Chiacha has a beautiful aesthetic and their drinks are photo-worthy. However, it feels just a tad wasteful since we don't have a use for the sleeves, but also feel strange removing them and giving them back. Their drinks are light and their boba is soft and chewy. If you're a sugar fiend, the full 100% is not very sweet so you shouldn't need to reduce the sugar level. I saw this place get busy from time to time now so I wanted to try it. Upon entering it is all self service. They have a kiosk where you can place your order from. They do have a lot of selections but this is not your regular boba spot. I ordered the Mango Oolong since it's one of their best sellers and got it with no sweetener but added boba to it and I must say it was actually pretty good, now do I think it's worth $8.75 probably not. I'm not sure if they are trying to justify this cost because of the fancy machines they are using but I definitely find that in the more expensive side. I waited 22 minutes for my drink, which isn't bad considering when the Cupertino location first opened, though it offers a tea-tasting option. So far I've been to Chicha San Chen in Vegas, Daly City and now Fremont. This location is way bigger compared to the other 2. I like the high ceilings and it's aesthetically decorated. You can order using the 2 kiosks or at the counter. It's faster at the counter because sometimes people take their time at the kiosk. It was very nice of them to offer a sample of their passion fruit oolong which my friend did end up getting. I ordered the milk tea with boba. Their boba has a nice chew and they give plenty. I ordered my tea at 1/2 sweet and I think I should have stuck with regular sweetness. The tea tasted light, I've had better. This was my second time trying this franchise, and I was hoping to finally understand the buzz. First, I have to say that both the Fremont and Cupertino locations are aesthetically pleasing. The interior is clean, modern, and inviting--the kind of place that makes you want to sit down, relax, catch up with friends, and just enjoy the moment. The ambiance is probably one of my favorite things about Chicha San Chen. Unfortunately, the drinks didn't leave the same impression. I ordered one of their popular drinks, the Dong Ding Oolong Milk Tea, expecting a rich tea-forward flavor. Instead, it tasted mostly like cream with very little tea coming through. I asked a staff member if it was possible to add more tea. To her credit, she was very accommodating and remade the drink for me, but even then it still tasted like a diluted milk tea with a lot of cream and only a splash of tea. She then offered to make me an entirely different drink if I still wasn't satisfied. I ended up trying the Honey Osmanthus Oolong Tea, which I enjoyed much more. The honey and floral notes complemented the tea nicely, and I could actually taste the oolong. It was lighter, refreshing, and definitely the better drink of the two. One part of the interaction felt a little off-putting. After offering to remake my drink, the employee had another staff member bring out the Honey Osmanthus Oolong Tea to me. Whether intentional or not, it gave me the impression that she no longer wanted to deal with my concerns. I appreciate that she tried to make things right, but as a customer, it didn't leave me feeling particularly welcomed. For a brand that's known for its tea and has won so many awards, I expected a stronger and more memorable tea experience. For a brand built on tea, I wanted the tea to be the star of the drink--and for me, it never quite got there. This place clearly has a loyal following, and I can appreciate the beautiful space, the attention to presentation, and the customer service I received. But after two visits, I still don't quite understand what sets it apart from other standout boba shops in the Bay Area. If you enjoy lighter, creamier milk teas, you may love it here. Chicha San Chen uses fresh taro and their taro balls are made in-house. I've always ordered this hot, 0% sweet and it is creamy perfection. There is the option to use oat milk if you are vegan or preferring a non-dairy option. They do upcharge for it, so minus 1 star. The service is usually fairly fast and the drinks so far have been made really well. I love that their cups come tucked into a little sleeve with a twine handle so you can carry your drink out while you continue to walk around. The vibe inside is bright and fresh. I stopped by on a Wednesday evening around 5pm and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of people inside. It's always nice when there is a kiosk to order on. I'm a big fan of their oolong teas so ordered the Mango Osmanthus again for my mom, and High Mountain Pouchong Tea with Mango, a new drink that I've never tried. My drink was very light and refreshing. Loved the chewiness of the boba. The size of the drinks can be a tad bigger since it costs almost $9 each (if you add toppings). Love the tea samples that they have at the register, especially if it's a flavor that I've never tried before. You can order from 2 kiosks or from a worker. If you like a more milk forward flavor than tea, then you might like this. -Green Tea w/Mousse A nice balance of green tea and mousse foam on top. The Mousse nor the tea were overly sweet. The Bubble Milk Tea was solid as expected, with chewy boba and good flavor. The Creamy Pineapple Tart drink took a little getting used to at first, but it definitely grew on me. It wasn't too sweet, and I really liked the pineapple bits. I normally don't enjoy salted egg yolk flavors, but the salted egg yolk cookie crumbles in this drink actually worked really well with the pineapple and elevated the drink a lot more than I expected. The Lemon Mango Condensed Milk was my favorite of the bunch. I'm a huge fan of condensed milk flavors and this one really hit the spot. The ambiance here is great too. I've visited this location twice and personally can't really understand the hype. I've been to the Cupertino location and thought it was decent. I was happy when this location opened as it's closer. The inside is small but has a good amount of space and tables. When there's a line though, it can look busy but it's because there's only two kiosk to order and the inside is small. Also, I am not 100% sure, as they may have not updated their menu pricing, but I noticed the price is slightly higher when you order via the kiosk versus ordering at the register. I assume it's the small fee they need to pay Snackpass but it's something to keep in mind. I ordered the Bubble Volcano last time and it was a bit bland so this time I opted to try the Milk Tea with Taro Paste and Boba which was even more bland. There was no tea taste and the taro paste did not blend and mix in well with the milk tea, despite me getting 75% sugar. The boba was nice and warm, which is good, but the ice just melts quickly making the drink more bland. Keep in mind, I drink my drinks fairly quickly and noticed the ice was almost all melted within 10 minutes. Overall, service is good and staff are friendly. As for the drinks, I think they're just okay. For the price point of $9.15 before tax and tip, I'd expect a little more quality you can distinctly taste, but it's just alright and very subtle in my opinion. All the teas I have tried so far: High Mountain Pouchong Tea w/ Konjac ($1.25 extra) - very refreshing and fragrant, with less sweetness. The Konjac topping goes well with this tea since it doesn't overpower with sweetness compared to boba. Brown Sugar Ginger Oat Milk- recommend getting it hot, which is soothing for my dry throat during winter. Creamy Lemon Tart- High Mountain Pouchong Tea with creamy lemon juice, which is refreshing to drink and not too sweet, since I cannot adjust the level. Pineapple Honey Tea (Seasonal)- I enjoyed the pineapple bits and konjac toppings in light sweetness. Creamy Pineapple Tart w/ Oat Milk (Seasonal)- the pineapple bits are too sweet. The oat milk is an extra $0.75, but it helps prevent indigestion if I choose regular dairy. It was fun to drink with the salted egg yolk cookie crumbs, which tasted like pineapple bun crumbs. It is pricey since each drink costs $8-$10 with extra toppings, milk alternatives, and tax and tip, but it's freshly made from high-quality tea leaves sourced in Taiwan. I prefer to go there for new drinks every season. I love how aesthetic their store is, but they don't have a tea tasting room like in Cupertino and Berkeley because it's as small as the Ume Tea store. They do have a single restroom, which is clean and pristine. The service is efficient with their kiosks. I like how they post the expected wait time sign in the entrance. All of them are within variance in terms of flavor profile. This Fremont location always tastes off or watered down. I've gone here at least 3 times and some of my other friends who also are huge CSC fans said the same thing. You are seriously wasting your money going here. Just go to the Cupertino location instead. You won't be disappointed.
