This place is closed. Another place called Vinney's is here and has tons of Ecuadorian food that's amazing.

I've been traveling to NYC multiple times a year for decades now, and no matter how many times I…read morevisit, I always find myself drawn back to Katz's Delicatessen. Walking inside feels like stepping back into New York history. It's been a Lower East Side staple since 1888, and you can absolutely feel that old-school energy the second you grab your ticket at the door. The menu is huge and packed with classic Jewish deli staples, but I definitely have my routines down. My absolute favorites are the matzoh ball soup (the matzoh balls are massive and perfectly fluffy), the crispy potato latkes, and a bowl of their comforting chicken noodle soup. When it comes to the mains, their turkey sandwich is incredibly juicy and piled sky-high. These classic sandwiches are definitely made for sharing because they are massive, but if you aren't looking to split a giant portion, they also offer half-sandwich combos and platters which are great options. Just make sure you save a little bit of room for dessert before you leave...their black and white cookies are completely delicious and the perfect sweet finish to a massive deli meal. It's an absolute must-visit every single time I'm in the city.

We arrived on Thursday, July 2, around 10:10 PM after flying in from California. We were exhausted,…read morebut we still took an Uber from our Times Square hotel because we wanted our very first meal in New York to be at our favorite place. Unlike my previous visit, the gentleman who prepared our sandwich was incredibly kind and welcoming. He offered us a sample to taste, smiled, and made us feel appreciated as customers. He deserves recognition for his professionalism. Unfortunately, that's where the good experience ended. By the time we received our sandwiches, it was around 10:30 PM. Even though there were still many customers eating inside, the staff had already stacked chairs upside down on the tables. It looked awful and completely unprofessional. No customer should walk into a restaurant and see that while people are still dining. We were exhausted after a cross-country flight and only intended to sit for five minutes. My husband had already taken a seat while I was waiting for our food. As soon as I walked over with our sandwiches, an employee marched up to us and, in an extremely rude, hostile, and disrespectful manner, ordered us to leave because our food had been packed to go. My husband politely explained that the restaurant didn't close for another 30 minutes, many customers were still eating inside, and that we would be gone in five minutes. He was respectful and simply asked for a little understanding. Instead of showing even the slightest bit of courtesy, the employee continued speaking to us with an arrogant and dismissive attitude, repeatedly insisting that we leave immediately. He wasn't asking--he was throwing us out. We said only one sentence: "We'll be out in five minutes." That was enough for him to treat us as if we were completely unwelcome. We picked up our food and left. We ended up eating our sandwiches in the back of an Uber on the way to our hotel. By then, the excitement of finally arriving in New York and visiting one of our favorite places had been completely ruined. Do you notice that I've written this entire review without even mentioning how the sandwich tasted? That's because when an employee feels entitled to humiliate customers and chase them out like this, the food no longer matters. What disappoints me even more is that no manager stepped in. That tells me this behavior is either accepted or ignored. This was our final visit. We will never return. A business can survive for a while with the mentality of "If one customer doesn't come back, another will." But that attitude eventually destroys the reputation that made the business famous in the first place!! I do have the video and the photo of the disrespectful employee, I can provide it if the owners just message me I avoid sharing his picture here to be respectful.

The woman with the gray hair working at the register, I'm not sure if she is the owner or manager has come across as rude toward me on multiple occasions and has given me uncomfortable looks while I'm paying. I've also personally noticed what felt like different treatment toward some Jespy clients compared to other customers coming in, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome at times she treats the Jespy clients differently. The setup for ordering subs can also be a little confusing, especially if it's your first time there or if the deli is busy. The line and ordering process could definitely be organized a bit better. The service overall could be friendlier and more welcoming. It's also a little pricey, so I don't go there very often. That being said, the food itself is still very good and worth trying if you're in the area.

It was packed with 4 kinds of meats. Some reviewers mentioned that it was too much meat, but that shouldn't be a reason to dock a star. My partner enjoyed his steak sandwich as well which had cheese whiz. Super local spot. Has maybe three tables. Employees were nice. Place is across from a church so easy to get food after service! Would def come again for value, flavor, and size!

Before Jersey Mike's. Before Blimpie…read more Before Firehouse Subs. Before Subway. Before Jimmy John's. Before (okay, you get the idea)... there was Big Stash's. A (local) institution. Long before the likes of Subs Galore (a few blocks away) tried to rock the boat, Stash's was the only game in town (for a whole lotta years). I grew up two blocks away and I'm positive I put the original owner's kids through college with all the money I dropped here. After hearing new owners decided to keep the lights on I had to make an effort to get over here to show my support. Walking into the new Stash's... the place received a 'glow-up' (I'm entirely too old to be trying to use hip slang!) and loved that they decided to keep the framed Scott Baio picture (one of these days I'll share the 'deets' on that!). Surprised to see a few new menu additions (coffee?! Taylor ham?! Manhattan Special Espresso Soda?!) as well as being open more days and longer hours. For the sake of history I had to try their 'Belly Buster' and the kid handed me the sub in a box. ("Huh?! This is a weird gimmick.") But when I got home to open the box I understood 'why' - no wax paper and standard paper bag would've been able to hold this beast together. Just a ridiculous amount of (Thumann's) cold cuts and toppings that the (decent) bread tried in vain to keep together. "Bang for your buck" - you won't find a better deal. But for me it was TOO much and there's definitely an 'art' and a 'balance' to the ratio of meat to toppings to bread and Stash's is a bit TOO generous for my liking. One odd tidbit that brought me back to my youth and the old Stash's... that "stinky sub smell" that you just can't get off of your hands (and body) - no matter how many times you wash your hands, brush your teeth, take a shower, you name it. (Sadly it's Pavlovian for me to want/need a Clinton's iced tea when devouring a Stash's sub but that's no longer an option.) I hope they have another fifty years of prosperity down there in West Hudson!
