Where do I start?? Well tonight, my husband picked up a bag frozen party wings for dinner tonight. He opened the bag and instantly we knew the chicken was bad!! Not to mention just last week, I had to return to this same store spoiled shrimp. (42 dollars worth) So disgusting! A few days later my daughter purchased a package of cheese that was molded! Also, the cold box that holds cheese smells like mold and has now for months! I made staff aware but nothing has changed. This store compared to the Concord stores, is sad. The meat selection is beyond limited, bread always empty. Unless it's a last minute need to go, I will travel to the Concord store. Definitely will not buy meat from this store after tonight. Oh, let's not dorget how the some of the employees are VERY unprofessional. I was being checked out and a female safeway employee decided that it would be ok to walk up and start a random conversation with my cashier as he checked me out. Boldly, for at least 2 minutes before I expressed to her that it was rude and inappropriate. She immediately caught a attitude as if I was wrong. She even went back and forth with me. Just as I explained to her what could happen, and it did!! I was charged twice for my sodas. She works the closing shift. She is Caucasian, on the heavy side with PURPLE HAIR!! This Safeway location is very outdated! Their refrigerators are too old and rusty. Most of times it is broken. The store is very dirty . Outside and inside! It is needed to have its power washed once a while( looks like it was never cleaned before). There has been a vomit next to one of entrance and it has been there for over a week and they don't clean! One of the doors is always broken and they don't fix or change it. And all 3 are in the first 2 rows by auto zone near the store front. Those of us who park further away have to walk all the way back to the store door to return carts. I will, because I was raised right. But I will also go to Sprouts more for convenience of cart return. Also, took out most the handicap spots so I have to park further away AND walk back to the door. Worse Safeway was in Oakland where they got metal gates and one way direction in and out of store like herding cattle. Glad I had no part of living in Oakland. Now pittsburg has joined them. Usually I go to the one in Antioch since it is close to my house. But I was in the area and I needed to get a few things, so I ended up going to this particular Safeway. I visited this store once a few years ago, so I do not remember much, but I never recalled them installing security gates at that time, so imagine my surprise when I found out they ended up installing security gates. The location in Antioch has them too. The layout is different than the other location too. The Pharmacy is at the front of the store next to the flowers, the Produce section is wide, the Butcher Counter is in the back, and there is even a Wells Fargo bank inside. The other location does not have that. I think my biggest problem is the fact that they don't announce when check stands are closing. I went to one in the Cosmetics section (which was in an enclosed area, similar to what Walmart does) as I needed to get something there. Since I was only getting a few things I decided to pay for them in the Cosmetics section. A customer in front of me told me this register was closing. I responded with "Okay, thanks!". And then I ended up going to Self Checkout. Now why didn't the person at the register told me they were closing? Anywho, I paid for my stuff, and left (after I scanned my receipt at the Checkstand). Nothing as bad as everyone else made it seem like, but it could have been better. read more

Did not feel safe at this store, people yelling and threatening to beat up managers that are on duty, including cashiers not a safe environment. Also, the top manager does not do anything. I told her about how I felt and she could care less. She had a defensive attitude as well. Told her how she handled the situation was very unprofessional a woman her child were here. They got mad and they yelled at the top of their lungs at the cashier for not helping them fastly. I really think that the GM did not do her job. Neither did the security guards. They did nothing while this lady threatened to assault the Cashier, I will be calling corporate on behalf of this because I went back into the store and complain to the manager about this. I asked to speak with her higher manager and she said she was I did not get her name, but she had a very bad attitude I did not feel comfortable at all talking to her. Upon arrival, I am immediately confined by gates and scrutinized by security personnel. The only Safeway establishment I've been to that doesn't offer baskets. I walk into the store, preparing to grab a basket and there's none in sight, I turn around and go to quickly grab a cart outside, and I'm crushed by the "loss prevention" gates. My whole body just crushed between both gates. I had no idea it would do that, nor should it have kept closing. I'm in a panic and the security guard looks at my like I'm the crazy one. I beg for a basket and he says "sorry, we don't have those and I can't let you out because this is an exit not an entrance..." regardless of the carts sitting outside the door. I go on about my quest and I'm arms full of food. Out of desperation, I run to the other security guard and ask him if he could get a cart for me, since I had food falling out of my arms. He scoffs and says "sorry can't do that..." at that point he's met with an attitude right back. I'm like "are you kidding?! Where's the customer service? It's just a cart and I wasn't aware you guys were imprisoning your customers by not letting them leave and get a cart...". He says with an attitude back, "someone's having a BAD day!" It took basically 2 and the half months before I got a call back and then told me, becaui got sick for better part of the next day that they would need a drs note saying I visited the dr! To give me compensation for my day of lost wages! They offered me $50 without it! Another including $20 something dollars I spent on the wings from the get go! So the really offered me about$ $25 for my troubles! i haven't been back to buy any cooked food from there since then! One of my co-workers picked up the cake from this location after ordering the German chocolate a day before. She didn't even notice until the day of the party in our office. It was pretty funny; however, had it been for something more special, like a child's birthday party, this would have been a very disappointing message to receive on a birthday cake that didn't even have balloons in frosting on it. This is the only grocery store in the San Marco area, a neighborhood with million dollar houses, and it's filthy and run down. It's a 50% chance that they are out of stock on some items that I intend to purchase. I am not talking about anything special either - keto yogurt, fresh basil, Walden syrup. The floors in the fresh vegetable area are usually dirty. Employees who should be bringing in carts for customers, "hang out" where the carts are collected in the parking lot. Speaking of carts, they never have baskets or carts on the south entrance. On my way to a funeral, I bought a $100 bouquet of flowers and they were out of the decorative boxes to stabilize during the car ride. You can guess what happened from there. They had the blank cards, but didn't have the extra long sticks to place it in arrangement. The lines are often long, not enough employees. There is always something wrong at this store. I have started to shop at Safeway and Whole Foods in Concord. The district manager really needs to overhaul that store. If there was a Whole Foods or another competitor in the neighborhood, it would make them improve their quality. read more

While out in Bay Point I figured I would do some quick shopping on my way back to Sacramento. I picked up a few things and my honey wanted and sandwich made, so being we didn't know we stood waiting our turn and finally one of the deli employees said, we needed to pull a number. Seriously?! Put a sign up or something! Finally, it's our turn and the girl that was helping us rubbed her nose with her glove..ewww! I politely asked her if she would wash her hands and change gloves? She had a slight attitude about my request. I should have known we should have just walked out, but honey wanted that sandwich. Finally, we her sandwich made and I had a just 4 you discount that made the sandwich way cheaper, for some reason it wasn't working and not only did the employee acknowledge, but the manager also confirmed they were having issues with the app and asked me to show them which I did and the manager agreed to adjust the price and then changed her mind when I was getting ready to pay. So, I was like forget this I'll just go to the store when I get back in town. The girl from the deli was like, so, yojndor want the sandwich anymore? I politely said, No. And walked out. This is a small Safeway that is sometimes poorly stocked. On more than one occasion, cashiers are not willing to go out of their way to provide customer service, whether it is price verification or help with coupons. I have been coming to the Safeway for over 20 years, since my childhood. Have things changed? Absolutely. Is it the most well-kept store? No. But I will say that the people who work here genuinely do care, and try their best And I appreciate that. The problem is that I think face the store the most, are really out of their hands, and more of a city/area issue. I think the produce is a good quality, I like that they try to do little random events throughout the day to celebrate their customers, and above all their pharmacy team is the absolute best. My husband has a chronic condition and we have to get a lot of medication all the time, and Jack and his pharmacy team are top-of-the-line. They are very polite, personable, and helpful. I really enjoy shopping here, and I hope they continue to be a great staple of our community. read more

This is the only grocery store for thousands of people in the area and there's a huge lack in staffing & adequate budgeting (?) for this store, it really is sad. I wanted to pick up groceries from Safeway next to my home and checked their hours to see they close at 12 AM. I arrived around 11:45 PM and I said to myself I need to be quick they close at 12:00 AM. I walk up to the first door and it doesn't open. Walk to the next door, also doesn't open. I check the hours on my phone and it says their open... huh??? I see people leaving the store at the doors next to me and I am confused... i double check the hours and it says their open... I decide I'm going to go through the exit door because the store is supposed to be open...I walk in and hear over the intercom the store is closing in 5 minutes bring your purchases to the register... 1) why was the door locked 2) it's not 5 minutes to midnight yet... I pick up what I can quickly get for the evening and go to the register because I I want to eat ... I meet the manager Abigail who rings me out... I ask her to What time they close and she said midnight... I then say the front doors didn't open and she says... "you have to push them..." ?? Unless the power is out I don't try to attempt to get into a grocery store who for the last 40 years of my experience has automatic doors??? Am I wrong? Me and my family go to this location for convenience but that all stops today as we've had too many bad experiences with the quality of food sold here. Me alone, I have brought molded loaves of bread to management while shopping so no one would accidentally purchase and they seemed annoyed and dismissive. My mom has gotten shrimp from the seafood department and when she put it in the pan to cook it smelled horrible because they were spoiled. We bought frozen party wings that were also spoiled. We bought Provolone cheese that was expired and moldy. And lastly today we bought the frozen potato skins and after eating pretty much the entire potato I noticed a green hue between the skin and the potato. When I removed the potato I found mold yet again! We gave this location plenty of chances. The funny part is there are always workers in the way of the shoppers stocking the shelves, so how are they missing all of these bad packages?.. There has also been numerous times where I've felt uncomfortable using self checkout as if anything there is worth stealing..I only started going to self checkout to avoid the rude cashiers. Money spent and gas goes down the drain and customers health is very much compromised! My family and I don't have these problems at any other location.
