I highly recommend giving the Saigon Noodle Bar a try - the secret is getting out about this little gem of a place. My book club was reading "The Women" by Kristen Hannah which is about the army nurses who served in Viet Nam. We always serve food and try to connect it to our book selection. So, the three of us who were co-hosting decided to stop by the Saigon Noodle Bar for a taste testing and left sated knowing we would be back - and real soon. We tried most of the menu items (Cha Gio, Pho Veggie, Banh Mi Tom, Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, Bun Ga Nuong Cha Gio) along with all their fixings: Sriracha, Plum Sauce, Thai Basil, Mint, Jalapeño, limes and sprouts. Everything was fresh and tasty. I really like the garlic aioli on the Banh Mi Tom (shrimp hoagie). Manager Charlie was patient and attentive in answering our questions about how best to present our food selections at our club session. We returned a few days later to pick up items to serve to club members. I'm always amazed at how quickly they prepare the food. Everyone enjoyed the delicious entrees and Pho (soup). I've been to the noodle bar three times this month and each time I've forgotten to take photos before devouring my food LOL. It's just that good. This week I introduced two co-workers to the restaurant - they'll return real soon too. Regarding ambiance, there really isn't any - it's a small noodle bar; however, the restaurant is in Chestnut Hill's Market Fareway which has various sitting areas, especially outside. Thanks to Charlie and his staff for striving to deliver the best customer experience!

Best pho in Chestnut Hill. Broth is fragrant and everything about this place is authentic. Such a great comfort food. I am sad that they only open Wed-Sun. I haven't tried anything else. I did tried to order takeout for their Goi Cuon (summer rolls) but they gave me egg rolls instead which was disappointing. Egg rolls were decent but wouldn't pay $5-6 for it. Overall, I've been here 3 times, mostly because is nearby.

Saigon Noodle Bar is a great addition to the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market bringing Vietnamese cooking to Chestnut Hill. You can eat at this stand in the market or at a table outside ... or just do takeout as I did. They'll give you a beeper to alert you when your order is ready so you can shop in the market or go buy a beer and claim your outdoor table if you are eating there and the weather is nice. Now the food ranged from great to decent. I loved the Chao Tom! This famous shrimp mixture wrapped around sugar cane is a special treat from the Hue region of Vietnam. At Saigon Noodle Bar it was expertly prepared and the accompanying fish sauce added to its flavors. The Cha Gio were also good and well filled. I like dipping these in fish sauce as well but at this point I was running low of the one sauce portion they included. That became more of a problem to me with my main dish of Bun Thit Nu'o'ng. It was okay but I need some sauce for the noodles, veggies, and salad ... or some seasoning. Fish sauce would work fine but I had used all mine up. Note to restaurant - put in two portions of fish sauce and not just one! Fortunately since I was at home I could make up a nice & spicy Thai sauce (ok I know it's not Vietnamese) and it worked well with the noodles and salad. I don't want to fail to mention that the staff working at this Vietnamese eatery were very friendly ... and probably would have given me more sauce if I had known at the time of purchase how little was included. I would def return to Saigan Noodle Bar but switch up my main course. The Chao Tom, however, I would easily order again!

    Pho

If you are craving pho and live in the Chestnut Hill area, you are in luck! Simply delicious, and the service was wonderful, too.

The lunch gods have finally answered my prayers. The pho was excellent and came out pipping hot while sitting at the counter. Chestnut hill is full of dinning options but for me it was all the same in this part of the neighborhood. Finally a place worthwhile to look forward to at lunch. Good service too, fast and efficient, he knew how to manage multiple tasks with a friendly smile.

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at this place. My first thought was, "Bahn Mi…read morein Manayunk? C'mon, how good can it be?", but as soon as I tasted the food, I was blown away. Truly one of the best Bahn Mi sandwiches I've had in the area, and I've tried a huge amount of em across Philly. Worthy of five stars and worth the trip out to the neighborhood if you're in another part of the city. Fu Wah still has my heart, but this place is incredible.

To the point - it was ok but not that great…read more Mi n Tea caught my eye with their Gettin' Fancy Banh Mi, so I'll start there. I got the filet mignon medium rare and did not remove any of the standard offerings. First bite was just a carrot overload, they say the carrots are pickled but that acidity just wasn't there so it was just carrot flavor. The filet mignon is fried but didn't have a crunch or much seasoning to it so it relatively tasted like a meat was present. The "House special sauce" had such a minuscule effect on the sandwich until the end middle of the half. The bread was standard Banh Mi baguette style roll but wasn't anything remarkable in regard to crunch, softness and taste. Overall I give the Gettin' Fancy an unfortunate 3/10 "The Classic" held up to it a name, it's very much a classic Banh mi, we initially thought the "belly cuts" were going to be more of a thick pork belly but was deli slice thin. Not a big problem but the sandwich lacked depth, I found myself hav3 similar flavor experiences between the two sandwiches which wasn't great but I think that comes from the overuse of the vegetables which overshadowed the meats for me. I give "The Classic" a ok 4/10 The Bulgogi Bowl was pretty good, I think the heavy hand of veggies work here. I do however wish the beef itself was a bit more seasoned as again it just felt like a cooked beef meat and lacked the flavorful addition it so desperately needed. The Bulgogi Bowl gets an ok 4.5/10 The Furikake Fries were the star but mainly because nothing else shined. The furikake seasoning was just thrown on top of truthful really well fried fries. They had a great crunch and were a bit airy, very small but still satisfying. The season didn't do much, I wish that added maybe a garlic oil and tossed them in the seasoning instead of just sprinkling it on top. It came with spicy ketchup which we actually, it's nothing too crazy, very true to the name. The Furikake Fries get a nice 6.5/10 We got 3 drinks but I forgot to snap a picture, forgive me. We got the Matcha Cloud Latte, Mi n' Tea Milk Tea, and some coffee but didn't try that so I can't judge. The milk tea was terrible, very standard Milk tea with zero personality, and the boba was very plain which barely any sweetness. The only grace I will give is that I did order the sweetness level to 75% so maybe the 100% is better but overall it wasn't creaming in the slightest, and was soooo watery. The Mi n' Tea Milk Tra gets a sad 1/10 I'm not the biggest matcha fan but I thought the Matcha Cloud Latte was pretty good. Same 75% sweetness but it was still pretty good. I'm not too well versed on matcha so I don't have much to say, overall giving the Matcha Cloud Latte a solid 7/10 The service was good, not the biggest space, very standard cafe, but not much seating. I was really looking forward to the Banh mis but they ended up being Bad and Mid.

I want whoever is reading this to drop your phone right now, leave your house in whatever you're wearing, and hit the road. Because I want this place to become so popular that it never closes down. If you've never had a mochi ring donut, it's deep fried like a regular yeast donut, but made with tapioca/rice flour, which gives them a more springy consistency and slightly different flavor. (That description doesn't feel quite right... you just have to try them to understand). The icings are also better than average donut shops because they have things like yuzu, black sesame, and taro. They also have more traditional icings like strawberry or Nutella, but super-flavorful. To add icing to all of the icing you'll already have, they serve really great bubble tea. And corn dogs that are kind of hard to describe but you should eat them. And that's a full, balanced meal, folks.

That means I don't have to look for street parking if I want to go here for a quick snack/dessert. Clean: My first impression of this place is...it's clean. With Covid still being around, the two employees that I saw do have their masks on. However, there are no tables if you want to enjoy and eat their mochi donut or try out their drinks inside the store. Mochi Donuts: They taste fresh to me. There are a number of flavors to choose from. And from time to time, they will have new flavors out. The day I was there they had Ube and Mango as their new flavors. Their normal selections I believe are Strawberry, Matcha, Oreo, Nutella, Coffee, Brown Sugar Milk Tea, Black Sesame, Coconut, etc. I've tried all except Matcha. Personal preference that I would recommend is heat the mochi donut for a few seconds before eating so the texture of the mochi would be soft and chewy. Drinks: I ordered their Honey Citron Lemon Green Tea and their King of Oolong Milk Tea. Both drinks are yummy and delicious to me. Definitely recommend to give the drinks a try.
