Have been going there for years, but it time to change. I am so totally fed up with the errors, lack of knowledge, waiting and waiting.

For weeks now, when I go to Safeway on Nave Dr., Which is usually crazy busy, there is only one checkout line open for more than 15 items and the self check-out, that's it. It's painful to shop there. I waited in line for 20 minutes tonight to check out and then I had to bag my own groceries. Is Safeway a poor co-op now? Life's too short for this store, stay away unless you have time on your hands! read more

I have shopped here exclusively for 11 years. Loved it. Knew to stay out of one checkers lane (WM, 40s, nice dark hair) but he cannot multitasks. If he talks, he stops checking. Well now they have the automatic checker and even less employees. I hate them, especially when I am buying $200 worth of food. But it is the only choice when there are 2 aisles for 15 items and a really long one for full carts. There is not enough space to unload all the groceries so you have half the groceries that you have scanned and half full of bags and a stupid voice telling you to put an item in the bagging area. I already have a job, I don't want to ring up my own groceries. Hire some damn people, the store is very nice in every other way. Will never shop there again. read more

Open 24 Hours? Not today anyways. This particular Safeway has always been open 24 hours as long as I have been here. I stopped by just after 1am, 2/27/2018 after being dropped off at the Marin Airporter Hamilton stop. Needed bread so my kid could have a sandwich for tomorrow's lunch. The main entrance had a sign about using the east entrance after 8pm. Went over to the east entrance and none of the doors were opening. I had to make a few knocks before I got any attention from the employees. One employee did make the effort of coming over to the door. The others ignored they even heard me and continued stocking the shelves. The employee mentioned they close at 1am despite me pointing out that there was a sign on the east entrance saying its in 24 hour operation. Very poor service. Even the reviews and YELP show this as being open 24 hours as I write this review now. Unfortunately, they are the only Safeway in this area. There's the Nugget Market but they don't open that late. If you say you are open 24 hours a day, then be open. Shame on you Safeway! read more

This is the nicest Safeway in Marin. When I lived in downtown San Rafael, I used to drive all the way to Novato just to shop here. The produce is really fresh, and there are lots of organic choices. Their cheese department has a lot of variety. I love that there is a Jamba Juice inside. Often we'll stop at the Jamba Juice kiosk first, grab smoothies for the kids, and that keeps them happy while I shop. I also really appreciate how nice everything looks inside. Not run down or dirty like some grocery stores. Of all the big chain grocery stores, is Safeway is my favorite. read more

I was up early so decided to get my grocery shopping done. Safeway has always been my go to store for the basics but never again. Twice I had encounters with rude people stocking the shelves, both women. One had completely blocked the aisle with a cart, I said, excuse me in a very nice manner. She never looked up, never acknowledged me, just moved the cart about an inch or two. I tried to get around it but could not. I actually had to lift the cart up to get it out of my way. She never even looked up, just awful. The other stocker just hesitated when I tried to get through. I thought really, who hires these people? It's also a party atmosphere, trust me not what you want at 6:30 in the morning. Dear Safeway owner, if you are going to stock the shelves at 6:30 in the morning and can't train your employees to keep the carts out of the middle of the aisles then perhaps you shouldn't be open 24/7? You just lost my business. read more

I don't know what it is about Safeway, but every time I go to one of their stores I tend to get the cashier that is complaining about not having his or her break. Today's visit was no exception. As soon as I pulled my cart into the lane next to the self check outs, all I could hear was the cashier talking across to another cashier about how he wasn't getting to his break on time. The two bantered back-and-forth, ignoring the customers they were serving. The lady before me had to correct the cashier twice on over charging for an item. While he corrected the price, he didn't cease conversation with the other cashier. When I arrived at the checkout counter, I offered a greeting but he wouldn't meet me in the eyes. He was still engrossed in conversation with his colleague. Luckily, I only had a few items to pay for and I was gone. This visits makes me wonder why I didn't use the self checkout lanes. I try to patronize the cashiers to keep their job relevant and in place, but after today I have to second guess my actions. If it weren't for the fresh produce and decent prices here, I might just give up on this chain. read more

This is easily the top grocery store in Novato. Let's be honest, the people that work at Starbucks and Jamba Juice never seem particularly happy, and frankly I don't think the people that work at the starbucks IN the Safeway are REALLY Starbuck employees anyway, are they? but everyone else in the store is great. If this is the Safeway on Diablo in Novato, I couldn't agree more. I would add also that their shelves are often empty with common items. Presently, it has the worst manager since the store opened. He is a complete idiot who doesn't seem to care. If you don't speak Spanish or Chinese when you need something from the bakery or deli, bring a translator. This store hires cheap help and doesn't care much about whether they speak English. It's a shame, but they've lost my business because of this. I shop at Lucky now. At least they hire English speaking employees. read more

I did not have a good experience at Safeway today. My friend and I visited the deli for lunch today we waited for over fifteen minutes to be helped and no body came to help us. The staff seemed to be lost, overwhelmed; mainly they were more concerned about taking there breaks on time than helping others. This Safeway is AWESOME!!! I guess I'm coming from a more biased opinion, since I work in the deli there, but still, in my opinion, it rocks. Almost any other Safeway feels tired and worn, but this place has got an energy that seems to emanate from it. While it is true that sometimes the customer service can be somewhat dicey, it's only because most of the employees are new, and are still learning the ropes. I can promise you this, if I'm the one helping you, you'll get great service. Paradise foods across the way, they're gonna have a tough time competing against this store. read more

This Safeway drives me nuts. It is NEVER easy to park unless you come at 7:30 am. The layout is not made for those who have a couple of things to pick up quickly. Nothing is conveniently next to another item, you have to go all the way across the store to get things. I love your pharmacy staff, but the layout of the pharmacy is a drag. There is no way to wait in line without being in someone's way. All the extra bells and whistles are great but the inconvenience of it for me leaves this my last choice for shopping even though its 5 minutes from my house. I honestly feel if the parking lot where redone I would reconsider going to this store. But right now, I am willing to spend more money and go across the freeway to Paradise Market. read more

Place is going downhill fast...never any baskets at the doors and need to go searching for one, no bags for produce, empty shelves, annoying checkers asking for donations. They need to get a clue, if using card for payment it asks there for donation, you don't need to ask me again! It is convenient but has definately gone downhill since opening. read more

Julie Meza is officially GONE from the 5720 Nave Safeway. Guess she couldn't take the heat, or maybe she got scared of the ALBERTSONS buy out and possible closure of the store. One of the Novato stores is probably going to close, or it could be the Lucky store. i like this safeway but today i wanted info about some of the food at the deli area and the lady making sushi said to me " she will help you " all i had was a simple question that disnt require her to stop what she was doing... im just saying bot too good customer service. read more

How can you not like Safeway? They have everything here. Everyone says hello and is cheery, parking spacious and there's a Rite Aid next door so I can pickup my scrips. They stock most of the shit I want and I can get everything done at once. Like all other Safeways or Luckys the seafood section smells of ammonia and the meat is all bright red from being treated with CO. Other than meat and seafood which I would not buy here your pretty much gold. read more

I like this store and it's the main place I get my groceries. The staff is always very nice and helpful, however, I have 2 gripes that apply to ALL Safeway stores... 1. I wish they get rid of all those yellow "new low price" tags on their shelves and freezer cases that indicate permanent price reductions on many items throughout the store. These tags look strikingly similar to the yellow tags indicating Safeway's real, yet temporary, weekly sale prices and specials. This is very misleading, not to mention the fact that some of these permanently reduced prices have been in effect more than a year. 2. I also wish they'd stop making checkers thank customers by name at the checkout, unless they really know your name. There's nothing more insincere than hearing the clerk say, "Thank you, Mrs. (brief pause as they look for your name on the sales receipt) Smith". Half the time they don't pronounce my name correctly. Besides, I don't need everyone in line behind me to know what my name is. A simple "thank you, ma'am" is more than sufficient. Other than these complaints, I'm quite happy with Safeway. read more

I used to love the Hamilton Safeway. Clean, well-stocked, big aisles, large bulk food section and nut bar, easy to get an employee to help you if you needed it. Then they decided to remodel. I often take my mother shopping at a Safeway in Sonoma County. I've always hated it. Half of the aisles are cut in half with a bunch of wasted space with random displays of overpriced crap in the middle that you have to maneuver around to get to the other end of the aisle. So get what? Hamilton Safeway spends who knows how much to remodel their beautiful store to be the same as the one I hate in Sonoma! Ugh! Nut bar? Gone. Large bulk food section? Relegated to a very small section in the back of the produce department and now removed entirely. Helpful, easy to find employees? Nowhere to be found. I stopped by on my way home from work today to pick up a few things from the produce department. The produce department looks awful. Some items were picked clean to the point that it looks like the workers are on strike. There's not one bell pepper of any color to be had. I walk all the way to the front of the store and finally ask someone who works in the Starbucks to page a produce employee. No one shows up after two pages. I finally ask a meat dept. employee to go find one for me. He says there's no one working in the produce department. I go to customer service and ask to speak to a manager. There's one manager in the store but I can't speak with her because she's working a cash register. I tell the customer service person that I'd just like some bell peppers. She says she can help. She proceeds to walk up to a gentleman who is working another cash register and asks him if there are any bell peppers in back. He says no. She explains that he's the produce guy. WTF??? No manager running the store and no one to restock produce because they have to fill in as cashiers?? Is this because they can't afford to properly staff the store because they wasted so much money on a horrific remodel?? I tell you, other than convenience, there is VERY little reason for me to waste my time stopping at this store anymore. When they used to have the great bulk bins and fully stocked produce department it was almost one stop shopping for me. If I have to make the drive to Whole Foods to get bulk items now, I might as well get the rest of my groceries there. The price difference is not so great to make it worth stopping at Safeway and dealing with all the frustrations there... read more

Safeway Pharmacy - WARNING!! This is a serious review for a very serious situation. This pharmacy has completely collapsed. It does not open or close according to posted hours. Some days it doesn't open at all. The Manager claims it's specially licensed and she has no control over it. It takes days to weeks to get a refill. They absolutely will NOT answer the phone to transfer prescriptions to a functional pharmacy. My wife is seriously ill and she is constantly up and down depending on what medicines I can get from Safeway. The only way I can help my wife is to go see every one of 8 specialists in person to get new scripts written and get them to a functioning pharmacy. She is in a wheelchair as a result of this illness and it's quite difficult to get around. Believe me they do not care, they had corporate people there today and they were laughing as I once again explained the situation to the clerk. You never see the same clerk or pharmacist twice because they quit within a day or two. They are worse than useless. Their incompetency can hurt you or your loved should you drop a prescription in hopes of getting medicine. The California State Board of Pharmacy has been notified. The DCA has been notified as well. read more
