Loved the spring rolls, maybe the best ones I've had. Greasy in a delicious way. Milk tea tasted like it was made with soy milk which wasn't my favorite but everyone has their preferences. Definitely wasn't bad by any means. My friend got the tofu banh mi, was also super delicious. The ingredients they include on their banh mi is different than I'm used to but the vegetables were cooked really well and the flavor was very good. This is probably the fourth time I've eaten at Saigon Noodle Bar. This time I ordered a shrimp Banh mi, and the salmon Tom Yum Noodle soup. The Banh mi is usually really good, but this time something was lacking. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, but the sandwich was lacking flavor and the roll was very dry and crumbly. The salmon tom yum was for my son, and he seemed to really enjoy it. I got it to go, so I appreciated that they separated the broth from the contents of the soup. I also loved that they didn't skimp on the ingredients. I'd say that the soup stole the show. The biggest disappointment was the customer service. The gentleman who took our order seemed to be having a bad day. A simple thank you, goes a long way. In conclusion, the soup seems like the right move, but I'd skip the banh mi. It may have been a one off, but I'm less tolerant of taking chances with my food experiences when I eat out, these days. read more

I highly recommend giving the Saigon Noodle Bar a try - the secret is getting out about this little gem of a place. My book club was reading "The Women" by Kristen Hannah which is about the army nurses who served in Viet Nam. We always serve food and try to connect it to our book selection. So, the three of us who were co-hosting decided to stop by the Saigon Noodle Bar for a taste testing and left sated knowing we would be back - and real soon. We tried most of the menu items (Cha Gio, Pho Veggie, Banh Mi Tom, Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, Bun Ga Nuong Cha Gio) along with all their fixings: Sriracha, Plum Sauce, Thai Basil, Mint, Jalapeño, limes and sprouts. Everything was fresh and tasty. I really like the garlic aioli on the Banh Mi Tom (shrimp hoagie). Manager Charlie was patient and attentive in answering our questions about how best to present our food selections at our club session. We returned a few days later to pick up items to serve to club members. I'm always amazed at how quickly they prepare the food. Everyone enjoyed the delicious entrees and Pho (soup). I've been to the noodle bar three times this month and each time I've forgotten to take photos before devouring my food LOL. It's just that good. This week I introduced two co-workers to the restaurant - they'll return real soon too. If you are content with the most basic bowl as a snack, or stuck in Chestnut Hill, you can get it here, but you'll still have to head down Cheltenham or to various suburban points for real, satisfying pho. Summer rolls (what they call "Garden rolls"): Almost half the quantity that you would get elsewhere for the price... Cilantro: missing... Thai basil: MISSING. Mint: DON'T EVEN ASK!... Shrimp: for some reason, MISSING. We had tofu instead of the SHRIMP, after we specifically had to deny being vegan and specifically requested they put the shrimp in. The order taker assumed when we ordered a veggie banh mi, that we were vegan... TOFU: cardboard texture... Peanut sauce: CLOYINGLY SWEET and nursery school simple. Banh Mi: College level food. (Sorry if you think that is some kind of compliment after saying the peanut sauce was nursery. It isn't)... French roll, NO - Italian... Carrot: minimal... Cucumber: below minimal... Cilantro: missing... Jalapeno: missing... Mayonnaise: missing... Tofu: like chewed up cardboard. BUT INSTEAD, it had a college side dish of cubic carrot, peas, corn & broccoli spread throughout the roll- like the kind of stuff you get in the frozen food aisle. Saigon Noodle Bar is a great addition to the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market bringing Vietnamese cooking to Chestnut Hill. You can eat at this stand in the market or at a table outside ... or just do takeout as I did. They'll give you a beeper to alert you when your order is ready so you can shop in the market or go buy a beer and claim your outdoor table if you are eating there and the weather is nice. Now the food ranged from great to decent. I loved the Chao Tom! This famous shrimp mixture wrapped around sugar cane is a special treat from the Hue region of Vietnam. At Saigon Noodle Bar it was expertly prepared and the accompanying fish sauce added to its flavors. The Cha Gio were also good and well filled. I like dipping these in fish sauce as well but at this point I was running low of the one sauce portion they included. That became more of a problem to me with my main dish of Bun Thit Nu'o'ng. It was okay but I need some sauce for the noodles, veggies, and salad ... or some seasoning. Fish sauce would work fine but I had used all mine up. Note to restaurant - put in two portions of fish sauce and not just one! Fortunately since I was at home I could make up a nice & spicy Thai sauce (ok I know it's not Vietnamese) and it worked well with the noodles and salad. I don't want to fail to mention that the staff working at this Vietnamese eatery were very friendly ... and probably would have given me more sauce if I had known at the time of purchase how little was included. I would def return to Saigan Noodle Bar but switch up my main course. The Chao Tom, however, I would easily order again! read more

This hidden gem is located in the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market. The food is amazing and delicious. Charlie, will help you navigate the menu if you are a first timer, he's super friendly. I usually get a combo with grilled pork, rice noodles, salad and spring roll. It's ridiculously good. Try it, you'll love it! The pho here is.....fine but just fine. If you're craving pho and you live in chestnut hill or Mt airy, this is your only option so it is what it is but definitely don't go out of your way for it. Here's why I'm scoring it so low: first off, they serve it in flimsy plastic bowls and I think that's gross because of the bpa in the flimsy plastic that leaches into hot liquids. Second, they serve the bean sprouts, peppers, lime, and basil in a little plastic baggie and they were old and slimy. So gross. Basically I think they are set up only for take out/delivery and are pre-setup for delivery. Very efficient but the baggies make the sides gross. Will I go here again? Maybe in a pinch but there is definitely MUCH better in Philadelphia. If they treated their product and produce with more respect they would be pretty good but they don't so it's not. read more

My new go-to Vietnamese spot! Everything was delicious and the owner was very nice to speak with. Pho: Wonderful beef broth base, a mountain of flank steak, and perfectly cooked noodles. Husband had the Banh Mi which was also wonderful, and we shared spring rolls which came with pickled daikon and papaya. I had a terrible customer service experience. I ordered shrimp pho. They brought out chicken pho. I explained that I had ordered shrimp and then the guy who had taken my order came over and ARGUED with me. He asked if I was sure. I said yes. He said "you ordered number 7". I said "I ordered shrimp". He replied condescendingly "seven is chicken". I replied that I had said "shrimp", not a number. He came back a little later and started with me AGAIN saying "are you sure you said shrimp, because I never get orders wrong" (well...ya did). Then when he finally brought me the correct pho, he douchingly said "this is shrimp, you're sure that's what you wanted right". I don't know what this guy's problem was but dude you got my order wrong. You misheard. Let it go for fuck's sake. They gave me a fork instead of chopsticks. Who the hell eats pho with a fork?? Then as he was handing me the pho he gestured towards something on top of it and said "don't worry, it's just garlic". I think he was assuming that I'm afraid of spicy food. I then proceeded to dump Sriracha and jalepeños into my bowl because I am not in fact afraid of spicy food and I don't know why he'd assume that. They also use a lot of styrofoam unnecessarily. We were dining at the counter (it was not takeout). My pho accoutrements and my husband's bahn mi were both served on styrofoam. It's wasteful and not good for the environment. Use a non-disposable plate. It was a weird experience and I won't be back. The food is tasty but it's not worth putting up with the condescending attitude of that employee. read more

Came to visit the area from Westminster, CA which is where you can get the best Vietnamese food in the country. I have to say this very good especially for being a small place in a Non-Vietnamese area. The quality is quite top notch. The broth was very tasty and hearty! We also got the Grilled chicken vermicelli, I'd highly recommend it! The chicken is quite tender and well seasoned. The customer service was amazing, the owner sat down and took time to get to know us. They were very friendly and tentative to our needs. During check out we asked for change for tip and he said don't worry about it since he was also serving us, of course we couldn't do such a thing. He even recommended trying the brewery in the food court because it was house made and it did not disappoint. :D This is quite a hidden gem for Philly! I was disappointed with my recent experience buying food at this food stall. I ordered a #1 that was supposed to come with 2 meats plus meatballs. All it had was one piece of raw meat. This place is a welcome, shining star in the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market! It is probably in my top 3 places of all time for vegetable Pho! Huge pieces of broccoli, cabbage, gorgeous mushrooms and absolutely the very best tofu (not soggy, not breaded/fried). There are even peas, carrots and corn (and not those nasty baby corns from cans that other places throw in as filler). Delish! Love the bubble tea, I wish they had more flavors. I've been here twice. The second time they ran out of bubbles. I highly recommend the matcha. The bahn mi sandwiches are perfect. Pretty decent food options at the noodle bar considering the limited space that they have. I love the market this is located in - there's a ton of different vendors and shops in this place and even on a busy Saturday we were able to grab a spot to eat for lunch. My vermicelli dish was pretty good - the meat was flavorful and tender, the noodles were well cooked, and the crispy egg roll was a great add. I really liked the Saigon bubble tea. The tapioca was nice and chewy which means it was fresh. I think the tea should have had less ice - there was waaay too much so I couldn't even get to all the bubbles and had to pick through the ice to get them.
