Me and my family go to this location for convenience but that all stops today as we've had too many bad experiences with the quality of food sold here. Me alone, I have brought molded loaves of bread to management while shopping so no one would accidentally purchase and they seemed annoyed and dismissive. My mom has gotten shrimp from the seafood department and when she put it in the pan to cook it smelled horrible because they were spoiled. We bought frozen party wings that were also spoiled. We bought Provolone cheese that was expired and moldy. And lastly today we bought the frozen potato skins and after eating pretty much the entire potato I noticed a green hue between the skin and the potato. When I removed the potato I found mold yet again! We gave this location plenty of chances. The funny part is there are always workers in the way of the shoppers stocking the shelves, so how are they missing all of these bad packages?.. There has also been numerous times where I've felt uncomfortable using self checkout as if anything there is worth stealing..I only started going to self checkout to avoid the rude cashiers. Money spent and gas goes down the drain and customers health is very much compromised! My family and I don't have these problems at any other location. Overall 0 out of any number is what I would rate this store. They need like health inspections or something idk. read more

My mother and I went to customer service to use western union services and we were helped by Kathy, one of the cashiers. Right from the start she looked like she didn't want to be there to help us. She was smiling but the way she treated me and my mom was very bad in terms of customer service. I get it that she might've been irritated when I talked to my mom in our native language but I was just trying to explain what Kathy said to my mom so that she could understand. But that really gives no reason to treat a customer like that. Not helpful at all. Not only that, when I buzzed the button for assistance to open the locked cabinets, no one came. After waiting for 15 mins, finally a guy came. This Safeway is understaffed. So understaffed that I see the same cashiers working at Starbucks and the flower department. It is very overcrowded here and the staffs are grumpy. There are only a few staffs that give good customer service. Safeway really needs to step up their game in terms of customer service. read more

As I was walking towards the Pharmacy, there was a puddle of water in the aisle, a broken piece of wood and bent nails in my path. There was a clerk standing by the exit door when a young man ran out the door with a very large container of laundry detergent. This store is dirty and unsafe. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. It is the worst safeway Ive ever seen. Unless you dont mind being there for at least 30 minutes. EVERY DAY of the week the checkout lines are backed up and I've never seen more than 4 lanes open at one time. The checkers barely know how to do their jobs and theres usually no one bagging for them. Most of them are lazy and show no hustle whatsoever, they just take their sweet time, even when theres a huge line. And good luck getting anyone to help you at the customer service desk. The only positive thing i can think of is there are some good weekly sales and everything is usually stocked (except ice cream) And the store is always pretty clean, probably because mopping floors is the limit of mental capacity for most of the employees. read more

This Safeway sucks . The lines are always winding around or down the aisles . It's hit or miss with the employees , most of them are grumpy and it just seems like they hate their jobs ! Not to mention the same employees also run the Starbucks . Which by the way they never have like anything . I've been there 3 different times within a couple month span and they've always "ran out" of white white chocolate mocha or caramel frappe . When they DO have it , it either taste like just hot milk or 95% ice . The employees work SO slow too . We just had a neighborhood meeting and one of the topics was that we are getting a Sprouts in San Marco. That was meet with a huge round of applause equally mixed with how bad this Safeway has become. I only use self checkout and last Sunday while I was checking myself out, a woman who was using a stick to remove items that had fallen in between cracks in the checkout area would not even move for me nor did she acknowledge me in anyway. I do not expect a greeting as no one has ever said hello in the 50-60 times I have checkout there anyways. Furthermore, in December, a price came up wrong and the woman who was flirting with security huff and puffed, swiped her badge and walked back again without saying a word. Despite Safeway having head quarters in the Bay Area, clearly they do not do mystery shops and if they do, there is no interest in customer service. I have about 40 other San Marco residents that feel the same way. Good luck Safeway. Update: Thanks for reaching out Safeway. I don't think that I need to contact you. On behalf of the community, please just change the culture and communicate to employees that we just want to shop in a pleasant environment as it is "home" to us. I would suggest to store leadership to maybe monitor the cameras from time to time and maybe have store leadership from sister stores "shop" each other and provide feedback. Once again I come an hour and a half before the deli closes and ask for fried chicken and they say the same lame excuse that they don't have any defrosted to make. Went to get 2 breakfast burritos and a sandwich, they didnt have half the stuff for the breakfast burrito, but i got em anyway, the lady did not know how to roll a burrito, so she just kinda smooshed it in half and pushed in the sides. They came out about 3 inches long and spilling stuff out when they are normally around 6 inches. Then i ordered a sandwich, full size, she got all the stuff on it except the meat, then didnt like the way the meat looked they had rolled, so she threw it away and then said they dont have any meat because she didnt want to cut more, i said that roast beef was all i wanted, she just said, well we are out, what a waste, she threw away the whole thing, i almost left without getting anything if it didnt take me 45 minutes just to get to this point. I was there for about 40 minutes just to get what I need. The lines were long, but not unbearable. Employees ensured good customer service from the moment I needed help to find certain groceries. There were a couple things I needed but could not find, one I needed active yeast because I wanted to make home made bread for tonight, and I sadly could not find this specific Gerber Animal crackers (Cinnamon flavor), but that's okay as there's always a next time. There were great news tho, which is I finally found the Morning Star Veggie Sausages because for about a good month I could not find them anywhere, including various other Safeways or Target in the Bay Area. I was surprised to find it here since I have been here numerous times and have never seen it, so I guess today was my lucky day! Store seems limited compared to other Safeway's maybe due to being on the smaller side, things are more crammed together. Parking here sucks it's so small and cramped. There's cars coming from every direction. The cars are really never stocked so there might not be any or only a few. Also a lot of the time there are no baskets. I went on a Sunday a the soup area was a mess. Most Safeway's seem to be very put together but sadly this is the worst one. If seems like quality of products is just not there also most of the stuff is not really stocked. The meat is not the best. If seems the small markets have way better. I think this store is under staffed. The list are crazy always not just once in a while. This store is really if you have an emergency and there's no where else to go. This is my 2nd BAD experience already about those 2 girls that work in the flower shop. I want to give those 2 flower shop staff 0 star. I just want to say I am the most patient customer you can ever get, I don't ever make arguments and be rude to customer service associates that test your patience because I do understand being in their shoes as I also work in this field. I myself try to deescalate bad customer experience in line of work. These 2 girls did not even attempt to help me for a simple inquiry. They are quick to answer that they have another customer, which I totally understand but that customer is not there! And I am HERE in front of you! If you are trying to take advantage of any special pricing (club card discounts, etc.), make sure to know what they're supposed to be charging you and check your receipt once you have paid. The Pittsburg, CA store, in particular, seems uniquely bad at getting this right. Today, I went in to the store, receipt in hand, to deal with one such discrepancy, and dealt with someone named Laura (couldn't get a last name, so if that's even her real name, who knows). She told me that I was out of luck because it had been a month (it hadn't) and she couldn't verify the offer that I was referring to (corporate had no such problem). I always love being called a liar and a con man to my face! I had to call corporate to get my money back! There are two other Safeways within about 10-15 minutes from there. Absolutely the worst customer service EVER!!!!! I went to the customer service counter to enquire about a product I could not find on the shelves. I was hoping to find out if they actually carried the product and it was just out of stock for some reason. After ringing the bell and waiting for about 5 minutes a young woman in a Safeway top asked how she could help. She told me I could find the product on aisle 4. When I explained I couldn't find it and wanted to know if the actually carried the item, she walked away, spoke to another person and then they both disappeared in opposite directions. No explanation to me, just disappeared. I waited for another few minutes and left. The store would get a lesser review rating if it was possible. After 25 years of shopping at that store, they just lost another loyal customer. read more
