9/29 I decided to just finally call my bank and file a dispute because Safeway has had nearly $100 of mine for over 2 weeks for items I never got. My bank gave me back my money today and this is finally over. My bank resolved the missing item refund for me, not Safeway. Between the poor and awkward customer service and lack of care, I am really so shocked. The reviews below about this location is very spot on. Just beware when shopping here. Yes they are but that is a corporate issue, not this location's specific issue. Have there been staffing shortages during the pandemic? Also yes, but give people a break. The deli manager or store director really needs to watch how welcoming and friendly his employees are. Only on about 3 separate occasions have I had a nice interaction with the workers! One was a young girl who was all alone on the counter while helping my girlfriend and I and another customer requesting hot foods. She was very nice and helpful after the 2 sandwiches and cold cut meats that we got. The other 2 times was a nice woman named frances and the other was an older woman who's name I didn't get. This a review of The Safeway InstaCart delivery Setvice The Service is great, you get it in 2 hours or less, a person shops for you, you can chat with them, add or delete items in real time and also see in real time when your items are delivered and delivery people and shoppers are excellent. That gets five stars. The Disconnect is the price. Not the price of the delivery fee or other fees but the price of the food. Huge difference!!! My receipt was $148.00 the price for InstaCart was $173.00. Do they give you notice. Well kinda. It's written in White on a White Background and extremely hard to see. They don't reflect or honor in store sales or membership discounts. That blows especially when your shopper doesn't understand that either. Even though this store is always busy, they're customer servicing is on point. All the cashiers are so personable and care about me as a customer. The store is always clean and fully stocked. Love their fruits, veggies and meats. Not to mention they have a great bakery selection. The only downfall I would say is how busy it could get. And when it's busy, there's always a lack of registers open. I recommend going early in the morning or at night after 9pm. I've never reviewed a grocery store but this horrible place sells imitation crab as Alaskan Snow Crab. It's labeled as Alaskan snow crab but the first item on the list of ingredients is fish. Truly shameful. I officially hate Safeway and am done with this location if not all. In this same trip, we bought some sourdough that's supposedly cooked fresh daily. Meat section. They only had a marinated version of a type of meat out and I asked a guy behind the counter if they had any that wasn't marinated.. He checked what they had out.. none. But, he didn't leave it at that and tell me i'm assed out. He checked if they had any in the back and sure enough.. I got what I was looking for. I appreciated the effort. Safeway has it all. Even a Starbucks. The deli makes great sandwiches. I love their dips. They have a bakery and you definitely want to be a member because with the Safeway card you save mucho there. The lady giving the tour greeted us and I work with special needs which she took everything into consideration. She made sure all allergies where checked. The low score is for a $100 gift card purchased and when my 12 yr old went to use it , it had already been used and there has been no resolve with the visa company. Terrible. Just Terrible. Stopped in to get ONE item. I arrived at 8:48 pm (I know the time because of the car app I use). I parked near Autozone and entered using the west entrance. It took --no joke-- 22 minutes to buy one thing. Most of that time was spent in ridiculously long checkout lines. When I was FINALLY done, I went to exit the store, but I was locked in! I approached an employee to unlock the door, but was told that they lock the west exit at 9 pm and I'd have to exit through the east door. I looked at my phone and found that it was 9:10pm. It was dark out and that meant that I'd have to walk around the entire building to get to my car. First of all, it should NOT take 22 minutes to to get in/out of the store. Secondly, it is a safety hazard to lock guests in the store.... what if there was a fire or an emergency? Thirdly, The store had no signage indicating that they lock that door at 9 (there was no sign inside or outside). This is completely unacceptable. Guests should not be forced to walk through a dark lot at night when there is a perfectly operational door with a well-lighted area close to many parking spaces. The store has no interest in the convenience or safety of its guests. They can't be bothered to appropriately staff their store, let alone hang a sign. To top it off, when I arrived home, I noticed on my receipt that my Rewards number wasn't applied, and I was charged $5 MORE for my item than I should have been.
