That said, after today's visit, I stand corrected. The exterior is run down and the lighting inside is depressing, but the place is clean, the staff is nice and the pricing is competitive. If this place had a robust meat selection, I think they could give Uwajimaya a run. I didn't find everything I was looking for, but the dry spices and vegetables were exactly what I was after. I didn't see cabbage or celery, but the selection was still more diverse than any other store I've visited. My singular knock was the two guys stocking the store. Both were kind and polite, but they also had radios blasting music. I'm sensitive to sound, so it made it hard for me to focus and I'm sure a couple items I was after I missed, because I couldn't stay in the area where they were stocking merch. Bulk spices tend to last, so it may be a minute before I find my way back here. That said, this will be my go to spice store.

There was a time when I found the pricing more competitive, but they are not sticking you up, just charging more to feed the beast. Inside, I went to produce and found that their cosmic crisp apples looked horrible, so I thought about just leaving and going to the Benson store, where I know they have good produce. But I stayed and moved down my list until had everything else but orange juice and oat milk. I looked and looked around the refrigerated areas and found nothing. I saw an employee and asked her, and she directed me to oatmeal and the bottled juice aisle. I said refrigerated orange juice, and she said they have the frozen stuff. When I said, "You don't have refrigerated orange juice?", she actually slowed her speech to repeat that they have frozen orange juice. It was clear she thought I was an idiot for expecting more. Who doesn't have refrigerated orange juice? I didn't bother asking again about the oat milk. Then I did something I'm not proud of... I left my cart exactly where it was and left the store. I wasted half an hour in there and now I have to go to another grocery store. The closest Fred Meyer to my house was shuttered last year, and it was twice the quality as this one. When you at the produce and weigh you produce it's half of what the scale at the register charges you. Today I bought banana's for "69 cents a point". The scale said they were 1.3 lbs, but the cash register I was charged for 3.4 lbs. I don't know which scale is wrong but one of them is very very wrong. You could say I was about $1.50 a pound which would be very expensive compared to the other scale. I have to wonder if this is done at all the grocery outlets or just this one? I was so happy to see that the peach-colored AND turquoise-colored mini insulated coolers were available (at the entrance)! They're really handy as my niece has been using them to bring her leftover dinner to work for lunch the next day! She said that these mini coolers are a good size! I got some for her father, sister, and mother! Inside, this Trader Joe's was clean, spacious, organized, and well-lit. I got some snacks, greeting cards, and some yellow nectarines! I started looking for the store mascot and asked the cashier if these plushies were the ones. I showed her a photo on my phone, spotted the correct mascot, and took a photo when a female worker approached me and told me that "no photos were allowed in the store". I thought that she was joking until I looked at her facial expression. She was serious. Shucks. Oh, well... it's over. We got our prize (a lollipop) and took a photo outside of the store. We still went back the next day for more snacks and greeting cards because I had a bit more space in my luggage... LOL!

It has not changed too much over the years but the store is quite large. It has a nice selection of all the essentials such as: produce, meat, seafood, milk, and cereal. The employees (when you can find them) are quite knowledgeable and always take you to the item when you can't find it. The parking lot is quite large as the store in in a strip mall. Verdict: I'll go back!
