The Nob Hill in Mountain View has closed ... it always seemed to be pretty busy ... had great fresh fruit/veggie dept. and tasty goods from the bakery ... now, I'm not driving 10 miles across town to shop at the Santa Clara store. read more

It's pleasant to shop there and they have some good products. Folks working there are friendly, helpful, and thankfully, don't feel stressed out, so us shoppers are at ease too. About 80% of the shop is food desert fare though, upmarket or not: sugar, salt, saturated fats and additives laden, ultraprocessed foods with long shelf life (thanks mostly to preservatives), and tons of sweets and snacks. Most of the healthy-styled products are also full of unhealthy additives and sugars. Gluten free is fairly well covered but that's it. Vegan/lactose free, additives free, added sugar free or organic are like needles in a haystack or missing. If a product checks one box, it's often at the expense of other boxes. Evidence shows that ultraprocessed food, additives and quickly absorbing carbohydrates are bad for the health. The other 20% of the products are reasonably good, and some are excellent, mostly in the small produce section. And there aren't a lot of organic options there. The overall atmosphere and service is great, folks are friendly, yet it's full of food that's bad for you. One example is sushi: all have weird sauces squirted on them. There's better sushi, including some real ones (like, just salmon), in Foodmaxx. I think the classier place should have the classier products. I still recommend the place as it's still better than comparable shops (pleasant atmosphere, medium size). There's a lot more organic produce in the nearby, larger Foodmaxx, though its ambience is bottom of the heap. I wish the selection at Nob Hill were more earnestly healthy, and not just in superficial ways. I think there's room for it, because much shelf space is wasted on repetitive, reoccurring, mostly undifferentiated products. It'd be super easy to free up 10-20% of shelf/cooler space for healthy food. What we eat matters even more than the pleasant interior and good service. It's a shame to have to opt for Whole Foods or even Foodmaxx for some healthier products. read more

The food is usually fine (excepting super-large produce items that are sometimes larger than available pots). The accuracy of online selection and delivery has fallen off badly in the past two months (from spring '25). If I order three things for one recipe, I'm likely to get one in the quantity specified, one in a different (usually smaller) quantity, and one missing from the order altogether. Between five-pound cauliflowers and ten grapes or beans in lieu of a pound, a modification of the intended menu is very likely...and very frustrating. read more

This is my quick go to Grocery shopping place. It's not as big as Lucky or Safeway with loads of choices but still good given it's so close to all the residential area. They have fresh vegetables, meats ,snacks, frozen foods, bakery products ,dairy products & fresh seafood (very limited) also they have a deli which is a plus I have tried soups, tamales, sandwiches , enchiladas all were good they also have few desserts like cakes & donuts. Pre pandemic they had fresh hot foods hoping they might start again. Their staff is always kind & very helpful plus added bonus for me is since I am a member ( which is free) I get lots of discounts & free stuff. I receive all digital coupons on their app which is so helpful, nowadays who remember to carry the coupon & track it . Store is always clean & they restock fresh produce daily. We had a shockingly racist encounter with a white check out woman here. I am white and visiting my Indian friend. As we checked out, she didn't seem to realize we were together because I was standing back a couple of feet. I was stunned at how she scowled at him, rolling her eyes and looking at him with literal disgust for absolutely no reason. Once I stepped up, she was so different with me and I think she seemed even embarrassed to realize that I was with this person and saw that she was treating him like street trash. Her entire demeanor changed and she was so polite and eager to please. It repulsed me to watch her change so effortlessly. I asked my friend afterward if he had interacted with her before for her to treat him so nastily, to which he sadly said matter of fact, "I've never seen this woman. Some people really just don't like brown and Indian people." Well, if she is going to be so racist and hateful, I would hope that she can at least learn to hide her hate a little better. read more

Right off the bat parking is easy peasy or maybe I have been lucky as I've never had an issue with finding a spot. I'm thinking it's because every time the girlfriend sends me to the market for something it has been doing normal work hours. Who knows... Nob Hill is a part of the Raley's family but this is a decidedly smaller store with fewer merchandise than a Raley's. However, I like coming to Nob Hill because it's conveniently located down the street from my pad, their produce/fruits are generally fresh and the store is clean & spacious. Oh, about the restroom, they are super clean too with plenty of paper towel and soap. And that's important because I don't want to take care of business in a rubbish dump aka storage room. read more

Who hasn't been overcharged on grocery items, but overcharged on 4 of 11 items bought? Nob Hill had their ribbon cutting opening at their store on Lawrence and Monroe in January, but I had not been to this store until I saw the $10 off purchase of $35 in the newspaper. Takes 15 minutes to drive there from Las Palmas Park, with us passing Safeway, Trader Joe's and Sprouts supermarkets along the way. Can't miss the store, dominating the corner on busy Lawrence Expressway with big banners announcing the grand opening even in June, 5 months after opening in January. Parking is a tight squeeze even for my new Honda Fit subcompact. Saw an SUV have to backing out, having to do multiple gear changes to edge out of a parking space, with another SUV parked across the aisle. Not a place for a full size SUV nor a pickup truck. Shiny floors, clean, freshly painted walls, bright lights, with large expanses of windows, and cathedral ceilings, like in a warehouse. Lights in the frozen section glass turn on with motion detectors. Shopping carts are smaller than those of other supermarkets, to discourage the homeless from using them. Nob Hill is known for their high quality of produce, particularly fruits, although it is too early in the season for cherries, nectarines and peaches, due to long bouts of cold weather in May. This store is very compact, and has limited selection of items. I was looking for the $5 for 89 ounces of Simply Orange, high pulp, but they only had the low pulp and regular pulp variety They have a hot foods ready to eat section at $8.99 per pound. Mexican food and American foods, and pasta with chicken. I was tempted to get the ribs, which was a better deal than the fried chicken. But the wife doesn't care for the bbq sauce, and you know who wears the pants in the house! Place has a number of self check out lanes, but we get in one of only 4 manned check out lanes. Everything goes slowly, with an elderly lady digging in her purse looking for a credit card. No express line. We pay for our goods, along with the $10 coupon off $35 minimum purchase, excluding alcohol. Use my cell phone to calculate the purchases up to the penny. Was charged $42.45, when the real charge should have been $36.08 before discount. Drove home and found the discrepancies, after putting away the frozen food. We were charged $6.71, $6.71, $6.96, and $5.99 respectively for four items sale priced at $5 apiece Monday only -see picture. Drove 24 minutes round trip to get my $6.37 overcharge. Manager said this was the fifth time today someone overcharged on Monday only sale. Apparently they cannot fix the pricing glitch in the computers from this site, but only from corporate headquarters. Prices higher than Safeway, Sprouts, Lucky but it you can afford to live in the next door $3200 to $4400 per month 5 story Monticello Apartments, which opened up in August 2016, you can afford Nob Hill. read more

Today I went to my local nob hill in Santa Clara. This store has come a long way in the past year. Everything is always clean from the produce to the deli. The staff is always very helpful and always greets you with service that is hard to find these days. Everything is always easy to find. The cashiers are also always amazing to checkout with. The wine selection is a gem. I met a manager Natalie and she had to be the nicest and most helpful leader they have had in years here. Great communication and knowledge. As a shopper I'm lucky to find a great store to shop at . It's very convenient and nice to find what I'm looking for when I need it asap. read more

Very clean and organized with competitive prices. Not as cheap as say Safeway, but not as expensive as Whole Foods. Comparable to Sprouts. A pretty decent sized location with a lot of baked goods and all kinds of other things. They also have Hibiki whiskey which is something you don't often find anywhere! Staff is friendly and they have a self check out, which always makes things faster. The day of the cashier seems to be dwindling. Either way, a good grocery place. Finally!!! A Nob Hill supermarket opens close to me. Personally I prefer this store as the groceries tend to be better and fresher even though it can be a little more expensive. I parked and went inside and tadaaa!! It was a little smaller than other similar stores so I wasn't sure I could find everything I wanted. The staff seems a little young and inexperienced. I was looking for saffron and the young man helping me did not know what it was. He had to call it in before we could locate it. All in all I am glad to find a Nob Hill store near my home. Nob Hill has quickly become my go-to store when I need a few items. Little by little I find I'm going there more than Trader Joe's, because it's closer and I have an easier time with parking. I also prefer it to Safeway because it's smaller and it feels like I can get in and out without making a huge production of it. The store looks great, and is very clean. I love the selection of prepared foods, and there's a Peet's coffee and some good desserts. You also have the option to eat there if you want (from the prepared foods bar), though I've never done that. I like the atmosphere and the size. Mostly the reasonable size. Where I come from in the midwest, it is near impossible to find a grocery store smaller than several acres or football fields. I'm talking gigantic, like to the point that I am sometimes exhausted just thinking of going. Forget running in for just milk, because you have to go all the way to the back and just walk, walk, walk. Such a pain. I absolutely love this "small" store (by today's standards it's small, but to me that is a good thing). There is still plenty of selection. I don't need 50 kinds of pasta sauce, you know? The prices aren't bad. I expected it to be higher but mostly it's very competitive to other stores. Organic milk is less than Safeway, giving me another motive to go here instead when I run out of milk and need "just a few other things". My only complaint so far is that they don't have the largest selection of produce. Two things I'd have liked to see recently but didn't were regular coleslaw made with cabbage--better yet, some prepared coleslaw all dressed with mayo would be convenient--and organic grapes. I don't know if organic grapes are hard to get right now, but I have not seen them here and would like to. Also, I'm not sure what's up with the people striking outside of Nob Hill all the time. Something about they don't pay enough. I wish management would take care of that so I don't have to feel guilty when I go in for some Ben & Jerry's and bread. read more

An update on my review : The protestors are back and the store is overrun with non-service dogs. I've watched employees play with them. Tonight there were five dogs in the store, all clearly people's pets. The store needs to add signage to the doors indicating their policy. Employees do not even challenge people bringing dogs in nor do they restrict them from being around the hot bar or any open air food. Dogs can be seen in the bar areas as well. Competitor stores in the area (Safeway, Whole Foods) have started enforcing their policies about no pets in stores, service dogs only. Emotional Support Animals are not considered service dogs under the ADA, and are not permitted. That is a law and Nob Hill should adhere to it for the health and safety of their customers instead. read more

Been looking forward to this store opening for YEARS!!! Without going into detail about everything...this is what made me write this review. And for this reason ONLY! The one thing that stuck with me... They are offering these cute lil to go carts that make easy convenient shopping...and getting your groceries home. How sweet, right?!?! NOT. Only a direct offer to the people living in the complex that houses the Nob Hill. From someone who lives directly across the street, a homeowner, I take offense to your little closed, exclusive offer!!!!! For someone who is and has been a part of this neighborhood for the last 15 yrs...who basically welcomed you into our neighborhood and so patiently waited for your arrival. Lame. So lame. The convenience is not worth leaving the prices at Safeway anyway. Keep your lil orange cart for your exclusive neighbors. Edit: Crying?? I love this place! I'm more of a Whole Foods gal but stepping into this newly opened (like today!) Nob Hill means more Nob for sure! Yes it just opened so that's why it's beautiful inside but I definitely see a sense of pride in this Team's business. The selection is awesome, quite a line of brands. I purchased a cheese plate and tabouleh box and it was very tasty. They've got a bakery onsite and hello, beer on tap and a bar that serves wine. No butcher but a great selection of meat if that's what you need. Produce galore and they even have a selection of floral arrangements. You need a toothbrush or some cough meds, they've got it! The store is located at the Monticello Apartment Homes which is beautiful in itself so if you're wondering where on Monroe, keep an eye out for the uber clean, giant apartment complex. There's no place similar in close radius so this will definitely be my go to for grocery and food eats. read more

Caveat emptor Isn't that Latin for "Check your Receipt"? As a retired person who loves and wants to remain in the area I watch my expenses. While on a recent shopping trip I noticed that the cashier rang up a different type of apples that were more expensive. When I pointed it out the cashier apologized and thanked me for pointing it out. When I arrived home I noticed that I had been charged for two of a produce item that was clearly visible as a single item. I went back to the store and the person up front took care of the mistake. When she needed that store manager to open the register to pay me I was surprised to see the lady who made the errors do the authorization. LOVE, LOVE this store but will be on my toes and suggest similar vigilance. read more

I'm so sad to report this place continually goes down hill, seemingly by the day. They almost never have in stock what I am looking for; and if they do I realized I have to be vigilant about expiration dates, because I have found things that are months past the safe to eat date. And good luck getting a rotisserie chicken, they seem to never be in stock, I have tried on my lunch break, after work, before work, they seem to never have them. Great, friendly customer service! They give the feeling of a small town neighborhood market. It's super easy to run in and grab a few things as there is ample parking and plenty of self-checkouts as well as regular checkout. Prices are higher than Walmart or Costco or Trader Joe's, but still reasonable. When you sign up for rewards and enter your number at checkout you get personalized coupons sent in the mail. Nob Hill is officially open ! What a beautiful market , the bakery and deli is awesome. The desserts and breakfast pastries are outstanding and the deli case is just beautiful, so many different and colorful dishes on display, as well as an excellent walk up salad and hot bar. I frequent this store several times a week for the salad bar and you grab groceries. This has been a great edition to our neighborhood. Last night my friend and I went for our first wine tasting. It was an enjoyable experience and we will definetly be back. Oooh the new grocery spot at Monticello is now open! I've been looking forward to making a trip there to see whether or not I can make it my go-to grocery spot. Once you come in, the open layout and high ceiling make it seem roomier and more welcoming. The decor and theme looks industrial modern, which to me is very attractive. Their bakery looks great as well, providing numerous options for my boyfriend's sweet tooth. I also like that they have lunch boxes made in house. I'll definitely try those to take to work. They have a good variety of items though not as extensive as Whole Foods. They did have sales when I went yesterday, so this Nob Hill would be great on the wallet as well. The products here are varied, and the store is quite nice. They have a orange juice machine which is quite nice. While their deli is really well priced and tastes good, the service is atrocious. Good luck getting your sandwich in a reasonable time, even if you call in advance to place an order. Also they should maybe hire a barista who knows how to make coffee. read more

This review is a shout to the Bakery Department. To one special employee who's Customer Service was 5 Star Over and beyond on helping me the customer. Early 7:30 morning on a Thursday I needed to bring a 1/2 sheet Cake to work for the Owners and employee Birthday. Of course I didn't pre order anything and driving around Santa Clara expecting to find a suitable fresh cake was looking dim. I stop by Safeway nothing except a small cake cooked last week. Nob Hill has been my on my way to work grocery store and when they have there awesome weekly adds special sale items they seriously draw me in. Love the new, clean inviting store area. I came in kinda stressed out looking at the cakes on display not seeing what I needed. I ask for some help by one Awesome employee "Dalinna" !! Not only did she listen to my needs but offered a solution. I ask if I ask to bake it today can it be done by 11:00am. So I can pick it up for work. She said her Bakery department can do !! Usually they have orders but this morning was available to bake my cake. My order was white cake with strawberry filling, lite a fluffy white topping. This whole situation just got so much better not only did I get my cake but a fresh bake one to boot. 11:00 am came around I picked it up for my work. My shop and Birthday girls were happy So this last not is to the manager of Nob Hill. Dalinna is awesome!!! She brings back excellence in service.
