Today I took my mother in law to the Homestead Safeway to send a money transfer at the Western Union desk in the front of the store and was helped by Josh. At first he said we would have to come back in an hour because he was just starting his lunch hour (which I thought was totally reasonable), but then he quickly changed his mind and said he would help us. He worked as quickly as possible (I didn't blame him) but was very efficient and polite. He also showed a lot of patience with my 86-year-old mother in law, whose English is not perfect and needs a bit of extra time and help when doing things like this. I didn't feel like we were being rushed at all even though I knew he was already overdue for his lunch time. Josh was also answering questions from other passers-by while he was helping us and he was very professional with everyone. He deserves a big shout out for going the extra step in assisting us when he didn't have to (and I would not have expected him to), and for handling our transaction with courtesy and patience. I picked up some liquid egg product but did not realize when I got home that it was 6 days passed the use by date!!! The smell was terrible and rancid I had to throw it out. Why was something like this on the floor??? W/ all the sickness going around with different food products you'd think they'd be more aware. I went to Safeway homestead on 06/7 and I was buying soda which it says $2.99 for the root beer and squirt but I got charged $6.98 on the squirt and I went to customer service and it happened that Debbie was there to help me. She asked me if I'm sure it's $2.99 and I showed her the picture that I took. She checked the add and stated that the squirt is not included. I asked her if she wants to go with me on the isle so I can show it to her but she started showing that she's irritated. When she refunded me the money and asked me to used the same card and press the green button but I can't see it so she started yelling and repeated saying green button like several times on a loud voice. I said don't be so rude and she said no you are. There's no personality on her. She's like she's not happy about her job. read more

I came to Safeway today to purchase California rolls from the deli. When I asked the employee working there if I could get chopsticks and soy sauce, she pointed to the area where they are usually kept and said they didn't have any. She had a slight attitude, walked away, and immediately began helping someone else, leaving me standing there with my food. I even asked, "How am I supposed to eat this?" as she walked away, and she repeated that they didn't have any without even bothering to check or offer to ask someone else. A few minutes later, a young man came out from the back. I asked him the same question about chopsticks and soy sauce. He looked where they normally are, saw they weren't there, then checked another spot and quickly found them for me. I thanked him because he was actually willing to help. The difference in service between the two employees was very noticeable. One person didn't want to help at all, while the other took a moment to actually look and solve the problem. Customer service matters, and the lack of effort and dismissive attitude from the first employee was disappointing and disrespectful. I left about 15 minutes ago and felt the need to write this review because experiences like that shouldn't happen. read more

DEBBIE "customer service" manager is extremely unprofessional, loud and RUDE!!! i've rented the rug doctor pro twice from this location and i will no longer be renting it from the safeway on homestead. DEBBIE was an extremely unpleasant person to deal with when i was returning the machine, she began to nit pick and point out that the machine wasn't clean and ready for the next customer... odd because last time i rented and returned the machine there was no issue, and i was able to get my deposit back... not this time! i obviously had made sure to dump out the old solution and water, and made sure that both tanks were empty... that wasn't sufficient enough for debbie! on top of being overly aggressive and unnecessarily difficult and refusing to give me my deposit unless i took the machine home and "cleaned" it, she was speaking extremely loud and was clearly causing a spectacle, which then caused me to tell her that i didn't need her to be lecturing ME, a paying CUSTOMER, who has always frequented that location... she refused to take accountability and humble herself, and instead doubled down and continued her tirade against me, this lady is an ABHORRENT representation for safeway and i made sure to tell my family about the situation so they know to proceed with caution when at this location dear debbie, im not sure you've ever heard this before or if no one has ever told you this but your delivery is AWFUL, you're obnoxious and rude, and have an extremely negative aura about you, which makes doing any business with you unpleasant, which, i made sure to let you know to your face, that my whole interaction with you was UNPLEASANT... so enjoy the $40 deposit you so desperately needed and were dangling above my head, because i wasn't going to jump through unnecessary hoops to appease the walking contradiction "customer service" manager named DEBBIE lol read more

I was checking expiration dates to avoid buying bread that was close to expiring. The vendor accused me of "squishing his bread" and kept bad-mouthing me. I wasn't squishing anything--I handled the bread normally and reorganized the display afterward. I felt targeted and possibly treated this way because of my race. I first spied this Safeway while pulling into the tiny, cumbersome, dangerous parking lot of the nearby UPS Store. I went on to check it out because I needed a little somethin' somethin', and more than a decade later, I've been here at least twenty times and have even used its DriveUp & Go services a couple of times. For a suburban Safeway, it's on the smaller side, but it isn't small. The selection is very good for the size of the store. The parking lot can be a mess, but it's shared with other businesses, so that's not really Safeway's fault. The most annoying part of the store is familiar to supermarket goers everywhere: There's not enough room between the checkout stands and the aisles themselves, so while you're waiting to check out, you're blocking people who are trying to zigzag their way through all the aisles. But why am I focusing on the negative? The people who work here are always nice, and they always have everything I need. I often come here before I go to Costanoa; and the first time that happened, I picked up a very reliable, affordable, and lightweight flashlight from here. I've since bought at least five more flashlights from that company, although I haven't seen them here (I ordered the rest from the company website) since that first time. It can feel like a trek getting here, but I had this entire ritualized pattern that is now slightly altered because of a certain restaurant's lack of pinball machines. You probably don't know what I'm talking about, and that's fine. Oh, and when my friend Dan lived near here, which wasn't for very long, we came to stock up on pretzels and carrots before a night of Wiz-War, and I was shocked that it was the UPS Store Safeway, as I think of it--sort of. There might be another Safeway farther down Homestead Road, and that store isn't as good. I think/believe this because GPS once led me to a different Safeway, even though I had punched in Homestead Road. Speaking of the roads around here, the blocks are ridiculously long in this part of Santa Clara, so if you miss the parking lot, don't do the San Francisco right-right-right move. Just make a U-turn. I'm normally a right-right-right guy, but if you do that here, it will take you forever. read more

On Friday afternoon, 7/13/24 at 3:15pm I was very disappointed and disgusted with what I saw in the daily department. I wanted to buy a gallon of milk but there was dirt on the outside of containers. It was Christmas day and started eating some chips because I had as so hungry and am diabetic and paid for it about three mins later then went to talk to the supervisor who does the online shopping stuff who's Hispanic. I let him know some other Hispanic lady about fifty years old was harassing me following while eating the chips. After I let this man know I think his name may start with an R he and about five other staff members were following me around harassing me. This is clearly a Safeway strategy to harass customers for whatever reasons Safeway seems necessary. Apparently this is a common practice at Safeway stores. read more

It was the first time I was doing shopping in the safeway on the corner of Kiely and Homestead since I have another Safeway closer. I was looking for "Lady Fingers" cookies, going back and forth along the isle. I did not find them. Mr Drew was passing me by and stopped to ask what I was looking for. He took time to look for it with me and than contacted Mr Anthony who found them yet not the brand I was looking for but still !!. This store has some of the worst attitudes. Two years ago, I went all the way to customer service to ask for help getting something on a top shelf since I am less than 5 feet tall. The assistant manager told the tall floor clerk to help, and he said he was too busy and walked away. This occurred after I asked a passing store clerk for help and was refused since he was too busy. I stopped shopping there for at least two years. This isn't the only supermarket in a 2 mile radius. Then Rite Aid closed and the Amazon locker at this location is the closest replacement. I really miss that Rite Aid. Today, the locker screen stopped accepting input. It just needed to be turned on and off. Maybe just unplugged for 10 seconds. The customer service desk refused to listen to the customer in line in before me who discovered the problem minutes earlier. They told him to call the 800 number on the front of the locker. So I did. One of the first menu selections is 2 for the store where the locker is located. Five stars to the Amazon Locker lady on the phone who remotely rebooted the Locker and zero stars to Safeway customer service. read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. These people have no idea what it means to help loyal customers, let alone answer a simple question. It took 10 minutes for a "customer service manager" to help me. And even then, his I-could-care-a-less attitude was evident. This is an okay Safeway. This shopping center at Homestead seems to be run down, and not as nice and new as most places around Santa Clara, but it is the nearest Safeway to me, so what are ya gonna do? This location is decently stocked with almost everything you need. Haven't had too many issues finding things, and the sales/deals make things decently priced, but if you don't do the deals, Safeway prices are sky high! The checkers so far have been nice enough, and the deli and bakery food is fine. I do also like that they have a Starbucks inside. read more

This is just for the deli food. It's obviously not a 5 star rating in terms of taste, but the customer service and beaming smiles from the pleasant lady and gentleman at the counter added to it. Like seriously, how are your smiles so wide when it's 8pm after a long hard day's of work?? And they gave me HEAPING piles of food, much thanks from this hungry soul who is in the middle of moving and doesn't have the kitchen set up yet. So Safeway offers $8 meals for one entree and two sides. The entrees are pretty much all chicken, with variations such as fried, teriyaki, buffalo, and a few other flavors. I've tried the three I mentioned and they were solid. A little dry and obviously not the most fresh but it's pretty good for 8pm grocery deli food. The sides though! The sides shine, they have like 10 different variations of pasta salads and salads. A super nice uncle figure waiting in line told me to get the pea and prosciutto-like ham thingy pasta salad that he always comes back for but is never available until today (his lucky day!), so I had to try it because my man literally comes in hoping to see this and if it's as rare as he describes, I wasn't about to pass it up. And yeah it was pretty good! Even better when heated up the next day. Or maybe I just like warm pastas. I also tried their mozzarella and tomato salad which is what you would expect it to taste like, the tomatoes tasted like they might be going bad (definitely not fresh) but the vinaigrette sauce is good. Hubby got the bang bang shrimp pasta salad and the seafood salad with imitation crab meat and shrimp, not bad. My favorite though is the mango kale salad with coconut strips and cashews. Idk what they put in the dressing but it's slightly sweet, creamy, and tangy. This one is BOMB you have to get it! Also got their basil pasta salad with sun dried tomatoes and that one is realllly good two. Hubby also tried the lemon pasta salad and another one I forgot, but all were quite good. And the value is awesome, again it's $8 for the meal and if you're frugal like me and willing to eat until you're just 75% full, it can stretch and last 2 meals OH YEAH. read more

Safeway on Homestead is so slow about restocking their shelves, that even if you wait to shop until late morning or early afternoon, chances are the shelves are bare. The milk never gets pushed forward so you can reach it, veggies and fruit are often moldy or rotten, and I have found products past their expiration date often! This store is going downhill fast!! I love coming here. Extremely convenient and the most people at the deli for sandwiches are great l, except for one. The older lady that works at the deli is always rude, annoyed and doesn't seem like to want to help. Once, I stupidly waited for 15 min to get her attention to help me with a sandwich. Safeway digital coupon needs to be fix. We are not in 1970. Why after ringing up $100 worth of good. The bread he rang up was on a digital coupon to get it for 88 cents. So their system cannot delete on item. You have to delete the whole large transaction. Just to take a picture of the digital coupon and get the saving. Finally i got so frustrated forget it. I come to this Safeway since I work down the street and it's super easy to get to. All the employees are helpful & nice. I always end up engaging with a fun cashier and I'm sent off with a good feeling. This Safeway is pretty busy on football Sundays so I would try to shop after the games or while they're on. They're bakery has someone helping. They have this white vanilla cake that's completely scrumptious when room temperature. I always try to get their $5 fridays on the chicken strips. They just taste so good & are very filling. I love it. read more

This review is for Donna B. at self checkout. She seemed annoyed when we had questions/ needed help. Her attitude was bad, which gave us a feeling that we were not being valued as customers. Eventually our problem was solved, but I believe there were better ways to take care of our problem. I have been to Safeway at other locations, and their staffs seem more respectful when talking to customers. I don't think we would want to return to this store again because of the attitude we received. I will not recommend my friends to go to this store. read more

Check dates of produce. I've seen items that are well past their expiration date. Checkout staff is a little rude. There's one girl there with semi sleeve tattoos with a San Jose shark tattoo on her arm. She's a little lazy when it comes to check out. She refuses to do any customer service work. She will instead tell you that it's not possible even though you tell her you've done it many times before. I've seen many customers walking around without mask and staff doesn't care at all. But that doesn't surprise me since many of the staff keep their mask below their nose. Also there is never enough checkout lines. The most I've ever seen is two open. read more

Use this Safeway only if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. If you have enough gas, drive to a better ran location. If you have UBER, use them to get a ride to a better ran location. If you have the ability to move in any sort of way, do yourself a favor and go to a better ran facility! I'd ride on the back of Queen Daenerys Targaryen's dragon before I'd return to this particular Safeway; and I'm not Stormborn. I can't ride dragons. I'd surely be eaten. Why do I feel this way? This place almost always participates in the bait and switch tactics with their sales items on their ads. They(management) also will not do 'rain checks'. Nothing in the ad is ever in stock. Good luck. They never have more than (2) open register lines during the busiest Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes it's just (1) open. Expect to wait 30 plus minutes in line. If it's a holiday, I hope you have some PTO at work. You're going to need it for the wait in line your about to succumb to. NOBODY responds to the cashiers requesting backup cashier assistance. Ever. I've seen 'managers' on their phones behind the customer service counter blatantly ignore cashiers pleas for assistance. Their produce is consistently disgusting and rotting. I wish I took pictures of the brown milky goo that once was a romaine heart... The meat department is filled with people who get offended that you need help or they have to assist you. They'd rather stand around and cohort with each other behind the counter. They also like to close the meat counter early; I've experienced this first hand on numerous occasions. Need a cart or hand basket?! Hilarious. If you EVER see a shopping cart alone in the wild at this Safeway, CAPTURE IT IMMEDIATELY! Otherwise, you will be forced to hand carry anything you want to purchase when you shop here or look like a shoplifter having to use the bags you came in with. Nothing to ease your shopping experience is ever available when you need it here. If dry moldy bread and frozen "FRESH" pies are your thing, you're in luck. Try this Safeway's bakery. The bathrooms. For all that is holy. DO NOT USE THE BATHROOMS. I've never seen such a horribly disgusting portrayal of a bathroom my entire life. College dorms have cleaner facilities. I took pictures of the crime scene I walked into when I attempted to use their restroom. Management truly is and will continue to be a debilitating issue with this Safeway. Anytime I have had to deal with them, I've received nothing but attitude, deflection and outright rude behavior. (When ever I've been lucky enough or able to locate a manager.) LIFE PRO TIP: If you find yourself looking for a manager, try looking by the Starbucks counter. You're sure to find one or two conversing with the staff there.
