I love Safeway here on Warmspring Blvd and have been shopping there since day 1 it opened. And I like their bakery dept too, employees there are often very friendly and helpful. However, last Thurs (7/28) I had the worst experience at that store. After picking up a large 1/2 sheet tres leche cake and other bakery stuff for which I had spent over $50. I asked the guy at the Deli department if I can have a cup or small bag of ice to cool off the special cake since I have a longer drive in that afternoon for the cake occasion. The guy there said he cannot do that, he said I had to buy either a big bag of ice or pay for a drink. I said I don't really need much ice and I don't need a drink at that time. He plainly refused it again. I walked up to the store manager to ask for help. The store manager looked dazed and helpless, and pointed me to the in-store Starbucks and said "Go ask them!" I eventually got 2 cups of ice, thanks for the girl working there. She was all smile, did not charge anything and did not even ask a question. Safeway, in general, I like this store and most workers. But some of your workers' attitude seems like Deli Nazi. Get some customer service training for them! read more

I've been going to this Safeway ever since it opened. It is very convenient as it is so close to my house and open 24/7. Products: Just like any other store, they have a wide variety of groceries that are fresh for the most part. They practically sell everything here at a decent price. Not much to say except it's nice to have one store that sells everything. Service: Of all my visits, I have always received good service. The cashiers are friendly and have a good attitude. One thing they can improve on is the number of clerks open. They have 10+ registers but only have 2 open; customers with only a few items are stuck waiting long lines. Deli: I come here multiple times a week during my lunch break and grab a fresh sandwich. I usually get the chicken, bacon, avocado or the turkey, bacon, chipotle which is always good. It can take a very long time to get your sandwich especially during lunch time. It is not the workers fault though as they are trying their best to make a proper and delicious sandwich for you. The sign says "Under 3 minutes or your sandwich is free" but don't go off that basis. The thing is they very well can make you a sandwich that fast but it'll be thrown together and extremely sloppy. The management might want to look into a way of implementing lean manufacturing to eliminate the 7 wastes because the way the workers work is inefficient. They should follow Subways process of the assembly line because as of now, it can take up to 25 minutes to get your sandwich. Again, don't blame the workers as they are working hard and have a great attitude. They also have fresh sushi and soul food on the other side of the deli. Other: They have a Starbucks and a pharmacy located here as well so that is convenient for coffee drinkers. I like this Safeway and will continue to shop here as long as I live in Fremont. Past few experiences at Safeway has been getting better and slowly changing my perception from the last review. Still experience a few of non friendly and engaging cashier but that's expected. This Safeway is always clean and well-lit and a lot of items are mostly stocked. Beat deals are found in the back area where the restrooms are. Here you will find the clearance rack. I've scored so many awesome goodies like Wilton treat pop cups, icing/sprinkles, and other goodies for a great price. When I paid too much because of a scanner error, their customer service was quick to provide the difference back, plus they have a $5 Safeway gift card for the inconvenience. Sadly, not all Safeways are created equal. This one rocks. Food is easy to find, the store is properly staffed, and personnel are friendly. I hesitate to give you my first tip because it could make my life less convenient; shopping before 9am is a breeze. They have plenty of people on hand, and there are few shoppers in the store. I'm happy, however, to give you my second tip. Don't go to the store on Washington Blvd. in Fremont (Irvington/MSJ). I went there one evening, and there was a line 20-deep. When I asked the cashier about it, he said that we should all blame the assistant manager, who saw the line but went home anyway. read more

This Safeway is the best. I've been going to my local Irvington Safeway for as long as I can remember. I would search the different sections of the store looking for organic, natural foods, soy alternatives and fake meat. It was so time consuming. So imagine my surprise when I walked into this Safeway and up front, right next to the doors are two aisles stocked with only organic, natural, soy and veggie foods. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! All of the products I needed were so close together and I didn't have to go running all over the store. Although I love the closer Safeway, I'm going to make trips out of my way to visit this one. read more

I usually wouldn't write a review for Safeway, but I have info I'd like to share. Over the past year, I've run into a large number of instances now with expired products. First being cheese, then milk, then the deli salads, bread, and now some bottled products. I've mentioned them to the manager on occasion, and he had requested someone on the spot to go look into it. But the fact that I keep finding them, and it's pretty NORMAL stuff, scares me. Today, I mentioned it to one of the managers, and she got an attitude with me. I have been shopping less and less here, but I really don't understand what's with the attitude, I only mentioned the item I was looking for and it was expired in June (and it's now August). The other thing, this place is *always* running out of milk. You have to be careful which days you need milk, such a hassle if you really need some and they are out again. read more

This Safeway is the closest grocery to my house but I actually avoid it when I can. When I complained to a manager that I was finding a lot of expired items, including items that should last years (expired bbq sauce and canned soup) the manager said 'I know right? We should call this a food museum rather than a fresh grocery store!" She was trying to joke but I'm not laughing. On a more general level: - Have had a few run ins with terribly rude employees - Lines are often long even though this safeway is not a busy one - Must check every item carefully for expiration!!! This review is for Bobbie at the Deli! Apparently no one else is a fan, I must admit that I agree that the folks working there are on the slower side and if you have 10-15 mins to grab your food, a deli shouldn't take any longer than that! Anyway, when I first went there, there was a man talking for DAYS with Bobbie and I was like oh my, I'm never gonna get out of here! Not going to lie but I was pretty grumpy walking into Safeway that morning. But when it was my turn I knew why people enjoyed talking with her so much. She is the sweetest lady ever. She genuinely cares about how your day is going and will complain right along with you! My kind of deli lady. I told her about my ridiculous commute and she ended up giving me a free sandwich voucher and some of that delicious ambrosia salad. Be patient and nice folks, it always pays off. Thanks Bobbie! Probably the worst grocery store I've ever been to, the Walmart on Osgood provides strong competition for the title though. But let's stay on point, we're talking Safeway here. I have multiple issues with this store: many times I won't find something as basic as milk....and it's not some exotic variety I'm talking about but the regular 2% reduced fat version. The other highlight of this place is that even if all of Fremont is inside the store (which is always when I'm late for a get-together and need to pick up some last minute items along the way), you'll never find more than two billing counters open. I usually pick up my items in under 2 minutes but wait 25 mins to get them billed....couldn't be a more efficient use of time. And to make it even better, there are no self checkout counters. Lastly, getting in and out of this strip mall is an added challenge. Getting out through the west exit (towards I-880) can be super hard, the north entrance that leads you towards I-680 isn't fun either. Many times I've driven all the way up to the Lucky on Mowry Ave just so I can buy everything under one roof in peace. These guys really work super hard to remind you that despite the crazy pace that defines the Valley, some things defiantly remain rooted in the previous century. read more

Simply put, STAY AWAY from this location! As the negative reviews continue to come in, let it be a sign to avoid this site at all cost! The setup of this location is far more different than the other sites, as they have the alcohol and medicinal products barricaded and expect to check out in this section. I had the pleasure in waiting 30 minutes due to the incompetence of the cashier, Gavin. His tone towards the customers and how he carries himself customer service wise was truthfully cringeworthy. Almost every customer, he had to call for assistance for a void and or an override. This was no exception for me. When it came to my turn, I had 5 items but somehow was run up as 8 items totaling to $35 over the cost of what my actual total was. Apparently he rung me up twice for two separate items. Luckily I was able to address this before walking away, and when explaining the situation to him, it was as if I was talking to a mute. He simply couldn't comprehend the mistake and wasn't fully engage with the situation as he was more concerned about "going over my 5th hour for lunch." Now don't me wrong, I can understand the situation to an extent as I worked retail myself, in which groceries was one of them and now currently in healthcare myself, stress and workload can pile up but I would never let it detour my work ethic or customer service. I would simply continue to work and figure it out down the way. May I add, he now has a HUGE line building up. There's obviously a staffing issue, as no one bothered to call for extra checkers. Gavin's attention surely was missing as he overcharged me $35 more than my total, didn't understand his mistake until I took the time to correct him, then when processing the return, didn't give me clear directions on what is needed from my end (first told me to insert my Card and put debit, then said sorry it needs to be credit) to my surprise, I have 3 pending charges and am currently waiting for it to adjust. Such an inconvenience... poor me. Lastly, they are "out of bags" so if you're purchasing more than 5 items, you're fucked. Hope you can carry your groceries. The customer in front of me had quite the conversation with the manager, Gina, who insisted that all Safeway's are in a similar situation and are out of bags. (This is false as the Washington location had bags, as well as the Mountain View. )What could have been responded in an apologetic way, she simply took the petty route and gave off a rude response and decided to write off the customer. She told the customer that she can grab a box as if it were Costco. Rather than retrieve a box for the customer, the customer herself (who is a healthcare worker) goes off and grabs the box which was a banana box intended for recycle which obviously had a hole in it. I mean what purpose does it serve. Goes to show what type of ethic is carried here. Did I forget to mention, there's a ton of bums here. I managed to witness one, belligerently walk into the alcohol area and grabbed some alcohol and told the security guard lady to fuck off and she proceeded to walk out. That was definitely worth the 30 minute wait as there was no push back. Poor excuse of defense, I mean why have a security guard. Anyways, did I mention not to come here? read more

I'm very hurt and saddened by today experience with the manager (Rodriquez) at Safeway in Franciscan Center. I'm a regular customer of this Safeway because it's my neighborhood supermarket. I never had any issue or problem with this location except today. I purchased many items including the sale on Haagen-Daz ice cream bar; the advertised price for this was $2.78 as Just for U item. When I went through the self-check counter, it registered as $3.50 so I asked the staff (Rodriquez) why it's different. His answer was 'I don't know' and I asked if he can adjust the price. He answered 'no' without any further explanation. At this point, I asked for refund and he said he cannot do it at the self-check and that I need to go to the 'customer service' counter. I went there and waited for at least 5-10 min and no one came. I went back to the self-check counter and request to speak to the manager. That same staff (Rodriquez) finally told me he is the manager, then I ask if he can help me at the 'customer service' counter. He answered 'no' and said he cannot leave the self-check counter. At this point, I'm beyond frustration. As I walk out, he yells out 'have a nice day'. I believe that was a sarcastic remark. I'm a 60+ yo Asian woman and Rodriquez just brush me off because of my ethnicity. If I was a white woman/man, this whole incidence would have ended very differently. I truly believed Rodriguez would handle this in a different manner if the customer is white woman/man. This is no longer a money issue but rather a discrimination issue. To many Asian out there who had been discriminated due to COVID-19, I feel your pain. We cannot stay silence; please share your experience so we can be heard. I apologized for this long post but I will continue to share my experience to as many people/social media sites as I can reach. How did Rodriquez get his management position? I am through shopping at this establishment. I have lived in Fremont for over 20 years, and even before that I shopped at Safeway. Until today. My wife and I went in to do our standard grocery shopping, about $150-200 a week, and when we got through the checkstand, the register system declined our check. The clerk who has known us for years, said no problem the manager can over ride it. It turns out Jeremy, the manager, was at the next checkstand over. When the courtesy clerk took it over to him he shook his head no, and she came back and said he wouldn't okay it! I was stunned and embarassed. I called over to him, and said you're the manager and as long time customers you can over ride this mistake. He said, "No, and I'm not even supposed to tell you why it was declined." In anger I said why the hell are you the manager if you can't service loyal customers when mistakes happen? He said "no" again. Safeway, if this bimbo typifies the kind of leader you are training to run your stores, good luck. I have spent my last dime at a Safeway. There is a Ralph's right up the street, and a Lundardi's that I may have to drive a little further to, but I wish you, a Scrooge HUMBUG for your crappy service and loyalty to customers read more

This is a good Safeway, but the Pharmacy is Awesome. By this I refer to the level of service and attention to detail I have recieved, I have a cronic illness and over several years have had many differant prescriptions filled, refilled, verified and even with some major drug shortages and such have recieved excellent assistance from the Pharmacy staff. Of note a particular Pharmacist I would like to reconize is Bob. He has assisted me when insurance issues, drug shortages and has always been of assistance, good chear and you can tell a professional with compasion and experiance is working at this Safeway Pharmacy. read more

It seemed very fancy, yet the bathroom sucked. I know, that should not be my basis for reviewing a supermarket, but it is the little things, I guess. The cashier also released gas (not making it up), and when I forgot my wallet in the car, she rolled her eyes at me. Because I clearly picked up my stuff, and waited in line, and then let her ring it all up just so I could wait in line a second time... I did all this just to make her job harder! Right, lady. It is a mistake, just like you farting and stinking up the place... Again, it looked fancy, but the restroom felt creepy, and the lady was rude to me. The store itself looks new and clean. It's across the street from my office so I stop by now and again and have no problem getting any groceries I need. The reason I give it 4 stars is the heavy use of the speaker/intercom. The first time I went in a cashier got on and asked for more cashiers to open check stands. No one responded, so the cashier got back on and yelled for someone to open a check stand right now and not ignore her. A manager then got on the speaker and asked that the cashier that just made that announcement call her at extension blah, blah, blah. Some silence and then the manager again got on the speaker and told the cashier who made that announcement to call her right now. No response. Today, a cashier got on and asked for a manager. Silence, then a manager got on and said someone would be right there. Then the manager got on again and told another manager by name to respond. Then I saw a guy running towards the check stands. It amused me but heairng all that talking gave me a headache. I would have written the above as a dialogue, which may have been more effective, but I still have a headache. read more

This review is for their Sandwich Deli Only: My wife and recently stopped in for a quick bite to eat in between places to be. It was 12:15ish on a Saturday, you would expect their Deli to be fully stocked with their sandwich items, breads, etc... after all, it is lunch time, a weekend, and this Safeway deli can get pretty busy around these hours. After standing in line for about 10 minutes, the Deli workers were running a bit slow, when we started placing our orders from their Deli menu we find out that their sandwich line isn't completely set up, WTF! Seriously it's 12:30pm now, what the heck have you people been doing all morning... They only had 2 bread options which where white and wheat, none of the other breads where ready yet. Not all the signature sandwiches were available either because some of the meats were still frozen and hadn't been taken out of the freezer to be defrosted, at least that's what they told us, but we could make substitutions for things, lovely. After finally decided on 2 sandwiches with our substitutions, the guy proceeds to make our lunches. You would have thought he was making an art piece by the way he was making them, I know I shouldn't complain right, but it's a freak'in sandwich people, how long should it really take. We finally got our sandwiches and the guys proceeded to ring us up, which he did incorrectly, so he had to fix that, no problem, we got our fountain drinks and proceed to get our soda's before heading out. We make it to the fountain station, get our drinks, and then there were no stocked lids, no straws, and no napkins and he didn't give us any when he put our sandwiches in our bag, really! The entire, fountain station wasn't stocked, shouldn't that be the first thing they do in the morning! I proceeded to flag someone down to get lids for our drinks, straws, and napkins, so much for a quick bite to eat, we would have been better off going through the drive-thru of those fast food places in the same parking lot, that's what we get for trying to be healthy. read more

This is the prettiest safeway i have ever seen. It's huge, it's clean, and the employees are friendly. I've never experienced a huge line and it's always in and out for me. However the only drawback i've found is that they're not up to speed on new items. There's been a couple of occasions where i've noticed that albertson's or raley's will have products out for months before Safeway gets them in their store. read more

The worst...and I mean the worst Safeway in California. This place has been losing customers for years. They got rid of most of their checkers. When you shop, there might be one checker and the self check-out line. Their self-check stations were soo sensitive you were always stopped by the machine for something. Once I went in there about 7:30am desperate to buy something, they had no checkers working and NOT ONE of their self-check locations were open. I just left my food at one of those stations and walked out. read more

I LOVE this Safeway location. I remember when this particular location first opened up and I really wanted to stay faithful to the Albertson's that used to be across the street. Unfortunately, it was hard. This Safeway is so well stocked and clean. The interior design is also awesome and it's like luxury grocery shopping (haha, kind of). Anyhow, the only reason why I am giving Safeway 4 stars and not 5 is that their prices are higher than many other supermarkets. For essentials and things like pasta, crackers, I'll go to Food Maxx or Food for Less. But Safeway is great for their bakery and produce section. Also, if you're looking for a much wider variety of foods and ingredients, Safeway is the way to go. The service at this location is also superb. I've never had bad service here, and the staff here even go out of their way to help you out and make sure you have a pleasant experience at their store. read more

This is one of he remodeled Safeway's. It was pretty well done and has all the standard products you've come to know and love. We have had a Thanksgiving pre-made meal. It was actually tasty with all the fixing's. There was a turkey, potatoes, vegetables, pie and stuffing. The meal was pretty complete and satisfied everyone. Anyway, good Safeway. read more

The one and only reason I ever come to this Safeway is because it's right across the street from where I live. Unfortunately. I've never had an issue with poorly stocked shelves, bad selection, or messiness in the aisles. My biggest issue with this Safeway, in conjunction with it's ridiculously expensive, not-worth-it pricing, are the: LONG lines. Don't come here after 8p.m. unless you want to stand in line foreeevvvvaaaaarrrrrr. Here's the scenario: (usually around 9 or 10p.m.) You walk into the store, and notice that it's relatively quiet, albeit empty. Hardly any sign of life as you walk up and down the aisles procuring your necessities. "Hey, this was a great idea," you think, "coming to the store late at night when nobody else is here! Everyone else is a suckaaaa!" Take it back, now- cuz the sucka is YOU. You'll see why once you get to the checkout lines. They only have two lanes open- one is the 15 item express lane, and the other is a not so express lane. Even worse, both lines are overflowing into and taking up half of aisle number 8! Dar. Half the time when I see these lines, I seriously question whether it's even worth it to stay. I spend more time in the checkout line than I did picking up my groceries. I digress. In general, I hate the grocery store, so it's often a miracle that you can get me to even set foot in one. I also sometimes have that laziness tendency, so it's typical that I'll find myself at this Safeway rather than the Lucky or Food 4 Less that's another 4 or 5 miles up the street. Priciness aside, it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult for those late night shifters to do us all a favor and open up that third checkout lane. RIGHT? read more

This Safeway is pretty legit. The store is big and spacious [WIDE AISLES GUYS]. Also not crowded. Easy to navigate. However, it could be better stocked (why was all the milk almost gone?!?!) This place is fairly new--I remember when it was still being built (and Albertson's was still across the street...). The parking lot could be bigger and better lit, since they do share that area with other businesses and it's also really hard to see where you're going. Blind spot galore. Good place to shop. I'm down. If I'm in the area, I wouldn't mind making a stop here to do my groceries. read more

For whatever reason, this Safeway refuses to put in self check-out stations. In addition, they only open 1 or 2 checkout causing significant delays. To add insult to injury, a lot of the cashiers like to yap away to the, now frustrated customers, slowing the process down even further. I only go to this Safeway if I have to. read more

The Fruit and Vegetable section of Safeway rivals any outdoor market this side of the Mississippi - always fresh and always something good on sale. Vegetables - seems like from around the world! LOVE LOVE LOVE this Safeway. I used to always visit the Albertsons across the street until this place opened up their doors. It's modern, clean, friendly, extremely neat, and offers everything I could ever need from a supermarket. No wonder the Albertsons across the street closed down (kinda sad, but could only blame myself for always shopping at the new Safeway!). Most of the stuff at Safeway is expensive, but when you buy certain things when they go on discount, it could be cheaper than other places. Overall, the shopping experience here is very comforting, and it doesn't make you feel like you're in a grocery store. I also enjoy the 99cent dvd rental kiosk at the front of the store. Why bother going to Blockbuster or Hollywood? The wine selection here is also pretty extensive. Great deals too sometimes. The beers as well. So for anyone who wants a better grocery shopping experience, shop at THIS safeway! read more

I went into this Safeway to use the restroom, and as I was walking towards the women's door, this worker that had past by be saw me enter the bathroom when suddenly he started banging on the bathroom door and that scared me. Let me start by saying, this store needs to fire every person working in the deli. Horrible customer service. Today was the last straw. I work in construction so my day starts at 5 am. Normally around 730 am my crew stops here to get our lunch for the day. The deli section has people there making sushi for the day but they can never seem to help us. We ask for help and they look around for somebody else to help us. So, back to today. We came in after 10am. One person was making sushi and 3 other people are help one guy to get a hot food meal. We stand there for 15 mins waiting for someone to help us. Even a person came in the store saw us standing there, she puts on gloves "like she is coming to help us" and she goes over to help the other 3 people help the 1 guy with his hot meal. Wow, was is because we were 2 black men. So I decides to ask," is anybody gonna help us." So, the guy making the sushi, whispers " customer " and the 4 a-holes walk around the corner like they never saw us. You can best believe we will never be going there again except to complain to the manager or the owner. Definitely calling their corporate office. read more

Giving this location a 3-star because no matter how many times it happens they still let it. After about 9 or so, don't go here because there will only be one cashier. They may call over the intercom but nobody ever comes to help. I like the help I get during the day, it's great. I understand companies can't pay a lot of people to be on the clock at non busy hours but a lot of time you have longer lines at night than you ever do during the day. Btw. Seafood salad at the deli counter is the best. Definitely try it. read more
