This Safeway rocks, the guys in the produce area are really cool and they make really good sandwiches at this location. I eat on campus quite a bit but get all my produce here to make juice at home. It's one of the better Safeways I think. read more

Worst place ever. Used to be quick and easy check out, but they removed 4 self service lanes in place of two 15 item or less lanes. So expect to wait in line. To top it off, I went in buy some dinner and a bottle of vodka and cashier refused to accept my ID, or my passport card. I was deployed when my ID expired and my state sent me a certificate of extension, my passport card has the normal wear and tear of travel. I've used this these ID's consistently HERE AT THIS STORE and elsewhere in town without issue until now. Thanks for ruining my Sunday Safeway. btw, Fry's down the street had no issue accepting my ID, they even thanked me for my service. read more

I've been shopping at this Safeway for the better part of 8 years now and say what you want about Fresh & Easy and Trader Joe's, this Safeway is the best damn grocery store out there. It's just one of those places where you're never asking yourself why they don't call out more cashiers. You're never stuck at the register behind a soccer mom with a full cart and three kids in tow, it's just the frat boy with the 12 pack of beer in one hand and a bag of ramen in the other, or that Indian guy with a few bags of vegetables, and they sail right through. And even if there is the occasional shopper with a full cart paying with an out-of-state check, it's not an issue, because there are 6 other registers open. You don't stand there hopelessly for 10 minutes while they call for a backup cashier over the PA system, because the backup was never hiding in the office to begin with. They were out there the whole time. Oh, and it's the infamous Hot Chick Safeway. I didn't even realize that it was actually called that until I saw it on Yelp, but it's very true and that would be worth a few stars alone. read more

I mean, it's a Safeway. It's fine here. The produce section is pretty good, as is the bakery. While it's not the cheapest grocery option, it's the closest one to my house, which makes it convenient. Unfortunately it's also the closest grocery to to ASU, so there are a lot of student shoppers (read: people checking out with a 30 pack of Bud Light and 6 boxes of Easy Mac). It's packed on the weekends, especially Sunday evenings, so avoid coming at those times if you can. The service is friendly and the checkout lines move pretty well. Random story: I was shopping here once during one of the haboobs and it was so windy that a little tree from one of the "landscaped" areas got blown over into my car while I was pulling into the parking lot. That was weird. My car was fine but I felt bad for the tree...There are so few here in Arizona, it must be tough for them to lose one of their own. read more

A good, commercial supermarket near Arizona State - also fairly close to Mesa Community College. During our visit, it was nice to see a familiar business where we could buy groceries and have an understanding of what they had and what I could expect. I felt comfortable and welcome. The staff members were friendly and everything was laid out well - clear. This supermarket has pretty much everything you could need... including a good organic section. read more

The *ONLY* reason i shop here is because in an emergency it is across the street from my house.. i usually have bad experiences here with customer service and other shoppers. This store is always busy with college kids because it's 2 blocks away from ASU, maybe that's why the customer service is sub par. I have been accused of shop lifting because I brought my son and stroller in the store... I have had a cart full of groceries lock up mid shopping trip and nobody was able to help me because they couldn't find the key... so i had to transfer ALL of my groceries and a screaming child to another cart. I have bought expired yogurt here as well (that was my bad for not checking the dates). The only good thing about this place is the sushi bar and the friendly sushi lady. She makes amazing sushi and is always happy to make you a special roll or two. I will drive the extra mile to go to Frys where the customer service is awesome, friendly, and always willing to help out. read more

It was a very upsetting experience at Safeway last Saturday. I was trying to get some beer that night and everything was fine until I was about to pay. After checking my ID, the cashier suddenly starred at the exit and said "they are waiting for you." (it was a declarative sentence not even a question!) I was like who is waiting for me so I turned around and saw there were two Asian students who have the similar age as me, were standing in front of the exit and checking with their phones (probably waiting for their uber). The cashier assumed I was buying alcohols for them... Then I responded to the cashier and said " I do not know them" and she insisted they were with me a few times because I'm also an Asian. I keep denying and obviously she thought I was lying..I felt extremely shocked that she made assumptions based on my race. (Her understanding is because we are both Asian so we must be together) A lady who stood behind me heard our conversation and said to me" she is definitely stereotyping you." I felt very demoralized and upset because how could the cashier make assumption and being so judgmental because of the races of the customers. How could she group customers together only with their races? That's ridiculous, I don't think I'm treated with respect and courtesy as a buying customer. In all of my years in the East Valley, this is one of my favorite stores to hit purely for eye candy. The 'Hot' Safeway always offers some great people watching. Hit this place on Halloween and you are likely to see college women in panties and bras - Halloween 'costumes'. And they sell water here. I really like water. read more

It's called "Babeway" for a reason people... But I go here for the Deli, they have the best panini. I like to stop in for the 3 cheese panini with mustard and tomato. It's also a good choice to pair up with the Italian wedding soup. read more

I only go to this grocery store if I'm in need of a quick food item since it is within walking distance from my apartment. Last night I purchased a 4 pack of craft beer from the store for the first time. Like expected, I was asked to show ID, which I happily did. I am 21 and have nothing to hide. Next thing I knew though, I had to hand write my name, my signature, the date, and my driver's license number on this random notepad the cashier had. I was casually talking to the person in line behind me since I knew them and ran into them in the store... the cashier made them also show ID and sign this notepad. I asked why I had to sign the document and I was met with, "we are near ASU. If you don't like the policy just go somewhere else", in a very rude tone from the cashier. Last time I ever buy alcohol there. It is a valid question to ask this since I have never seen it before. Almost every time I go here, I am met with a rude or angry employee. read more

I rarely go here, but when I do its usually for flowers. Their floral section is great. everything looks really nice, and they seem to have a different selection than other grocery store florists. I always feel like the aisles of this Safeway are closing in on me, like theyre way too overstocked and their ad signage is too low. Its very strange. read more

I simply came in to Safeway to fill a script. I had never been here before. The pharmacist was extremely friendly and was able to fill my scripts that day. He asked if I had any shopping to do while he filled them and that he would send me a text when they were ready. The service was a smooth transaction. I ended up transferring all of my scripts to safeway. These guys are on it. Garrett, in the pharmacy, gives you the old fashioned experience that you expect in a pharmacy. The meat department is normally very helpful, but sometimes you get a person who has no idea how thick to cut certain meats, so make sure you check them. They take comments very seriously, so make sure you have a good reason to leave a note for the manager-like if you had especially good or dismal service. The prices are not as high as an "organic" store and not as cheap as a farmers market...they're in the middle. Mostly why I like this store is because it's so close to ASU that you don't even need to take the bus, you can walk there. And it's got a very wide variety of foods, unlike stores that are actually ON campus. Oh, and it's a lot cheaper than campus stores, too! read more

I ordered groceries to be delivered to my brother between 8 and 9 am this morning. It is now 1:30 pm and the delivery is still sitting in the store. They say there is nothing they can do as they rely on 3rd party drivers. If they truly have no control over the delivery process, they should stop advertising delivery at certain hours. Everyone is very apologetic and I know these are hard times, but this is very poor customer service. read more

The store manager called me the next day and explained that this was not the way to treat customer and promised the said team member would hear from him. So I just wanted to shed some light on my favorite place to grocery shop!! This particular location has NEVER, not one time, let me down in customer service. The cashiers are as friendly as butterflies and are always so sweet. Tonight I had done all my regular shopping and was unloading my cart so I could check out but I forgot deodorant & sparkling cider!! The cashier Michael was so nice and was like "yeah no problem go get it and we will start unloading for you" I was like wow that's bomb. So off I went! This Safeway has great selection on a lot of products - it has its own pharmacy, that is almost functions as a stand-alone. On Saturdays, you can use your student ID for a 10% discount and wait time is generally pretty decent. The clerks are very friendly and there are a lot of services within this location, like a Wells Fargo, StarBucks, and a huge selection of liquor. read more

Their make your own sandwich counter is amazing!!! I ran in before work for some kombucha + naked juice before work with plans of another airport lunch, when I noticed this awesome little counter set up in the deli. The girl at the counter was very friendly and patient with my pickiness witch says a lot! They had at least 5 bread choices + wrap options! Many protein choices,(I chose grilled chicken), lots of toppings including ARTICHOKE HEARTS, PESTO, guac, and many more! For about 5.50, I was blown away:). One suggestion is maybe add sprouts, even though with all other options, they weren't missed! I'll be back soon!:) read more

well, it doesn't seem very fun to review a grocery store, but this one is infamous. because of its proximity to ASU, it's often called the "hot chick" safeway - no joke. it used to be open 24/7, but i think it now closes by 12 a.m. and there are always lots of co-eds, usually newbie college freshman shopping together (you can tell they're freshman because they haven't yet realized that shopping wtih roommates for food is a terrible idea). and i agree, they're all very cute in that typical "college" way. and it's always refreshing to see kids dressed up to go out, just picking up a back up bottle of vodka for the after party on a monday or tuesday night. ha ha, in fact, last night while shopping for a Valentine's dinner meal, my boyfriend and I giggled at the frat boy who was inspecting cards while holding a handle of jim beam in one hand and a heart-shaped box of chocolates in the other... his girl is one lucky lady... to get to the point, the co-ed factor and busyness of this place kept me away from it, choosing instead to shop at the next closest store, fry's on mill and southern. ok, let me tell you Fry's is a dump; it's dirty, dingy, it smells funny and their veggies are gnarly. hot chick safeway is clean, bright and they have super friendly staff, who are always willing to help you find something or tell you how to broil a steak cause it's raining out and you're screwed for your valentine's grilled steak dinner idea. it's a tad more expensive than Fry's but totally worth it, not for eye candy, (but that's great if you're a 19 to well, 70-year old guy) but for the better service and better facility, and they always have killer deals on things like frozen pizzas and snacks cause, well, what else do college kids eat? read more

Tried to order grocery delivery for the 1st time. Set up a 4 hr delivery window from 11 to 3 pm the next day. Get a call from the driver around 11 that he is running late due to tire issue. Thats fine. never hear anything else so i call him back at 3 now he's saying hes not going to deliver my order yada yada. Will have to redeliver maybe next day. Bs. I call customer service and now driver not answering phone, store that delivery was from noone answer. Wow. Customer service might call back if they decide to deliver my order tonight. Clean store. Deli wait is absolutely ridiculous. I have expressed to the store multiple times about the wait for the deli. Nothing has changed i still find myself spending most of my trip to safeway waiting to be helped at the deli section. The cashiers are friendly and always advertise what days they have sales and what days they have student discount. I would like to see an improvement in the deli. read more

I know, I know, the people in my life are tired of me saying this but honestly, our local Safeway is full of the nicest people. I go at all hours and on many different days and it's always the same: nice, clean, helpful, funny, nice, clean, smart ... did I mention nice? Today I went because I HAD to get some stuff and I was in seven layers of pain and from the minute I walked in the door to when I left I had great people helping me and making me smile through it all. I got to talk to a manager to let him know but it just doesn't seem good enough. Thank you Meat Department Power Rangers. Thank you beyond kind check out guys. Whoever the closing manager on 4/15/2017 was, I must say rubbed me the wrong way. Rude, seemed like he hated his job and hated being there. Shoed me out the door 6 minutes before they were officially closed, telling me that they had closed. I'll be going to Whole Foods from now on. I don't usually shop at Safeway, but they have a SRP pay box there. My experience at the store was fine, it was the produce that I brought home that have me turning my nose of ever shopping here again. Mind you I only buy a weeks worth of groceries at a time, so I used everything the week I bought it( or intended to) first was the bag a mini sweet peppers, more than half had mold in the center and some in the middle of the bag where already decomposing, grape tomatoes turned squishy and almost black, lastly I bought 3 small yams one of which turned mushy and juicy VOMIT. This is my first ever bad review, I am the first to give the benefit of the doubt, but I just am horrified. I buy fresh produce every week, and I have never had so much of it go bad so quickly, it's clear to me that this location is not offering a fresh selection and has no integrity in their product. Without diving in to my personal life story, I would like to briefly mention that I got married last year with literally not an ounce of cooking knowledge. In the past few months, my husband and I have really buckled down and have avidly avoided eating out or getting take out. So we decided to cook. And cook we do! We come to this Safeway every week like clockwork to stock up on food for the rest of the week. I have found that they have nearly everything we need, save a couple ingredients we may need to grab at the Whole Foods down the street. It has become such a blessing to be so close to a store like this one. It is clean, fully stocked, organized, and the customer base is typically young, laid back, and non-threatening to a small girl like me. This is the first time in my whole life that I confidently feel at home in a grocery store. I can navigate those aisles like nobody's business, and they are always in tip top shape. I would love to give this location five stars, but I have found too often that the produce (particularly fruit) is either moldy, too ripe, or overall not very good when I bring it home. I also think that some of the customer service could use a little boost in morale, although in many cases the customer service is pretty doggone good for a grocery store. Another word of warning: this location can get VERY busy. I don't mind it, though, because I quite like the bustling atmosphere. This Safeway has seen my husband and me through a great transition in our lives, and because of it, I actually look forward to our weekly shopping trips. read more

Before shopping at this Safeway take into consideration that this is the closest grocery store to ASU and all of it's student housing. It is constantly busy, and it's busy with college students. With that being said Playboy, just a few years ago, ranked this as one of their top 10 places to meet someone of the opposite sex. It is great for people watching as you'll usually see kids dressed for themed parties. As you can imagine this store has tons of booze, a great wine selection, a large produce selection, and all the other items one would find in a grocery store. Inside they also have a full service Wells Fargo Bank with multiple ATMS, and a Starbucks. Starbucks actually has reserved spaces if your just swinging in to get a coffee on the far East side of the parking lot. read more

Worse Safeway in the Valley. Terrible customer service, not one cashier is ever engaged with customers, managers are oblivious or don't care, the store is dirty. Handicapped scooters. are broken dangerous and never charged for customers use. Self checkout is a joke, the staff ignores people fighting to use it. Overall this store is horrible and the prices are NOT saving anyone any money! This is the closest grocery store to my house and after multiple unsatisfactory visits I drive farther to Frys, Target, even Food City just to avoid shopping here. A real disappointment since I was loyal to my Scottsdale Safeway. I'd recommend ANY other grocery store. read more

It's a grocery store that has crappy customer service. You'd think I could agree with the person talking about its proximity to ASU and how "college students ruin it" or whatever, but that isn't the case at all- it's the staff. I like to go to stores that have self check-outs for the convenience and speed, as usually people opt for the traditional cashier. Well, this Safeway has some rude jerks patrolling their U-Scan. There's this dude with a beard that I encounter 90% of the time. Besides perennially smelling like he forgot to use deodorant, he's always flirting or gossiping with other employees and he acts like his dog knocked something off his table when he has to come help people, which is always with me since I grab the 50% off items and you always have to have a cashier check them in. He just takes the crap, does his duty, and walks away. No "anything else?" or "glad I could help" or "f-you" or anything. My wife had a similar ordeal with him where he disappeared for a cool 10 minutes while he was searching for something for her in the middle of her order, and he didn't even address her or anything when he came back; she had to go to him. The other two people I've had at U-scan have been young women, both as abrupt as the other dude. The one got visibly pissed when I wanted a raincheck, and stomped away to get it as I guess she didn't have them stocked at the U-Scan register. Grow up. I went through a regular cashier station to do an experiment, and they were pretty pleasant. Annoying how I have to waste time in a line to get good service, when U-Scan has to be the easiest position up in the place. That beard guy sucks. read more
