THEIR DELI: Okay the fried chicken deals on Monday nights -they are good and very popular- albeit greasy. And for some fried products, it seems they may be using a heavy, reddish-color soybean or cottonseed oil; it's really cheap tasting whatever it is and it is a recent change. For the packaged deli food/dinner products, I've twice had food poisoning here. THIER VEGES: why don't they ever have decent produce here? Even local WA state apples seem bruised -not so good. I visited this location again like I have been quite often for the past year. Today will be the last time. I'm not sure what is wrong with some of the customer service associates (not all) but it's blatant ignorance at this point. The older, short white woman who usually is in charge of the self checkout, is always rude and intolerant. She literally will only greet customers with her skintone. Sad but true. Today, she came to assist me because a box of Mary's Crackers that I was trying to scan, wouldn't scan and she said she would have to go get another box. I was in a rush so I told her nevermind, and that it was fine. I then proceeded to have issues with my debit card working. This is the 3rd time this has happened with their self checkout. My card is fine, and it always has sufficient funds however, this older associate always talks to me as if I was a child. I'm a middle aged woman of color, who has a profession. She then proceeded to hover around me pretending that she was fixing plastic bags that were already neat. She was watching me even though she has seen me plenty of times before. Another reason not to shop at this store. When I went to check out, the wand was gone and I was told they had all been removed. On my way out of the store, I ran into one of the checkers who is often helpful. I asked if I could give some feedback to management and said since I am 73 and have a shoulder injury lifting everything out of the cart and lifting it all back is painful. She said they took out the wands because people were shoplifting. I said half the time no staff was available in the self check-out and they could solve the shoplifting problem by having staff present and watching. She absolutely shined me off. They so clearly don't value their customers. read more

While I'm not too crazy all the time about this Albertsons (particularly because produce is so expensive), there are a few things I can appreciate. From their cheap cheap chicken Monday deals to these Monopoly games, I have to say, I've become crazy thrifty when it comes to cutting down on my grocery bill! With my instant winner monopoly tickets I was able to nab some free donuts, bagels, eggs, seltzer water, and aspirin! Hands down the worst grocery store I have ever been to in my life. Every time I enter this store, I am reminded how little Safeway thinks of its customers. The grocery store is near my home, so the idea is it's a convenient way to pick up a few things after work, but every time I leave Safeway I feel like I lost a quart of plasma. Told the cashier "Mark" that I needed to get cash back with my purchase. I explained it had been awhile since I had done it. Mark had his phone earpiece in his ear and was having a conversation while working checkout. I think it was a work convo -- he was saying another employee didn't know how to do their job. I looked at him asked what keys to press next. Looked past me. I did not get my cash back. He sort of shrugged and handed me my receipt. On 12/3/2019 I was profiled by the AM store manager. I hate saying that but it's true. I have seen him profile others in the store through out the two years of going. It seems they have some sort of system internally and " code"when they announce that they need to start following someone in the store. I only go here when I need a couple items after work. It's overpriced, has a limited selection, and don't have enough lanes open. They do have self checkout but when you get a lot of people who don't know what they're doing, that can be just as long of a wait... Even the staff seem miserable here. Except for the guy who works in the alcohol section. He's awesome! And so is their wine/beer selection! Only redeeming quality. read more

Still shopping here. In the last year they updated the entire store and really updated the produce section. Like all stores the sale price is still the best way to go. Be sure you get the app or sale sheet. Pharmacy here is nice and efficient. Products in that are are slightly higher priced unless on sale. Dairy section is slightly limited due to space as are other areas of the store. They do manage to cram a lot in the space, so you can usually find what you want. I don't shop meat here much as I prefer to know country of origin, but they do have organically produced meat. The seafood selection is better than past and no smell (as in fresh and maintained). Large selection of beer, wine etc. The deli is much improved, but no Chinese as they don't have the space. Chicken -yes and the ready to eat or cook area has expanded. The Bakery is still hard to get service at, you may need to ask at the deli. I rarely come early mornings so that may be the issue. I love Albertsons. This location has many great employees that make I worth while. The produce is always displayed well with good selection.

The positive comments, up front. -Employees are generally quite friendly and competent. The produce section is great, mainly because of the hard-working folks in that department. -The Starbucks workers are friendly, always have a kind word, and make coffee as good as a Starbucks store. -The checkers are generally speedy, polite, and competent also. Now the bad. -They got rid of Apple pay. -They got rid of their self check out registers. -They say they got rid of self check out because of shoplifting. Interesting that the Safeway two miles away still has it (Safeway owns Albertsons I believe). -Pretty much now anytime you go to the store, you are going to have to wait in a long line. Many of the patrons seem to pay with a check. Who writes checks anymore??? Some see oblivious to the long line waiting, deciding to reconcile their checkbook while writing their check!! I used to be able to run in, buy a few things and be out of the store in five minutes. No longer. One of the pharmacy please is both rude and incompetent. She will often argue with you, or tell you your insurance won't cover your medication. read more

I will start by saying I love cake. Having said that, I buy cake slices from the bakery at Safeway several times a week. I do not understand why their cakes are always so dry. They look terrific but OMG the taste does not match the look! Very dry cake and the frostings are too sweet. Would appreciate a little attention to the baking if you intend to continue to sell cake items. Up your game a little and you would have a customer for years. read more

I wake up early...okay, not that early to come here on Saturday or Sunday mornings to beat the crowd. I love how friendly the staff is, especially the deli and produce guys. They make you feel welcomed. Always a great selection of fresh veggies, makes me pick up more than what was on my list. Also love the wine selection. The prices are great and don't make me display my lovely duck lips from the shock of seeing something I think is over priced. Weird that the dairy section is in two different locations. I thought cheese was considered a dairy product, but you'll find it three or four aisles away from the milk products. Oh well, they should reorganize the entire store since so many things seem out of place. The prices for groceries may be a little more expensive, but my shopping experience here is always pleasurable. read more

Problem: Albertson grocery scanner overcharge. We have lived in the same neighborhood for over 40 years and go to the Albertsons on Steilacoom Blvd for all these years. Over the past 5 years or so, I keep finding on my receipt recurring overcharges due to scanner errors mostly on sale items that are not registered. Just in the past year, I have gone to Customer Service over 20 times to file complaint and get my money back for the difference. Recently over the past two months, I even insisted on talking to the manager instead of just the clerk but got the assistant manager Steven instead since Dwanyne the manager is not in. Steven has witness my complaint of 3 separate incidence of overcharges on a multiple list of items on my receipts each time it happened. This is just in the past 2 months or so. He informed me that he has discussed this with the manager and yet nothing has been done to correct the problem. Each time the errors resulted in about $5+ overcharge on multiple occasions. Over a course of a year if you shop 2 or 3 times a week, the overcharges really adds up! I find on Google where LA Times reported that "A judge has ordered Albertsons supermarkets to pay $1.85 million to settle accusations that the chain's computer scanners overcharged customers across California for groceries. Albertsons was order to institute a policy in which any item for which the scanner overcharges must be offered to the customer for free." Albertsons is doing the same thing in WA. They are profitting from scanner overcharges. What really upsets me is that Albertsons pretends that this is a minor incident when in reality it happens regularly especially on sale items posted in weekly circular ads where they get a lot of purchasers. If these are truly minor incidents then Albertsons need to institute a policy in which any item for which the scanner overcharges must be offered to the customer for free. Right now, everytime that I find an error, I have to wait in line at the customer service desk (5minutes) and go through the process of getting my money back and only the difference (5 minutes). It's 10 minutes wasted on trying to just correct the situation. It works for Albertsons becaue most don't want to deal with it so they profit from the error without penalty! It's so WRONG! Corrective Action: Correct scanner overcharge errors and institute a policy in which any item for which the scanner overcharges must be offered to the customer for free. By self-penalizing in terms of offering free merchandise for scanner errors made, it will impact the business bottomline, and only then, will the company show good faith to really correct its problem. It'll also bring attention to the corporation as a whole when individual store's profitability is declining because of self-penalization and the corporation will be made aware of the inadequacies of the store and its store manager to fix the problem. I have filed complaint with BBB, WA. State Attorney General's Office, WA. State Dept. of Agriculture, and Albertsons Corporation. Please file a complaint as well and maybe we can change the greedy corporate Albertsons!!! (now Safeway.) read more

This Albertson's is a staple in Lakewood/Steilacoom. It's been around since I was a small kid growing up in the area and it still is one of the many places in town that you will run into someone that you know. It's an average Albertson's which finally got re-modeled in the past few years. They still push the 10 for $10 deal which they are notorious for but depending on the deal; it is not always a great price. read more

This is the 2nd time I've been in to order a sandwich from the new sandwich station in the deli. I waited both times for SEVERAL minutes before someone even acknowledged me even though I was the only person in line. It is like pulling teeth to get anyone to even acknowledge you when you're standing at the counter! It's like they avoid making eye contact hoping you'll go away. The first time they were out of tomatoes and somehow, even though they're a grocery store couldn't get me more. This time they're out of mustard. You're a grocery store......! My sandwich took over 20 minutes to make because the bar was not stocked and the associate (Kimberly, very rude) had to slice the meats and cheese and veggies (they were also out of most of the veggies). She seemed very annoyed at having to perform this particular function of her job. I almost just walked away midway through her making it. Why have a sandwich bar if you are not going to stock it or staff it with people who actually know how to help customers? When I asked a deli worker who the manager was, he told me he didn't know.......? Honestly, the deli here is awful. read more

The name of the store may come and go but the friendly staff will always remain. We've been coming to this Albertsons for years, even when it became Hagens for a short period of time and we are always pleased with the friendly staff. Unfortunately, they took away the fresh sushi they use to serve which was their selling point for me personally. Now we go for the convenience and friendly staff. Parking is usually easy to find, never really busy in my opinion. The prices are a little on the steep side if money is an issue. It's a good store if you need only a few items. So this is my least favorite store in the area, but end up stopping in here often due to their location. Their prices are higher than their competitors unless you shop only sale items. Since being remodeled their wine/beer selection has improved significantly and they always have a good selection of produce. To the store manager at Albertson's on Steilacoom Boulevard in Lakewood Washington. Today at check out the checker and bag boy were carrying on a conversation about their movie series that they were into. We were simply the customer standing there waiting for our groceries to be rung up and unfortunately the checker could not run the groceries through very fast because he was so involved in his personal conversation. Then when he was finally finished he handed me the receipt and said "there you go" and I said thank you to which he responded aha aha. Sometimes I don't feel like the checkers care if customers come in or not and forget that we are the reason that they have jobs. But, saying this --it is just simply common courtesy to say thank you. Why don't people acknowledge that more. Maybe it would be a better world. Customer service is really lacking and this is a simple opportunity to make it much better and it costs nothing. read more

Do NOT buy fish or crab from their seafood department. TWICE now they have lied to me about the freshness of their product -especially the crab. Friday the 24th I bought a whole Dungeness crab and it was bad!. I specifically ask the pretty black lady with the long curly hair if the crab had been previously frozen, "no" she says, it is "fresh"..yeah right - "freshly thawed"!!!!!! She LIED to me. The meat was brown, mushy and had absolutely no taste. I was ticked off, and should have gone right back with it, but I thought - shame on me for letting them fool me twice, so I threw it away. I will NEVER buy fish, crab, etc from them again. And I recommend you do the same. I would give zero for rating if I could. read more

I am not going to rant about the store. The store itself is just what a grocery store should be. What's absolutely terrible is the fact that they advertise precooked meals such as a ham dinner or a turkey dinner. We thought we would try this for Thanksgiving ( quick and easy right) wrong. They say to order early so we did. They advertise a quick heat and eat meal. We arrived to pick up our meal and everything is frozen, including the 12 pound turkey. I correct my self the dinner rolls we not frozen. I looked at the ads and online no mention of this. Buyer beware if it sounds to easy it's not. Watch your totals when the items are being rung up! Almost every week items ring up at the wrong price or the cashiers make mistakes and ring up extra. When you try to correct them they argue with you and then you need to go to customer service to get it fixed. We live close by and have shopped there for years, even when it was Hagens but since the change back to Albertsons the problems have begun and the staff are surly. I try to avoid confrontation but I am tired of the attempted rip offs. I'm done with them, stay away is my advice. read more
