Had such a bad experience here today with the older lady with glasses. SO rude, no manners whatsoever. We spent so much money in the store and told our kids they can also grab a souvenir. She yelled at them twice for trying to pick something. She made my daughter cry over a stupid keychain. People were waiting to be helped and she would make eye contact and not even acknowledge that they were waiting to be assisted. Everyone was looking at each other wondering if she was going to stop and assist and help. Instead she was making herself a sandwich. What a horrible way to talk to people. Especially kids. But for the love of g-d when customers request "no mayo" and the order form says "no mayo" at least have staff that understands what that means. As a longtime local, it's disappointing to say how far downhill this place has gone. I've been coming here for about 8 years (5-10 times a year) and over the last few years the customer service has become consistently terrible. I've given this place chance after chance because its a local biz but I'm finally done. I've never had an issue with the sandwich makers to be clear-- yes some have maybe forgot ingredients, but I don't see that as a big issue worth approaching them on. The real problem has consistently been the woman working the register. Nearly every interaction I've had with her has been rude, dismissive and just unpleasant. You'd think this person was being forced to work with no pay. This has happened both in person over and over the phone. Most recently I called with a simple question and she was immediately rude and dismissive and ultimately hung up while I was still speaking. Unfortunately this wasn't surprising. Based on other reviews it seems I'm far from the only person who has experienced this. For a small local market charging premium prices, basic customer service shouldn't be too much to expect. There are SO many better sandwich shops in the area and even the employees at Safeway down the road are consistently friendlier. After years of giving this place another chance I won't be back. The best experiences I've had here are the ones where I don't have to interact with anyone and that pretty much says it all. So long Central Market! read more

Not disability friendly. Told me I couldn't be in there with my service dog contrary to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Made up some rule about the deli counter being too low. STAY AWAY FROM HERE! Older woman with black hair and glasses working at the cash register was very rude to us. She said some insulting things to me and my partner. We stopped in for some snacks during the snow fest Parade. Everyone seeming to be happy expect for her. Her offensive comments were totally random and unprovoked. I have lived in Kings Beach for 15 years. I remember when this store used to be the old auto parts store. I will no longer be shopping at Central market because of this employee. Cute little shop located in central Kingsbeach. The hardest working woman I've seen running this place. We were passing by and decided to have dinner by the lake and walk across the street with our sandwiches and fruit. They serve pre-made sandwiches that are made daily, made to order items, and fresh pressed juices. Do note that they stop service at the counter at 5 and their time is a bit earlier than ours. We picked up what they had made for the day. Fruit cups, tajin and half sandwiches. They're a bit pricey for half sandwiches, but were good. Don't forget your condiments, some are equipped with them. Let me begin with the good: the sandwiches from here were very tasty - pricey, but worth it in my opinion. Our trio had 2 toasted sandwiches and one deli sandwich. The bad: they took forever between order time and pickup (20-30 min) and it didnt matter if you got a toasted one or if it was cold. Of note, the parking was abysmal. The bank next door had several open spots but you can't park there without risk of being ticketed or towed. The main street is a highway and only has loading spots in front of the market. As you can imagine prices here are high for just about everything - but they are the only little market/deli in Kings Beach until you get to the Safeway at the turnoff to Truckee. I'd probably order from them again but I'd place the order online or over the phone - because there really isnt space to wait for your order in the market. read more

The sandwich was really good but one person from our group ordered the sandwich first and was charged $17.95 second person who ordered it was charged $18.95 (same sandwich). Hello Yelpers and Foodies in the know. Tahoe Central Market is directly across the street from Lake Tahoe and the Market has a great sandwich shop inside the market. The Deli meat is Boars Head Brand and is my favorite. I ordered Two Sandwiches and Crafted Potato Chips along with soft drinks. The employees have a great attitude and professional service along with a lot of positivity. The market has many things to choose from including chess and meat trays ready to go for fast takeout. They have specialty items like drinks, chips, salads and great sandwiches. Tahoe Central Market is a great place with a perfect location. Parking is on the street and across the street. My husband and I visited the market for lunch, ordered sandwiches and bought a couple of beverages. The sandwich was huge! I ate half and saved the rest for dinner. The service was prompt and friendly. We enjoyed our lunch on the patio area in front of the market with my dogs, and the cashier came out to greet us all with treats for the pups. The market has a very nice selection of fruits and veggies, snacks, drinks, ready to eat sides, and our sandwiches were made to order with fresh, crisp veggies. We absolutely LOVE Tahoe Central Market! So so so many wonderful things to say. They have an incredible array of organic, clean foods....WELL beyond what you would expect for a neighborhood market. Everything is so clearly carefully curated! We love their sandwiches - they are huge and always packed full of delicious goodness. We are vegetarian and their veggie sandwiches do not disappoint! Their juices and smoothies are always on pointe. The reason for the review today is we tried their breakfast burrito and it was so delicious!! Again, being vegetarians, it can be difficult to find food that feels substantial and also super tasty. The wonderful woman who made our burrito loaded it with avocado instead of meat, plus perfectly cooked tater tots, the right amount of cheese, and super fresh pico de gallo! Just no. Sandwiches are too small and expensive for what they are. They messed up on a standard sandwich (damn good sandwich) using a dry bland French roll when it should be Dutch crunch. I would not have tipped at all if I had known they screwed it up. My other sandwich the Bobby has super duper dry and smushed bread. I'm from SF and fine dine often in addition to going to standard restos that only charge around $150 for two. I'm used to expensive meals, tiny portions, and high tip/fake health fee surcharges , but this was just way too small for what it is and not deserving of tip at all. I'm also petite at 125lbs so not like I need a ton of food to get full either. 2 stars for the taste being mid overall, but everything else is bad. Like $40 including tip for two small sandwiches? Adorable little market in town. My family and I were here for a few days during an extended weekend getaway and we stopped here everyday to grab sandwiches for lunch and snacks for Kings beach across the street. Huge sandwiches with tons of meat, options for bread and tons of options. I loved the Turkey on Sourdough with Pesto Mayo, Honey Mustard and peppers!! They have an wide assortment of things including fresh fruits, veggies, grab and go items. We customized turkey sandwiches for our kids (they LOVED the big sandwiches they got). I've been a returning customer for some time, but after today, I will never be coming back. When I arrived, I was disappointed to find the deli closed. I figured maybe they were understaffed or had run out of items -- things happen. I've always liked their egg salad, so my husband and I grabbed some from the ready-made bar, along with the pesto pasta, chips, and a drink. We sat outside to regroup and figure out what to eat since, again, the deli was closed. While we were talking, we started eating the items we had just bought from the market -- only to discover the pesto pasta was spoiled. Mold on the olives. Absolutely disgusting. Still, we didn't complain, even though we had every right to. Around 5:15 PM (their sign says they close at 6), they began putting away chairs and tables. Not a big deal. We decided to grab food from Taco Bell next door since it was close and didn't require moving the car. At 5:30 PM, while we were eating the items we had purchased from the market, a woman -- the same one who's often at the register -- came outside and yelled at us that they were closing and that "this isn't Taco Bell!" I tried to explain that we had bought food from their store, but she cut me off and stormed back inside before I could say a word. Yes, it's not Taco Bell. But we were customers, we had purchased food, and we weren't loitering or being disrespectful. If she had just spoken to us like a normal person, we would've left without a word. But that's not how she handled it. Frankly, I can't help but feel that her aggressive tone and the way we were treated had something to do with the fact that my husband and I are people of color. There was no reason for her to come at us like that, especially when they sold us spoiled food and were still open for another 30 minutes. Bottom line: the service is rude, the food is spoiled, and I won't be supporting this business anymore. Avoid this place. read more

Went in on July 31 to get some snacks for a beach day. Mostly everything didn't have price tags on it, so you didn't know how much you were spending until you paid. We got 2 sandwiches. I got the veggie wrap and it was pretty good! Best part of our purchase. We also got a turkey sandwich and the dutch crunch roll was soooo dry and stale that my fiance had to eat only the inside and threw away the bread. There was also only half a slice of cheese and barely any turkey. We got two canned cocktails, one small package of chocolate, two sandwiches, 2 peaches, a small bag of tortilla chips and a small salsa and somehow we walked out paying $70. I know this is Kings Beach and inflation is real, but dang! Also, kinda weird but while we were checking out, it was pretty busy and we made small talk with the lady at the register. We said something along the lines of "seems busy, is this pretty normal for you guys on the weekends?" and she responded saying that she doesn't understand why its so busy and how "people seem to think they are the only place open" and how they could get a sandwich anywhere else to make her life easier..... kinda put us off that she was hoping for less people to shop there.
