On multiple occasions, I've bought items only to get home and find them expired. Not by a few days, but several months. The last straw for me was when I bought a brick or cheese that had expired 4 months ago! Every time I have this experience, I bring it to the attention of a manager and they all just shrug it off. There is clearly NO quality control, the store is usually very dirty, restrooms are gross and it's just overall a poorly run store. I'll be going to the giant from now on! read more

on 7/12/2025 at the goshen store i went to get deli meat. this seems to be a problem in all stores not only safeway i was waiting and a woman was stocking some cheeses or something and then the woman on the other side told her customer, she took her time to come around and asked what i wanted told her. then she goes towards the back and in the meantime a gentleman came up and gave her a list of what he needed i am still standing there. finally another lady comes from the back and takes my order, this is ridiculous if they dont want to work get some else that does and like i said this is not the first time this has happend in this store. read more

On June 23, in the evening I was shopping in the store and I saw a man with a mid size dog in a grocery cart shopping. Now while I know that those nasty carts are never cleaned most likely, people should NOT be allowed to place dogs in carts that are meant for food. I immediately told the man assigned to the customer service desk and his tepid vague disinterested response was astonishing He replied " If I see him I will say something" I told him exactly where the customer was. That man couldn't have cared less Later that evening I contacted customer service and filed a complaint. Someone from the store called back left me a message as a follow up leaving no name or call back number. I called back to the store and asked to speak with a manager. I am sure that the same guy whom I previously spoke with came to the phone . He said well if it's a service dog we can do nothing when I pointed out that there was no county code that disallowed him or another employee from asking customers not to place animals in carts. He said there is nothing that we can do about it, not even ask them to leave. I then tried to reach out to the district manager. It has now been well over a week and I have heard NOTHING from the district manager. Word to the wise .. something is not right with this store Be careful what you buy Sanitation is clearly not a priority read more

This Safeway is one of three in the area, while it doesn't carry as much of a variety of merchandise as the others, it the closest. I gave 2-stars since there were minimal disinfectant wipes for the carts, hand sanitizer or any social distancing. read more

*My review is in regards to the bakery department* I had tried multiple other stores trying to have a cake made for my daughter's first birthday party with no success. Other groceries could not customize much and the higher end bakeries can but were simply out of our budget. I almost gave up and thought of buying a premade cake to decorate on my own but decided to try Safeway. I saw a display cake similar style to what I desired and they listened and let me customize the colors and sprinkles/frosting to make it how I wanted. They called me if they had any questions about my order and the cake came out absolutely beautiful and so affordable! Definitely recommend if you are balling on a budget like we were! They came through for my baby - we also got her a little cupcake to smash in the color and sprinkles we wanted! read more

This location is the one in my parents neighborhood. It's not the newest or with the most variety. But the people are nice. Except the old white man who seems to be the go to guy who does the money transfer systems. My grandma comes and he walks away. He's told her to give him a min, away and goes to god knows where and leaves her standing there never to come back. Or just tells her the system is down. 6out of 7 times this has happened always with him. The one time she was serviced it was by a lady. Idk but seems like he either doesn't like to work the system or doesn't like certain ethnic group of people. But this safe way of western union needs to think of who's here handling that part of service. I do t think anyone likes to be treated differently in this day and age especially being elderly. He should know better. Sucks to do this but my grandma shouldn't start the knew year like this so I had to do it read more

This is my favorite grocery store. I think one of the places I chose to recently move to I chose because it was close to this Safeway! It has great staff and great deli meat too. The people here are friendly. The store is clean and well stocked. The produce is fresh. The clearance rack has yummy baked goods on it for half price. The sales are great. Their cut flowers last for weeks! They have fun promotions to earn pots and pans and cool flatware with roosters on it. The bakery staff gives the kids free cookies. We prefer Safeway to the Giant across the street for all of the above reasons...so why why WHY are there only ever one or two checkout lanes open?? Self checkout is always an option but with a cranky baby and an overzealous 4 year old poised to pounce on our cart full of food and scan each item multiple times, it makes for a stressful end of shopping experience! If not for the lack of checkers, it would be 5 stars. read more

It doesn't matter what time of day it is, I am always able to find someone to help me if I need it. This impresses me because depending on what shift you encounter, some stores have inconsistent service. The staff at this store never disappoints me. read more

This is a very clean and friendly Safeway. Haven't tried the Starbucks inside the store. They get a plus from me for having carts under shelter. So much nicer when it's raining. There is a decent, although not an outstanding, selection of produce. Nice sized organic section. Good assortment of ground meat: beef, lamb veal, chicken, pork and turkey. This Safeway is seriously lacking. There are never enough registers open. Today for example, on a busy Sunday afternoon they only had 2 registers open and a line for self checkout with at least 8 people in a line down the greeting card aisle. Also I have to point out that their selection of produce and refrigerated items needs work. I have purchased fruit and cheese that was disgusting when I went to eat it only to discover the expiration date was before I even bought it so I definitely have to be extra careful. Had ordered bunches of flowers from a garden shop, and stopped at Safeway on way home. Was surprised at how beautiful the flowers were. Totally changed my mind and bought all the flowers plus greenery for my daughters bridal shower there. Staff young lady could not have been more patient and helpful.The bride to be was thrilled! This is my store. It's clean, and the staff is nice. The produce is fresh and the meat is good. I'm very particular about *which* steaks I purchase and they will repackage them as I hand select the ones I want. The pharmacist is great ~ he is friendly and helpful. I don't think you even deserve a star, management sucks. Every time I'm been in the store some manager is speaking rudely to customers, employees or just in general speaking loud enough for others to hear. But every time I have had to deal with this woman named Horina it has not gone good, honestly I can't see how she is in a a position that's she's in. Over hearing her even speaking to her employees she's rude. Today is the last straw though it may cost more to shop somewhere else I'm done with the Safeway on Goshen & believe me when I tell you I will spread my opinion of your store with my family, friends & strangers even. I think you should focus more on your customers & less on your egos the reason you have those management positions is because of people like me & your other customers shopping there. I love this Safeway the flowers always organized nicely and the fruits and veggie selection very organized and for some reason I feel like it has more options on fruits and vegetables than giant which I like very much!!! Will start doing grocery shopping here. read more

I am a recent convert to Safeway from Giant, primarily out of convenience since they are closer than Giant, but Safeway just lost a lunch customer. They have completely removed their full salad bar. They now have a hot wing bar and a little sandwich shop. I wanted a salad and maybe some chicken. I will drove a little further top go to foamy for their salad bar. Removing the salad bar was a bad move in my opinion. read more

It's 24 hours and no matter what time you go in there the staff is pleasant and helpful and the store is clean. Gets a 4 because of a vendor change that has eliminated them stocking a few of my regular its that I purchase. read more

Too often I've come home with groceries then realize a product has expired. Customer service has gone down hill as well.

I've been shopping at this Safeway for the last 7 years and they never fail to disappoint. If only they weren't the closest store for me. Giant is across the street, but I'll get to them on another review. First of all, I can't seem to visit this store without fearing that at least one critical item I'm looking to buy isn't already expired...by days/weeks/months or even two years. Yes, over two years expired, but I'll clarify shortly. Having to frustratingly look through every single package of an item on a shelf, in hopes that one of them is not expired, adds unnecessary time to a "quick run to the store." It doesn't have to be just one type of item either. I've spent countless minutes, well, hours at this point, sorting through week-expired salad kits, moldy oranges, fuzzy berries, bacon that expired weeks prior, month+ expired yogurt for my baby and toddler, even the shredded cheese from the Obama administration with green mold growing in the bag. Just today, I went to grab string cheese for my 4 year old...but it expired on August 13th, 11 days ago. I took a picture of the expiration date and sent it to my wife, as I always do. The thing was that I did this less than two feet away from the guy who was stocking the cheese shelves. I told him that the state of this dairy case never fails to disappoint with it's expired products. He didn't give a ****. That expired bacon I mentioned, well, that expired on June 9th and I was taking a picture of the expiration date on June 26th. Seriously, people could get very sick or die from this overpriced, expired food. Yes, Safeway is also the most expensive store in this area, not called Whole Foods. Even last August, 2016, I was looking at a football magazine and then checked the date on it..."Display until 06/10/14." Freaking two year old magazine on their shelf, as if that is acceptable. Even when I swallow my pride and accept that I'm not going to be getting every item I had on my grocery list due to chronic expiration, I'm still stuck worrying if the food isn't going to expire while I'm standing in line to check out, because this store seems to treat customers as if they are a burden. The staff really are generally very nice in almost every experience I have, but I'm pretty sure that I'm done here. In the last few months, I've started driving all the way to Wegman's with a cooler in my car for the cold items and I've found that my wallet is happier, my fridge and pantry have everything from my grocery list and my food is actually lasting longer because of proper food stocking at the store.
