Love this market for buying cultural food! Me & my family have been coming here for years and they never disappoint. Yes it's small but they literally have everything you need. They even sell meat pies!! My family loves this place so much that before they opened their new location in Sacramento my family would drive all the way from Sac just to buy their meakai because it was that good! Went there three weeks ago. Purchased a box of banana - $35; box of lamb - $125; mussels - 3 for $34.99, taro leaves were $4.99/lb. Went there last week, ordered most of the same thing. Surprised that the box of lamb was now $129.99 and the lb of taro leaves went up from $4.99 /lb to $5.99/lb. Mussels were the same but went home and found that some were bad and had dead flies in the box. I can pay extra to support a business that is selling cultural foods but will quickly rescind that support when the quality of goods are questionable and the service lacks transparency. It doesn't help that there are no advertised prices nor are the items named on the receipt meaning they could shift a price whenever and however they want. I will have to report this to FTC & BBB or else companies such as this will continue to enrich themselves to the detriment of the Pacific Island community. Prasad Island Market is a very small market with a frozen section selling meats, seafood. a refrigeration section selling produce, juices, et al. the can section has large containers with sauces, condiments, meats, food products. they also have clothing, jewelry, cosmetics available as well as some snacks. the goods are from Australia/New Zealand, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands of Fuji, Samoa, Tonga. most items didn't satisfy a personal need, an adversity to cooking, or not being a clothing diva. i did find something to nipple on: 3 packages of cookies (coconut, breakfast, & choc. chip) for $5. slightly too sweet, and made from palm oil.... the people here were friendly, courteous, and helpful...their patrons have a proper venue to source their needs. read more

We haven't been here in a while until recently - they're quite stocked up now, so much so that the store is now jam packed with grocery items, tshirts, sweatshirts, accessories & novelty Polynesian items that are scarce in the Bay Area. They used to have a few options of baked goods - maybe they still do but happen to have sold out when we arrived as we went late afternoon on a Saturday. They have an extensive frozen section of meats & other items, fresh green bananas & large taro, & occasional baked goods. One case of 12 Iapana, once case 24 wahoo (yellow label), one case 12 ox & palm corned beef, & a small bucket of masi brought our total to just under $200. Still pricey but this is one of the only markets in our area where we can buy these items. Customer service is great as they offer to take it all to your car for you. read more

This is small place but stock with good hard to find food for poly's...lol!! if you know, you know... Their hours used to be inconsistent but since the cousin has taken over the running of this store, it's been open on time at the hours of business. It's been like this now for a few years, I believe. I definitely appreciate this as I travel far and would hate to waste time waiting around (like before). The staff are helpful and as the other review reported, they will help you to your car -carry that heavy pusa povi, taro, pusa fa'i, mamoe, etc. The food is pricey but hey, food prices increased everywhere. Unfortunately, sometimes you have a craving for certain meats that our everyday grocery don't carry so, you WiLL pay the high price for that special treat :) I enjoy going here. This store is a little small and grimy. But the friendliness and helpfulness of the workers and the owner overrides it. Also, they have a variety of foods that represent the pacific islands. Clearly states on the business hours: Sunday 10 - 5. It's now 10:46 and I'm still waiting outside in their parking lot (pause). Apparently the store owner/ operator has been sitting in his van parked on the street the last 46 minutes on his phone. He gets out and says, "Danm workers didn't show up.". He than takes another 10 minutes to open up the store front only for me to go in and find out he doesn't have what I came for. Unprofessional service. This is America buddy. I miss the lady who used to man the counter! She was always so lovely, nice and so welcoming. It's being run by her brother now? And there's a noticeable difference in atmosphere and service with both him and I'm guessing his wife. Also concerning was the lack of a mask on the staff there. Just visited this store. First impression, the store is cute & small. I wish I was able to go through their entire inventory of clothes, it seemed decent. Unfortunately, my experience was cut short. As I walked in, I noticed there were 2 men walking around, both men seemed very rude to customers, no acknowledgment, no asking if anyone needed help, very much to themselves. I came here trying to grab a few things for someone at home with cancer. Since she can't leave home & facetime wasnt an option. I was texting her showing what snacks they carried. The gentleman in a white t shirt at the cash register yelled from across the isle to stop sending photos. Scared the hell out of me. I wanted to drop my items and find a different store but I didn't want to cuss this man out in front of my kid. I bit my tongue and took my ass to the front to pay. I asked to see some of the items behind the counter, while he was calculating my total. I wanted to get her a cute headband since her hair's starting to grow back, terrible decision. He had an attitude the entire time. Showed me half of what was in his boxes. I just paid for what I had and left. I wish they provided a decent experience, I would've bought hell of more items. Oh boy! Sent my bf here after a while to pickup some lamb. Well over the phone, a lady quoted me $3.99/pound but bf checked out two packets of lamb for around $35!! I'm very disappointed. I picked up some Lu (Taro leaves) yesterday and when I opened it up this morning to make the lu and this is what I got. It's probably 2 weeks old and they still charged me full price. They could've at least given me a heads up. When I went in I saw the employee packing lu, I checked the fridge and I didn't like what was in there. So another employee handed me a packet from what was being packed. Now it makes sense. Ok, what happened to the meaning of good ole "customer service". I went into this store today with my husband to buy 3 mostly black Tongan shirts. (Backstory : Hubby & I are on the rocks and likely end up divorced soon). We walked into Prasad and I decided to buy 3 black/red shirts to wear to my dear friend Danny Perez's (owner/promoter of ISLAND RAGGAE FESTIVAL) funeral gathering today. I told the lady to bring out a few shirts, she puts them on the counter. My husband and I started arguing in the store so he walks out the store, I follow him because I didn't bring my purse...he started yelling at me for buying overpriced shirts etc which brought me to tears...sobbing my hubby still yelling etc so I got inside the car to go home. We go home, I picked up my purse and rushed back to the store to buy the shirts with red eyes etc. The lady looked offended when I arrived, she reminded me to go get a mask, I said sorry I'll go put one on. I go to my car, put on a mask and went back in and asked for the shirts , she looks at me annoyed and said you are very rude, next time tell me you're not getting them. I was so shocked that she confronted me in a very demeaning manner. I immediately had tears come to my eyes thinking "if you only knew what happened to me". Embarrassed with tears about to fall in my eyes I said no thank you to the shirts and left. To the lady in the counter, please be more kind with customers when they walk into your store. You don't know what they are dealing with. I called you to explain myself because I didn't want to explain with people around but your ph voicemail says its full. What happened to the "Island" feeling and service? You make money off of mostly Polynesians etc but where's the Polynesian soul / feeling in regards to how you handle customers. Please be more kind. My family purchase huge orders from your store because they are church leaders but I don't know now if we all should continue to do this. If there's anyone here that know a good Polynesian Market other than this store in Hayward please let me know so I can go there instead from now on and I can market that store on all 3 of our business websites and social media. Its very difficult to get authentic pacific island groceries in the bay (i know of only two in the east bay!) and prasad is conveniently located off mission blvd in the stack yee! They got the gud fasipovi, samoan crackers, taro and frozen stuf not to mention material,island flags,clothes and island jewelry just to mention a few! I'm the only review? I love this place.. They have the corned beef from the islands.. the one that's extra fatty .. I think last I knew it was 3 for 10 .. they also have the island essentials like taro, tapioca, FISH!!! Parrot fish, unicorn fish, tuna!! And they are caught wild in the south pacific. None of that farmed fish junk. Another cool thing is that they have national t-shirts. Surprisingly they have one with Palau printed across. As a Palauan, I know there's only a small population of us in the east bay/tri city area. So they definitely know who their customers are. I think the family that owns it live upstairs which is cute. The family I'm sure is Indo-Fijian. Their store definitely identifies more with their island culture. My family has been shopping here since I can remember. This was the only store like it until a few weeks ago when Catalina Island grocery opened. I will definitely compare but still remain loyal to Prasad's read more

Love this place! Super nice owners and they carry my kids fav snack - bongos!! Bongos are from Fiji and after researching all places in the area and considering paying international shipping ($25 for 25 small bags!), I opted to make the drive to Hayward. So glad I did! 3.50 for a large bag and .50 for snack size bags!! read more
