I love their caramel apples but I got one today and there was mold on the bottom and the apple was rotting. Very disappointing.

Huge selection of chocolate cramped into a little shop. Staff is really cool. If you need a souvenir box of chocolates to bring home, this is the place. They have plenty of premade assortments. They also have a bunch of different size gift boxes for custom assortments. They're happy to put a ribbon on boxes for you at no charge. read more

Who doesn't love chocolate everything?! I'm an obvious chocolate lover so of course I added this to my itinerary. The choices are endless. They've basically covered everything except the cash register in chocolate. Major credit for limitless options. It took me several minutes to finalize the impossible decision. Because I'm a s'mores girly, I opted for the chocolate dipped concoction of Graham crackers, marshmallows, and peanut butter. The aesthetic was on point. See picture! Decorated so adorably. Unfortunately the taste didn't quite match. The chocolate tasted minty? Not even like natural mint flavor but more like the taste of too much extract. This item wasn't advertised as something with mint included and it certainly wasn't welcome in a s'mores treat. Not sure if they add the mint flavor to all of their chocolate but be aware! It really messed with the flavor IMO. Ultimately it was a bit of a miss for me given the flavor. The service wasn't much to write home about either honestly but the employees weren't rude just not friendly or welcoming either. I'd skip this in favor of one of these other treat shops. read more

Delicious things but be warned about the Sugar Free treats - they are LAXATIVES. They contain Maltitol which can cause bloating, gas and diarrhea. We were right by Rocky Mountain National Park, so of course we had to stop in Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! While it's not the original, it was still a fun little experience. The shop was easy to find in a central location in Estes Park. It's on the smaller side, but very nice. The store is clean and smells amazing! The lady that helped me was very nice and quick. I opted for a caramel apple and a peanut butter cup for my husband. The peanut butter cup was huge! I didn't taste it, but my husband said it was delicious! They have a great selection of treats and I will certainly be back when we come back to the area. read more

I was super stoked to see this chocolate shop when I stopped for lunch. It's not a large shop by any means, but it does offer a great selection of chocolates. The prices are more expensive, I got 4 items for $20. However, chocolate does not come cheap and I found their prices to be reasonable. The staff member who helped me out was nice and to the point. I was in and out in about 5 minutes. The chocolate itself is made very well and wasn't hard when I bit down. It melts in your mouth and is pretty good. Sadly two of the items that I got (dipped twinkie and smores) were made with mint chocolate. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I do not like mint chocolate and nowhere did it state that these items were made with it. So that was $12 down the drain being $6 a piece. The white chocolate cherries, however, AHmazing! Overall, a nice chocolate shop to browse around and take a couple pieces home. read more

I went to Rocky Mountain Chocolates in Estes Park today, May 16 around 4:15 pm to purchase 4 truffles as a treat. There were 2 customers in front of me. Truffles are $3.79 each so a box of 4 is around $16 with tax. Definitely a treat. The quality is always good. Much to my dismay, the person working smushed two truffles together and then the other two no then shoved the 4 into this large bag relative to the truffles. Usually, they would package truffles in a box as they are pricey. I had to ask for a box and then the cashier took them out of the bag and left them sideways together in the box. It is definitely not the service I have received from other outlets of Rocky Mountain Chocolates before. It wasn't because they were busy. I definitely won't be back. There are many small businesses in Estes Park that sell sweets. Hopefully one of them will give you better service for what you pay. If you really want truffles from here, ask if you can box your own. read more

Visited the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory located at this location in Estes Park, with Hubs and my parents after finishing our drive of Peak to Peak Scenic Byways, Saturday June 13th 2009. I feel like a kid in a candy store but this time around this candy store is filled with chocolate goodness to my hearts desire. This store is tiny mind you, but with the aroma of chocolate that fills the air indeed took my breathe away. Which to choose? What chococolate and things covered with chocolate to purchase, one might ask. Follow your hearts desire and you'll definitely find something you might like. As for me, I decide the Raspberry and Key Lime Barks. Though I cant deny the chocolate barks are on a pricey side, I like the Raspberry Chocolate Barks better as compared to the Key Lime flavor. As for Hubs, he prefers Key Lime. The sweetness level is definitely on "HIGH" alert. Just a little bit pieces to indulge that chocolate bark purchase at a time. Complete tourist trap. Don't fall for it. -Unfriendly staff who continued to just stare at us without bothering to ask if we needed help. What, did they think we came to steal fudge chocolates from their glass cases? -Prices are insane, even for the Estes Park/ Rockies area. Two little fudge 'mountaintops' are made to be heavy on the scale so you'll be walking out of there with a much lighter wallet for a few fudge candies. -In the end, it's not worth it to waste time and money for candies that, unlike their brand name, are NOT MADE IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN AREA. read more

The lady in the morning at around 10am was a bit unpleasant - I asked if it would get busy and sarcastically said it is busy every day (well sorry for asking!). Then I asked about cutting the apple for later and she gave another annoyed laden tone reply (sorry for being so ignorant about it!) **this is the first encounter of this kind I have had in my visit to Colorado so far the last 3 days - everyone has been so friendly to this Cali girl** I got 2 dark chocolate covered pretzels, s'more stick, chocolate covered marshmallow and chocolate covered apple. This place was really nice. Although they don't seat people (which is understandable since it's a candy shop), the place is very clean. Although some people find this unprofessional, they made the chocolate right in front of me (of course, that was to restock shelves, not have freshly made chocolates)! My brother also got something, and he really loves it. Also has little gifts for family and friends. I got a caramel apple (since I'm the black sheep of the family) and my parents didn't get anything. This is a very nice place, and you should stop here for a snack/dessert. read more

The gourmet caramel apples are amaaaaazing... I got one that was covered in peanut butter, white chocolate, marshmallows. The covering was at least half an inch thick, and was absolutely mouth watering. I couldn't stop myself. One suggestion though, do not go to the Chocolate Factory first, and THEN go eat next door, outside. Big mess. read more

This is really unlike me to think badly of a chocolate place, because...it's chocolate! How can things go wrong in a place that has chocolate?!? Oh, it's possible... Well, it starts with the service. I stopped in after I was done with the Catch The Glow parade. I'm guessing this lady was really bummed she had to work because when I walked in, she didn't bother to turn around until I closed the door and just stood there. She literally turns around and says, "Ya?" Not "Hi," not "How can I help?" It really was, "Ya?" And in the most I-really-don't-care voice, too while she just stayed by the window as though I was asking for directions or something instead of being an actual customer. So then I actually had to say..."Uh, I'd like to buy some chocolate." Her response? ..."Ok." Luckily I knew what I wanted, but this lady just made it sooo clear that she did NOT want to be there, and did NOT want to help me. So to make small talk (and lighten the friggin' mood), I could see the parade clearly visible from her window - so I said, "Well, at least you can see the parade from your window! That's nice!" I think I'm making myself sound more bubbly than I was, but I've been to Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory for years and this was the first time I've felt that I just should've just left instead of having the gall to actually bother this woman. And when I say I know RMCF, I mean I've been visiting the one in Boulder on the Pearl Street Mall since the 90's, to going to the one in the Loveland outlet mall a couple weeks ago! That's a long time of gratitude for making my favorite chocolate that's going to be cut off because of this experience! That. Says. A. Lot, people! But I digress...I place my order, make a very abundant "0" where the tip would go, and leave. Now it's easy to forget such a negative woman (because I have chocolate!!), but now to the product... I get a specific chocolate where the nut-to-chocolate ratio greatly factors in to the cost. But when I get just the crumbs swirled in, and spending the price per pound for this product on just chocolate, then we have a problem. This is my favorite thing to order...ever, and I just spent a lot for just chocolate with nary an actual nut mixed in (insert childish giggle, but rolls eyes since we're adults). I understand that Macadamia Nuts are expensive, but if that's what I'm paying for, I better get a good deal in the chocolate that I'm buying! Such a disappointing visit and, since I'm a sucker, I'll probably visit again - but if that lady is still working there, I will walk out. For me to walk away from chocolate? She had stopped by to visit before her trip. I was thrilled. When I realized she was going to be in Estes the day before my surgery, I wanted to send her something special to let her know I love her. After searching the Internet I found the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. When I called them for help in picking out something for my sister, they were very helpful. We decided on Chocolate covered Strawberries, (my sisters favorite). I received a phone call from my sister on there arrival. They were beautiful, big and delicious. You helped me make a memory. I was visiting in town for a couple days last week and absolutely love chocolate so of course I planned to stop by. The first night in town, at 5:45pm, I walked up to the doors and noticed they were locked, but the "open" sign was still lit up. (states open until 6pm). I was annoyed but figured I would go back the next day on my way out of town. I went back at 11 the next morning (it says open 10-6 on the website), and again the "open" sign was lit but the door was locked. A post it was attached stating "be back at 11:30!". I got a pecan caramel apple.. The taste of the caramel was not a good taste and the apple was soft not crisp. I saw her pull it off the top cabinet and it was the last one. The middle cabinet must have all the fresh apples. Highly disappointed and to top it off the cashier was not friendly at all. I went there when I went to Estes Park for a weekend with some friends. Their selection in apples wasn't great and the service was terrible. When I was asking a friend if she remembered the kind of apple I usually get the lady at the register rudely interrupted to make it known that their selection was different. When I then asked if I could look at what they had she looked and me like I was a complete idiot and then pointed to a sign in the corner with all the flavors. Nice little store. The layout of the store is a bit small. Didn't understand how its a factory other then one small area in the back for making chocolate. When I think chocolate factory I think something amazing and grand! Found it to be a bit pricy for chocolate as well. I think they could rethink their prices as I am sure they are making at least 90% profit. Not busy and service seems nice. Nice place to stop however not a highlighted stop during my trip. Normally I LOVE LOVE RMCF - Caramel apples are my faves. Then I read Englan S. review from 12.09.16 - it was almost exactly what I was going to say. I, too, ordered a Pecan Caramel Apple (12.10.16). I wondered if they changed their caramel recipe because the caramel was awful...It was way too sweet - almost like a candied apple and the layer was too thin (kind of like a candied apple ;) ). Caramel is supposed to be creamy and buttery - not just sweet. Disappointing for the Estes Park location. Will try others - just to make sure it was just a one location thing! read more

Don't wast your time or money it's overpriced and terrible quality maybe if they had a better attitude it would reflect and the taste of their food. There was hair and brought mine and my sons chocolate and the old lady doesn't ever wear a hairnet. If you want good chocolate go anywhere else in town as there are hundreds of other candy shops this is the oldest and the worst one in town please save yourself the trouble. As long as your money is nice to you but if you walked out without buying something into work and I mean nothing in the store is less than $10 and nothing is worth more than about three. I thought I would give it another try because we were at the grocery store near by. Well what do you know same grouchy lady working the counter still unpleasant. Customer service is everything! I like the chocolate very much but I got a big peanut butter cup and the chocolate was very good but it really didn't taste very much like peanut butter in the center. I like more of a peanut butter taste. The cherry cordials were fine. I liked the milk chocolate almond bark too but really I guess I would have been as satisfied with a big Hershey's with almond. :-) read more

We always stop in at the RMCF in Estes Park when we go. I especially enjoy their no-sugar added selections, as its difficult to find that sort of thing with any quality. My wife is partial to their chocolate covered orange jellies, and their chocolate covered peanut clusters. I'd go 5 stars, but it's a bit pricey. read more
