We have been trying to go camping every New Year's Eve for the last few years. The wagon we stayed in was number 1 and is the closest to the bathroom. It had a king size bed and two bunk beds. There was a heater inside, that worked well, even with freezing temperatures at night. We did take extra covers, but all beds had pillows covers and sheets. They also provided towels for 6 ppl. The bathroom was suppose to be only for the wagon guests, and had a code. We did see other people (not staying in the wagons) using the code and going in. Maybe because more ppl were actually using it, they were not maintained clean. There was trash overflowing. We noticed that it was picked up, but it got bad again pretty quickly. We had a great time there. The location of the wagons is in front of the pond, and is separated from the other camping spots. Very pretty. The resort offers many options for family activities and has a restaurant on site.

Sure hope that business picks back up, asi would hate to see this place go to waste. Several spots to pick from to eat from a Mexican, Cajun, American and Asian. Parking is a little tuff at times, you will find a spot eventually but you just have to circle around and walk further. They do have valet though, so that's an option. There is not much shaded sitting areas near the water so an umbrella is highly recommended, or a hat, but definitely plenty of sunscreen and water. The scorching summer hot days in Texas will have you screening if you don't. So pack accordingly and plan ahead.

However, that fell through because of the forecasted clouds so we headed to Sulphur Springs where the forecast was supposed to be better. We thought we would have to stay the night at Love's or something, but ran into this park. They were able to accommodate us, thankfully. They have full hookups, showers, restrooms, propane (if needed), concrete pad to park on, and it's an open area with no trees blocking your view of the sky. If you're into night sky photography, this isn't actually a bad location. I was able to see the Pons/Brooks comet, Orion, Pleiades from here. We actually really enjoyed staying here.

I'm sure I'm leaving out a few other things but they have so much to offer. Each lot has so much space in between the next. Enough space to place a grill, full patio set, fire pit, and raised beds. It is also fairly quiet in the front even though you are close to the highway. Every once and a while you will hear a motorcycle or vehicle but it dies down quickly afterwards. It's about 5 miles or so from I-20 and may 2-3 miles from town. The police department and sheriff's office are less that 2 miles away. But with being so close to everything it is still surrounded by two huge cow fields.

This is after working for a company that has placed my wife and me in over twenty-two different locations. In the last three years, while living here, we have truly discovered how little we need to be happy. The pursuit that we had been chasing for many years--having a big house, a pool, and acceptance from neighbors--was proven to be not worth it. Although we acquired that big house, we found ourselves only using three rooms, and most people were busy with their own lives, not having time to come to our home. We moved here temporarily while exploring our options, yet quickly came to understand just how fulfilled we are being around some of the most honest, caring, non-judgmental, and hardworking families that make our community and country great. Tonya and I keep to ourselves, but many people here have no idea of the impact they've had on our lives with just an honest hello or how are you doing. This is a community that reflects what is missing in America: putting down the phone and appreciating what nature, our families, and those around us offer. I cannot express enough how much Mr. Johnny and Mrs. Patty mean to my wife and me. We have never been close to any immediate family, yet the care and compassion they have always shown us remind us that genuine care for one another can create family bonds. While I will genuinely miss the opportunities to see a great group of friends fishing, laughing, and cooking beneath a beautiful setting sun, along with peaceful evenings spent outside watching the fish and assorted wildlife on the pond, I am grateful to have discovered once again how this community has blessed us as we embark on our next journey. We have always taken the opportunity to move quickly without looking back at where we lived, yet this place will forever be in our hearts and minds.
