Should you be down for grabbing a beer at a dive bar with some rowdy locals though, this may be the place for you after all... With half of downtown Delray's parking taken up by the tennis event, we ended up at the Sail Inn, and as this was my first time walking in the door, I was reminded of Obi Wan'z famous description of Mos Eisley. But it grows on you... The Sail Inn is in every sense of the phrase, a "dive bar". From the cacophony of voices assaulting you on entry, to the sticky bar top and tables, to the competing smells of stale beer, sweat, and too much perfume. We were greeted immediately, and we were served quickly, though there was no smile on the face of our harried bartender, we were just one more round of beers to pour, and though it was a busy night, he was on top of things and no one was complaining. Opting for the spacious outside patio area over the crowded inside, the din was quieted, and we got to enjoy our drinks in relative peace. Be warned this area is for smokers. The only thing keeping this place from getting another star was their weird outdoor seating policy. At 11pm anyone sitting outside enjoying the comfortable and apparently newly renovated patio has to move up into a small space next to the building. Disappointed in a place I once trusted I've been going to Sail Inn for years. I'm not a big drinker but I've always liked bringing friends here when they're in town, especially fellow Veterans as I'm a combat vet from Iraq. I used to trust this bar. Unfortunately, after what happened recently, I won't be going back. After picking up my son who had just returned from military service, we stopped at Sail Inn around 1 AM for a round of drinks before everything closed. The new bartender Kyle offered us a round of drinks in recognition of our military service. I took him at his word, assuming it was a genuine gesture. By the time we closed out at 2 AM we had only ordered four beers and two shots. The tab came out to 90 dollars but I didn't have my glasses and couldn't read the receipt clearly. I just signed it and added a 20 dollar tip thinking the total was much lower. Only later did I see that I was charged 110 dollars which is way too much for what we had. I reached out to the manager Tracy who was there that night and gave me her number. She told me Kyle lives with her and the other bartender. I left her a message explaining the issue but she never responded. That silence says everything I need to know. It's not about the money. I can afford it. It's about trust and principle. This bar used to feel safe and honest. Now it feels like a setup. If you go, check your receipt carefully and keep track of your order. I won't be going back. read more

We flew in Super Bowl weekend and didn't have reservations at any bar so we walked in to sail inn. The owner greeted us and found us a table. It was filled with all locals but they greeted us with open arms. They had a pot luck set up with bbq chicken and a whole bunch of stuff. The owner said .. help yourself it's free. As he said " we are all friends here". Great drinks and fun time . Really great place with a little outdoor place to drink or can drink inside. read more

I had an incident in here in September that was uncalled for. I was at fault but took the high road and left the restaurant before things escalated. The owner said I could not return. For sure a dive bar. A very smokey dive bar. A fun dive bar. I went here with Gianna R. after already having some drinks and sake at other establishments. First mistake. Second mistake was the oatmeal cookie shot. Final mistake was Gianna ordering jager bombs the size of our heads. Needless to say, I have a pretty hazy memory of our time at Sail Inn. However, I DO remember how friendly the bartender was and that I had the awesome company of Gianna. A definite return but only if this is our first and last stop. Today, my husband and I decided to spend an afternoon bar-hopping and we drove by this place and I had remembered reading reviews on yelp that this was a great and cheap bar. We decided to stop in during early Sunday afternoon! Oh boy, we walked in and it is pretty small, probably about 400 square feet. They have 2 dart board games and a golf video game at the back end of it. It looked pretty pitiful and I was very turned off that it is an INDOOR SMOKING bar. We left immediately. Not sure what the heck these people are talking about but this is definitely one of the worst bars I've been to in my life. It all started when I sat at the bar and was greeted with a scowl by the depressed-looking female bartender. New I was there but never said hello or anything else while serving others. Gave her the required 2-3 minutes to change her act and then left. Went to the 7-11 across the street and got a beer for half the price and drank it in the Sail Inn parking lot. Alert!!!!!!! Pay cash only!!!!!!!! I was cheated by the bartender out of $17.50. He presented me with a bill of $27,50. I asked him how much beer cost. He said $3.50. I reminded him that I HAD CONSUMED 4 BEERS ONLY. A gentleman sitting next to me had bought me one of the four beers and the bartender had said one beer was on him because I had ordered an extra large pizza and shared it with the gentleman and the bartender. I told the bartender I only owed him for 2 beers. He came back with a new bill for $10.50., I guess the bartender did not want to give me the free beer he had promised. I added a tip of $10.00 and paid the bill with my visa debit card. i have always tipped well because I am generous, I also saw the bartender chug a shot or two given by a customer and thought maybe he was confused. When I looked at my bank statement a month later, I saw another charge from the Sail Inn on the same day. It was for $17.50. I called the Sail Inn and the woman that answered the same thing I have said here today. She took my name and number and said she would look at the records and get back to me. it has been a week today and not a call from the sail Inn.
