My review is for the meat department. Most likely the worst and most unskilled butchers around. Packages have bloody meat, steaks had a thick fat slab that you're paying for, my salmon was full of bones despite it looking like it was deboned. I frequent this market a lot. residing down the road its super convenient, especially a late night last minute run. store is super clean, shelfs are always stocked and I've never really had any issues finding anything, if I did an employee is a few steps away. on 05/17/25 I approached Kendra because of an issue that occurred with my shopping. without getting into specifics Kendra, Sara, James (Manager) helped me out with my issue and provide outstanding customer service. there aren't enough thank you's for helping me out and going above and beyond to make sure I left happy. read more

My visit was a Grand Opening which had all what you expect: new, modern, clean, fully stocked, plenty of customers, plenty of staff on duty ( although more than a few were standing idle not being aware deep lines of customers were waiting for service). That's the fault of management, leadership and training failing to their efficiently managing available staff. That said, is the store going to look this good 6 months from now? What I know about the next Safeway 2 miles away, a definite no. Read the reviews on that store to prove my point. Safeway is too expensive in a tough economy. The Wincos and Walmarts are seeing a reduction of business with more competitive prices than Safeway membership. Safeway works for shoppers that can operate the brand app and the patience to search for the coupons and deals. For the rest, go somewhere else for grocery. Handmade sandwiches and prepared Chinese-American food available. read more

Customer service is terrible and because there is always a line in self check out. There are 20 self check out terminals, but only 6 are open. Seriously, why? on top of that if you mention to customer service how counterintuitive it is to have closed-self-checkouts and only 1 check out line open, they give attitude, yuck. I'll be taking my money elsewhere. read more

I am consistently mischarged for items. It is a big game between downloading coupons clipping them or buying the right multiple or just a regular sale price it is so ridiculous. It is a game that I never win. Very frustrating for your employees also. read more

The Safeway policies are held up to the detriment of customer service. I like to be listened to when I buy a defective product that is unusable to me and to return a product without having to defend my decision and be looked at as though I'm trying to 'pull one over'. The checkers, for the most part, are slow, almost to the point of incompetency. I've asked that my groceries be fully loaded into my cart (I'm elderly) and have been given eye rolls as the checker starts on the next customer before finishing with me. (Numerous times.) I try to support Safeway, as part of my income is from my late husbands Safeway retirement account but the new Safeway in Elk Grove on Bruceville is eating away at my loyalty and sentimental attachment. This is a management problem and enough of one that drives me to leave a bad review. I had high hopes for a great shopping experience when they opened but it's soured. To explain how Safeway policy works: I buy a deli pack of cheese for ten dollars. I get home and find, after a few days, the deli cheese is defective (mushy from water in the pack and hardened and dry on the other end). I return the product on my next visit in a zippy. They say they will return my money in a card I have to spend at Safeway. So once they have my money, even though I've returned my product, I will never have my money back to spend as I please. AND I'll be treated as though it's my fault the cheese is wet and mushy and dry at the top. I go to the deli section and find that ALL of the cheeses like the one I purchased has the same problem and take the packets over to the customer service. FINALLY I'm validated but still don't get my money back except in a form that lets Safeway keep what I've spent. I say, buyer beware. read more

I'm shocked by the experience I had today!! The Chinese food has no flavor and the hot foods suck! My Son and I ordered food from the hot area and it was dry and was tasteless. If dry and hard flavor was what they were going for they succeeded! I'm also sorry to say the check out stands are a nightmare. It takes forever and the baggers don't know what they are doing! They were attempting to bag our hot food with our frozen food. This was totally unacceptable. The baggers looked lazy and seemed annoyed that we asked to separate our hot foot from our freezer food. Honestly, I'm not sure if I should come here anymore unless it's for something quick. The quick checkout stands are spacious but if I have more than 15 items I'd prefer to have someone else do it for me. Not impressed!!!! read more

Customer service. Only one lane open for registry.line had 7 customers behind us .my husband and myself are grocery store business people since 1973. We told the checker she had a huge line since she never looked up and said maybe you should call another checker.She told the guy that was there to relieve her for a break and his reply was I am not not going to worry about it. I don't need to get off work and spend 20 minutes in line for idiots that do not care about working or keeping customers happy. Love that we have a Safeway close by, however I went today and the meat department was packed with customers due to a sell going on. I wave to the older gentlemen (who was dress in all back who seems to be the head of the meat department since he was ordering around the other people in the back) to ask him a question. He made eye contact and proceeded to ignore me and went about his business. Also, while checking out one of the checker was rude as well I asked a question and she answered condescendingly as if I should know the answer to a question I asked. 4/26 approx 5:30pm I started a drive up order. The pickup time was originally 7pm, by the time I checked out it said 8pm. At 6:47pm I received a notification that 2 of my items were out of stock. For 1 item I chose the refund option. For the 2nd item I used chat to ask if another flavor was available, no reply. At 10:06 I called the store because the app still said "shopping in progress". Joe answered the customer service line. He was very apologetic and informed me that the drive up person was gone for the day. Joe stated he would take my name and number and have the person call me first thing in the morning for an expedited pickup. Before we could finish that conversation, Sarah, took the phone from Joe and had me explain everything all over again. She never apologized, she interrupted me as I was speaking, active listening is not her strong suit. She said someone would call me in the morning. Imagine my surprise on 4/27 at 10am I still hadn't heard from the store. I checked the app and it still had my order as "shopping in progress". There was a reschedule button so I used it. I called the store at 1:21pm and spoke with Max. He was extremely nonchalant and uninterested. I stated I was supposed to receive a call for an expedited pickup up here says "oh, yeah well it's almost ready" I asked him to cancel it. He didn't cancel the order, instead he marked it as "ready for pick up" him saying "oh yeah" lets me know that he saw the note and decided not to contact me about my order. Been to this Safeway on it's opening day and came back today for some pasta goodies and some flowers. Unfortunately, the entire time I was followed by workers throughout the entire time I was shopping with my brother in law and sister. There were no grounds for us to be followed, as we literally had pasta sauce, flowers, and yogurt and the entire time we were followed and stared at by countless employees. It truly felt like we were being treated like criminals or some petty thieves. This was such a rude, disheartening, and disgusting experience. read more

Liquor is all locked. You must click a button for help and the. wait forever for someone to come unlock the door... then they won't let you continue shopping - they want to take it up front. I'm over 50 years old... I'm not a child and don't appreciate being treated like a child. When asked about the policy, the manager said, "Walmart does it too." Not sure aspiring to Walmart customer service is what I'd be aiming for in a new store. Beyond their asinine policies, the selection at this store is limited, they only have plastic bags (no paper), and the baggers smash your produce and soft goods. Not going back. This is for DUG (drive up & go) l wasn't able to pick up my groceries in time so the next day I checked the app it said it's been partially refunded. I called in and ask why and a lady from DUG was very rude and didn't know how to handle my case. She said they put back my groceries and refunded me but on my end I see that it's been picked up at 10am which I never did. She gave me the runaround not solving anything and told me to call customer service because she didn't know how to do my refund. Now I have to waste my time calling customer service when they should have just inputed the correct thing on the computer. My refund can't go through because you guys put I picked it up... idiots! The store is nice. We ordered a Thanksgiving dinner from the deli. Asked to pick it up the afternoon before Thanksgiving day. When we get there to pick it up, the guy in the deli hands over a completely frozen dinner. Everything was frozen as hard as a rock-turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing. My husband asked the young guy working in the deli what we do with a frozen turkey (the turkey is already cooked and just needs reheating). He responded that we just put it in the oven frozen and cook it longer. Don't think so. Putting a solidly frozen already cooked turkey in the oven until thawed will just result in a dry turkey by the time it is hot. I've purchased these dinners before from other grocery stores and they always come thawed and ready to heat. When we went to talk to the meat counter for advice, the guy working there said that we could put the turkey in a water bath and change the water every hour until it was thawed and it might be thawed by Thanksgiving day. Well what is the point of buying a prepared turkey dinner for convenience just to have to change a water bath every hour? Had to go to another grocery store and get a last minute turkey and start from scratch. read more
