Review for produce and carnitas (fried pork) Carnitas. Came to Contreras at about 9am (they open at 8) They were just pulling the carnitas out of the cazo and putting them on display. We were first to order and many people lined up after us to get them. Carnitas were fresh, hot and almost as good as they use to be (you know back in the day when everything tasted just a little bit better) Ordered 5 lbs when I had in mind to originally order 3. Produce. Can't have tacos with out the sides! The limes were just ok - I know its a crap shoot depend on shipment. The cilantro was kinda wilted and it took me some digging around to find a good bunch. Over all, the price is still really good. Flavor is good and we would most likely come back for carnitas.

Just a dot in their spice inventory.

Legit Mexican Mart in Livermore. Livermore historically has always had a solid Mexican presence, therefore you know there will be stores to service such a community. Not really gonna find that in the neighboring towns of Dublin and Pleasanton. #demographics It isn't as large as say a Mi Pueblo, which is supermarket size. It is real close to a Chavez Market, which is about double the size of a 7-11. But don't let the square footage fool ya on offerings, this is a FULL service Mexi-Mart. It has a meat counter with butchers, a bakery and even a taqueria tucked in the back. I go to my own Mexi-Mart in my area, but I came here for a specific reason. They have an aisle here that stocks Peruvian dry goods. The one in my area does not. I got several Peruvian Chiles in jar form to play around with Peruvian flavors at home. I can't wait to use them! This place is great for spices and dried chiles. More varieties than I can name and a really great price. Instead of getting that tiny sprinkle jar of cinnamon or nutmeg at Safeway for $6+, you can get a small baggie of it here for under $2. I just refill those sprinkle jars for convenience. I also heard they cook carnitas on the weekends that you can buy by the pound. But I heard you have to get them early as they are popular. Now if the local Mexican peeps are flocking here and utilizing the services, that's enough reason for me to do the same.

wowowowow this place is so amazing! Everyone who works there is super friendly and they do one of the best burritos... actually probably THE best burrito... in the tri valley area

This is a great market and taqueria. There is a pretty wide selection of groceries and they are well priced. The taqueria serves LOADED tacos for $2.50 each. The folks (both in the market section and the taqueria section) are kind and helpful. The market is located within the neighborhood and right near May Nissan Park so its convenient to grab the evenings dinner ingredients after a walk. Looking forward to visiting again.

We did come in 10 mins before they were closing, we thought we could still grab some tri tip sandwiches. We walked in and the son said with a sigh and attitude, Hi How can we help you? We ask for the sandwiches to which he sighs again and says Sure! Sarcastically. He checks the cooler then slams that shut. Then the other employee asks what we wanted and he says loud enough for us to hear, just two sandwiches! And the other one responds "I just put that away." Then he says that's usually how it goes!! He comes back out and they're making little comments to each other. We wait maybe 5 minutes and it's ready which is great. Until the other kid dropped the paper bag on the counter and says here you go! With a sarcastic voice and smile. I never want to be a Karen but this was some of the worst customer service I have ever received. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone especially for just two half way decent tri tip sandwich for $38. Yikes. You would think that a family owned business would want to provide good customer service.

They Sell: - American Lamb (Not Gamey, Delicious) - High-Quality Chicken (Mary's) - Homemade Sausages - Solid Pork/Beef (including Wagyu) - Game Meats, Veal, Seafood - Deli Items - Seasonal: Dry-Age Prime Rib, Heritage Turkey, etc. Over time, I've made a conciencous effort to get my proteins here. My rotation has usually been their chicken leg quarters, ribeyes, lamb rib chops, and pork steaks. Recently, I made tandoori lamb chops (my favorite dish) with their American lamb, and it was honestly one of the best versions I've ever made (photo attached). A few extra notes: * Go during the week if you can. It's less crowded and the experience is more personal -- you get to actually talk to the folks behind the counter. * The walkways are tight. Not their fault, just something to be aware of if you're on the taller or bigger side. * Hours can be tough for a 9-to-5. They're open Wednesday through Friday during the week and close at 5, so I've had a few near-misses trying to swing by after work. Weekends are open, but plan ahead. * Online pricing would be a nice add -- would help with planning. * Wishlist: Would love to see limited offerings of premium versions of other proteins -- Iberico or Berkshire pork, Mary's pasture-raised chicken, Ora King salmon, bluefin tuna. And spirits (bourbon, rum) would be a fun addition. Overall, a great business and a real value-add to the community. I'll keep coming back - highly recommend checking out!

Unfortunately I've tried a different sandwich on two occasions now and won't be back again. The first time I got a build your own sandwich ($14) with pastrami. Usually a place either has amazing pastrami or terrible pastrami. I really did not like the pastrami here, it was super chewy which made for an unpleasant experience to the point where I was forcing myself to finish eating it but felt gross after and probably just should have thrown it out. The second time I tried the Del Valle TAB signature sandwich ($16 + $2 tax). For $18 it was incredibly disappointing. It wasn't a nice big sandwich but just a normal size. The bacon was so hard that I had to consciously make sure to eat it slowly otherwise I felt like I was going to break my teeth. And the overall flavor was lacking.
