Yet another Indian fine dining restaurant opens in downtown Freehold. Food is very good but wait staff is too timid to spice the dishes as requested. Therefore the Indian heat is missing and this degrades from the overall flavor and enjoyment . The service was fine other than the comment listed above. And, the ambience is very nice with white table cloths used throughout. I do recommend this place but if you like the heat keep my comments in mind.

The underdog vs Goliath... Saffron took over where the old Cuban restaurant was and most of the decor is the same. Beautiful lush green booths with a modern twist. Draped curtains nice and has a nice vibe. So- how was the food right?? Authentic! Delectable! Hot both in temperature and just enough spice! My family isn't too keen on curry but between the butter chicken and the Tikka Chicken Masala the flavors were just what I was expecting from the authentic Indian cuisine. The Naan and basmati rice were perfect and the Lamb Bryani was good too! The Chef came out to greet us our waiters were fantastic! Really sweet, attentive, and interactive without being overbearing. Considering they're up against a pillar of Indian cuisine on the same block, I truly believe patrons will be happily satisfied with Saffron! Give it a try and let everyone know how you like it.

An overall good meal with excellent, and I mean excellent customer service and staff members. I enjoyed the Chana saag, and eggplant Burta I had here tonight. They serve a tasty chickpea flour cracker with some sauces for free with your meals, which I also found enjoyable. I was really impressed by the quality of the staff members. I asked for something to be made that was not on the menu and they were kind enough to accommodate and the dish came out good as well. Definitely would come back and suggest to others to try out

The best addition to downtown Freehold in many years. Saffron offers fine Indian cuisine in an atmosphere that's elegantly-decorated, featuring luxurious linens and a grand setting. More importantly than that, the food is fresh, flavorful, and provides a generous portion to meat-eaters and vegetarian patrons alike. I've already come back and had the Madras Chicken, described as black pepper chicken, twice. Meanwhile the Tandoori Chicken appetizer blew me away with its sizzling presentation fresh out of the clay oven. I will be coming back and trying a whole chicken tandoori as an entree one night. The naan is baked to a golden-brown perfection, served hot, and seasoned well with options including chili, garlic, and cilantro. Asking for extra spicy on the Madras Chicken, which they obliged, I rated the spice level a 7/10 despite it being quite spicy. However, I then realized that a more moderate spice level allows the flavors of the cuisine to shine through better so I may hold back on my spice level requests going forward depending on the dish despite my potentially-egotistical love for extreme spice. Did I mention that they serve complimentary papadam to patrons? It comes with two sauces, and I've come to really enjoy the fresh green sauce which is typically seasoned with peppermint. Beyond that, the service is spectacular and matches the fine-dining ambiance. Everybody is so incredibly friendly, and the entire staff from the servers to the manager to the owner comes out and checks on the meal throughout. They can accommodate nearly any request, and my water jug was instantly replenished. Value is also high, and Saffron is BYOB. Speaking of friendly, they spoke highly of their competitor Aarzu down the street, which is Indian/American fusion. I prefer the authentic Indian cuisine at Saffron. Royal Ganesha at the mall is also good, especially for being at a mall location, but Saffron has the distinction of being significantly more elegant. Just like that, Saffron is now the best Indian restaurant in the Freehold area and a fantastic option for fine Indian dining.

my fiancé and I were seated and the waiter was friendly, we ordered the butter chicken, garlic naan, and veg samosas. The waiter was nice but they might be new in the food service industry as we weren't offered refills and waited a while to order and to get the bill. The butter chicken was good 7/10 my fiancé believed it needed a little more flavor garlic naan was my absolute favorite as it had garlic pieces and it was flavorful and my fiancé enjoyed it as well. 10/10 the samosas were big and they were delicious, it has a spicy kick to it but nothing too bad 7/10 The menu mentions that it holds coke products but when asked the waiter told us they hold Pepsi products. The drink came out and tasted like Pepsi but on the bill it also was put in as a coke... very confusing. I do wish the best for this restaurant , and it's significantly affordable compared to Aarzu, this is a new gem at Freehold. now for my fiancés review: Food was great. It was a nice atmosphere as well. Service was a bit awkward at times but overall good. Surprisingly empty. Chef didn't ask us how the food was

Great buffet and amazing table service. We went for a birthday lunch and were not disappointed. The food was fresh, the chef came to visit our table, allergies were taken seriously, and the decor was fun and inviting

Saffron just recently opened and the first time we visited was during its soft opening. From our first visit we have been impressed with the quality of food. The menu is extensive and very authentic. The food was delicious! I had the chicken Tikki masala during my first visit and I loved it. My second visit I had a fish on their menu and it was so good! I also had an eggplant dish that's become my favorite. The staff has been very friendly and the owner visited our table each time we visited. I've recommended this place to several people and they have been very happy with their food! I highly recommend this place!!

The food here was very good, I enjoyed my experience here. The food was very authentic and seasoned great. The atmosphere was amazing. This place is only missing a start because there was no outside seating and it would have been great to eat and experience everything that was happening outside.

Combo on special menu $23 big enough for two!

Excellent food and service. Great ambiance. They added a special menu with huge portions at reasonable prices.

On a Friday evening, they weren't that busy, but we had made reservations just in case. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant, which if anyone knows, isn't as comfortable as the booths or tables along the sides of the restaurant. We started off with the dahi bhalla, which was okay, but I don't recommend. It was little bland and served cold, which wasn't written in the menu's description. Our four entrees were the gobi aloo mutter, a cauliflower and potato dish that everyone enjoyed. Our second was the yellow dal tadka, which was more of a curry. I wished it had larger ingredients in it so it could have been eaten more as an entree rather than a supplement to rice, again, lacking in the description. The tikka masala was pretty standard, and the korma with shrimp was pretty good. All the entrees came with rice but we ordered roti and naan on the side. The roti was a bit thicker than we expected, just slightly thinner than the naan. Our table was a bit too small to fit four people and four entrees on it. The food was pretty good, service was very lacking. I would order takeout next time!

Spices and warmth was fantastic, we loved the rice, fluffy and seasoned with clove, definitely my favorite and this rice just really complemented the entrée. The interior has a wonderful vibe with communal table seating. Most importantly, all of our food was terrific. The menu is predominantly Punjabi Food (North India). Where else can you find Amritsari Fish or Punjabi Kadi Pakora on the menu!?! Being that my origins are from that area, I can firmly vouch for the taste and quality of the food we ate. We ordered Palak Paneer and Punjabi Kadi Pakora along with some plain naans. The food was very flavorful and delicious. We ordered medium spicy. If you can't handle spice, I would recommend going for mild. The medium had a nice punch to it. My only negative would be that the Mango Lassi, I ordered, should have been served in a large glass. Because it was good! I plan to come back again and bring my mom and dad next time. I know they would appreciate the food.

We discovered Mrs Kumar before it expanded and love the food. We visited Thumkaa which had its own vibes and while driving along 33E we kept passing Chozhas and decided we would visit on Valentine's day for Dinner. Clearly this restaurant does a booming business with its buffet and no difference on Valentines where an a la Carte menu was offered but there was such a crowd earlier that food and staff were exhausted. Fortunately we had Deepthi who despite being on her feet for hours made sure we were aware that the palak chat which was supposed to be out came back on the menu . Also giving us great advice on the quantity of food to order. She was excellent. Now to the food which was "good"...but not anything special. The appetizes Palak Chat and Lasuni Jhinga Shrimp were better than the main course of dal fry, goat rogan ghosh (nice having bones but not much meat). Rice came with garlic naan and the rice keer was served too hot as they ran out for lunch and had to make fresh. Now the decorations were really nicely laid out for Valentines and made it feel special. As we were leaving it was crowded. Clearly this place has a following and we were told the weekend buffet is what everyone comes for. We will try the buffet one weekend to see how the food is and hope that it really is exceptional and better than the a la carte. Again staff were great given how hard they were working and kudos to Deepthi.

I also threw in an onion salad because you sometimes do need a little something to cut through all that rice. However, my friends, once I placed my order, that is where the good times stopped rolling. I showed up at 8:15 for my 8:20 ETA pickup and was immediately told that was wrong and that they needed another 30 minutes. All in all, it took me 50 minutes to pickup the food from order to when I left the restaurant for a place that is a mile away from my house. Once I came home, now with sky-hunger expectations due to the wait, I was really disappointed. The Shrimp Biryani had a handful of shrimp on top and basically was otherwise a tub of rice. Though the shrimp had flavor, each piece was in varying states of prep with some being cleaned while others had shell or tail or both. I know Biryani is a rice dish but I would of loved to have some other bits and bobs in the Biryani to break up paying basically $20 for some fluffed spiced rice. The onion salad? Let's just say truth in advertising doesn't live here. The menu photo suggested something bright and layered. What I got was $3 worth of plain sliced onions and a lemon wedge. Call it what it is--or better yet, don't bother. Looks like the next time I flying solo, I will be finding some other haunt for some Indian food in Monmouth County.
