I wont dock any kudos on this store due to location because of the neighborhood. Yes, its not the best area, but its not in the ghetto either. Its still a business and is ran productively. Nearby for convenience is a Gamestop, a few restaurants, a smoke shop and a nail salon. The store is clean and the employees are friendly and often times helpful. The floral dept has variety and many pre arranged items. I, personally have never had issues with any department except for check out. Eight out of ten times, there is only a couple of registers open, and there are several people waiting. Unfortunately they don't have self check outs anymore due to software compatibility from what i read, but they did add two express lanes. read more

No thank you, I'll pass and go across the street to Fred Meyer. Dirty and dark store, kinda sketch especially for the area it is in. Tons of cash registers, usually only one or two open, so expect long lines. The staff isn't very friendly, if you can even find anyone. It is hard to maneuver through the store; lots of random carts in the aisles, displays in the way... Even the parking lot is hard to get into with all the one way streets surrounding it. Went in at 10:00 pm on a Sundat to get something to eat and drink. Figured I would maybe find something on the hot table that was packaged from the Asian leftovers. Found something and grabbed a soda and proceeded to the checkout. They had two cashiers and both had very large lines. The lines were long enough I reruned the items where I got them and left without purchasing anything. It's kind of a shady location, this area unfortunately has gone down hill the last 5 years. First, let me say that I understand 9AM is not exactly peak shopping hour. But that's when I shop. I usually shop at the Fred Meyer across the street. What possessed me to try out the Safeway this morning, I don't even know. I think I went there for gas. But the gas station was roped off anyway so I didn't even get that. This safeway opens at 5AM. I arrived there close to 9AM. I found that 80% of the aisles were still being restocked, the bakery had only 3 loaves of bread ready, no bagels, and about 6 donuts. I've also never seen a Safeway so bereft of generics. I saw like 3. There was only one checkout aisle open, and the poor cashier on that aisle was also monitoring the self check-out. I'm NEVER going to this Safeway again. I spent WAY more money than I would have buying the same items at the Fred Meyer across the street, and the Fred Meyer opens at 7AM and from the moment they open their doors they have EVERYTHING stocked, bakery and all, so there is absolutely no excuse for this Safeway to still be baking and restocking 4 hours after opening. read more

I concur with Darren D's assessment. Although, I am also very slightly sentimentally attached to this one, because it is so clearly nicer than the neighborhood Safeway I use in DC. There's more produce, more food, and it's cleaner with fewer lines. But that's really just DC's fault. I also love the thunder sounds when the water spray starts in the vegetables section, hehee. Employees are always helpful when you make eye contact and they ask if you need anything and you are looking for something. Note for Thanksgiving: no wild rice. Gotta go to Thriftway for that one.. As per usual, there's a Starbucks inside, and it's near a Gamestop, some Teriyaki place, and an overpriced office supplies/mailing facility. read more

Customer service is like Walmarts---well below par. The lines are always long, the store layout is poor. This is a pretty Ghetto store--location is inconveniently located between two one-way roads... This is the neighborhood grocery store that has been around as long as I've lived in the area. They used to be 24 hours but now they closed from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. which is okay with me but sometimes it creates a problem when I need something at an odd hour of the night. The seafood selection is pretty small and the meat quality is no better than any other subpar grocery store out there. The prices are somewhat decent but you could typically find any and everything that you need for your everyday lunch dinner breakfast needs. My biggest gripe of this place is they seem to be always short-staffed no matter what time of day or night. Most of the patrons that come here get pretty upset that the lines are that long, I know the cashiers are doing the best that they can but there are a few of them that have no business being up there. I do like going there still due to sheer convenience, and the regular employees that have been there forever and then some and seem to always be there are excellent at what they do. read more

I basically only go here to buy gas during my lunch break, but I have been into the store a few times and it is a lot better than most Safeways I have visited. It's clean and organized, which makes it super easy to find what you are looking for. Lines are short and the employees are pretty darn friendly - even as early as 7:15am - which makes for a good experience. They have a pretty decent floral selection, which has come in handy a couple of times. The shelves are well-stocked and I've always come away with what I went in for. read more

There are some of those who are kind, but most of them will have conversations about their personal life, talking over customers, as if they're in the break room. Awful customer service. I had to dip in and buy some sandwiches for lunch. It was a rainy Saturday and the Deli counter was a bit busy so I went to the bathroom and it was disgusting. NO towels to dry your hands with and I cannot fathom what the Deli employees use to keep clean. It is obvious this is not in the nicer part of Renton but my God you are serving food here! The help struggles with the English language but tries to be helpful with food orders. I won't return even though the food was good since I don't want to become sick. The store was dirty. read more

First time on a Safeway store. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the service. We purchased some items and needed to sign up for the rewards card thing to get the discount. It took us almost an hour to sign up for the said card! And all the while, we were being bounced back and forth between several associates, as if they are not sure what to do. The total time it took to process the card was less than five minutes, after the long wait. That's why I cannot understand why they had to make us wait for almost an hour. read more

Every time I come in I swear it takes me longer to checkout than it does to shop. Seriously no matter what time i come in the cashiers are chatting and seem to bag as slow as physically possible. It's extremely frustrating the lines for Express lanes are even between 4-8 customers long. The whole point of a express lane is to be on and out quickly. I went to this store today and all but one of the four handicap scooters worked and that one's battery was dead! I asked when they'd have them repair and was told they may not. I was told they were a customer courtesy Safeway may not continue. I been going for over 30 years and have seen many changes but this one is lousy! Clean the men's room! It is disgusting. It stinks. And it's the kind of stink that has permeated the facility (not a "one person" stink). Paper towel is all over the floor. But neither paper towel holders work. It's too bad that employees that use that restroom prepare food in the deli. Average Safeway in a below average neighborhood. Be careful at night as lots of transients are near by. They rats are also plentiful in the summer, but they retreat in the winter. The produce inside is usually unimpressive, which is par for the course at your average grocery. This location does have a gas station, and they sell your typical junk food aplenty. Generally I am stocking up here because I'm too lazy to cook something. The bus is close by from several routes so you can get the hell away as quickly as possible. read more

11/25/13-- 200 S 3rd St Renton, WA. My experience at this Safeway was horrible. I planned to purchase 23 bottles of the 7upTen 2 litters to donate to the food banks. While standing in line for checkout, the cashier Maryori stared me down because she saw that I had coupons in my hands, a lot of them. When I reached my time of checkout, Maryori had a bad attitude about having to scan my manufacturer coupons. I had 23 coupons to discount 23 of the 2 litters that I planned on purchasing. Maryori stopped on the 19th coupon because her machine would not allow her to input anymore coupons. I asked her what was wrong, and she handed back the rest of my coupons and said "That's all the coupons that my system can ring up, and that is all I can and am going to do." I asked her why it would not allow her to when it CLEARLY reads, "limit one coupon per item purchase(d)." I said, that is exactly what I am doing I am purchasing 23 bottles of soda and using 23 manufacturer coupons. Maryori then rolls her eyes to the back of her head and says, "Your actually only allowed to use one coupon per item per purchase." Her way of telling me I should have had to stand in line 23 times in order to get my desired savings. and that she was doing me a favor. I told her she was wrong, and that I would like her to show me the store coupon policy and facts on how she would even believe that she was right. She calls her manager over the intercom and as her manager arrives to the front counter, Maryori says right away to her manager, "I can't put in anymore coupons, its only one coupon per item per purchased, tell her the policy." (Yet, she rang up 19 bottles with 19 coupons.) This Cleary states that Maryori has no idea what the company coupon policy is before she even talked about rules. Maryori should not be allowed to speak upon ANY policy or even at that, a coupon policy. (By this time, Maryori does no longer want to say a single word to me) Her manager agreed with her for some odd reason, but had no valid reason or proof to prove that my coupon was not valid. Okay, I am not going to hold up a line to get my point across since I was speaking to two people, one that is supposed to be a cashier, and the other that's supposedly has the title of a manager yet has same knowledge as a cashier. I felt like I was just dealing with two cashiers and no manager! They both have no knowledge whatsoever about their own coupon policy or even know how to read a coupon. I told the Maryori to take off three of the bottles so that I can use the rest of my coupons at some other time. After Maryori had called the manager to the front, I had no other word from her. I told her that she was rude, and she puts on a mean tone, and says, "I am not rude! I just told my manager THANK YOU!" I told her that I don't care about her conversation that she was having with her manager from across my head and that her focus should be on the customer, that's ME! I should not have been treated like a nobody. Maryori continues to tell me that she isn't rude and that she didn't say anything to me. Well, DUH! That's why you're rude! You're going to ignore your customer? She didn't have to say anything; I could read every form of irritation on her face. I told her I was done, I start to walk away, and as I do, she continues and tells me to "have a good day" in a very sarcastic tone, I think by this time, my blood was boiling and I have never been more disgusted from a horrible customer service experience to the point where I turned back and said "shut up already." While she helps the next customer, she still is hollering out "WOW, Yeah ok!" What do you mean "WOW?" are you shocked how rude you were the entire transaction to the point where the customer can't take anymore and has to tell you to shut up already!? That was enough for me. I worked for Safeway 7 years ago, I was a cashier too, and I NEVER would mistreat anyone that way for anything because when I first took the job I knew I was in charge of customer's happiness and ensuring that they would be coming back again! I guess it's not like that now days. Why should I be mistreated just because I use many VALID coupons per checkout? I coupon for a good cause, helping the ones in need at a low price and coupons and discounts help me do that. What is the big fuss?? The store doesn't lose out on money from coupons that customers use. It's the same as cash. Your company is losing more customer and money because of the lack of respect from an employee to a customer. Maryori needs to be fired!, Everything she did right there, would result in losing my business as well as anyone who reads this. I will be sending this to BBB and I will let everyone know of this experience!!!! read more

Hello i have lived In Renton since 1980 and have came to the Safeway. All the time and have watched the store and staff change many times over and not one management staff all the way down to the clerks been rude or unincomadating to me but sometimes would go out of there way to eather help me or a customer with something for dam near 50 years living in Renton and now in December 2018 the night crew are by far best crew the store has ever had and i would like to give a extra big shout out to some of the crew qthat have always stop and say how have i been doing and its not just me its to all the regular customers that come in the store all the time those employees that come up to me are Denice , Chris Shawn and Maria you guys have put a smile on my face. This is my local grocery store! I love the location, it has a gas station, my bank machine is right there, great parking every time! Me and my kids have allot of fun shopping together. My 4 year old knows this as the cookie place because the lady's in the bakery always give her a free cookie! They also will strike up a conversation with us, you get to know people! Thats what I love about this store. The wait at the check out can be a little long sometimes BUT I think its because everyone loves to shop here, and its just another way to get to know your neighbors!! read more

It's a Safeway. I like Safeway, but not this one. I can be guaranteed to wait in line at this Safeway no matter what time I've gone in morning, noon, night, weekend, weekday, or holiday. Without fail there are at *least* 5 people with loaded carts in ANY given line (assuming more than one lane is open), and even more people in the express lane. They perpetually have a minimum of one fewer cashiers than they need. I hate lines so much that back when my husband was in the military I stopped shopping at the commissary on base (which can be so much cheaper than the civilian stores) and started shopping at the local Safeway. When I moved here, I looked forward to shopping at Safeway. However, those who've managed the Renton store since I've lived here appear to have decided to cut costs by cutting jobs. Unfortunately, they have lost my business because I WON'T wait in a mile long line when there's a Fred Meyer's across the street with plenty of cashiers to take my money and get me out of the store. Even if I'm in the Safeway strip mall, I will no longer stop at Safeway. I used to walk in, take a look at the ridiculous lines and walk right back out. In fact, my bank is located in that Safeway and I *still* won't shop there. Am I clear on how ridiculous the lines are? Because, I can keep going. The store itself is great, but you might not want to leave your kid in the car at this one. This store always shows up in local news papers about shootings that happen in parking lots. This is the worst Safeway I have ever had the displeasure of entering. I asked 3 different employees where a item was and the standard answer was " I don't know". This place has 9 checkout lanes, & there is only 1 that is ever open. The manager is on the loud speaker always yelling that the self checkout lanes are open, but those lanes are always out into the middle of the isle, and if I'm a self check my own stuff then I need to be given a cheaper price. There are zero healthy food options in this store, like the good people of Renton don't deserve to eat a healthy meal! Overall Safeway has a strangle hold on the neighborhood because of the lack of options, but I promise you that if the competition were to open near by this place would be empty!!! read more

This Safeway is a bit sketch. I don't buy groceries here, but I do stop at the gas station. The store is so sketch that they have the gas attendant in this locked box and you have to make interactions through a sliding drawer. Definitely just tried to buy 2 things with two customers in front of me also with 2 items. Couldn't figure out why it took so long until we got to the front of the line and noticed the clerk with his phone on the counter. Thought maybe he was just checking it until he went to YouTube, played a video, and propped it up on the counter. He finally acknowledged me and said you don't get me to help you out, I'm on break now. I nodded, looked at him and told him, yup you don't want to miss that video on your phone, thinking he would be feel bad. He looked and said, what else am I supposed to do when it's slow?
