I live in a Logan Square 3-flat that's over 100 years old. Each unit had a big front picture window, and all three needed replacing due to broken thermal seals. We thought replacing them was going to be a huge pain, especially after one of the companies we had come out for a estimate told us they wouldn't do the work because they didn't have equipment that could reach up to the 3rd floor window. Of those who were willing to do the work, we got the best deal and warranty from Sahara. Eric made the consultation-to-purchase process informative and straightforward, Jessica made scheduling & payment easy, and Vitaliy and Dima not only did an efficient job swapping out the windows, but also left the new windows and the area around them clean and clear of any debris. They were able to swap out the 3rd floor window from the inside, so equipment was not an issue. We would definitely use them again for future projects. read more

I have used Sahara for window installation two separate times. So after the first installation replacing a window and a sliding door, I knew who to call to replace two bay windows this past October. First let me speak to the quality of the windows/door installed. They were replacing ones that were only 10-15 years old. (Pella-awful from day one). The Sahara windows are like looking out thru high definition windows. The trim, cranks, and locks are top quality and work super. From the first call to schedule an appointment with the salesman, Kevin to when the installation guys left was unlike most experiences I have had with similar house projects. I just contacted Larson directly, and order the two parts I wanted for $46 and I have 30 days to return them.Perhaps you should pressure your vendor to treat you at least as good as the general public...sad. We have two doors from Sahara that we have been happy with but maintenance is required on one of them; when I called to set up an appt. I was told they only do replacements. Also my elderly mother called several times to set up an appt. for a replacement screen door and the female who answered their phone was so rude to my mother, I couldn't believe it! They missed out on a new sale from my mom and we would have probably ended up replacing our screen door as well. Customer service is so very important. read more

This is an awesome company to do business with. They installed the doors in the time frame quoted when signing the contract. The brick work turned out great. Day one they cut through the brick and on day two they installed the doors. The workers covered my hardwood floors and left no mess behind. They even removed the debri left from them cutting the brick. My husband and I are very pleased with the work. After 11 months of waiting for the custome front door, we still do not have the product we ordered. They measured wrong so the door didn't fit, sent it back to be cut down to size and it came back scratched. They repaired it but broke the glass while doing so and now the glass repair is not the same as the original door we ordered. Everyone has been extremely rude and unwilling to help. Now Sahara is saying that they are not standing by the products and we are out of luck. Do NOT shop here. read more

Nick M. was the representative that I worked with and he was very knowledgeable and professional. They had our window replaced with a bow window that was almost identical in style and shape, but was made of higher quality materials and carried a much better warranty. We're seeing savings on our utility bill due to our decision to go with Sahara and their product line! I was in the market to replace my entry and storm doors. I considered Sahara after receiving a marketing slip in the mailers envelope which markets local businesses. I had American Thermal Windows come out almost a year ago and replaced 13 windows. I was very happy with the installation and still super happy with my Great Lakes Eco-Smart windows. When they tell you having these windows change the temperature and create efficiencies- they are not kidding. My heating and air bill went down. They are easy to open, close, clean and look great. It's such a big improvement that I'm so happy I did it. Fast forward, I find out after calling my former sales rep at American that Sahara is a sister company! It's the same company folks! I assumed from the Ad Sahara is a door specialist! I'm thrilled. I get the same high level warranty that I received on my windows. I'm really excited to get my doors! The quality of the product and the level of service from American/Sahara is outstanding. Best of all, I was able to work with the same sales rep who remembered my style and came prepared, was able to answer all my questions. My recommendation is to visit the showroom! I couldn't decide on which door until I saw it in the showroom! You won't be disappointed! read more

Great product, horrible customer service. I'll start with the positive, my doors are great. I needed an old, severely warped wood door and storm door replaced and Sahara was recommended by another contractor. They ripped the old doors and frame down to the bricks and re insulated and re framed the new door. I used to feel a lot of draft and since the door was right off the bedroom, it would get freezing cold at night. With the new door, those problems are all gone and my house is warm and secure. I'm glad I hired a specialist and not a local handyman for a job like this. The downside to this was getting to the finished product was a nightmare and took 3 total months from start to finish. Other companies had a 4-5 week turnaround time for a similar price. I went with them because I liked the sales person (Brian) and he was the only one who took the time to come out to my house and present several different options. After I signed the contract and committing to spend the money is when things went south. I was passed off to a project manager (Kelly) who only chose to communicate via short email and left me in the dark on a lot of things. Sahara will want to obtain a permit to do any work which is completely understandable. I signed the contract on October 25th, 2016 and Sahara didn't bother reaching out for permit approval until November 18th, the Friday before Thanksgiving week. The Permit Rep for Evanston was, shocker, out the entire week of Thanksgiving. The permit was not approved until 12/22/16, what was going on from the end of October until December? They kept saying "the city of Evanston holds things up, it's on the city" when in reality I think they were using that as an excuse for not having their own house in order. I was misinformed several times during the process. I was told I would not be charged the deposit until product was ordered. I was charged long before the permit was even approved and when I contacted Kelly to ask if the product was ordered she never gave me a straight answer. I also had another gentleman come to my house to double check the measurements. He told me the doors were already ordered which was not true. I don't even know the date the order was placed, again that was never communicated to me. I understand there being projects before mine and waiting a few weeks before starting the permit process, but then Sahara just let it sit and didn't bother following up unless I contacted them. When I did I was just told they were "sending emails and would get back to me". More time passes and I decide to just contact the Permit Rep for Evanston myself and he picked up my first call, pulled the information, drove by my house to see where the door was going, and approved it the next day. I was told when I was working out the price that part of it was a "project manager's fee" when in reality I ended up managing the project myself, if I didn't take care of the permit thing and call Sahara to follow up the doors still wouldn't be installed. When installation day finally rolled around the gentlemen were friendly but didn't speak any English. I told them to take the address numbers off the old door, I MAY hang them above the new door. They took that as hang them anyway and drilled them into the exterior of my house when that's not what I had asked for. The installers also chipped some paint off the wall around the door frame. I can touch that up myself but it would have been nice if they pointed that out to me instead of hoping I don't notice. Finally, they left a HUGE mess behind and got sawdust allover my grill, deck, deck furniture and downstairs neighbor's deck and furniture. I guess cleanup wasn't included as part of the service. I signed in October and was told the doors would be delivered and installed before Christmas and it ended up being the second week of January which was about a month off. I would have been okay with the delay if it had been communicated to me without me instead of me having to reach out for updates and be left in the dark most of the time. read more

Installation went well but door not great. One piece storm/screen door - screen constantly pops out of track - if you lean against it or let it hit you as go through door, it's out. Company advertises "satisfaction guaranteed." I called, said I'm not satisfied - they said "Our service dept will call you." Never did. Passing the buck, I guess. 7/6/16. THIS DOOR SUCKS. Almost impossible to go through the screen door carrying something without popping it out of its track. UPS delivery - out. Carrying groceries - out. And no satisfaction from the company. read more

One star but in reality zero stars! A few weeks ago, my husband and I started shopping for an exterior French door & screen replacement for our home. We went to Sahara's showroom in Mt. Prospect and were met with total disappointment. The only person there was a woman that had NO knowledge about anything we asked! Not only did she not know anything, she made no attempt at finding out answers other than to one of the manufacturers who only confirmed to her that yes they made a French door. Dah....Really! No attempt at trying to have someone else that might be able to promote a sale, no attempt to ask for our names or number for followup. Zilch, nada! Maybe we were intruding on her lunchtime or something. I noticed she was sitting in a darkened area reading the newspaper when we arrived. This place was highly recommended to us by friends and family. We bought a new front door and a storm door. When they came to install, they realized they didn't have the correct sizing. So our door was unfinished for over a week. I called the salesman who said he was sorry and would make it up to us somehow. Also said he would be at the next installation to make sure everything went right. Never heard from him again!! Very disappointed, especially since they were recommended to us. We would have used them for new windows too, but not after our horrible experience. read more

We needed to replace our leaky kitchen windows. We've used Sahara before and were very satisfied. My wife and I visited the showroom and selected Marvin windows. They were not the cheapest line of replacement windows, but they're really great quality. Bruno and Victor arrived in the morning and spent hours making sure the windows were installed correctly. Bruno found a slight defect in the window painting and scheduled a painter to stop by and make everything perfect. Sahara is not the cheapest seller and installer that you'll find, but especially with Chicago winters I don't think you should skimp on replacement windows or installation. We had 3 different window and door companies come to give us estimates for our new back entry door and storm door. While all of the products seemed comparable to our naive eyes, we couldn't be more thrilled with our choice to go with Sahara. Eric Cisek was by far the best consultant who came to our home. He was to the point and offered us the real deal from the start. No hidden discounts emerged at the end of his visit, which really annoyed us about both other companies. There was NO pressure from him, and he knew we had a few other estimates we were considering. The new doors have been installed and they are beautiful. They block out the cold air like you'd never believe possible! (We have very large windows in the doors, so we expected it to be a little cold, but it isn't!) We are very happy. We will definitely use Sahara when we need to replace our other windows and doors. Oh, and I forgot to mention, our neighbors are the ones who recommended Sahara. I have bought windows from Sahara before and had good luck. I called them over 5 weeks ago to buy a side door and basement door. Brian came out, my wife and I picked the door for the side but they didn't have our size door for the basement and we gave a larger deposit than what he needed. They had our home and cell #'s. I called about 3 weeks ago just to check on an estimate installation date and to see if I could pay the balance with a credit card instead of a check like we gave for the deposit. The person was very nice and said I could pay the balance with a credit card. He also said we will be very happy with the new door. Two and a half weeks ago Brian called and told my wife he does have a door for our basement too if we would like to look them over. This morning Brian called and told me they don't have the door we ordered. It took 5 f!@#$% weeks to find out they didn't have the door we ordered ? Brian sent me a picture of a different door and it is nothing we wanted. He said he has been trying to get ahold of me for a couple weeks and we just played phone tag. BS!!! Someone has been at our house since mid November. I always have my cell phone on me. I have left Brian voicemails checking on an update and nothing until today. I have sent neighbors to Sahara and they used them. They only complaint before now is they charge every time they come out. I called Feldco and they ended up beating the price Sahara gave me by $100. Shop around because service means everything. Not only was the service better at the new place but they beat the price Brian gave us by $100. read more

Sahara and Iver provided great service from start to finish! After much research and quotes from other companies we went with Sahara for our wood windows. They did such a great job that we decided to do the back side of the house as well. Iver always took time to meet with us and was patient with the vision we had. We were looking for wood windows with black exteriors. He found windows and doors that we loved and could afford. We have gotten tons of compliments from neighbors, family and friends. In addition to Iver, the office crew is amazing. Their customer service is accommodating from installation to any service calls made after the installation process. Purchased 10 windows last September, took 7+ weeks to arrive, installed in November 2018 and have had nothing but issues with the installation of the windows . I thought the installation was going okay until the end of the day when we noticed they wouldn't open, there were gaps in the center of the wnidow by the wood casing where you can see straight to the outside, the worng casing was nailed up and took myelf to call it out, missing handles, weather stripping put in backwards, a defective window, and on it goes. We currently stil lhave one window that doesn't stay up. The people who work in the office for both divisions American Thermal and Sahara are rude and unpleasant to deal with (Rosie) though the installers seem normal. I had to have Marvin come out twice to fix their mistakes. The windows were stained and painted in which Sahara sub-contracted the work and my windows were all damaged. We found out the hard way that Sahara/American Thermal Windows does not stand by their workmanship as they refuse to fix the list of issues but started bullying tactics to get paid in full. People need to start speaking up aginst companies such as this one so others can be informed. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!! read more

Horrible customer service. It took over a week to hear from someone about whether or not I needed a new door or if my current leaking door needed to be replaced. The current leaking door was installed by the previous owners of the company (over three years ago), not the current ones. I was told I would get a call back on a Monday, then it became Tuesday then I was told by Thursday end of the day or Friday at the latest I would get a call back. I finally spoke to a manager after I called back numerous times over a week after my initial call to Sahara. I never expected warranty work done on the leaking door....I simply wanted the leak stopped even if it meant replacing the door. After wasting my time with this company I am looking elsewhere to have a new door installed. Another reviewer had a negative experience with the "service dept" and their slow response. If you have no timeline on your project, maybe Sahara is worth a shot. read more

The following is my recollection of the order and details of the prolonged events regarding a window purchase from Sahara Window and Doors: I ordered three custom-made storm windows on November 8, 2014 for my bay window. Was told (in writing) that the windows would be built and installed in an absolute maximum of six weeks. I signed a contract believing I would have the windows in place by the start of the winter and before the Christmas holiday. It's now been twelve weeks and I still do not have my windows. I was never notified that there would be a delay in delivery. After waiting seven weeks I contacted Sahara to get a status on the windows. I was told they did not know the reason for the delay, would have to investigate and get back to me with information. They never called me back. I spoke with Sahara the week of January 5, 2015 at which time they told me the windows were ready (they had never contacted me to tell me this). We set up a definite install date and time for the following week. They never showed. I contacted Sahara again to find out they had canceled the installation because they had not heard back from me regarding a phone message that they had left me the day before the original install date about an earlier install time that was available if I wanted it. I had not picked up their message until after the agreed upon installation time. After learning from Sahara that they could not install my windows for yet another week I asked that my window order be canceled and my $200 deposit be returned. The person that I spoke with told me they would have to talk to a supervisor and that they would get back to me the next day. They never called me back. I called Sahara two weeks later to get a status and they again had no answer for me and said they'd have to talk to yet another Sahara employee before they could respond. The following day (yes, they actually got back to me!) they refused to cancel the order, but offered a 5% percent discount on the windows. After all the frustration and time spent on this transaction I find it difficult to accept Sahara's offer. I have experienced some of the worst customer communication and service ever through this company. I would recommend any other window and door company besides Sahara. read more
