I have a favorite grocery store I frequent but found myself in this area and decided to stop in specifically for soups for a sick friend. #1 Love their employees ! Very important because when I've needed something and didn't initially see it etc....they're always helpful. I've been going there since it opened. Like most grocery stores, they seem to be in 'full swing' between 9am-6pm, meaning every department is open for special cuts of beef, deli, coffee bar, bakery. They have a pharmacy which I think closes at 8pm. Usually they're well stocked, store is pretty clean & I find the pricing generally reasonable. p.s. This is your average grocery store. Nothing more or less. I went early in the morning. The Aisles are clearly marked. The store was clean and well stocked. I got a donut from bakery section, it was delicious. I ordered a pumpkin latte from Starbucks inside, it was tasty. I did a self checkout with my small basket of food. The one employee and the barista appeared disgruntled or defeated not really sure. Otherwise I would stop in again if I was in the neighborhood. read more

Absolute mess of a store, so disappointing because I've been shopping there for years and just recently have run into so many issues. Number one issue being having only 1 checkout lane with a cashier open, no help with bagging, etc. and the Self - Checkout is now limited to 10 items or less so you are forced to go in the one cashier lane. I've even been there when no cashiers were open so I went in the self-checkout (over the item limit) only to be berated by one of the employees about it. They need to hire more employees! read more

I cannot tell you the amount of times I've purchased something from Safeway and that week, at home, found out it was +2 month expired. These people have no respect for their shoppers and clearly do not monitor their supply for safety. I've bottom expired ranch, cream cheese, lunchables. And if you order your groceries ahead for pick up, they go out of their way to give you the stuff that's about to expire. I had 2 separate things of bagels that molded IN TWO DAYS. The store is just fine as a grocery goes Zack one of the managers always has a bright smile and willing to help. Besides Zack the pharmacy is the star of the show! Dan and Jennifer are dedicated, and well versed in their knowledge of pharmacology. As a senior surgeon at Johns Hopkins and a patient of theirs I am in there frequently. Their knowledge and professionalism is outstanding and their interpersonal skills are beyond compare. Both have given me injections and they are superb in their medical skills also. While on a trip visiting Towson and the university, we stopped inside this Safeway to pick up Berger cookies (which, by the way, you much try if you are in Maryland/Baltimore - life changer). Huge parking lot. Clean and well organized supermarket. Friendly staff working there (the lady monitoring the self-check out was funny and nice). There's also a Starbucks inside. Picked up this rotisserie chicken for dinner on 5/28 at around 530, it had just came out from the deli. Came home to find it still very much raw (see pic). Called customer service to let them know as I'm sure many people were picking up rotisserie chicken for their families for dinner and this is clearly unsafe. Great store. Well merchandised for those high profit and high priced impulse items as soon as you enter. Prices are high. Use the Club Card and take advantage of their "Just 4U" online program. Manufacturer coupons can also help. Selection is great. Great store brand program with great quality product. Yes, there are aggressive features impossible to resist. They're higher than most but deals can be had. I recommend Safeway but shop wisely. read more

Save yourself. I don't know what has happened in the last year but this location has gone downhill. The last time I was in there (September 2020) the produce area had fruit flies and an odor. I saw rotten and moldy oranges. The whole place just seemed sad. I actually really like this Safeway location. It's convenient and offers a good selection of food items. It is generally well maintained and well stocked. I will say, however, that the staff - specifically the cashiers - are not very friendly and some will not acknowledge you even after you greet them. This is extremely disappointing considering I purposely visit the cashier to show support and demonstrate my check out preference. With all the new technology and self check outs, I would hate to see that take away from job opportunities. read more

I have been to this Safeway a bunch of times and it really is a last resort when I am in desperate need of something simple... The PRO's -close to where I live -lots of parking -never crowded -plenty of self-check out lanes -fair amount of organic produce -flexible hours of operation The CON's -the employees aren't friendly -if you forget your loyalty card they give you push back and will not offer to look up your information -any natural/organic foods are all mixed in with the general population of foods so it may be challenging to find stuff if they even carry it -bakery goods are at times stale, tasteless and gross -noticed flies in the donut/muffin case -lots of the organic produce is rotting and overpriced -food tends to be more expensive than at other grocery stores in the area Overall, I am really not a fan of this Safeway. The management needs to get on board with employee engagement and get them more focused on being friendly with the customer as that is the only reason you can come in and punch that time card anyway! read more

Sorry, I love Safeway but nothing this one. I've come home empty handed due to not great produce being offered but maybe the worst thing I've had happen here is that I bought vegan mayonnaise that I knew had to be refrigerated on the shelves. I wasn't thinking and bought it, but once I got home and opened it, I realized what had happened. I brought the jar back and told the woman in customer service that the mayo was spoiled and all 200 jars on the shelves were and her response was "I'm not surprised." immmm that's a little strange right? She offered to refund my purchase but that's just about it. If any of us had eaten that we would've been dangerously sick. She couldn't have cared less. I normally love this Safeway so please note this review is about a particular experience I just had at the deli counter. I arrived and the employee behind the counter was clearly wrapping up for the night. I asked "don't you close at 9" and her response was that "it is 9". I looked at my watch and said "it's 8:32". To that she said "it's close enough" and she refused to serve me. Really? Wow! I shop here all the time and find most of the staff friendly but this girl was flat out rude and could care less about turning me away. My recommendation to Safeway is don't put someone in a customer facing role if they are not customer oriented. It reflects badly on everyone else on your team. read more

I seriously can't believe the glowing reviews (especially the one about fresh produce)! I only shop here because of its proximity to my home. The staff isn't particularly nice - though it is about what I would expect from an establishment that doesn't pay very well. The last couple of times I've been there, I've been disappointed with the produce. I bought a box of clementines and about half were spoiled. A waste of time and money. I also bought Gala apples and most ended up being mushy. The last time I bought apples was better, but I noticed that they just put the new apples in with the old (the older apples were room temperature and the newer apples were cold). I just can't believe that they would sell fruit that is clearly substandard. OK - so I can believe it. As far as everything else goes, you can get the same stuff at pretty much any grocery store - and the prices are pretty high. Yes, you can do the coupon thing, but it is a pain in the butt. As far as getting customer service to reimburse me for a coupon that it didn't deduct - really? They send so many coupons that I end up just selecting all of them and have no idea if I got the right price or not. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for any savings I can get, but I am a busy woman and don't have time to keep track of online or offline coupons. So as far as getting a reimbursement from customer service - it just isn't worth my time and I would bet they count on that. read more

This store is nasty because the employees that work there are inner city folks who have no concept of customer service at all. The senior management is no better which is why the store has so many issues. Stale food, flies in the display cases, rotting organic food, food on shelves past its expiration date. Unprofessional staff that yell at each other across the store like you are in some ghetto corner store. People standing around doing nothing while customers wait for service. Cluttered aisles with displays blocking your path to the point you must move their displays. Gift cards that are old or very mixed up. The Pharmacy is really the best thing about this store. The Pharmacist is very professional fun, kind and engaging. The Pharmacist knows how to treat customers and is always a pleasure to deal with. The Safeway meat department is generally good on beef but chicken can be a crap shoot sometimes its awesome and overpriced other times it is cheap and nasty. The overall quality of Safeway food is substandard so I don't buy food there. I go to Safeway to buy toilet paper, detergent and other things I can't get at Trader Joes or Fresh Market. The really weird thing is for such a bad store this Safeway has prices that are higher than Trader Joes and the quality is terrible. There are better quality better run Safeway stores but this is not one of them. The Starbucks in this Safeway never has anything you want to buy. The most common item on offer at this Safeway Starbucks is appollogies for what they don't have today. Going to this Safeway should be your choice of absolute last resort for there is nothing at all to recommend this Safeway beyond a desire to have an inner city ghetto grocery shopping experience in a posh relatively safe suburban store. read more

Despite my hesitation to decry a place for a single unpleasant attribute, this one is bad enough for me to compromise my policy. Though a pretty decent grocery store overall all, the checkout experience is consistently one of the worst I've ever encountered. They never seem to have enough registers open which forces me to the self checkout on a lunch breaks. It is atrocious. Why they haven't demanded a refund from the company that installed these pathetic machines is beyond comprehension. You will NOT get through even a light checkout without multiple problems which require waiting for the overworked attendant's assistance. It constantly accuses you of putting unaccounted for items in the bag, gives the wrong price, asks for assistance for random unknown reasons, it misreads things - especially *anything* on sale, occasionally needs to be told items are on the scale, doesn't recognize items and perhaps 60% of the time at least one station is out of order altogether. The self checkout attendant must be stashing a bottle of hooch somewhere to get through her day. I've stormed out on several occasions - not for spite, but simply running out of time. Bear in mind - this is for a few lunch items. I hate to even imagine checking out a full grocery cart. It's a shame because it's generally a good store close to where I work. They've got great meat and seafood departments and their bakery is one of the best around. Their bagels are at least as good as any bagel shop. They have fantastic meat sales, though I often hesitate since I know the hassle I'll have at checkout with the secondary price tag. It's sad that every good shopping experience is topped off with an aggravating checkout, leaving me frustrated as I leave four out of five times. I would eagerly switch to another store if there was one in range during my break. read more

This store is an absolute nightmare. The meat selection is slim. The produce is the biggest issue, every time I go they are completely out of some staples or all of the item is rotten. Today I wanted to pick up a red onion, the whole carton was rotten, same with shallots. There's probably about 20 stations to pick up the little clear produce bags and maybe 4 in the whole department were stocked. Used self checkout, NIGHTMARE. The machines are so sensitive and you basically have to stop every other item. There was an employee standing at the station to oversee it. It was clear that I was having a hard time and she just stood there and stared. I have never experienced such poor service and carelessness. read more

She was so kind, asked about my day, complimented my hair, she was just all around one of the most wonderful workers I have ever encountered anywhere. I've been coming here for years and love my regular staff. Tonight however, they locked the door BEFORE midnight. A young man was nice enough to let me in as he walked out. The short, young closer called out to me and when I responded she asked me, in utter disbelief, if I'd just come in the out door. I said I had and she said they were closed - at 5 of midnight. I replied by pointing out the time and even KINDLY asking her if she'd mind if I grabbed the one thing I came in for - as if she made the store hours. All I got in response was teeth sucking and eye rolling. It took me less than 30 seconds to get my item out of the third frozen food door in the aisle directly in front of the door I had come in and into her empty line. She glared, said nothing, snatched the money from my hand and glared some more. I would have been fine with leaving it at sarcastically telling her to have a great night but then she just had to stomp away cussing me out. I called out to her asking if she had something she wanted to say to me. She ignored me. Shame, really. This store is minutes from my home, I typically love it in spite of slipping and falling last year. But this little girl with the attitude - NOT OKAY. It's not okay to lock the doors early. If I'd been trying to come in and fill up a cart I'd understand being reminded it's ALMOST closing. But don't cop an attitude with me when it's 5 of and I need one thing 15 yards from where I'm standing. This is not okay. Locking the doors early, her attitude, demanding to know why I came in, sucking her teeth and rolling her eyes, glaring and snatching money, not speaking and then when I was almost gone cussing me out. I'm going to call and I'm going to complain until she is gone from this store. She's fortunate I didn't have my daughter with me or we would have had a confrontation. HORRIBLE experience. Safeway needs to realize their employees CANNOT treat people this way! -- As mentioned, this happened in May. I do need to add that four times over the summer the stores Strawberries were incredibly moldy. Whenever I see this, I pull the container and set it aside so that no customer accidentally buys it. The last time I did this, a store employee demanded to know why is moved the strawberries. When I told him they were moldy he scoffed and said "yeah okay." I replied by telling him to go look. He very clearly didn't believe me. At least when he did go and look he said, "oh. Thanks." Safeway needs to seriously improve its hiring standards. -- Just a month ago while my mother was shopping here an older gentlemen began having some sort of health crisis. Very fortunately for him my mother is in the medical field because Safeway did nothing for him UNTIL they realized an ambulance was being called and they couldn't ignore the issue. My First Safeway Delivery Experience: This was my first time using Safeway's delivery Service and I am really amazed by the INCOMPETENCY of the service. 1st Issue : I placed an order through Safeway App yesterday. I Scheduled the delivery for Wednesday, 9/12/2018; 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. The delivery driver showed up at 2:15pm.  2nd Issue: I would have been ok with the timing, if they delivered the right order. Out of the 10 items ordered only 3 were found to be correct. I did not even receive 7 out of 10 products, I had ordered. Furthermore, whatever item I received were not in right quantity.  For example : I had ordered 8 bananas , I received 5 instead.  3rd Issue: I called the customer service (877-505-4040) and I was placed on hold for several minutes. Next time I called, I put my name on automatic call list. After 12 minutes, I got a call back from Safeway and again; I was placed on hold. After several minutes of waiting, the call got connected but no one spoke on the phone. Instead the call hung up. Finally, I decided to call my LOCAL store. The lady answered the phone told me "this issue is handled by .COM section and she is going to transfer my call to them". And again you guessed it Right........ I was placed on hold and couldn't get in touch with anyone. I called the store again, spoke to the same lady and she told me the person in the .COM section is not available and call again later. I have also sent an email to deliverysupport@safeway.com [its been a few hours and haven't got any response yet] I am posting this on SOCIAL MEDIA to share my experience. I am hoping someone will soon answer my email and refund the amount for the products I didn't receive. Finally, I see the delivery service as the way to save my time. If I have to spend several hours to connect to customer service and track the missing items; this defeats the purpose of using the service. I would like the refund and I won't be using this service again!! read more

I officially give up on Safeway. Not only do you have to have a club card as typical for most grocery stores now, you also have to go online and "load" savings to your card to get the advertised best price. I am willing if that allows me to save on my grocery bills. Bu then when you get to the checkout, the "special" prices frequently do not register. And in the past, when I take the issue to customer service, I have had to "prove" that I actually loaded the special price. So now I not only load the deals, but email copy to myself so I have the required proof at customer service. I find it frustrating to have to take the additional time to visit customer service because of their errors, and then the employees at customer service are rude and not at all helpful. Instead of being apologetic for the mistake, and helping to correct the problem, they argue with you about the price. Yes, I loaded the deal ("here, see the list on my phone"), yes, I purchased the correct size, flavor etc. Shopping and trying to get the advertised prices on groceries should not be this hard. read more
