At the grocery store, we asked someone local for a restaurant recommendation for lunch. Saffron Indian Kitchen was her top--and bless her, it was fabulous. We loved our meal there. So delicious! We had the Tandoori chicken and Chicken Tikka Malei (not sure if that is spelled right??) We also enjoyed Garlic Naan bread and a lovely smooth Mango Lassi. I was in town visiting relatives and tried SAFFRON INDIAN KITCHEN on a recommendation from my brother-in-law. What a treat! We had goat and lamb. Both were delicious. I was surprised that the restaurant, which is very warm and welcoming, had no other diners. I spoke with the owner/manager about this and he said most of their business is take out. I first thought it was going to be like a fast food joint that was just Indian style. It has that vibe. You sit down and got great service... Nice easy menu to navigate and of course lunch specials. I have never loved something so much that I thought "I have to write a review", but this place is sooooooo good. Even my 13 year old who doesn't like any kind of spices LOVED it. First huge plus for this restaurant, it is a BYOB. I love being able to bring my own beverages to a restaurant and not have to pay a huge markup for a drink. They are even close to a liquor store. This alone would have made me very happy, but then add the friendly staff and the incredible food and I was in for a great evening. The food here was simply wonderful. It is clear that they are using fresh ingredients and authentic spices. The goat was tender and the sauce very flavorful. The paneer was also extraordinary. We have a habit of ordering samosas whenever can, and these were also perfectly crispy and well spiced. From the outside the restaurant is nothing special, but inside it is bright and clean and well laid out. Tables are spaced well for privacy. Came with cucumber yogurt sauce. Lamb Roganjosh Dinner - chose Medium spicy level is but not really spicy. Broth tasted like a mix of cream and red peppers. Lamb was very tender. I just wanna start with saying how good the food is here, absolutely delicious!! Let's break it down one item at a time. I started with onion bhijia, Vegetables fried in a chic pea batter, it was slightly over cooked but tasty and the dipping items were delicious. I didn't ask what they were one was like a green chili or green tomato. The garlic naan was perfection a nice balance of flavor and texture nothing over powering. Finally one of the best things I've had in a long time, Lamb Vindaloo. It was the most tender lamb in a red stew like sauce the thickening agent must have been the potatoes. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! I closed out with Masala Tea. The Restuarant is easy to find, plenty of parking and it can accommodate any size group. The tables are set very nicely with bright yellowish gold tablecloths and the silverware is high quality restaurant grade. The host/server was very nice with helping me navigate the pronunciation of the dishes. My food was served promptly and hot. This is also a Yelp 'cash back' restaurants. Loved getting takeout from Saffron - they have a few locations set up in the suburbs of Philly. So far has been my favorite Indian takeout food in the suburbs! Would love to order from here again. How to order: They have an online platform, though it wasn't working, so they're also willing to take orders over the phone and have you pay in store. How they're handling takeout: Professional and in masks - you walk right in the store (which was completely empty when I walked in - around 12pm on a Saturday). Food: My favorite was the lamb korma - sauce was very well done, and the lamb was more tender (and not chewy) compared to other lamb korma dishes I've tried before. Ordered chicken tikka masala too which was incredibly tasty - the chicken didn't taste dry at all, and I loved the sauce. I think samosas were generally average (not too different compared to other Indian restaurants). We had a lot of rice left over. Overall: 5/5 - No real complaints. The process was very simple and grabbing takeout was easy. Good portion sizes overall, and the meat tasted great. Highly recommend - so glad they're still open. read more

My family occasionally likes to bring in Indian food. We've tried Saffron a few times. Not our favorite but it's passable. This latest bring-in I was shocked at the price and lacking food quality. My go-to meal (Chicken Tikka Masala) was not good. I'm particular about my chicken and this one was tough and stringy. My wife's go-to favorite (Saag Paneer) was flavorless. In addition to the subpar food, the price was higher than most Indian restaurants. For example, the Tikka Masala was $18 when most places charge less. So I have tried a number of area India restaurants. This is my second trip to Saffron and I have to say it is going to be my 'go to' even though I have 3 closer Indian restaurants. Today we tried the butter chicken and the saag lamb. Both sauces were very tasty - we ordered medium spice and they had just enough to make your mouth happy without being overpowering. What I reallllly appreciate is the amount of meat in their dishes - honestly I think the meat pieces are larger and the volume is double what I get at the other local places. At other restaurants, I run out of meat and have a bunch of sauce left so I need to add my own meat - not going to happen with these dishes from Saffron! Parking is ample, prices appropriate, staff friendly; only issue (to me) is if you are on the 'other' side of Lancaster Ave turning into Saffron (or want to turn left out of the parking lot on to Lancaster), there can be a bunch of traffic. read more

I was so intrigued by this place because it ALWAYS seems crowded. This past weekend was no exception, the place was packed. It was a nice atmosphere to have everyone dining in since so many local Indian restaurants seem to lean heavily towards take out. I ordered the plain dosa, papri chaat, chicken tika masala, and roti. I'd never had the dosa before and didn't love it. The sauces were kind of bland. The papri chaat has a great combination of flavors and nice crunch. The chicken tika masala was good but not the best I've ever had. That is my favorite dish so I'm not sure if I'll be back because if that. Quality has gone down drastically. On my 2nd visit to this place, the food quality has gone down the drain. First dish we ordered was Daal which was served cold and just boiled. We asked to keep it mild and they just boiled it and served it. When we asked why was that so , the management said that's how mild daal is. In my 20 years of eating out at Indian restaurant no one has ever benchmarked spice level with taste but these guys do. So make sure if you say mild they will serve you boiled stuff with no other condiments in it Second dish was Chicken tikka which seemed to came as sizzling on platter but it was all raw inside. Could see the pink raw meat Third dish was paneer tikka makhani which we decided to keep as kadahi paneer style per Servers recommendation - the dish came out someone just mixed chunks of paneer with red tomato without even marinating and properly cooking anything Fourth dish was Sham Savera - whatever those balls were made of had very chewy and hard texture to it. Almost it felt frozen and days old. I have had sham savera before and it's usually melting and soft. This was something else We returned the first three dishes but we were so starving after waiting for almost 40 min for our food we decided to eat Sham savera. To make things worse, a few of my family threw up all night from the food that we ate and as I am writing this I am having tummy aches This place used to be good but I don't know what changed - they lost me and my friends as customers Eat at your own risk ! read more

It's flavorful, a large portion, and reasonably priced. Best of the main line. Although this restaurant seems to be mainly a delivery-takeout place, it has a lovely quaint interior with classy tables and pleasant staff. I'd definitely go here with friends or on a date. They don't prompt you to choose your spice level, so I think its meant to be written in the modification box. We ordered two dishes , garlic naan and an order of raitha tonight. Everything was fine until we pulled out the container of raitha from the bag. Why is the raitha so watery? The only thing I can think of is that someone watered it down and it was really inedible which is too bad because the rest of the meal was good ,though the chicken tikka was too sweet! Good thing we requested a medium spice level otherwise it really would have been a disappointment.
