Let's see if lightning strikes Twice Well it did .Today I went to get my Mom a couple of Bananas . So I stopped at the bakery there was No Chantilly Raspberry cake slices. I wanted my husband to try it . I asked a bakery clerk very nice elderly lady she was packaging some items. I think her name was Chris . I ask her did they have any slices perhaps in the back"! She stopped what she was doing and said " let me check"!with such a bright smile on her face .then she stated " Ma'am is this what you're talking about? I was shocked.!!! What great customer service. I used to frequently be here almost every other day but now not so much. Some items are spread around and not where they should be. Average wait times can be long depending on when you go as well from not being enough people to check out even though staff count can be up. Prices have went up heavily here from what it was and for some items entwine as much as other places. While I can say most of it is kept clean for the most part inside it can be difficult to find someone to check something for you if you need it without going at certain times or seriously looking. Parking can be spotty as well and sometimes heavily packed! It's not a bad place just needs updating and some reworking to make it flow better read more

I go here to buy snacks and stuff, and the deli section is my favorite area because of the potato wedges, but the deli employees are literal cancer. I tried to get some wedges because it was a good day and the cashier after taking their sweet little time serving another person, they straight up ignore me and does something else in their time. Meanwhile I try asking the other employee if I could get my order and SHE IGNORES ME ENTIRELY. but other than that, the ambiance wasn't that bad other than hearing the intercom repeating "2 0 0"over and over again. Since I am currently spending so much time in SL, I have decided to add this Safeway to my grocery shopping route. It is convenient and nearby 3 other businesses that I frequent, thank you. I really only shop the ad items at this location. Thank you for having good advertised products in-stock conditions. Decent size location, see below for departments. Atmosphere - Good size supermarket. Current departments/services - Grocery, Floral, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Deli, Bakery, Propane, Key Machine, Redbox (for the few people still not streaming...), etc. A huge parking lot, but challenging. Ingress and egress are not user friendly. I actually drive to the back of the property to exit sometimes to avoid the bad aggressive drivers. Open 7 days a week from 6am to midnight. Service - Self service. Price - Reasonable. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1915 with your 904 locations in 17 states. In 2015, Albertsons purchased Safeway. read more

Almost all the food I purchased on Sunday before the Niner game was either spoiled, one day from being green, or tasted so "off" I had to return it. I had my sis taste and smell a few of the things I bought, and she agreed, almost everything was "Off"... Regular potato salad from the deli, about 1/2 lb.. spoiled. Primo Taglio salami in the deli, pre packaged. Smelled and tasted like dirty socks. Hot bar ribs in bbq sauce. Dry, and one day from being inedible. Not good. And I think I'm still feeling the effects of eating them. I think they add to the food in the deli that's already old. Like, let's add more potatoes and some fresh mayo to bring this back to life. Note: IT DOESN'T WORK. As for the ribs in the bbq sauce... you can tell the ribs were already old. They over cooked them, added some sauce, and hoped for the best. Really disappointing. This safeway is the one I find myself using most of the time. I gave it 4 stars because occasionally it can be hard to find employees for help, but mostly when i find one they help me. The area isn't the best at certain times of day, but that's not safeway's fault. I usually shop here in the morning with no issues and always find parking in the morning (later in the day its hard!) I went here with my family yesterday. We found what we wanted, but I was happy when we left. The store is too cramped (the layout is poor overall). I almost always feel some level of stress while shopping here. It's too easy for other shoppers to get in the way (it took some time before I could really look at the cake slices). There's just a lack of space in most areas. The shopping carts are smaller than average, but the aisles are so narrow that getting past others is very difficult. Early on, a woman thanked me for moving over (I made sure that my son was not in the way too). At one point, I had to coordinate with a woman. "I'm going here." "I'm going there." That kind of thing. (My cart lightly banged into something because of the lack of room.) I want to make it clear that the store was NOT that busy (in the main area, counting an Express Checkout lane, I only saw 2 cashiers). Holiday traffic wasn't the issue yesterday. The produce area is fairly open. That's it. Billy was our cashier. He works hard and has a unique personality. The employee at Guest Services was annoyed. She told a coworker to tell the deli department to answer their phone. The selection of greeting cards isn't what it used to be, but the selection of ice cream and pizza is wider than what other stores in the area offer. The selection of bread and deli items is also strong. (They could be better, but it's nice that donuts are often available.) The bakery department is normally solid (the situation was quickly rectified, but a cake order that we placed about a year ago wasn't initially fulfilled because the employee was new and in over his head). Security is more visible here now. A few months ago, the nearby Lucky hired some security guards too. The parking lot is kind of tight. When my wife was backing up, a jerk sped up and drove around us. Thankfully, someone getting out of their car was not really in danger of getting hit. We only go here when we have to. I find that many grocery stores don't have the best reviews but what I can say is I haven't had a negative experience with this location. This Safeway is located within the Greenhouse Marketplace, right off 880 freeway and before the 238 interchange. It's convenient to complete your shopping needs. This store is relatively well-stocked and clean. The bakery section has a great display of their desserts and pre-made cakes to choose from. The aisles are a bit narrow; however, you should be able to locate items you need fairly easily. There is a Starbucks located inside for your quick pick-me up! If you're looking for flowers, they carry several colorful arrays of bouquets, balloons, and potted plants. This store offers both self check-out stalls and staff check-out counters. As you shop, consider utilizing your Safeway app (or download if you don't have it) to add items with deals to save a little extra money before checking out and shop for your Saturday Sampler! She was not very friendly but still helped me out. At the end I had to scan some coupons and I asked for her help again. She was not happy and showed me attitude since I didn't do the way she told me. At the end I told her I didn't like the way she treated me and would report her to the manager. She said go ahead. I asked her name and she told told me her first name only. Anyway I did talk to the manager on duty about what happened. The manager said she will talk to that woman. I have to say, half of the products/food items are often tampered with, courtesy of the homeless, who this business seems to welcome. They come in there to eat, which I have personally witnessed. Many food items have been opened which is gross, but not as gross as the used diaper I saw in a cart. Then they leave the same paper towels and toilet tissue up there which nobody wants to buy because they have been ripped open. I order online for Drive up and Go quite a bit from the store in Bend Oregon. I was visiting my family in the Bay Area which is how I think the address for this location was on my phone and when I returned home to Bend I placed an order for pick up a couple of days later. The day of pick up I arrived and put in my spot that I parked and waited. No one was coming out so I called the Bend location and they said the order was in San Leandro so I called customer service. While I was on the phone my app dinged saying that I had picked up the order in California which was very strange since my vehicle is a red suv and I had the code so who did they give the order to? I continued to speak to customer service and they said the Manager of the San Leandro store would call me. I called back to the store and to customer service for five days straight and was told that my refund would be processed within 7 business days of the initial dispute. We are now almost two weeks later and no call from the manager and no refund. Called customer service again and this time I recorded the conversation and they said that they would escalate it. I no longer trust what they say so I contacted my bank, they returned the money to my account and they are disputing it with all my evidence including recording. The checkers here at the Greenhouse Safeway in San Leandro are incredibly rude and untrained. The front end manager , Mei, said that if you do not have a smartphone so you cannot take advantage of their "digital " prices on items, the checker cannot discriminate against you and must still give you the digital price. Yet every time I ask, the checker is rude and says they cannot do it. I have to ask for the store manager to get involved, and he tells them they must give me digital price. One checker even implied that I was Lying when I told him that. Insanely rude, aggravating, and a waste of time. read more

I placed an order through the Safeway App and the inventory count has been inaccurate at the 3 other locations that I tried, so this time I decided to call and check, even though the App said this location had stock for the Teavana Green Tea Sparkling Peach Nectarine drink. Mia assisted me over the phone and checked if there was any stock and of course the app was incorrect again and there was no stock at this Safeway location. However, when there wasn't inventory for what I wanted, Mia checked for an alternative flavor for what I wanted. Never have I ever seen an employee tell a customer to go get a bag of spinach from the produce department because they ran out of spinach...until today. This morning me and my friends walked into Safeway at 7:15 am, we get in line for the deli and witness the employees sent the girl in line ahead of us to go and get them spinach because they ran out then refuse to help anyone else until she returns. You mean to tell me that for a whole hour that you've been open on a Saturday you did not restock your deli???!!!! I hardly ever write 1 star reviews but the fact that it took 45 minutes for 3 egg, cheese and ham wraps is beyond ridiculous. In this case we should have just gone to a restaurant and sat down but instead we went to Safeway deli because we thought it would be faster. Boy were we wrong! Their online service Is terrible. I ordered Open nature Turkey special advertised at $5.34 they switched It to a different brand of lower quality and charged me $37.69 I called up C. S Lady said she would take care of it. And send me and email to confirm. 3 hrs later I go to the store check my purchase and the Turkeys in the bag. I told Leslie the worker what happened and she said she would look into I She also took the Turkey back . I waited 5: days still no credit back on my account.I called customer service and for 8 minutes I kept getting the run around from the phone machine. I called the main office and talked to Lyka, who told me there's nothing she could do about it. I would have to call the store back. I told nothing doing I'm going to call my credit card account and dispute the charge. She then called the store and put me on hold for 12 minutes said she couldn't get through put me on hold again for 15 minutes. To finally tell me she couldn't get through and for me to try tomorrow I tried writing them after that. The site wouldn't take my state nor subject topic and would not send out my request. I'm done with shopping at Safeway there Customer Service and Robot machines are a waste of time.Plus the music program stinks pure torture. Next stop credit card dispute. I come to this safeway all the time and usually i have no problems. i've just never been to the starbucks here and i came to get a tumblr, i wasn't sure if i was able to use my starbucks stars here and i asked if i was able to and she blatantly responded "yeah". so i continued looking for my cup and when i found it i came back and set it on the counter and i went into my bag to get my app out and while i was doing that she had her hand in pants and told me "lift up the cup". now i don't mind doing that but i've bought cups before and they usually will pick them up and scan them and offer a bag. but she did neither and on top of that she was just rude. i don't know her name but she was a darker girl in a bright pink hoodie. so i would not recommend the starbucks, because even the smallest thing turned into a bigger thing than it had to be and i was just buying a cup. read more

Safeway inside Greenhouse shopping center so its convenient to other stores. Its a very average shopping experience - no frills, moderate lines at the registers expected, average hours but with a great bakery. I do like the baked goods at Safeway more than other similarly priced grocery stores. In particular the fruit tart offered is delicious. It costs about $16 and has berries on top of custard with a crispy flaky crust. The crust makes it so much better than other places. It has a thin chocolate layer that prevents the custard from making the cookie crust soggy. On the bottom of the crust is large granular sugar. The whole thing put together is excellent and something to look forward to. Today, 3/28/17 I went in the late morning to pick one up. When asked if there were any available today the lady working there almost taunted, "yes we have some there but they are not available until the afternoon." First time ever I heard such a thing. It takes less than a minute to throw one in a plastic container and slap a sticker on it. A couple times before a guy was very helpful and did what she was unwilling to do. You do get a level of care more expected from a budget supermarket sometimes depending on who you happen to have help you. read more

Wow, i'm surprised by all the bad reviews. I frequent this Safeway since its on my way home from work and i find that its organized, well stocked, fresh produce, meats, specialty items with a Starbucks inside. Granted, i rarely go to the deli, the bakery or the floral counter but in general the lines move quickly during not peak hours. I think in order for people to appreciate this Safeway, people need to visit the one on Jackson in Hayward. That particular Safeway is very old school and not as well stocked, with usually one checker, no self-check out and no Starbucks inside. Then again, it probably has to do with the 'characters' that shop there...they kind of ruin for the rest of us. Oh yeah... I've witnessed a person running out with a shopping basket and jumping into a waiting car...and a guy shoving a rack of ribs down his sweat pants and walking out..OH BOY! read more

I had a kind associate in the delivery department assist me with a order that I was having delivered. The persons name is LALY. Whoahhhhh Customer Service is A++ or 10+++++ excellent. I was concerned about my order. Laly went out of the way and told me that they would pull my order personally . I just want management to be aware this store is blessed to have such a kind and helpful person working for your store and thank you again for your help LALY. I have had horrible experiences with the American Canyon store delivering ( maybe Laly should go over there and train them ) I will definitely be ordering from you again. Management please note I won a year subscription to Safeway last year during the monopoly game . I had until Monday to decide if I was going to pay and keep it or cancel LALY service has restored my faith that delivery orders can be delivered correctly and people do care, so I am going to keep the subscription because this employee showed me there are people that are willing to help and go the extra mile.
