We went out of our way by miles to revisit this restaurant we remembered from a visit to Dearborn 6 years ago. Friendly, efficient service and FANTASTIC food. The proprietor introduced us to their cauliflower dish last time and we had it again -so yummy! We also got a chicken shawarma plate which was so flavorful and had nicely crispy edges. Their hummus and pita are delicious. The best part may be the toum (garlic olive oil sauce). Light and fluffy, adds a spark to each dish. They were super patient and kind to answer all my questions. The food is so good, and you get so much food for a great price. I literally had enough food to eat my leftovers for 2 more meals. I chose to order the Meat Ghallaba lunch special which came out to be ~$14. The meat was beef which was a little tough to chew, but the flavor was really good. I might be wrong but it seemed to have a tomato base. The lunch specials come with unlimited bread (delicious), toum (exquisite garlic sauce), hummus, soup or salad, and rice or fries. This place makes me want to move to Dearborn so I can eat here more often. Popped in for a late lunch with my wife after visiting the Henry Ford museum (just a few miles away). The food was incredible. We both got "lunch specials" which are served all day (me - mixed shawarma, my wife - chicken kabob.) the portions were gigantic - and I'm a big guy. I have no idea how much you get if you order dinner. Food was great. Came with choice of salad or soup but we both opted for soup: crushed lentil. So good. They make their own pita which is brought warm to your table. We needed a to go box and the owner (I presume) also brought us a bag of extra pita. He also gave us a sample of rice pudding. You walk in and there's zero ambiance, but the owner greets you warmly and the other customers have enough leftovers to feed the whole town. The owner even brewed tea for me. My husband and I are from out of town and were visiting our children who live in the area. After touring the nearby Ford Rouge Assembly Plant we were looking for something to eat and found Sahara Restaurant Dearborn. My husband and I haven't tried many Mediterranean restaurants, but our children really like Mediterranean food so we decided to give it a try. As soon as we arrived at the restaurant our children realized that they had already eaten at Sahara and remembered that they really enjoyed it! The food and service were both excellent and we were glad we stumbled upon a new (to us) and familiar (to them) restaurant. The staff (I believe perhaps the owner) was very friendly and accommodating when we ordered and when delivering the food and providing drink refills and pita bread refills. We each ordered something different and everything was delicious. The fresh baked pita and garlic dip was amazing, the hummus was better than any I've ever had, and the rest of the food was very flavorful and cooked perfect. In addition, the portion sizes are very large so we were able to take home some leftovers to enjoy later. We paid $36 and got the following: Two large salads (one tabouleh and one fattoush, which comes with pita chips), one plate each of hummus and baba ganoush, and a basket of about 10 hot, soft pitas. Then came the platter itself: Heaping stacks of chicken and beef shwarma, skewers of chicken kabob and beef kufta, four delicious falafel patties, and four grape leaves, all over a large bed of rice pilaf. Three of us had huge dinners (we were stuffed) and we still had enough for three giant Tupperwares full of leftovers to take home. Saraha has the best middle eastern / mediterranean food in the area, and I've tried most of the others. I drive up here for a meal whenever I visit family who live about 15 miles away. I loved the food here! Even the veggies they grilled up had some great marinated seasoning, which is perfect for my Keto lifestyle I have going on at the moment. The deboned chicken was a little on the dry side, especially because it was breast but still, flavor was great compared to a lot of other places who just literally charbroil and rely completely on that for flavor only. They serve you warm housemade breads, with the best garlic paste you'll have in all of Dearborn! (Seriously I had to ask for more just to take home) Their Shish-tawouk lemon Oregano is phenomenal and making me hungry thinking about it now. The salads, I have to admit are not my favorite because of the use Of the prominent apple cider vinegar flavor it had, I absolutely hate cider vinegar but that's just me, you might love it. And I know I'm repeating but the veggies were probably my favorite part of it all because they take their time to season, marinate them and grill them to perfection. I am a lover of middle eastern food and this place was so tasty! If you come here, alone, you will have a TON of food to bring home. Our family ordered a meal each and I think we should of order two dishes and shared because the serving size is HUGE--no complaints though, as we took it to our Airbnb and ate the rest the next day! They have plenty of vegan options, which was nice to see. Their pita bread was SO, SO GOOD! I really enjoyed everything I had there, and so did my family. The lentil soup was really yummy as our appetizer and quite filling too. The garlic sauce (which is not vegan) was crazy good from what my family members told me. I had just flown from Los Angeles to Detroit to visit my parents, and we came straight to Sahara from the airport at 7:30pm on Sat 8/26. I had read some stellar reviews about Sam and Sahara on Reddit while I was waiting to board the plane and was eager to try the food. I hadn't eaten all day just to save my appetite. Even with such high expectations, I loved the food and Sam was hilarious, generous and warm. I had the Sahara combination, along with sides of hummus and tabbouleh for us to share. All three of us were amazed by the food, everything was delicious and we were completely stuffed afterwards. We stayed until after 9pm still talking, and we were the last ones in the restaurant. Sam offered us lentil soup to take home since he was going to throw it out anyway, along with dessert. We had leftovers for the next four meals!
