I have always been a big fan of Safeway. Not this New Year's Eve. My daughter and I went to the Safeway Deli in Turlock for chicken since Pioneer chicken was already closed. The clerk at the deli counter was very unfriendly and acted annoyed by our presence. We ordered the 16 piece. While she was picking out the chicken, I spotted a wing that looked a bit less scrawny and dry than the rest. She acted irritated that I would make such a request and proceeded to mutilate the piece of chicken. I ended up getting about half of a chicken wing. The rest of the pieces were very dry and tasteless. Having worked in retail/customer service positions over that last 35 years or so of my life, I would have to say that this is very poor customer service. I knew we should have gone to KFC. My New Year's resolution is to never buy chicken from this annoyed and irritated woman again. Safeway Turlock's New Year's resolution should be to provide training for their employees to provide excellent customer service! Nothing less is acceptable! read more

Safeway is one of my favorite grocery stores, especially with the just for U deals they have now. However, the customer service of this store is not exactly stellar. Although the cashiers and meat department workers are very friendly and helpful, other departments in the store do not seem to care. The bakery is very rude and acts annoyed if you ask for something. And the deli? Forget it. I don't even bother with it now. I've had four or five bad experiences. These involve waiting forever to get someone to help you, to actively being ignored by two or three workers standing there (and it was nowhere near closing time), and workers acting all huffy when I ask for something that was not readily available. Also, don't come here early in the morning expecting the $5 Friday deals. Most of the items do not seem to be available until later on. read more

Went in for a couple of items like normal, however this time the store was a mess. Boxes everywhere, a makeshift door out of cardboard was used to keep a freezer closed, multiple carts of returns at the front registers which were really an eye-sore. The produce is very hit or miss. last time i picked up some escarole and it was wilted and turning black. I only go to safeway if i absolutely have to for convenience. read more

I've always like the service at Safeway, but this location is probably the worst of all locations I've been to. They're shady. They'd advertise 5 dollar Fridays for all sushi, so you would think it's regular sushi but sold at a discount right? No, the sushi rolls had only rice with only onions on top. I wanted to go back inside the store to show them and demand my money back, but I didn't have time. Safeway is a big corporation. There's no need to do these petty things to save money. Either that or employees working there today tried to steal the fish for themselves. I bought the rolls at about 7 pm today. If you're going to get sushi, make sure you see what you're getting. Do not buy the rolls with onions on top because you could be eating rice and onions only. I hope management addresses this unprofessional borderline theft-like conduct. read more

Safeway here is ok. Stay away from the BATHROOMS. I am a clean freak and there was crap (toilet paper etc) all over the floors and the floors were dirty and wet... YUCK! I will never go to this bathroom again!!! read more

Every single time I go in there to pay for gas or get lotto or coffee you are super sweet and attentive. I never feel like your rushing me or annoyed to have to help me, your always smiling and super helpful. When I am about to walk in to pay for gas I am hoping your working, when I see you I think ...great! he's super nice. I love this Safeway in town. It is so convenient to come here. It is close to Target and other popular spots. I really recommend going on Friday when there are $5 specialty items on sale. Very clean, opened 24 hours and well stocked. read more

Ordered a cake from here, huge mistake. Someone had told me cakes were cheaper here, I guess you get what you pay for. We requested whipped topping on a quarter sheet. The cake looked smaller than a quarter sheet, very thin layers, whip cream tasted weird and the decor on top was distorted. I am going back to the real bakery on Geer Rd next time. read more

I'm a huge fan of Safeway, particularly the Safeway Deli. However, this particular safeway deli in Turlock has quite a character working who is devoted to making sure your sandwich takes at least 30 minutes to create. She'll tell great jokes at your expense, mutter curse words under her breath, roast the hell out of you, and even grab the phone while your talking to a friend and tell him you need to make better friends (no joke this actually happened)- sure it's a great time, but seriously - I don't go to a deli for comedy ... I'd like to grab my delicious sandwich and bounce. read more

I agree with the other reviewer about the bakery in here. I came here to buy a cake for my boyfriend and asked them to put "Happy Birthday Cutie" on it. However, when the young girl handed the cake back to me she said, "Sorry, we're not professional." I looked down to see horrible and sloppy writing on the cake. I just wish they would have told me that the writing wasn't going to come out nice before I asked them to write anything on the cake. I won't be back to this store. read more

This store always has poor checkout service. I always have to wait in line for an extremely long time. Frustrating.

Service at the deli is terrible. Asked for a particular sandwich on the board and the employee didnt even know what came with it. She was also rude about not knowing stating everyone comes in and just tells her what they want. I get making a sandwich can be difficult but at least don't be rude about it. Being completely honest, I will only go to this Safeway if I am in a bind and I'm in the area (I have family and friends in Turlock). About a week ago, I went in to grab a couple things and the checker in the express lane was super rude. No hello, nothing. The only words out of his mouth were complaints to another checker that he wants another job (Yes, I'm serious) and the total for my purchase. Not impressed at all, what so ever. I really enjoy shopping at this store. It's very nice, clean and neat. Gotta love the rewards program. You can earn free sandwiches at the deli, discounts on your gas plus you always get discounts on your groceries. This store also has a deli, bakery and a pharmacy. I always get my gas here. I come here all of the time! I love going to purchase my greens there. However, if you come here never go to the Starbucks!! It is so slow! Every time I go the workers don't acknowledge me or stand there taking ten or more minutes to make one drink. I'm not even joking. Plenty of people have told me that they have had the same problem. Worst Starbucks ever. There is one with a drive thru across the street by Red Robin so go there where the workers aren't slow or lazy. So I've been in here a few times and I have to say the customer service here is garbage. One time I asked a question and the clerk couldn't have seemed more annoyed. Another time when I said I wasn't interested in a club card I got some attitude from the cashier about how I must not like saving money. It was her tone, not the words. And then just recently I had a small problem at self-checkout and I was told to wait a minute while the worker sorted out some papers in a binder for 5 minutes instead of helping me. The prices are ridiculous (9.50 for Goldfish crackers when the same box is 6.99 at Target) so I wouldn't shop here regularly anyway but the really poor customer service definitely sealed the deal. read more

Let me just start off by saying this, fuck Safeway!!!! I went in there today, and all I wanted were some freaking macaroons!!! There was no one at the bakery section so I went over to the deli section to ask someone for help. While I was there waiting to talk to the lady behind the desk, people started to come up to the glass food cases to see what was there, and when she turned around she said there was no food, and It wasn't good anyway. Then she proceeds to say she had a big visit tomorrow from the big boss, and she didn't have time, then said "there is a lot more food around the store you know." When I finally got to ask her for help she interrupted me, said she couldn't do it, and said she would call a manager. I didn't even get a chance to say anything back. She finally called a manager and no one came. I had to hunt an employee down to finally get help. I get that she's probably stressed from the visit but that's no way to treat customers. It's like she didn't even want to help us at all. It's her freaking job..... When I finally got help I told the guy that was helping me about how rude she was. When I was checking out at the self check out she came up to the manager by me, and was trying to say that she was following all protocols, and that she did nothing wrong. She came to talk to talk to her manager on purpose since I was there. The "protocol" wasn't the issue, the issue was her attitude and how she was talking to people. That's so unprofessional! Love shopping here for all my grocery needs. They always have the shelves stocked, the employees are friendly and helpful. just wasted 2 hours at Safeway with nothing to show for it! I had a long list (meals planned), a full cart (carefully price checking always), but the register (all the registers) weren't working properly. This is the 2nd time in 2 mos (note to self: don't shop at midnight). After 6 computer reboots and debit-card-sliding, while blankly watching at this dull, muscular young man cashier for 50 minutes, I had enough. The 'manager' Cathy apologized but she openly asked her co-horts "What can I do? I just want to go home." My sorbet had melted. I kept my cool and said calmly "I'm walkin', this isn't worth my time".....they didn't even say sorry! I left a shopping cart w/ bagged items that totaled $213...and seriously, the sorbet "HAD" melted and there were a number of other items from the frozen food section. read more

This store has gone down hill. After today I will no longer be shopping there. They put up signs stating they will open a register when there is more than 3 people in line, they DON'T! I ask the checker after standing in line for 16 minutes, his response was a shoulder shrug. Then he missed 2 items that had red clearance stickers. I was putting in my debit card & failed to pay attention & he missed them. I noticed when he handed me my receipt, I asked him about it & his response was I didn't see them. No sorry, NOTHING. I had to go to customer service & wait another 5 minutes to get my refund. Their customer service skills suck! read more

Not exactly service with a smile. In fact, the service through the store is almost hostile. Considering the fact that it is Safeway and one has to pay a premium price one would expect some courtesy. Safeway is an ok store. Usually pretty clean (except for the toilet, there is always graffiti or a busted toilet) te selection in the deli and other parts o the store are pretty good. The people that work in the deli are also very friendly. There aren't too many people that shop at Safeway here in town because it is kinda out of the way but its the only one in Turlock that stays open all night. This Safeway even has a Starbucks and a cafe seating area which is unique to this area. read more

This Safeway could be so much more. I love the set up, the quality of products, the Deli and Bakery. The staff is generally very friendly although I notice sometimes if you have to ask for help or get attention they seem defensive. The biggest thing I think they have going against them is their lack of cashiers at checkout. They only have 2 lines going at one time-no matter how many people are in line. And when you ask for more cashiers it isn't received well. I actually had to ask last week and the Assistant Manager was the one who came up to help. When I mentioned it his attitude was "well I am here now so get over it" . I was immensely polite about it but did state that it seemed common and I hear a lot of complaints in line. If I was the manager I would have wanted to know. He blew me off--very disappointing. Again- great store and product-fairly friendly staff but make sure you aren't in a hurry. Went to Safeway to pick up a coffee at the Starbucks on Sat, the two girls working had their backs turned and talking to another employee and talking about things that weren't about work. The one girl turned to the register and was surprised I was standing there. Anyhow, she is rude. No hello, didn't ask what I would like. I had to say are you ready for my order? She took my order and I don't know why I said thanks and of course said she nothing. Just wanted to say this girl has been rude before, she might want to find a new job that doesn't require customer service. She makes Starbucks look bad ! read more

I have come into this location on two separate occasions at roughly 5:30am. I've done my shopping and get up to the registers around 6am roughly and no one is operating them. I've stood there for a good few minutes until I finally have to go hunt someone down. The two times that I've done this, both clerks were extremely rude and acted as if it was inconvenient that I was checking out WHILE THEY WERE OPEN. Love to cleanliness of the story and the hours of operation, but very unsatisfied with the customer service I received.
