My brother purchased a pump from this Safeway, but it didn't work. When he returned to the store, Valeria, the manager, refused to refund the tax. While I was there, I witnessed him trying to resolve the issue. I politely asked Valeria if I could ask her a question, but she completely ignored me and wouldn't even look at me. She simply said she had already explained to my brother that she would not refund him. I asked if I could speak with the store manager, and Valeria said the manager was busy. I told her I didn't mind waiting, but she walked away and never returned. Her behavior was extremely rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. At that point, it wasn't even about the refund anymore--it was about the poor customer service. Another employee, Brian, was working at the register. When my brother tried to ask him a question, he refused to help and simply said he was on a register. I also asked an older male employee for Valeria's name, and he claimed he didn't know it. The lack of professionalism from multiple employees was disappointing. There are cameras in the customer service area, and I hope management reviews the footage and provides additional training to these employees. The only positive experience we had was with NINA, who works at self-checkout. She treated us with kindness, respect, and professionalism. She resolved the situation politely and was incredibly sweet. I wish the other employees would learn how to treat customers from her example. Was staying nearby and stopped by to get some groceries. Standard grocery store, well stocked and no issues finding what we needed. The issue I had was with the cashier, Litzi. She is the epitome of lazy. She asked us if we needed bags for our groceries, and we replied yes (we had a lot of groceries). Then she proceeded to ask us to "help" her bag our groceries. Ok, not unreasonable. I bagged a few items then looked up and just saw lazy Litzi watching me bag the groceries. No attempt to help, she even started to scan the next customers groceries. Wtf. We bought $300 worth of groceries. Bag my sh@t lazy cashier. Do better lazy Litzi, do better. Litzi needs additional training in customer service. She sucks. read more

Grocery section seemed clean and well stocked. Came in on a snowy day to grab a quick hot bite to eat. Went to the deli and they had a deal for $9 for an entree and two sides. We ordered chicken tenders, potato wedges, and deviled egg potato salad. Chicken tenders were just.... Stale. And hard. And all bread and no chicken. Very disappointing. Potato wedges had no salt and were so bland. Potato salad was weird. Just a very poor meal. Wasn't expecting much getting food like that from a grocery deli but it was disappointing even for my low expectations. Also they had no ranch...... Ruth from Safeway was shockingly rude. She yelled at my husband for putting groceries on the belt before the customer ahead of us finished. Isn't that what the divider is for? Sorry our vegetables upset you. When it was our turn, I said good morning. She snapped back, "No it isn't." I get that you're busy, but there's no reason to be that hostile. She slammed our items across the belt, smashing avocados and bruising fruit. When I went to pay with cash, she stayed on her phone and told me to follow the pin pad. I said I had cash, and she groaned like I was ruining her day. I paused to count the change she gave me and she snapped, "It's correct. Next." What makes this worse is that every other worker we interacted with was very pleasant and kind. Didn't realise the raspberries had mold until I had purchased them and was out of the store. Once I realised there was mold we went back back in and spoke to the manager briefly and he said I could just go exchange it for another package of similar product. Every single box that I opened had mold in it. The manager was pretty astounded and was very apologetic about the whole thing. So I'm not sure what happened to all the moldy raspberries. Stopped here while taking a quick trip to North Lake Tahoe... we needed to use the restrooms and grabbed a bite to eat for lunch. Restrooms were pretty clean for public grocery store bathrooms. We saw the sandwiches which looked appetizing and decided to eat grab a JUMBO sandwich. It was VERY filling with large pieces of bread. My only issue was the raw onion inside which I promptly removed. For $8 per person a quick grab and go was a great option and really fresh. If we are back this way and need an easy option for food this would definitely be a place to get something easy and healthy for not a ton of money. read more

Their associates at self check out have a very interesting approach. They ask you if you have a phone number, when you say yes, they say "ok let me go ahead and bypass this questionnaire so it doesn't keep asking you." Then they proceed to mark all the boxes saying it was an exceptional experience. Highest rating on all of the options. They do this on your behalf as if they're bypassing the questions for you. This Safeway was the closet big grocery store to our hotel and we needed some essentials for our family. They do have a large parking lot and they are open 24/7. I would say that this location is great, and they had most of what we needed but the store itself is SEVERELY understaffed. If you want the basics like veggies, fruits, etc, you can find it here but it will be marked up because of the supply/demand. The lines are long; self-check out may be the way to go if you want go get in and out. Overall - would definitely come back for the things our family needs but I try to come to Tahoe with the essentials already purchased from our home grocery store and placed in the cooler so we don't get the upcharge! read more

I was in town for a few days right smack in the summer high tourist season. I needed some provisions. It seems that Safeway has this area locked down corporate grocery store wise. The Kings Beach location has a big ole parking lot. Easy peasy parking. They have a Starbucks inside near the front by the cash registers. Plus they have self check registers. The interior was clean and a bit more updated than the one in Tahoe City. The shop had what I needed. Water, drinks, fruit, snacks, deli sandwiches, and fresh baked donuts (yes... donuts is a need of mine). The deli sandwich counter folks worked the maniac crazy long lines on weekday summer lunch rushs like pros. But word to the wise, the Italian sandwich is made with marinated mozzarella slices. The sandwich and wrap gets super oily. It's yummy but messy. The summer staff was helpful and friendly enough. read more

Visited Safeway before the lake and had issues with the coupons/on sale items. I let an employee know at the self check out and her solution was "figure out how much it is and I'll adjust it". Like I'm supposed to do the math, when I showed pictures of the shelf and the prices it was advertised. She seemed very nonchalant and didn't care to actually help. This place is so ridiculous! I am definitely calling the corporate office to complain about the management. I know for a fact it is unacceptable for the lines to be this long an for only one person to be checking out the whole store. I have now been waiting in like for 37 mins. And it hasn't really moved. What bothers me is the cashiers an the baggers aren't even trying to hurry. They are taking their time and just Lolly gagging. This is totally unacceptable and unprofessional So after waiting so long a checker came to the end of the line to grab people to check out. I'm pretty sure you aren't going to find a better Safeway anywhere, let alone a small tourist town like King's Beach. Granted, my experience was on a Wednesday night in November, but it was empty, clean and full of everything at some great prices (no price gouging here!). Can we give it up for their incredible wine and beer section. Their wine selection rivals a lot of wine shops in the Bay. Although none are those indie labels we know and love, they legit have every major label (with some good wines) stocked, along with Reno & Tahoe heavy craft beer. Staff were nice, plenty of parking and overall, a great experience for my shopping needs during a long weekend trip. read more

Of course I didn't, so I was in shock at the complete wasteland that is the produce section of this Safeway. It looked like a natural disaster must have hit and everyone came rushing in for the produce, leaving only one pititful mushy avocado, three or four moldy onions and a whole lot of rotting pears on the shelf. Pathetic. Then there's only two check-out lines going (one is Express, but the cashier is standing there bored with no customers) so really there's only one giant line. We've been coming to this Safeway every year when we vacation in Kings Beach, and the customer service has been great. Sadly, we can easily say we've never experienced such poor customer service anywhere as we have at the Safeway this year. People working in the deli make you feel like you're bothering them. We had to wait a while for someone to come help us, even though there were no other customers there. One of the deli employees was loudly using foul language like that's totally acceptable there. When we were checking out, the cashier and bagger were speaking to each other in a foreign language the entire time. It seemed as if their conversation was more important than doing their jobs. The cashier was very friendly when she addressed us. Today at the deli, the guy who helped us didn't make eye contact, and did not turn around or say anything when my husband asked that he slice our turkey thin - he just nodded the second time my husband asked him. In fact, he asked another customer if the turkey he was getting for us was sliced correctly, and the guy said "yes" and we all laughed about it - the guy helping us never knew he was speaking to the wrong customer. After he also got some chicken for us, he walked away and got a drink of water. He eventually noticed we were still standing there, so he came back over and asked if we needed anything else, which we did. I'm hoping this is not the new normal for this store. I know it can be hard to get good employees these days, but seemed like maybe they didn't have any/enough basic customer service training. Hoping next year is better. read more

I have to say that this store has gone downhill. I went into the store today at 1000am and could not find anyone to check my transaction. None of the registers were manned. I went to the deli to pay as well but was told to go get in the Starbucks line. That line was out the door as they had only one person making coffees and doing the transactions. I finally walked to the managers office and asked if I could pay for my item. He appeared annoyed as I followed him to the register. Once at the register he got on the PA system asking for a checkout. Nobody showed zo he finally rung me up. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. No wonder this us one of the stores where theft is rampant. This is the staple of Tahoe in the King's Beach area. Every time my friends and I come to Tahoe, we always stop by this location to buy anything we might need or have forgotten. Plenty of college and young adults come here for alcohol and food. This place is open 24 hours based on yelp. They have everything you need from a bakery with cake to a wide selection of alcohol. I really enjoy this location and the people that work here. They have a large parking lot which makes finding parking very easy. This is walkable from the quaint little downtown area. read more

I'm thrilled that i live close to a 24/hour supermarket. In a small town like this, you have to be grateful for the small things in life. Overall, Safeway is a corporate supermarket so you can't expect a Trader Joe's customer service here. I'd love to acknowledge Judy from the sandwich department. Over the holidays, she worked tirelessly & it became a habit to come in and say hello to her everyday. For an older lady, she has a kick ass attitude. There are several clerks who are customer oriented & work efficiently. I'd like to point out that the short, long black haired clerk (can't recall her name) will embarrass you for your groceries. Every time I'm in her line she points out an "odd" item & proceed to tell me how nasty that is. Very unprofessional and uncalled for. Safeway, please re-enforce customer service & proper conversation with guests. On the positive side, they just installed self check out stands & i could not be more excited. They finally stepped their game up & it's going to open so much more room in the check out stands that are rarely staffed. read more

A 24-hour Safeway with ample parking smack dab in the center of North Lake Tahoe? Sold. This store had a good bakery department, a huge wine selection, and anything you might need to hole up in your rental (which is what we did). Produce wasn't the greatest, but it was in the low season and also not summer, so I'm not holding them to it. The checkout people were friendly and helpful, and the prices were fair. Also, the Starbucks inside was a nice touch, although there was only one table that seated four people, so it's not a good place to hang out. read more
