I had an absolute 5-star experience at Scratch Deli and Bakery! We needed some sandwiches to bring with us into the park to give us energy for a day of hiking, and this place delivered perfectly. We ordered two different kinds of sandwiches, and both were absolutely phenomenal. The flavor was completely on point, everything was so fresh, and they make it right in front of you. The deli is run by a super cute couple, and you can tell how much care they put into their business. We happened to visit during the shoulder season, so luckily the line wasn't very long. However, I've heard from others that this place is super popular, and during the peak summer season, there is usually a line waiting right out the door, and after eating here, I can totally see why! In fact, we loved it so much that we tried to go back the very next day, but unfortunately, they were closed (they are closed two days of the week, so be sure to check their hours!). As we were about to enter Rocky Mountain Natl Park our first day, we knew we needed lunch to go. I found this place on Yelp and it had such great reviews we decided to give it a try. All of their meats are cured in house and served on their fresh baked bread each day. They are vegetarian friendly and offer vegan and gluten free options. They also offer breakfast items like burritos. Be aware their sandwiches are loaded with ingredients and big. I could only eat half of my sandwich. I do appreciate the size though as you never know how hungry you are going to be after a long hike especially in this altitude. We went with the turkey sandwich and added cheese, all kinds of toppings and a spread. These sandwiches were very tasty and all the veggies on the sandwich were so fresh. The cashier was super friendly and let us have as much candy as we wanted, helped us pick menu items, and was very honest about wait times due to their busyness but was still quick to get our orders out as soon as she could. The restaurant has few tables so its more of a grab and go spot, but it is possible to sit at a small counter or select few tables. The sandwiches were all good, some better than others. When I ordered the pastrami, I asked if I could replace the mustard and what other options were available. The response was "whatever you want," followed by an eye roll, which was surprising and unprofessional. My wife ordered the grilled cheese, and no drinks or chips were offered. Throughout the interaction, the employee seemed annoyed that we were there. Once we received our food, the grilled cheese wasn't fully melted, which was disappointing. It would be easy to assume the main reason to get food at Scratch Deli is to sit on their front porch and eat while looking out at some of the most impressive mountains in the Rockies. The restaurant is literally just outside Rocky Mountain National Park. Like a two minute drive or 20 minute walk. Big bonus for the location. But do not underestimate the food! We stopped for breakfast and had the best breakfast burritos ever. Highly recommend the Spanish burrito with green chili and chorizo. And if you think a sausage and gravy burrito sounds weird, it is. But it's also delicious. It is the perfect marriage of two all-star breakfast options. We've heard the lunch sandwiches are also great, and we'll be sure to be back for those next time we're in the area. Today we were heading back to Trail Ridge Road and I stopped and got us a couple sausage burritos add bacon, cheddar, and pepper Jack cheese. The burrito is phenomenal for breakfast. I went for breakfast and I got a chorizo and egg burrito that was just absolutely tasty. The chorizo was home made and had the perfect amount of spices in and kick. The breading it self was very tasty and loved how hot and fresh it was. I also got their potatoe salad which was also good and you could tell was made that day. The staff was super friendly at answering any questions I had since it was my very first time. It's a small restaurant maybe like 5 or 6 tables. We'd just finished climbing and tired of eating left overs at our Airbnb so a friend had a craving for a sandwich. Pulled out my trusty Yelp app and searched up sandwiches near our Airbnb and came across this one. I got the Philly Cheesesteak and my friend got the Italian. The Philly Cheesesteak was good overall, but I wish it has mushrooms too or wish I had added it if that was an option (forgot to check). There was plenty of meat so I can't complain. The Italian was great too and it was a nice touch with focaccia instead of having it as a regular sub. I'm a sucker for some nice and buttery focaccia bread. For $7.50, this is a good value as the food quality is good. I was told the breakfast sandwich was yummy. For $12, maybe not such a good value, but it's a tasty option. The burritos were made pretty fast as there's lots of people working in the kitchen, but the gal taking orders at the front seems like she's pretty spacey. They messed up my order twice in two days if that tells you anything. Double check your order before you walk out. The parking situation is rough. The lot is tiny and hard to get in and out of. I always back in, so it wasn't extreme, but if you pull in forward, you run the risk of killing somebody in this parking lot. It's tight.
