Can't speak for the entire store but I will say that Tracy in the Deli department is an outstanding. She went above and beyond to assist my wife an I. We were unaware of all the different cold and hot items available and Tracy informed us of the most popular dishes along with her favorites. We ended up purchasing an array of various items and everyone in my family genuinely enjoyed each and every item. Rarely do I get such great service that would warrant me to make a review but with Tracy I feel somewhat obligated. read more

My gripe is about your bakery. A few years back I walked in and discovered your torpedo rolls. You call ballinis or something, but they were awesome. I could sit and just eat the bread. It had flavor and I liked it. Then one day something changed. It didn't taste the same. No flavor at all. Every now and then the taste is there. Love this location. Employees are always so friendly and will to help. During my last visit I had a cashier that helped me complete my shopping list. She took a moment to double check whether they had an item I was missing. She had someone locate the item and it was brought to me so I could complete my list. I think this must be the best Safeway on the whole island. The workers are helpful and friendly, they have a huge selection of items and the store is always clean. Due to its location ( waikele premium outlets) its parking lot is not flooded with panhandlers and homeless such as the Pali and Beretania locations. It's also close to Old Navy, Lowe's, Sephora and Starbucks so it's easy to run your errands and then finish with a shopping trip. I get a laugh out of the review that says the stores large this is actually a teeny grocery store 50,000 square feet. miniature in comparison to the Safeway in Ewa Beach that's 175,00p square feet. I checked the store out and the flow of the store is odd. It's very difficult to navigate the half isles that are stacked on top of each other. The self-checkout Lanes had issues I was assisted by and I use the word assisted lightly buy some type of upper management from the Albertson's group that were there for the grand opening. He talked to me like I was a child on how to put my bags on the scale before scanning. overall the staff seemed friendly but a bit overwhelmed and unsure of how to operate a grocery store. The store has a modern look. But I do question they layout. The shopping center's parking lot is not the best there are no cart corrals as you go toward Lowe's. it's definitely a great store for the area but unfortunately in typical Hawaii fashion it'll be mismanaged. read more

I was excited to go to this Safeway for the first time. Unfortunately after I wrote a check I found out I wrote it for a dollar more. I misheard because of the face mask. The cashier had another cashier take me to Customer Service where I waited for an employee ahead of me. I asked the cashier what was going on and she said something about my check and left. I thought, "all this for a dollar more. I would have been glad to correct the check, write another one or use my credit card." Another employee came and the CS clerk helped her too. Meanwhile I was wondering why I was there because I didn't understand why they would keep me so long for that little mistake. Eventually the clerk said she would help me then got on the phone. I asked her what was going on. She said it was the first time I wrote a check in that store. I said "yes, it was my first time at this Safeway." She asked me for a phone number because the number I wrote on my check doesn't exist. What? I said that is my phone number but maybe they had an old number. I had gotten the Safeway card years ago because I go to another store occasionally. I gave her two old numbers. She misspoke them to the person on the phone. I corrected her. She kept saying my number doesn't exist. The phone number didn't match what they had in their system so they turned down my check. I showed her the number in my phone settings. Finally I gave her my credit card to finally pay for my groceries and get out of there. She kept saying the cashier should have told me what was going on. I said she also should have told me what was going on. But she wasn't listening and kept repeating that the other cashier was to blame. It'll be a long time before I go here again or may just not ever. If only they had explained what was going on, gave me alternatives and asked how I wanted to pay. Worst customer service I've experienced in a long time. If you go here don't write a check. Don't treat your customers like they did something wrong and you don't value their business. I gave them one star because the store is relatively clean and another star because an employee showed me where to find something I was looking for and politely asked me if I needed anything else. *UPDATE: Thank you for responding for Safeway, Dawn. Really don't want to write this but I had an awkward situation returning an ite to the store, cashier Ginny gave me attitude when asking for my phone number at the register. I simply heard her request the number and as soon as I started speaking, she aggressively told me to punch the number into the pin pad. Not a very friendly place to shop. As we we're looking for a particular item the person stocking the shelves told us we had to move so he could put items on the shelf. Since we were not planning on sleeping in the aisle I didn't see why this person could not wait the 60 seconds we were there before telling us to leave. If you want to stock shelves with no one in the store I would like to suggest that you restock during the hours your store is closed. read more

Even though we have one in our neighborhood I prefer to go this location. I like the layout and there are good options available. I especially like that they carry my oat milk creamer so I dont have drive too far for it. The workers are generally friendly and they tend to greet the customers with a smile. don't really think about reviewing grocery stores but I had to stop and take a minute to praise a worker here. I work in retail so I know how hard it is day by day dealing with customers. Especially now after the pandemic, but people are mean. As I was checking out my alcohol ( yes only popped in to get our drinks for tonight), I notice this vibrant cashier: Lyanne Laws. I was next in line but the customer in front of her complimented her shirt. There was the vibrant spirit about her. I have to admit I am not like her checking out, a hour in my shift I'm over it. This is specifically towards the seafood dept. There are no signs posted to show what they offer, so I asked about poke bowls , the worker was kinda rude and gave the attitude like "no $hit", usually I go mililani and they have the imitation crab bowl for $6, so I was wondering if they had any specials but he gave off an attitude like he had better stuff to do, it's all good if you busy but maybe post up a sign with the prices so customers know how the pricing works. It was $6.99/lb but I was charged $12.99 for added rice?? it showed up as $8.99 then all of a sudden it was upcharged to $13?? I am loving this new Safeway here. The one in Mililani is horrible and central Oahu was in need of new grocery offerings as no grocery stores have been renovated or updated. I've been to Foodland Farms PC and while it's great for grab and go items but lacking in the actual grocery shopping. This Safeway has an amazing array of selection. The floral dept is beautiful, decent hot food section. However I've been here a handful of times already and the wings are always sold out. Today i was there at 4 and when I asked the deli if more wings would be made they said no which was disappointing. I am a bit worried that the wings are make your own bag for sanitary reasons. Bakery has some amazing creations and their produce area is huge with every you need! Meat selection and seafood is impressive. Overall I really like the selection I have. Previously I would have to drive into town for a grocery selection like this. My one only disappointment is that there is no BOH branch inside. For a large Safeway I'm surprised they don't. Actually it is a genius idea with locals and tourists. Lots of foot traffic at Waikele. I just walked around to check out the store. Updated review; convenience has brought us back to this Safeway. After the bad early experiences, it seems the team has vastly improved! Last visits have been very friendly and helpful. Nice turn around! This is our second visit. First week visit; we saw numerous expired items (must have stocked the shelves to early before opening stores). No real buggy, figured that would be corrected quickly. Second visit 12/15/19 7:30ish; all cashier lanes were open, but cashiers were talking to each other and no one waved us in (so we wondered, is the lane open?). While ringing up our groceries, the cashier let a grapefruit roll off onto the floor, no "so sorry, would you like to get another?". The cashier our cashier was talking to help bag the groceries. She was clearly not happy to be there; her expression was very sour. When I had to move the cart a bit to help my 83 year old mother in-law, great aggravation was added to her face (since I moved the cart while she was going to put a bag inside.) We'll be going back to the super friendly people at Foodland in Waipio! They have always been terrific! Their friendly staff sure trumps convenience with poor service! (And they were not even busy!) Waited a long time and now we are happy that it's open. Store is clean and items are easy to find. The aisles seem much wider than the other Safeways and much colder. Employees very friendly and eager to help. Recently purchased prime rib (for our New Years Eve Dinner) that we got to custom order. Butcher was very helpful and you can even place order prior and arrange pick up time. Also received a digital coupon that helped decrease our price from 8.99 a pound to 6.99 a pound. $5 Friday's are my favorites. Always enjoy the bargains that they have. Request: While your having your parking lot paved can you modify your arrows that are in front of the store. You have one way arrows but the road is closed. I saw about three+ cars, including myself, who went the wrong direction but couldn't go forward or had to turn around. Safeway is definitely my spot for my late night sweet tooth satisfaction with thei bakery grabs! Brownies are yummy and chocolate donut with cream filling. Produce-I have gone several times there until two weeks straight they did not have basil in stock. I will take my produce purchases elsewhere. This review is based off of the service and attitude of the local butcher lady. I said excuse me as she was putting away frozen boxes of chicken and asker her if there was anymore chicken thighs that were BOGO and she looked at me then turned away and I heard her say you just have to wait 15 to 20 minutes. I did not once say can you go look now and she could of just said I can check as soon as I am done with what I am going and it will be about 15 minutes or so. I would have been fine with that but no she had the attitude which I did not like. So I walked away and then came back that way and she was bringing out the chicken thighs. She then said all I had to do was wait and I said I don't like your shitty attitude and she continued to argue with me and told me I could have gone to the meat counter. I told her that I didn't know I could go there and saw her as I passed so I decided to ask and what a big mistake . I had a previous issue with this same butcher some months back and had written a review but looks like nothing came of it. The previous time I mentioned to her that there was no price or weight sticker on some pork rubs and all she said was well put it back then and not let me get that taken care of fornyou. Wtf kind of Service is that? To the managers of this store may I suggest you send this lady to customer service training or keep her off the floor so she can't interact so rudely with customers. I come here at least a couple of times a week and this crappy attitude make me want to go elsewhere. I must say everyone else I asked questions to were pleasant. Ordered a cake here for my son's birthday. Ordered over the phone couple days prior the man who answered the phone was really helpful. We got a dinosaur cake and honestly had no idea what it would look like since it was ordered over the phone but we were really pleased & our son loved it so much!! Because of the poor, inept way Costco has been handling customers during COVID-19, we have switched all of our prescriptions to Safeway. We could not even find parking at Costco to pick up our drugs and the lines went way around the building. We tried 4 different times and decided enough was enough, and switched over to Safeway's pharmacy. Safeway pharmacy has longer hours than Costco and they are open on Sundays; Costco pharmacy is closed on Sundays. Today the Safeway pharmacist called and told us about a special discount card my husband qualifies for, which would offer us a big savings. Costco never did anything like that for us, and he's been taking this drug for many years. The Safeway pharmacy has excellent service. When they didn't have a drug I needed, they called to other Safeways and had it sent over to the Waikele store. Safeway Waikele is very clean and spacious. There's a lot of variety, even during COVID-19 times. We even scored toilet paper and it was in the early afternoon! Their kupuna hours are more generous than Foodland's, and they seem to handle shoppers better than Foodland Waipio. Safeway also offers a huge selection of organic food; Foodland is way behind in their organic food offerings. read more

I've never been to this Safeway before, which used to be the Sports Authority long ago. This is located in the Waikele Shopping Center, next to Lowe's. The layout is similar to the other Safeway's, but this one looks cleaner and more modern. There are stuff that you can find here that you probably would like to buy. They do have a wide range of stuff on sale, so you most likely can find something cheap that you want. read more

Whooooaaaaaaaa man... I don't know where to begin. This review is for there deli service. I don't know if it's the lack of training that the employees are receiving but something needs to be done. Coming from a retail background as well, I understand the customer service aspect but this was horrible. One customer before us had a lot to say as well because he demanded a manager and yet the employees looked at him as if they didn't understand him. I gave them two opportunities and the second time was much worse. Anyway, I went to the deli counter to order a breakfast burrito, standing there for about 10 minutes not one employee acknowledged us. After FINALLY being acknowledged, I pray to god the employee working there was clueless. While ordering, the employee did not know mostly anything that they served on the menu! She would reply, "Oh we have that?" "Oh I don't know where that is." Why would you say that to your customer?!? Also, it takes about 10-15 mins to make a burrito. My suggestion is to pre make burritos so you don't have a line full of customers waiting forever. *If you want a breakfast burrito just go to McDonald's or Jack in the Box, pretty sad to say but it's true. Going forward, I really hope Safeway does something to fix this problem so they don't lose customers. Safeway is a great company and I believe there is a lack of training that is involved. Rozanne ( name of the lady behind the counter) was doing price tags on bread and I approached her if i can make special order for cake "Diner cake and a Rosette on the side of the cake" and she replied " NO WE CANNOT DO ThAT in the mean tone, no smile behind her mask. It's about time! So glad they put a market here even if it's only Safeway. They've got pretty much everything here. The only thing you have to watch out for is the expiration date. Truly check the day that the product was packed vs when they recommend to sell by. My husband once bought a whole bag of their fresh bagels. He must've not looked at the date that it was packed. I didn't even get to eating 1 before realizing the entire batch was moldy. I dumped the whole thing and went back to grab bagels from the aisle (where the bagels last longer)the next day. I was really bummed about that. It was already a few days and I had thrown the receipt away. Even their packed bags of broccoli I once bought was mostly mush. You just have to be more cautious of what you're buying. I've had better luck once I took more notice of the expiration dates. Other than that I would still shop here. Not for meat though. This store just opened in waikele. So it's still untainted. I love that they have a diverseness of hot meal foods you can choose from. Today I got the crunchy roll sushi and corn chowder. It was pretty good. Tip: make sure to fill your soup to the top. It's all the same price. Doesn't go by weight. They had Chinese food and also japanese food available to order. They have a nice eating area to enjoy your meal. They also have a clean bathroom to use. This store is astronomical. Lots of open space. Even if it gets busy I don't think you'll feel crowded or confined. I will definitely be returning here. read more

It's Sunday evening, the day before Memorial Day. As I walked into the store I noticed the lines were long and they only had two registers open. At least 5-7 people in each line. There was an employee directing customers to the registers instead of hopping on to a register and getting the line down. I ended up walking right out. I was not going to wait in those lines.
