    California rolls

I came to Safeway today to purchase California rolls from the deli. When I asked the employee working there if I could get chopsticks and soy sauce, she pointed to the area where they are usually kept and said they didn't have any. She had a slight attitude, walked away, and immediately began helping someone else, leaving me standing there with my food. I even asked, "How am I supposed to eat this?" as she walked away, and she repeated that they didn't have any without even bothering to check or offer to ask someone else. A few minutes later, a young man came out from the back. I asked him the same question about chopsticks and soy sauce. He looked where they normally are, saw they weren't there, then checked another spot and quickly found them for me. I thanked him because he was actually willing to help. The difference in service between the two employees was very noticeable. One person didn't want to help at all, while the other took a moment to actually look and solve the problem. Customer service matters, and the lack of effort and dismissive attitude from the first employee was disappointing and disrespectful. I left about 15 minutes ago and felt the need to write this review because experiences like that shouldn't happen.

On Friday afternoon, 7/13/24 at 3:15pm I was very disappointed and disgusted with what I saw in the daily department. I wanted to buy a gallon of milk but there was dirt on the outside of containers. There's a photo attached. Would you buy this milk? I can't believe they put these gallons of milk out to be purchased. Plus look at the mold on the shelves.

Woman wrongly accuses me of shoplifting

There's a woman here who wrongly accuses me of Steph every time I'm here. She takes one look at me and kicks me out and accuses me of stealing. I asked for her name and she will not provide it. She has a friend in the store who does not work there and it's just standing there talking to her while she's stocking. This woman stopped me in the middle of my shopping and kicked me out of the store. When I went to dispute the allegation of me being a stuffed her friend who doesn't even work there says that IM interrupting THEIR conversation.... Like no ma'am, I was minding my own business shopping before this happened. This woman has kicked me out three times now and I've never stolen anything from there.. I told her to call the police and she wouldn't. I asked for her name and she would not provide it. she says I'd come here and take things for free. I don't come to the Safeway because she literally does this each time.

I mean, it's Safeway so if it's nearby and you need groceries then you gotta do what you gotta do. Just really be careful and double check everything. Found these molded strawberries and I decided to put all my stuff back and go to a different Safeway on stevens creek.

It wasn't subtle or occasional, it was continuous and obvious. I ended up handling my own groceries midway because I was genuinely concerned. This is on management. You need a clear, enforced policy that if an employee is sick or showing symptoms, they wear a mask or they don't work the register. I don't want to hear "it's allergies." A symptom is a symptom. Employees are not doctors, and customers shouldn't have to guess or absorb the risk. I'm saying this because I got sick, and I have long COVID and a chronic condition as a result. That's exactly why this matters. We all went through COVID. Everyone should know better by now. I cannot be expected to wear a mask everywhere I go because other people come to work sick. If someone gets sick a few times a year, they can wear a mask while working. That's basic care and responsibility. Your groceries are too gd expensive and too mid for me to put up with this. If this isn't taken seriously, I'll shop somewhere else. Fix it.

It was on a recent accidental trip that I found myself at this Santa Clara Walmart Neighborhood Market. It essentially is a larger size version of your typical supermarkets like Safeway or Lucky, except it's a lot more spacious & carry more grocery options. Due to its warehouse-like operation, the prices are slightly more affordable in general than those aforementioned stores; especially when things go on sales. For example, I scored a dozen maple glazed donuts for $4.69 (normally, $6.99, Dunkin or Krispy would have been more than $15. And if you take the time to look through each aisle, you may notice that they have some red stickers with significant markdowns, for example, a 10oz brown gravy mix normally $0.99-$1.39 elsewhere, it was $0.32, I got a whole bunch, it's perfect for my Canadian soul food - le Poutine, it works really well! And yes, the staff can be a hit or miss, depending on who you ask, but in general, they are pretty helpful, I never had problems. If there's a minor complaint, it's that you need the physical credit card to self-checkout, no GooglePay or Apple pay, etc, that's kind of pain in the you-know-where, but when I get my groceries with low prices, I'm really OK! In summary, it's been such a long time, I completely forgot that there's this Walmart Neighborhood Market within 2 miles of where I live. With dollar stores no longer offer DOLLAR items, some raised to $1.25, $3 - $5 in certain freezer items. it makes more sense to just drive here where they offer more choices at equal or better prices.

They had the usual array of nonstick pots, which don't work very well for me. They had a small but useful section for clay pots. I thought Amazon and AliExpress had overpriced clay pots, but I was wrong. These prices were significantly higher. I can only hope these are the best of the best. Checking up on 99 Ranch, I couldn't even find clay pots in there more limited kitchen utensil section. I ran across one item where knockoffs are ubiquitous. They've completely flooded AliExpress and you have to watch it with Amazon. Hankook had the authentic item and at significantly lower price than both Amazon and Aldi express. I found a tea section to be well stocked. I also recognize some of the tea brands. 99 Ranch has gone with lower cost options, but if you buy 6 ounces of tea, are you gonna be stuck with an enormous supply. Better to go with reliable brands that I have enjoyed in the past. I loved the produce section. It was nice and fresh. It also had wider selection of produce than other supermarkets. The store itself is stunning. The the aisles are spacious. The store is meticulously clean. The shelves are fully stocked. There were only about two items which were shopped out. The snack area and the frozen foods were even more interesting. It's obvious in those two sections that there were many more Korean brands. I should've tried some, but it's hard for me to resist snacks and there was a good chance that would finish the entire bag in one go. Better to skip it entirely. The parking lot for the supermarket is spacious. I had no trouble finding a spot even though I arrived in the late afternoon when everybody has gotten off work. I live about two hours away.
