Great service and excellent food! I ordered the Pho dac biet Sai Gon (their namesake and flagship pho). It was excellent! I got the small bowl and it was A.LOT.! They also bring out a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and jalapeños so that you can make the dish your own. In addition, at the table is a rack with Gochujang, Teriyaki, and Sriracha sauces on it. Typical understaffed restaurant. They only had one server but he was trying to keep up. The food was good. $1.99 for a warm can of pop and a small cup of ice was disappointing. He brought the appetizers along with the main course. My meal was supposed to come with fried rolls. When he finally did come around and ask everything was, I let him know that I didn't receive the rolls. He apologized and said he would get them for me. After several more minutes, by this time I was done with my meal, I heard him talking to the cook and explaining to him that I didn't receive them. There was some bantering back-and-forth but he came by again and said he would get them for me. After many more minutes, the server finally came back apologetic and said that the cook would not give them to me and when the server tried to fix them himself he pushed his hand away and said no. So basically the cook (owner) said I was a liar and refused to give them to me - I guess he thought I already ate them and wanted more for free... The poor server was very embarrassed and still apologetic. He did knock off a couple dollars and I went on my way. read more

Great pho served quickly. Our waiter was very friendly! The soup was hot and delicious which is perfect for a chilly night. I think this is one of the only pho places in NW Indiana and I was pretty happy. Being from Houston, there is a ton of Vietnamese restaurants and this place was probably in my top 10. I did think that there wasn't enough meat served in the soup especially for the price you pay, but it was still tasty. I also ordered a Thai tea and coconut water, which taste similar to many places that serve it (honestly, could've done without it). The pho in the Midwest is rather expensive compared to what I'm used to in Houston - it's probably because there aren't any other places to go to. I would typically pay close to $8 for a large bowl and here it was almost $11. Drinks are overpriced too - $4.50 for Thai tea and the same for a coconut water... YIKES! I would still go again because I'm curious to see how their Banh Mi are. My fiancé and I have been coming here for about 2 years now, and it's our favorite place to come eat. We've had our fair share of servers, good and bad, but Courtney is our FAVORITE. I was in town looking for a place to grab dinner and this was well rated in the area. When we arrived the place only had two other parties but it took awhile for them to seat us. Once seated we then waited awhile to put our order in. It seemed like there was only 1 person running the front of house. We ordered a pork bahn mi, combination fried rice, combination pho, pork chop plate and a fresh coconut juice. The fresh coconut juice came out after all the other items were brought to the table and to my surprise, was in a can. The pork chop plate was the star as it was a nice sized pork chop with rice and a sunny side egg. The rest of the meal was disappointing to say the least. My bahn mi was the hardest piece of bread imaginable. It was so hard all the way through but the meat was tasty. The combination fried rice had little to no flavor and the pho was pretty average. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you really needed to satisfy a craving and couldn't make it to Chicago. Traveling through the Merrillville area on a Sunday and Saigon Noodle House was only Resturant close to Interstate 65 with a 10:00 am opening - serving lunch. We are from location one hour ahead of local time so was in mood for lunch and we are so happy we stumbled upon this resturant. It's only 4 months old, and it's clean and casual. The menu is pretty extensive with pho (noodle soup) selections and other vermicelli and rice selections. We had a bowl of pho ($8.45 for a large bowl with eye round plus tendon), and a couple of vermicelli dishes with grilled beef and pork chop. Assorted Vietnamese beverages are also served. I love this place. The pho is consistently good, and the sprouts are always fresh. I usually start with some spring rolls and lick the peanut/ hoisin sauce clean. If you get the bun, try the pork with fried spring rolls. Yeah, I like rolled food I guess. The other soups are also tasty, and my mom recently enjoyed the lemongrass and pepper chicken rice. I was overjoyed when first I heard of a Vietnamese restaurant coming to NWI. As far as I know, it is unique in the category. I have eaten Pho in Seattle, in Vancouver BC, in Sacramento, in Wichita, in Nashville, in Vietnam, in Chicago and now in Merrillville. How does Saigon Noodle House's Pho stack up? Delicious broth, spiced appropriately. Authentic taste. I love Pho Bo Vien, with the meatball, and this was the familiar chewy, dense meatball I have come to enjoy. Rice noodles cooked perfectly. Accompanying add-in's a little on the skimpy side. Yes bean sprouts, yes jalapenos, yes basil. Not very much of it though. No cilantro. Portion of soup fair for the price. I've gotten HUGE portions for the same price elsewhere, but then again I usually can't finish those ginormous servings. So we're going to give the SNH Pho a three star. Bahn Mi Thit Nuong...the classic Vietnamese sandwich. I've had these everywhere too, and the SNH version is good. Could use more veggies in them, less soy sauce and more rice vinegar on the pickled carrots. No daikon present, which is a must. Good amount of pork (apparantly you can get Bahn Mi in beef too but pork is the only way to go), grilled to succulence. At $4.50 a pop, a bit on the pricey side, considering you can get monster Bahn Mi's on the west coast for half that. But if you are the only game in town, you can charge what you want and I will happily pay it. Bahn Mi gets three stars. (I ordered two to go, and I will buy them again) Fried spring roll....meh. They were hot, but pretty average. Two stars. Strawberry smoothie, with fresh fruit and tapioca pearls? Good. Pricey at $4.50. Service was dour, but fine.
