Worst experience ever... Placed an in person cupcake order a week in advance I asked for red, white and blue, and got blue frosting with blue writing..brown and yellow? Then made my way over to the flowers, i picked out 3 different flowers that I wanted the person behind the counter to put in a vase, not only did she want to charge me $10 extra dollars to arrange them, and $1 extra dollar for the box to hold the vase, but she complained that she needed to go, that Safeway would not pay her overtime... So she left to ask her Manager what should she do... Then came back to the desk and took the 3 different flowers and shoved them in the vase all bunched together. White roses on one side all purple iris in the middle and the yellow flowers bunched and thrown in on one side to the point that the stems broke. But she continued on so she should clock out. I got not decorative tissue for the box, and no ribbon. YIKES !!!!!! Then I asked for 3 balloons and she even charged me for the weight that holds the balloons down.... I went to get a burrito bowl from the deli and an associate named Vicki, was extremely rude getting angry and rolling her eyes because we asked for a burrito bowl. Then when I asked for something not in it she said ew that's disgusting. Regardless hope this lady never makes my food again. Normally, I would give four stars to Safeway, but this review focuses on the 2013 Thanksgiving meal take out service. Quite simply, the food was awful. The meat was rubbery, the potatoes watery, the gravy salty, the pie bland. For $50 we expected better. I now wouldn't recommend buying any pre made food from them. read more

I find this Safeway store ridiculous if you just need a few items. Parking crowded, aisles have displays in the way, not enough cashiers - all the time. Getting through the front end of the store makes me crazy trying to get past all the people in line. Also the self-check is often not open. Why not put the bank, the Starbucks, Jamba juice and all the stuff we didn't come to the store for on one side, so we can get our basics and get out. I don't want to make grocery shopping an all day experience. Just give me my stuff and let me out. Why do I need to walk clear across the store for my 10 basic items? Are you kidding me? I'm glad I'm not handicapped. Safeway pricing in general is also crazy. Every week I have to decide on a different bread because the regular bread I like is $2.00 more than what's on sale. Why do the prices have to vary so much for basic items? Every week you have to decide - should I buy eggs or wait till they're on sale? Stupid waste of time. They also try to get you to buy waaay more than you need. That's fine on toilet paper and paper towels, but I don't need two bags of salad or 2 big pks. of strawberries (2 for one's). Also why do I need to buy 2 gallons of milk to get a deal when I go to the store every week. It just takes up more space in my refrigerator. read more

The pharmacy is helpful. As for the general check outs, when it is not busy, they never open more than 2 lines but it always takes a long time waiting for the check out. Not as long as Walmart, but it could be faster. If you like the food bars that are in Whole Foods, they have Chinese food, soups, nuts that you pick yourself, plus a sandwich/salad area where they make stuff for you. The store always looks clean overall, except from two places - the floor between the dairy and crackers aisles had some sticky black stuff all over it one time, and the meat area had some dried old piece of something like chicken loose at the bottom (not where the red meat is but where packaged branded entrees are opposite the red meat). The produce section is hit and miss. For example. when there are bright green avocadoes, they stay usable for a week and are much bigger than Walmart avocadoes. But sometimes there are just no decent avocadoes left, the majority are always dark and past their best. I like the variety of the bakery section. Ciabatta, French bread and big bread rolls are among the breads baked in store then there are loads of different kinds of sliced bread from other brands. One time I bought Safeway brand sliced bread and upon opening it there was a fly baked into the bread! So, I avoid that bread but bread baked in store is normal and tastes fine. Safeway does a lot of price altering. In late 2016 they raised the price of their Box of 5 Croissants from $5 to $6 with no notice, no increase in quantity or quality of the croissants. They overcharge for certain things (especially non-food items) but if you keep an eye on the offers you can get some wonderful deals! I.e. one time I got two large tubs of Safeway brand ice cream (1.43 litres each) for less than the price of a tiny tub of the other brands. Overall, Safeway has a great variety of American foods and a decent, affordable range of foods from other countries. I find it very easy to eat healthily from the shopping done at Safeway. I wish they would make things a little cheaper overall, not increase prices without increasing quantity. And they should restock the Loacker wafers that they once had in the cookies/crackers area. read more

Ladies beware- There is a man by the name of Michael who works here in the bakery and possibly the butcher counter that is known to sexually harass women and young girls including underage girls. He has also followed some women to their cars and will stand outside the store and just stop every girl he sees to have a conversation. At first he might seem normal but he soon becomes very inappropriate. He is 30 years old, about 5'10, hispanic, light skinned, dark hair, and has braces. If you come in contact with this man avoid him, do not give him any of your info like your number/social media and report him to management or the Livermore police department. read more

Check your cash register receipt carefully before you leave the store. At this Safeway, I have been charged for 20 peppers when I bought just 2. You may think you are buying a $3 cauliflower, but the receipt will say $3.99. Yes, mistakes happen, but here they happen too often and are always to the store's benefit. read more

The store is certainly nice looking and the selection substantial. The checkers occasionally leave something to be desired in the area of friendliness however which really detracts from the experience. The checker is the last person you see on your way to the door and they can either sour a good experience or mend a not so great one. This Safeway could easily earn four or even five stars by getting more people working the registers who show some sign of wanting to be there. read more

My go to grocery store, and not just because it's two miles from my house. Incredible selection, great staff, and pretty good deals on the app. Skimming the reviews, I don't think y'all seem to understand that this is the only grocery store that's easily accessible for us Springtowners. Meaning like 10,000+ people do their main grocery shopping here. Don't blame the cashier for the slow service and long lines, blame PW for putting themselves out of business. It is a 24/7 store, which I am so grateful for. Just be prepared to sidestep boxes and carts of stock, and to wait for a cashier. Corporate seems to be too cheap to provide the labor hours to keep a dedicated cashier past midnight (or maybe no one wants the gig), so you'll have to wait a bit for someone to come over. I don't mind because I'm still able to grocery shop at 3am. Minus two stars for ridiculous list pricing and the company culture that drives so many workers away. Adding a star cause they does such a great job keeping up with night work and handling rude as hell customers. read more

I purchased on April 6th 2019 a Rucula salad in a box. When I opened it at home, the salad was totally rotten. I went yesterday back to Safeway to return it and also address my concerns. The Safeway associate just took the salad box, throw it in the trash, handed me 5 $ cash and say: "Sorry about that"! I expected that he would take some note in order to start an investigation to find out how this could happen and prevent that this happened again. I would have never thought to review Safeway, if it weren't for the reminder I got today at the *other* Safeway (the downtown 1st street location) of how much better their layout and stock is. I am not fool enough to do ALL my grocery shopping at Safeway, but for some items it's just faster and easier to get it here. Yes, they remodel a lot... but you can at least count on them having the basics in stock at all times. Every time I go to the other Safeway, I can't find half the items on my list regardless of the time of day. This Safeway manages to keep things in a logical order despite whatever construction is going on and you can count on finding pretty much everything. I love the new remodeled Safeways. Their bakeries are pretty awesome for bread and they have a very decent variety of cheeses. Their wine section is pretty wide. This location has an indoor seating area to enjoy any of the deli, sushi or hot food available. There's also a jamba juice and a coffee bar in this location as well. read more

I usually get gas at Costco since it's close to my job, but since we are avid Safeway shoppers, we get gas rewards regularly from Safeway. Usually the rewards are 3 cents off, but last week I got 20 cents off! Awesome! Nothing spectacular about this place. It's just a pretty clean gas station that we visit regularly. The bakery was awful. We called in an order for two custom cakes for kids and they didn't offer character cakes. Just said they could do vanilla or chocolate. Then, when the cakes were made, they put purple flowers on my son's chocolate cake and spelled his name wrong. My daughter's cake was sloppy and we could barely read the wording. These cakes were for the kids first big birthday and this bakery did an awful job. I'd go to Whole Foods , Lucky, or another bakery if you want a special occasion cake. Lesson learned. I won't use Safeway and I won't wait until the last minute to order cakes. Whole Foods was booked a week out. Local bakeries wanted 2 weeks or longer. read more

I live right around the corner so by default this is our regular grocery store and boy do I appreciate it. Before the remodel it was just your average run of the mill store but now it has the pretty hardwood floors, Starbucks, jamba juice, a sushi bar, eat-in cafe, and a great wine section! My hubby has no idea that the reason I don't complain when I have to run out and pick up a few things before dinner is because I usually get to taste some great wine in the process. Go shopping around 5 or 6 and you'll see, there's usually a little party going on in the back right corner. Wine tasting and snacking on hors d'oevres in the middle of grocery shopping is such a nice treat. They've also been really helpful with making very good wine pairing suggestions that don't break the bank. One more side note - love the Jamba Juice counter. The employees here are much friendlier and more generous than every other jamba juice location I've visited. Whenever I order my usual drink and I have my kids with me, they usually make a little extra and give my kids a small complimentary cup to keep them happy too. I love the service all around - there are lots of employees throughout the store asking if they can help you find anything and I've never had the incredibly frustrating experience here of standing in a long line because most of the registers are closed because they are short on cashiers. I believe this is the best Safeway store in California. I used to work nearby and they had a 'grand opening' day after all of the construction was completed. I saw a lot of suits that day, so I think this store is the "test" layout for future safeways. It is AMAZING. AMAZING QUALITIES: 1. There is a nut bar. (No.... take your mind out of the gutter.) They roast nuts. (your mind is still there... huh?) They have fresh made almond butter, pistachio butter, all sorts of nut-butter (stop that thought), organic honey, brittle, and fresh roasted nuts. 2. Bulk Grains. So much cheaper than packaged flour, sugar, popcorn... whatever. They have dried fruits and trail mixes, bulk grains (rice, flour, cous cous, etc.), and some candy in this aisle. 3. Wine bar. Wineries come and actually have tastings on week nights! Yes... stop by after work... and then drive home. 4. Lunch buffet. They have a buffet table that is stocked by the deli/prepared foods counters. Mainly chinese food, but they also have the chicken/potatoes/american thing going on, too. They charge by the pound, though... 5. Actual sushi bar. Stools to sit at. 6. Coffee roasting machine near the bakery. 7. Gelato counter... yes. Italian ice cream. It's between the deli/cheese counter and the pre-cooked chicken display. Haven't seen it open lately... not since the grand opening. 8. They have an express check out at lunch time... it's two registers in front of a refrigerator case of every drink you can think of. Grab and go... I never used it, though. 9. Self Check out 10. They have Starbucks AND Jamba Juice inside. Plus they have the standard Safeway junk. Aisles of food, produce, flowers, dairy, meat, etc. I shop at safeway regularly. I used to work in Livermore and live in Berkeley. I now live in Fremont. I've been to the Livermore, Castro Valley, Berkeley, Multiple Fremont, San Jose, Carmel, and some Oakland store locations and the Livermore location is absolutely the best. Other stores might have one or two of the "extras" I've listed above, but the Livermore store has it all. Definitely go by, just to look if you're not hungry. read more

If you are a senior citizen, do not shop at this store. They seem to almost always make a mistake at the cash register and the mistakes are always in their favor. Just an hour ago, they substituted Olive bar for cabbage and my bill zoomed a whopping 300%. Another time 20 bell peppers when I bought just two. It's now the closest grocer to us, so we shop there. We've been there so much that we know where our favorite items are and when they're at a good deal. Never thought I would be reviewing a major grocery store, but was feeling the need to share after an experience with a particular male cashier with very thick glasses and dark mustache that even if there was no line, I would avoid checking out with. Apparently ever since we started to have to pay for our bags, there seems to be an absence of baggers. Instead of explaining this to us or God forbid simply asking, he just kept scanning items and pushing them aside until the pile got big enough and then looked me in the eye and said "Aren't you going to start bagging these?" Dude, be grateful I didn't backhand you right then and there for being outwardly rude. The only reason there are any stars on this review at all is because of Charmaine (sorry if I spelled it wrong). That girl is always pleasant, helpful, and I dig her collection of colorful hair flowers and matching accessories. Makes her hard to miss ;o) Just across the main street, though, is a collection of stores that can provide everything this Safeway could, including Target and BevMo, and it's almost as easy as finding all you need. This five star rating is for Vicki in the deli. Me and my girlfriend come in here a few times a week to get sandwiches and love the service. She always gives terrific customer service and she's so nice! Other employees never smile, and seem like they do NOT want to be there. I am disgusted. I waited almost 20 minutes in the deli line while one girl staffed the hot food and coldcuts. Once she served me, her English was insufficient to understand I wanted cheddar cheese. Then she rang my roast beef at the wrong price, which I understand could happen easily... but when I got to checkout, the only option I had was to return to the deli counter to tell them tor retag my food. The selection of unique, hard to find items at this store is amazing. They've also improved the qualify of their fresh veggies & fruits, because for a while, they looked like seconds. Great wine & dessert selection. If you want a deli sandwhich though, DON'T get it here!!! Go to the downtown Safeway where they'll still cut fresh baked sourdough rolls for you, the kind with the soft inside but crunchy crust. This safeway just goes out of their way to open a package of soft Columbo sourgough rolls. Not the same thing, not nearly as good. And the dutch crunch? It's missing the crunch. Might be homemade in the bakery, but not much flavor. I dread going to this store! I only go here when I'm too lazy to drive across town to Lucky's. The staff is so so rude. Last time I was here the cashier stopped bagging my groceries when another safeway employee asked her about what she would like to order from the deli counter for lunch. My 3 yr old daughter had already grew very impatient from waiting in the long line. Neither one of the employees cared that she was screaming to go, they just continue to get her sandwich order correct, while I bagged my own groceries. There lines are always long here also. At Lucky's if theres three in a line they open another check out stand. I have used the bathrooms there twice and both times they were disgusting! The second time there wasn't any toilet paper in the automatic dispenser that holds two giant rolls. Really how long had it been since someone cleaned the bathroom for it to be out of toilet paper, GROSS! Thirdly I hate the card thing. I really do. I feel like I'm being insulted and tracked. I know this is silly, but come on. Just make one price. Thats not a bargain club, Its just a ridiculous price without this stupid card. Again Lucky's prices are cheeper, the staff is friendly, lines are short. Yes there is not nearly the selection as Safeway but, I find everything I need for much cheeper, without long lines and rude staff. read more
