Woo, this Safeway is big! it's also well stocked, clean and has a gas station. I prefer this store to the one in Dublin for the selection. Typically, it has the items I'm looking for and it's a quick in or out without terrible lines. Maybe I like this store because I tend to come in the middle of the day doing errands. If you area trying to come here after work I could see the traffic on Bernal being bad. read more

This place is massive because it's one of the newer Safeway stores. I wasn't hugely impressed with the produce selection (some of it looked a bit older than I like), but I did like some of the deals to be had (locally grown bellpeppers in a variety of colors - 10 for $10). In and out with my $20 worth of groceries in 10 minutes. Parking is a breeze in the huge adjacent lot, but be on the look out for unaware pedestrians. read more

We do drop in to this store from time to time, as we are on the way home from work. We do enjoy how large this store is and how many items they have, of course the deli and sushi bar is great to have lunch or find something to take home. We do use their ads to our advantages, but for the most part we do enjoy coming to this Safeway's store. The friendly people and management staff that work here are all fantastic. I know I have seen Assistance and Store managers drop what they are doing to help the cashiers and fill shelves throughout the days. The only reason I am not giving this Safeway's a 5 star rating, is due to the cost of some of the items, but overall this is well worth the trip. read more

My rating is based on two particular problems. Despite numerous checkout stands, generally about 25% are 'manned'. This is really discouraging on weekends and holidays when more customers visit. The staff is efficient and cordial when we finally are served but this is not a good use of anyone's time. The second feature which has been really bothersome is the loading of shelves. I had found myself having to actually step up on a shelf to reach the cans I needed. The last time it was in the Asian food isle and I need water chestnuts. They were shelved on the highest shelf and stacked probably six to eight cans high. Not fun or safe. Again, staff is good but it would be appropriate to look closer to customer needs. read more

I like this store. The staff are attentive, like look you in the eyes; yes I have a pulse attentive. The majority of the time I find what I came in for (some exceptions here.) Parking is easy, even when it's during peak business hours. Bakery churns out fresh bread daily- although sometimes you will be out of luck if you came in around dinner time to pick up that roll of french bread. Get there early and you'll have no problems. Nice spice selection- and a random, "oh snap, I forgot to buy _____." (Insert most popular kitchen gear here. ) which has saved me more than once from epic cooking disaster. The one return I've had was handled fine. Coconut milk was in a starling gelled state. I exchanged them for new cans. Dear Safeway Corp. - I know you had good intentions of helping the deaf through the self check out stands. But I would really appreciate the option to modify the volume of the pseudo Siri. My ears and sanity will thank you. The entire reason I started writing this review was to give credit where it's due: I was half awake when I came this morning to procure food for my grumbling belly. Somehow, despite the fact that I've entered my information on the key pad 83936592 times- I managed to goof it up and not get my prized Safeway savings. But the clerk helping me caught it and gave me a refund for the difference. No fuss, no- "let's bring over a manager." Just hey, here's some money back and, "have a nice day." Retail win. I feel like every time I go to the deli area, something goes wrong or I need to correct an employee on a price. Sometimes it's very difficult to explain what I want because the employee may not speak the best of English too. They had to ask me 3 times how much an entree of chicken and a side of rice is, uhhh you're the worker you should know!! Then they ended up trying to charge me for 2 entrees, but luckily the lady at the self check out was understanding and she took off one of them. This process took about 20 minutes when it should've taken maybe 5. Train your employees thoroughly before you throw em out there Safeway! read more

This Safeway is nice and clean and very well organized and has large selection of items. The reason why I give this location a low rating is because of their staff. Multiple times I have asked for assistance and have gotten rude attitudes and nasty looks making it super uncomfortable. Few of the times from a man in the deli who i suppose was a manager and I asked if they could make a large sandwich which he proceeded to give me attitude for and another time making it wrong like a completely wrong sandwich. I dont feel like I ask for help too much at the grocery store and the times I have I did not like the way the staff seemed to be annoyed when I asked for help I live closer to this one but will drive the extra time to visit the on valley to avoid rude staff. read more

This is for the bakery team. Sandra was the main woman to help us achieve an elegant cake we needed for my moms birthday. A few of the ready cakes had an issue with the fruit on them. When we brought it to their attention, Sandra went literally out of her way to make us a phenomenal cake at the last second. We were so happy with the outcome that I needed to write my appreciation. Nice convenient Safeway location right off I-680 near the Alameda County Fairgrounds. There's also a Safeway Gas Station nearby for your convenience. Large store overall with your usual groceries and departments, and self-checkout lanes are good. There's also a Starbucks kiosk inside the store, which is becoming standard for most Safeway locations nowadays. Parking is generally okay, but I wonder what it'll be like once the adjacent apartments and housing right next door is completed. read more

The deli sandwich counter is good. The bread and produce looked very fresh today. I would like them to get rid of the 700 choice coke fountain drink machine though. It is a real pain. 1. The machines touch screen inteface does not pick up your hand gestures every time. 2. Some of the flavors don't taste quite right for example Cherry Powerade and Grape Powerade. 3. You can only serve one person at a time with this machine. With the old machines you could easily get two or three people pouring their drinks, given that people are pouring different flavors. read more

Finding myself at a new Safeway for my weekly grocery trip, I wandered around attempting to find things on my shopping list. This new Safeway is spacious and clean. Most, not all, but most employees are incredibly friendly. There was a girl (whom I wished I had asked her name because she was awesome) who helped me find everything I needed. However there were a couple of employees who were anything but helpful. Just a shrug and "I think it's that way and if it isn't then we don't have it." Uh maybe they need more training on customer service. All in all an ok Safeway, but I wouldn't go out of my way to shop at this particular location. read more

But I generally try to avoid this place due to the price tags on stuff, which again is like 7-11. In short, this is my emergency place. My Dodge Charger went a little over one of the curbs in front of a parking space, and when I reversed - the whole front end came off. I was so upset. The girl collecting grocery carts saw it happen and came over to me and asked if I was going to have a ride home and seemed really concerned. She left to go back inside and 5 minutes later came out with a bottle of water and a Reese's peanut butter cup because she felt bad for my situation. This put a big smile on my face until the tow driver came. So nice! I wish I'd gotten her name. Will plan on forwarding that kindness on to someone else who is having a bad day. :-) read more

The manager was very rude to my husband. He didn't gave him 2 minutes to pick up something from a closed shelf. I understand that we are all in a hurry and in covid times they have limited personnel, but it wasn't 2 min really and late at night when the store is basically empty. He didn't give him time to check with me for something that mattered to me. He just closed it and walked away. Sadly I cannot imagine he would do something like that to white customers. This is probably one of the worst Safeway bakeries I have ever encountered. My toddler accompanied me to order his 4th birthday cake and he was very excited to get a cars cake for his party. We ordered the tres leches flavor well in advance as our entire family and friends love that flavor. When I went to pick the order (on the day of the party), they missed to keep the cake ready and said they couldn't find the order even though I had the proof of order! They ruined the entire experience as we had to settle with some random cake that was already pre-made. This cake tasted terrible and no-one really enjoyed it! This Safeway is where I do most of my grocery shopping. Even though I moved to Livermore a year ago from Pleasanton, I still go to this location simply because I like it more than the others. Overall, it's a perfectly good place to shop, and I get most of what I need here. However, I am a bit leery of the fresh fish after buying a prepared filet and cooking it a day later--only to find out it was SPOILED. But in the grand scheme of things, this is not that important. What's more important to me is customer service, and yesterday I had the good fortune to be in Kevin's checkout line. Boy, was this guy friendly!! He literally greeted each and every person in the line with a genuine kindness and sunny outlook, even if they did not respond. And he didn't miss a beat. It's so rare these days to get this kind of positive attention anywhere, especially in a setting where workers are trying to do their job quickly. Kevin sets an example for all who work at Safeway. This is my Safeway. Even though I live in Hayward I wouldn't go to any other. I usually do my groceries in Whole Foods but that place is pretty pricey. So when I'm on a budget the only place I shop is here. They have great selection of Organic foods. From milk to bread to cereal. It's hard to find a Safeway like this. This is one of the nicest, cleanest and organized Safeway's I had ever been to. The gas station attendants are always so friendly and helpful. Nice store, and I do shop here all the time, but I'm getting SUPER frustrated by the number of items I'm constantly needing to return! I get home from shopping and realize items are expired - salad dressing, yogurt, pizza dough (just to name a few of the items I've returned in the past)....and not to mention - molded strawberries and tomatoes two days after buying them! I understand things happen, but its come to the point where I'm returning things every couple weeks. Not a fun task to do with a 3 year old and 5 month old! Two of my best friends live in the area so we come to this Safeway quite often when we're visiting. We've picked everything up from alcohol, flowers, gift cards, food and the like. There used to be a small selection of organic fruit and veggies but I've noticed their selection has improved over the years. Stopped to get gas after being in heavy traffic and terrible weather for over four hours, and we also wanted to use the restroom tonight (Sunday October 24, 2021 at roughly 8:10pm) and there was a sign up saying the restroom was closed for cleaning. I explained to the attendant that I was having lady problems (you would think another woman would understand, especially since there weren't any other bathrooms nearby and when you are bleeding you don't really have time to look around for another bathroom ya know?) and she simply said "the bathroom he have bleach" so I said "that's fine, can I go in?" And she said "no he have bleach" so then I had to raise my voice and say "I'm bleeding and I need the bathroom" to which she said "fine go ahead". When I went in it was filthy, complete with toilet paper stuck the the toilet seat, trash in the garbage can, paper towel stuck to the sink and no wet spots of "bleach" anywhere so I have no idea what she thought she bleached. Not sure why she had the bathroom closed. At first I thought maybe she precleaned so she wouldn't have to do it at the end of her shift, but like I said it wasn't clean, so that wouldn't make sense. She was extremely rude to my husband and daughter who used the bathroom and bought some scratchers too. This is where we stop whenever we road trip this way and we always rely on being able yo take care of gas and bathroom at this location. First of all, I am a Raleys girl. They are on the way home from work, they have an amazing staff, and I love their health section. I have tried this Safeway a couple times before, but they never have what I want, I didn't like their produce, and it just didn't feel like Raleys. Raleys makes you feel like family, chatting with you about your weekend plans or the yummy things you bought to eat. However. Today I was on a time crunch. I needed to get some sweet potatoes cut and in the dehydrator by 6pm so they would be done by the time I leave for work tomorrow; and I can only make them tonight because I'm going on a trip and these are my dogs' treats. I was coming from the gym today, and usually I will go out of my way to go to Raleys. But I just didn't have the time tonight, so I came to Safeway. When I got home, one of my sweet potatoes was not in my bag. I checked the car twice, checked my gym bag, checked my receipt and I was charged for two. But no time to go back. It was already after 6pm. I prepared the dogs' dinner, trying to figure out what to do. So much to take care of tonight...I decided it won't hurt to call them and ask them to bring it. If they say no, I guess my dogs won't have enough treats; not the worst thing. So I called, thinking they would say no and I would just be mad. But I told the manager what happened, and her immediate response was genuinely sorry that happened, and would I like to come get it now or at a later time? I said I wouldn't normally ask, but explained why I was hoping someone might drop it by asap. After a split second of thinking she asked where I lived and said she could leave in about ten minutes. She was here in less than 15 minutes I think. I had one sweet potato cut up and in the dehydrator by then, and was only about five minutes behind schedule because she agreed to make it right in a way that I needed. I am so impressed!! She was super friendly and didn't seem annoyed at all. The girl who forgot the potato felt so bad and had offered to take it, but the manager said not to worry, that she would do it. I am not switching from Raleys, but I am no longer going out of my way to avoid this place either, only because with a manager like that, they deserve my business, in a pinch. (I liked their produce much better today too! I spent so much time selecting just the right shape potatoes to cut for dehydration, I am so glad she brought the exact one I had selected.) read more

I have been hosed multiple times on their 'club card prices'....It will tell you one thing, and then charge you another... 2 days in a row they tried to come up a couple bucks here and there... This store supposedly carries a variety of special diet foods, specialty milks and yogurts, but any time I stop by (weekend afternoons, that is, forget weekends!) they are always out of stock on 75% of the stuff on my list. The standard response is that we only get deliveries certain days of the week and run out of them pretty quickly. Would you like a rain check? (Are you kidding me???) Even after making multiple trips a week, I'm unable to stock up on my groceries. Shouldn't the store manager be ordering more quantities and stocking up if there are always frustrated customers returning home empty handed? Food for thought. read more

This Safeway location is my least favorite due to poor customer service + unfriendly + dishonest!! I always tell myself to stay away from this location because after today - I HATE IT!! 1) I happened to be shopping in the yogurt aisle trying to remember what flavor my kid wanted when this female customer walked by me. From her sweater pocket, came a bulk of paper money flying out because she was walking very fast as I heard her money hit the ground like splat, corner of my eye. When I was about to tell the female customer, "Hey Ma'am, you dropped something," the inventory guy stocking yogurt this morning between 9 am to 9:25 am witnessed too decided to push his cart as he walked passed me, picked up the cash which I thought, "Great - he's being honest and he'll return the money to the female customer, right?" Wrong. He immediately pockets the cash and looks at me like nothing happened. My jaw literally dropped and I just starred at him in disbelief. Not knowing what kind of situation this female customer was in, I felt terrible for her. Not everyone has money to spare in a difficult economy with rising prices of groceries these days. 2) I walked to the only open check out lane, which I saw the female cashier, but no customer. I briefly waited when the cashier asked me to go down to the self check out lane, which she said, "This can take longer because the customer went to go grab something they forgot." Well, in these kind of situations, the cashier should inform the customer that she'll cancel because it's just not right for the next customer to wait because you simply forgot to grab something. I forgot something before, but I always grabbed it during the next shopping trip, ... at least I didn't hold the line for other people. It's rude, disrespectful, I don't do it to other people so why be selfish yourself and do it to me?? 3) I walked over to the self checkout lanes praying - Leslie - wasn't working her shift today, but wait and behold she was and I knew my morning was going to be pretty bad!! Couple of years ago, I shopped here and she overcharged me on yogurt + soup cans that were on sale at $1.00 each. Instead of my groceries coming out to $30.00, instead came out to $60.00!! Since then, she hated me because I asked for a simple refund SHE had to personally take care of since she was the only cashier working at the time. This morning, I make it to a self check out lane, I placed all of my stuff on the weight scale thing when I discovered my machine needed more receipt paper roll so I stood behind this guy customer purchasing a bottle of wine. Leslie clearly saw me, but instead she looked over my shoulders and told another female customer that she'll be right there to help her, didn't acknowledge me, which I knew then she still hates me!! Leslie refusing to help me, I simply moved all of my stuff to another self checkout machine that was actually working trying to understand why Leslie would treat me so badly even if our first incident took place many years ago!! Leslie should be cleaning toilets or checking inventory back of the store, away from the customer IF she can't handle the most basic customer service. She could have pretended to like me and helped me, but instead she chose to ignore me and help the next customer after me. Next time, IF I'm there, I will make a formal complaint to your store manager because I left very upset and quite frankly, Leslie, you shouldn't be allowed to work around the customers IF you're going to simply be a bully. read more
