this is the worst experience I have ever had at any grocery store. They claimed to be open until 3 PM on Christmas and tried to close before the given time. They weren't letting people into the store and were also kicking people out.They even threatened to put hands on people. If you didn't know, it is actually illegal to close before a promised time. Overall the store was pretty nice! The staff were very helpful, the isles were pretty organized, but when you go to check out it'll take you 30-45 minutes just to get through your whole cart. The register stops you every time you don't put the item in a bag, and then it'll alert a worker to help you, and it went on for a long period of time. I wouldn't recommend this store. Everyone here is nice. There is plenty of parking and the store is clean and organized making it easy for shopping. Thankfully they have self checkout too. It's conveniently located in Estes Park at the bottom of Rocky Mountains entrance. If you're going camping or staying overnight it's a great place for last minute needs. read more

A fairly standard Safeway for a small town with only one grocery store. The stock is often limited with only a few of each item. The produce section is more expansive and fresher than I would have anticipated. There is also only a limited selection of wine compared to the beer. The pharmacy at this location messed up my prescription, charging me $5.65 for something that costs less than $0.50. I only noticed after I got all the way home that they gave me 2 instead of 30. Got to remember not to trust retail pharmacies, especially when they have a sign like this taped to their front counter. This is not the first time this store has messed up my prescription. I believe that if they projected less attitude and focused on delivering a positive message in these times, the long lines elsewhere in the store would be tolerated much better. The only real grocery store in town and located within walking distance from the Stanley Hotel, in which we were staying. Typical Safeway/Tom Thumb store. Clean and spacious with a nice variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The pharmacy area is small but had what we needed, like cold medicine and decongestants. They only offer beer instead of the vast wine varieties most groceries usually provide, which was a bummer. The employee at the register was very nice and welcoming. read more

Midweek after July 4th weekend. Shelves are well -stocked, but checkout is torture. Plenty of floor staff, but only 2 checkouts operating of the 7 possible. 12 cart backup in both lines and self-service is just as bad. We were in line for 25 minutes. Again, I'm finding myself writing a bad review for Safeway! The Customer Service Manager lied and blamed Redbox for placing their box outside, when in fact it's Safeway who wanted it outside. So now it's sleeting and raining outside with predictions of snow and instead of the red box inside they have charcoal bags into old place. The main reason I go to Safeway when I do is for the Redbox. All the other Safeways have their Redbox inside, but no we're at 8,000 plus feet and our Safeway puts their Redbox outside. Horrific customer service!!! I ran into buy a bag of ice and got in line behind one other customer that was just finishing up with their transaction. The cashier looked up at me and I said hello. No response. I stood for another couple of minutes while he finished up and took his time putting the cash in the drawer, still not acknowledging me. I waited for him to finish and then said, "Can I get a bag of ice please?" He looked up at me, turned off his light and said, "I'm closed. You'll have to go see her down the way." We were staying at a VRBO cabin in Allenspark. There were 12 in our party, ages 3 to 66. Safeway offered the best option for all the groceries we needed during our week-long stay. Our dinner entrees included spaghetti and meatballs, hamburgers, hotdogs, grilled chicken and chicken wings. Lunches relied heavily on meats and cheeses from the deli. Meals were rounded out with a variety of fruits and veggies. I'd recommend getting the customer savings card, if you're going to be in the area for more than one trip to Safeway. One example was 17 cents per ear of corn versus 59 cents without the card. Most items purchased had a store discount with the card. All the cashiers were friendly . . . downright chatty actually. The counter crew in the deli were helpful as well. We never had a problem with parking . . . always close to the entrance. read more

We stopped in this Safeway to get some supplies and I was surprised by how well stocked it was and that it had a great variety of nicer gourmet-type food items (as opposed to just basic stuff). This place totally blows, except that it's the only real grocery store in town. Oh, and the checkers are nice. But other than that it sucks. Especially in the summer, when it is overrun with tourists. The prices are WAY higher than the Safeways in Boulder. The produce is questionable at best. They don't even carry shallots. But, sometimes it's better than driving all the way to boulder. So, if you don't live up here, and are just visiting, do yourself a favor and do your grocery shopping before you come to town. What's not to like? Big supermarket with everything you need- great fresh produce and meat, a bakery (donuts!), a deli, a pharmacy. Ample parking. Yes it's packed! You are in a tourist destination and this is the best grocery store in town! Peanuts, firewood, bandaids, aluminum foil for the campers, real food and groceries for the local households. Went to Safeway in Estes Park and it was the worst experience I've had at a grocery store ever. Everything in the store was completely picked over which I can deal with but the person who checked us out was so disrespectful. Michael was not even at the checkout when we went over there so we asked for assistance. He came over and we bought beer and he was downright nasty to us. He proceeded to literally throw our groceries at us and couldn't even lend us the decency to say have a goodnight or something when we said it first to him. I had a Safeway food stocker tell me off today because I walked 5 feet down an aisle the wrong way (they have those walk-this way signs on the floor. I walked that direction because there was no one that way and a person in the aisle that I would have to be within 6 feet of if I had gone the "right" way. Since Colorado state requirements to stay 6 feet away have greater authority than little stickers on a grocery floor, I went the way that keeps the state-required social distancing. The Safeway employee was really snappy with me, without looking at the circumstances. So to that employee--you really need to get a clue. read more

OMFG I would advise to avoid this place at all costs. Parking - nightmarish. Once inside - there were so many people I felt like it was Black Friday at Walmart when Furbies were popular. Pricing - confusing. They'll list the "membership" price as the obvious price, and the "non-membership" price in tiny font where you don't even notice it. Check-Out - Every line was at least 8 people deep, I waited in line for self-check out in hopes of getting out faster than humanly possible. The people behind me kept touching me and asking if I could go yet so they could hurry up and get out. I've only ever been that ass-to-elbow crammed at a concert. I spent $80 on two bags of groceries, because I wasn't a member and was so close to a break down that I didn't have the emotionally energy to see what I would take to save almost 50% (AKA what I thought I was going to spend). I barely made it to the car before having a complete panic attack, then had to fight my way out between people speeding through the lanes and large groups of people meandering at their leisure, mean-mugging all vehicles with an "I-Dare-You" look. There's not enough prozac in the world to make this place tolerable, and you couldn't afford it after buying your groceries there anyway. read more

Nothing amazing about this location, but nothing overly fancy. The gas station is exceptionally cheap and you'll rack up gas rewards quickly, being that this is the only real grocery store in a major tourist town and the prices (being that they're Safeway's in the first place) somewhat reflect that. They're not astronomical, but neither are they fantastic. The service is good, though for some reason the "Just For U" deals I get "added" to my Safeway card account via their mobile app never seem to transmit correctly, so they always necessitate manual adjustments or refunds in order for me to get the promised deal. That's not really a detractor from the general service of this location, mind you; in fact, it stands in their favor that they're usually willing to get everything fixed as quickly as possible, but it reflects on the business as a whole and the one time that they wouldn't take care of it at the checkstand when I was there was a hassle. It may have only been thirty cents off the price of a can of olives that time, but customers large and small should be treated equally and I, like many other Estes residents, come through the store several times per week. Sean was working in the deli, we went up to him to order and he gave us attitude saying "we could just get some pre made ones" as he continued to make other sandwiches. You could tell he was in an awful mood by the way he talked to his coworkers "I said what's out is fine" and so forth. It was extremely off putting. Best grocery store outside a National Park!! We have been to most national parks and this is by far the best grocery store we have encountered. The fruit is fresh. Their prices are exceptional. Sign up for their rewards card. Only takes a few minutes. I run in a couple of times and just get what I need. From steaks for the grill. Eggs for breakfast. Toiletries for the house. Very helpful staff. And check out is quick and very friendly. Really lucked out on this store. read more
