So good!! My go to spot in the area. The portion sizes are great and the staff is very friendly

My friend and I split a pho and bahn mi. The tofu bahn mi was very reasonable priced and I thought the tofu inside of it was cooked well and plenty flavorful. This was so first time trying vegetarian pho I've tried, and I was initially a bit skeptical. The broth ended up being good on its own but I added a bunch of chili oil/sriracha just because I like things on the spicier end. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself has got a homey vibe and the staff were friendly[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Service is okay, not super fast. But you're coming here for the food! The pho was so tasty and the broth was sooooo flavorful. It's definitely a hole in the wall, but worth every visit.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I have been here a few times a month and every time I stop in the place is packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like they have over 20 tables inside and I like the vast menu they have to offer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My choices are pho and grilled pork and rice. Service is quick and they occasionally do deliver the food to the wrong table but that is minor problem. [[HIGHLIGHT]]they do spray down the tables with Fabuloso which the smell is sometimes overpowering.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Other than the smell. The food is great and I will still come back for more. Street parking outside.

i've heard really great things about their pho at this restaurant but sadly, I did not opt to try it the first time I visited. I'm hoping to go back again to try their pho, but through this visit, I went with the special bun, which is their rice noodle dish with fish sauce on the side. I was slightly disappointed at how it was a little flavorless, especially the meat and shrimp. My boyfriend got the pork chop with rice and was it too fond of the dish either. The service is extremely fast, however, and this is a great no-frills restaurant

the best pho I have had in Chicago!!! I love pho and this place has the BEST so far. Its always packed but I never have to wait for a table which I love because I come HUNGRY! The service is extremely fast and everyone is so nice. Will be back and bringing anyone I know who loves pho with me!

Love their food. Everyone has been nice to us and [[HIGHLIGHT]]there's a decent amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I especially love their rolls and peanut sauce.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Sanitation department please come over. It is extremely dirty, I used napkins to touch the condiment bottles.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The plastic flowers and random decorations are deplorable[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Spring rolls OK falling apart and the pho broth OK. It was about $70 for two bowls of pho and spring rolls super expensive and dirty,

Was craving some Pho and stopped by here. We got the egg rolls to start and they were thin, had a nice crunch but a mild flavor. The sweet sauce that came with it helped give it that boost they needed. The Pho was the star of the show. A huge bowl of fresh pho with loads of toppings on the side. The broth was rich in flavor, with a generous portion of thinly sliced meat. It was a cold day I got this and it hit just the spot. The toppings like basil, jalapeño and bean sprouts were fresh and crunchy. The service was quick and the price was fair for the portion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe is pretty chill here, it's a more casual sit down.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

5/5. Best pho I have ever had in my life. The broth is so rich it tastes as if it has been simmering for a thousand years. Amazing restaurant and I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Magical experience for my tastebuds.

Loved this no-frills Vietnamese restaurant on Argyle! I came with a friend on a very cold and windy day for some pho and it certainly did not disappoint. First off, the menu is gigantic. There's literally hundreds of items on there (all numbered), although upon closer examination, a lot of them are just different permutations of dishes. I got pho with rare beef and meatballs. The broth was super comforting and the noodles had a nice chew to it (the right level of "al dente" for rice noodles). I also thought the beef slices and meatballs tasted great. Prices are pretty fair for Chicago-standards, though maybe a little high by Argyle standards? I didn't mind. Don't expect particularly warm service from the staff, though you can definitely expect speed. Still, by no means are they rude! Now I really want to come back to try more dishes from their menu! Food: 4.5/5 Price: 4.5/5 Service: 4/5 Overall: 4.5/5

Well, it is kind of tucked away in a desolate area on Canal Street, but still. One of my good friends suggested we check this place out after hearing about it from a co-workers. The only thing I know about Vietnamese cuisine is pho (which for some insane reason, I've never had) and banh mi, which I tried (and loved) while visiting my fave cuz in the Bay. . I arrived early to this very large, beautifully decorated venue on a Tuesday night and was intrigued by the set-up. One side was all tables, the other side was tables and multiple gigantic screened tvs playing Family Feud and the World Cup games. Kinda crazy. I chose to sit on the big screen side while waiting for my date. He called to say he was running late and to get the order started. I had been waiting a bit, so i caught the eye of one of the workers, who came right over. He was so friendly and accommodating and answered all questions. I ordered the green Thai kumquat iced tea, spring rolls and the chicken wings he highly suggested. He rushed off to place the order. Moments later, a couple of distinguished gents walked in and sat at a huge round table cater-corner from me and soon thereafter the nice man who took my order sat down with them. I'm assuming he was the owner for obvious reasons. I gained more respect for this establishment because customer service goes a very long way with me and he obviously cared about that. Our server, a very friendly young lady, brought my drink out and I was surprised to see that it was served in what looked like a sippy cup, with a cartoon design on the lid. Kinda weird seeing as I am an adult, but it was a tasty beverage, nonetheless. My friend showed up as the spring rolls and chicken wings came out. We devoured both, which were delicious and then placed our orders. I went with lobster noodles and my friend got the beef tenderloin pho. Even though my entree presentation wasn't the best, it was a very tasty dish to both of us. The beef tenderloin pho was definitely the star of the show! The broth was fragrant and flavorful and the beef was tender beyond measure. I'm an avid ramen fan but this pho definitely had my attention and I can't wait to try more. Ocean Bar and Grill is such a cute, quirky place that caters to date night diners, groups and families. They were all in there that night and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I know I did. I'll definitely be taking my daughter when she comes home from her summer internship!

Creative Vietnamese Brunch with Standout Wings, Though the Egg Coffee Missed the Mark…read more HaiSous remains an enjoyable spot for a more modern take on Vietnamese cuisine, with quick, efficient, and friendly service in a polished setting. We came for brunch right when the restaurant opened, and it was only about 25% full, which made for an easy and relaxed meal. The crispy chicken wings were excellent -- fried well, nicely seasoned, and easily a go-to order. The bánh xèo was also very good, served hot and fresh with a crisp shell and plenty of filling, though I would have appreciated more leafy greens and herbs for wrapping. The bánh canh cua, or crab noodles, had genuine flavor, a nice spicy balance, and was served piping hot. The crab meat is broken up into the broth, so you do need to drink the spicy broth to get the full benefit of the dish. The beef papaya salad was just alright. Compared with other papaya salads I've had, I wanted more sourness and tartness to give it that sharper, more authentic flavor profile. The biggest disappointment was the cà phê trứng, or egg coffee. After having the real thing in Vietnam, I was excited to try HaiSous' version, but the coffee was not strong or bitter enough to create the right contrast, there was not much beaten egg, and the drink was overwhelmed by a large amount of whipped cream. It came across more like a very sweet dessert coffee than a faithful egg coffee. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would come back. There are some misses, but the stronger dishes -- especially the wings, bánh xèo, and crab noodles -- make HaiSous worth trying for a creative Vietnamese brunch or dinner.

The spring rolls came as a pair, both long. Everything was packaged well. Both dishes were very fresh with great flavor. The chicken cabbage salad was amazingly good, with the cabbage still having some crisp to it despite being mixed with the chicken and dressing. The flavor was a great combination of citrus and a gingery kick, and some fresh herbs on top made it even better. This place is definitely in our short list for delivery, and we look forward to checking it out in person someday.
