I have been going to this Safeway for many years as I am a Prunedale local. The employees who have been there for many years are always sweet and I love talking with them. Always a good experience with them. Now, on the other hand, the younger employees there are not polite nor do they know how to bag groceries. I am finding that its worse on the weekends. I'm sure it's because the senior employees have weekends off as they should. Today, Sunday, the cashier and bagger were not polite at all. It was like I was bothering them. I always say thank you as I leave but with no acknowledgement from them. This has happened to me too many times in the past with a few of them. I got out to my truck to load the grocery bags and found that my eggs were at the bottom of the bag with a bag of Cuties, a bunch of bananas, a jar of mayo and a bottle of ranch dressing. Are you kidding me?? I have in the past found my bread at the bottom of a bag. They need to do better. I shouldn't have to worry about what day is a better day to go shopping when I need it. A box of croissants for 5.99 has 8 tiny half a palm croissants, when before they used to be much bigger. Their cake slices are half what they were 6 months ago and they're also the same price. Came here to satisfy a sweet tooth. The availability was hit and miss. Random cakes with bread labels. No Martinelli Cider. Limited craft beer. If you want a strawberry cheesecake get ready for fork over $16.99. If you want a chocolate pie creme then it'll be $12.99. Either way, you'll regret the calories and spend. We moved here over 4 years ago from another state - and while I was glad to have a grocery store 5 minutes from home - it really was grungy at the time compared to the stores we frequented in Utah. It just seemed like a non-pleasant place with small aisles and food islands to run into everywhere. I am more used to wide aisles. I cannot imagine being disabled and shopping there. They need to do better to keep up with waning stock and supplies. All that said - there has been improvement in those 4 years....maybe I'm just more accepting. It IS better than Grocery Outlet and in some ways Walmart grocery. I DO love the digital coupons you can load up on your rewards account - that is brilliant. read more

I used to live in this town and loved having this store here. We are far from town, and this place carries everything I could possibly want. So convenient. I especially love the bakery and the deli. The fried chicken is delicious. The mashed potatoes are even delicious. And those wonderful desserts in the bakery are divine. The produce is always fresh. The fish and meats are wonderful. We go to this safeway often and overall, I think the deli is top notch. The fried chicken, grilled chicken, macaroni salad, potato salad, and other sides are really good. Service is up there too aside from one or two employees. Most are very hardworking, friendly and helpful. Recently, we tried their app where we could order groceries, safeway staff does the shopping and we just go there to pick up our order. It was very convenient. What's more impressive was the quality of items we had. The grapes, apples, cucumbers, roast beef and everything were super fresh! They do substitute for other items if they are sold out of your selection, so if you do not prefer this, select 'no substitutions'. I always enjoy coming here to get my groceries as I know they will be fresh. I feel that they try hard for their customers. The starbucks in the store is also a big bonus. read more

I ordered a shrimp tray On 12-22 to pick up 12-24 at 11am. when I went to pick up it wasn't made and the fellow who took my order was at lunch. However, Travis in the meat dept was all smiles helping multiple people. i told him what I ordered he gladly prepared the tray right away. Christmas Eve at Safeway was crazy but it didn't bother Travis. Kudos to you Travis. You are a hard worker with the best attitude I've seen in quite some time. Safeway you are very lucky. read more

Don't bother going here for your cakes.. They cancel on you that same day. They would say "cake decorator called out sick." When I went inside that same day picked up a random cake and saw someone back there decorating cakes. Lol Called 3 days ahead to get a cake done and apparently it was to late to order one. No change at this safeway after my first review 3 years ago. The meat dept still lacks product and the aisle shelfs are often sparse. Two days before Christmas my future son-in-law asked if we could get several flower arrangements for a banquet in a few hours in the Bay Area. We went to the Safeway in Prunedale, CA and requested assistance from the Flora staff, Belen and Jordyn. Since we were not sure exactly what we wanted, they made very helpful suggestions to work us through to several beautiful flower arrangements in a very speedy fashion. They were really super. I absolutely recommend the Safeway I feel very comfortable and confident that I will find what I need here in the store. I've purchased several cakes from the bakery department from birthday cakes to anniversary cakes to Mother's Day cakes - all custom made pretty much with great flavors! There is a downfall to the store and what it is is the balloons. The balloons always tend to fly off the strings after leaving. Once my daughter was carrying a pretty large size balloon around the store as we were shopping and it just flew off to the top. so whoever is tying the balloons are not double knotting them. they're only tying them once and the balloons here are pretty pricey. I always get one for my daughter when we do our grocery shopping and more than once, more than twice has a balloon flew away due to not being properly tied. I have made a complaint about this a few times in person. But other than that the store is great! read more

Had a really nice experience at Safeway today. I watched the meat/fish department guy help a family waiting near me, and he was so helpful and friendly to them. When it was my turn he was very kind and helpful with me. As I walked away another customer asked him for help finding a specific type of bottled water (not his department), and he happily offered to help her. It states that this location is open 24/7! Came to the store at 3:40am on Monday and a worker said they are closed. She couldn't even come close to the door to tell me she just hand gestured 4 and turned her back. There is something wrong with this Safeway. The food never lasts long enough so I am not every sure why they put dates on anything. The lay out is strange. I couldn't find the condiments aisle for the life of me...they never have boneless chicken thighs. The staff is friendly except for one guy, but Inam not sure he works there anymore. Been using this store for years. Some employees really make you feel your welcome. Others, not so much. With the new discount grocery opening in a few months they need to step it up a notch. If I'm in that store for over 10 minutes I start to feel like I'm in field of ragweed, it an allergic reaction to something in that store. If you look at the reviews you'll notice only older white people have good things to say about this place. The manager there is rude and racist or quick to set stereotypes whatever you want to call it. I shop there at least twice a week for cat food and other items and when the manager is there he always gives me the dirtiest looks and never greets me in any way. Not even a simple hello, but he can be looking at me all he wants how's that not going to make anyone uncomfortable. I stopped here recently to buy some snacks. Happy to see they have a formal chip/snack isle and their produce section looked fresh and tasty. I bought some chips and soda and was on my way. I'm sitting here at 9:54pm having paid EXTRA to have my food delivered between 5 and 7 PM. WHERE IS MY DAMN FOOD, SAFEWAY? This is the third screwup. Few months ago they gave me a 30 pack of beer instead of a 12 pack. Before that they gave me two boxes of Triscuits that I didn't order. I thought I was getting away from their horrible service by not entering the store. Delivery is even worse. I'm done. Safest way to shop is to avoid, "Safeway". From now on I'll just drive over to grocery outlet. (Edit) BS DAWN! I went to "Safe" way delivery website and try to start a chat. it said: "sorry you are behind 10 people"... I waited for 20 minutes and NOTHING. I went back to the chat three times and waited in vain! So I had to call corporate. Corporate said they would send a message to the store to let me know something. 027 637 54 Is the tracking number for my order. I haven't heard anything. So even corporate doesn't care. Give you another chance? based on "what" exactly? If I hadn't called corporate, your store would never have told me, till this very second -what's going on with my order!!!! and I still don't know anyway. I had to stay home from work. I was supposed to be there at 8:30! Now I lose a days pay! meanwhile my family doesn't have anything to eat! "Second chance", you say... (Edit) So I called Safeway and it turns out their corporate lied to me and said my order was never assembled. Even though I got a text message saying it had been and was scheduled for delivery. A Safeway employee found my order and said they never came to pick it up. Their COVID19 adjusted hours for the elderly and vulnerable groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays is not respected or implemented at all. In addition, nobody in the store seemed to care at all whatsoever about social distancing. They Never have enough staff in the deli, and when there is more than 1 person working, they are making sandwiches or working in the back. Get a bell for goodness sake. I'm not sure if this store has forgotten they were bought by Albertson's/Lucky who have the "3s a crowd" policy, the banners do still hang about the over crowded lines to checkout. Safeway Vierra Canyon, I have shopped here on and off for 20 plus years. I used to work for the chain. I know the inside story. Safeway bought the chain I was working for, we were killing them back in the day...Safeway and their store managers control the labor for that particular store. The Managers bonus is based on profit. So if you run tight labor, and get the job done without complaints. You get a bonus. Because they do not pay that well. These Managers have worked their way up the ladder through some hard work and being a yes man. Safeway owns some of the property and stores they are located in. It is a real estate company also. It is almost impossible to get full time. Most part timers quit after a while. It is good to have a lot part timers to get flexibility for scheduling. Safeway buys fields of produce and stores it in Sacramento. They buy large quantity's of everything so they get it very cheap, they do the transportation to the stores. It is a very high profit company. Their prices are criminally high and they blame it on the union labor. It is not true. In the past 35 years Safeway has been buying out the competition so they can control market pricing. $$$$ and they have accomplished that. Until Walmart came to town. Walmart sells shelf space and some isles are stocked by venders. These venders rent shelf space from Walmart. No out of pocket cost to Walmart. They are non union. With this new business concept, I bet they are killing Safeway. And Safeway blames it on the union labor. As their proprieties that their stores are on increase in value....... Bottom line, the Vierra Canyon Store is small, no selection. Not enough checkers. I only go there for one or two things. Because their prices are too high and I don't mean pennies difference from the competition. it is major. read more

Floral Department is AWFUL!! I ordered ( 5 days in advance) wristlet coursages ....I was told that I could choose from red, white,or pink roses, and that each coursage would be made of 3 roses and the ribbon, of the color of my choice! I prepaid, so it would be an easy pick up. Prom day is here, and I had a friend pick them up for me. She called, saying that she was told that they had run out of silver ribbon, so they used white instead, and wanted to know if that was ok. Given the fact that we didn't have any other choice, she said yes, but she'd like a discounted price. They were quick to offer a refund, and I thought that was a nice gesture.....until she got to the house with the flowers! They were the most PATHETIC things I had ever seen in my life!! ONE RED ROSE ON THE ENTIRE THING!!' AND IT LOOKED LIKE THEY RAN TO CVS TO GET BRACELETS TO TIE THEM ONTO. The little bracelet did NOTHING to support the one little rose that dangled from it. And they tried to pass these off as $20 wrist coursages?! Now, the kids are attending and having photos with flowers that I could have tied onto a stretchy bracelet myself!! Massive Mosh Pit at the self check out. I thought I'd have to be carried out above peoples heads to escape. No counting how many customers entering. There must have been 100 people in safeway at 530 pm today The only attempt at social distancing is in the 8 deep check out lines, so I go to the self check out, looks quicker. Big Mistake! 2-4 people at each self check out. Making it like 15 people in that small area. I was trapped trying to leave. Trapped by people and carts. One teenage employee passing out 10 cent easy-rip. I prayed for her really. Please don't get corona girl , that job ain't worth it. No sanitizer no where. This is a review of the so called master decorators at the bakery. First we got an awesome two tier birthday cake at another Safeway, so we felt good ordering from here, but we were sorely mistaken. I almost feel sorry writing this, because the person who made the cake was probably forced to do it by the store, there is know way they could be this incompetent. Here is how bad the cake was; the icing barely covered the cake it was dirty iced at best, we asked that Happy Birthday be written on the side, so they wrote it on a piece of acetate and stuck it to the side of the cake, when asked about it, the the bakery lead simply stated they didn't have the skill to write on the cake and did this instead, and yes the writing itself looked like crap. All they offered to do was get a manger, but since they couldn't fix it what was the point. They didn't take the plastic liners off the cake topping figurines before putting them on, they just stuck them on the cake, so we couldn't take them off without making it look worse. They used whipcream icing instead of buttercream and it started melting, and last but not least they left the piece of cardboard between the tiers, we discovered this when cutting the cake. I get this is a grocery store cake, but really how incompetent do you have to be to put something like this out. And the bakery lead was a worthless in regards to customer service, she simply stated they couldn't fix it, and only when pressed acknowledged they didn't have a skilled decorator, and then could only respond that she would get me a manager, as if that would fix the cake. I have worked customer service, own it if your team messes up, but this person is the worse type of employee, incompetent in their job (letting a cake like this go out) and incompetent as leader not taking responsibility for your teammor department. Don't order a cake or anything from the bakery at the Prunedale Safeway, the incompetent customer service and worse than amateur product will only make you feel dumb for giving them you business. However, the Safeway Bakery on Del Paso in Sacramento is absolutely awesome. read more
