Served us well! 5/5…read more Stayed Jan 2018 Darlene T. Pretty inside & out, soothing woodsy setting w/ the amazingly perfect windows to enjoy it. Subdued, tasteful, mostly utilitarian decorating instead of overload you see in some cabins or B&Bs. Hosts literally thought of EVERYTHING you might need, name it. An extremely well-stocked kitchen & bathroom & shockingly generous supply of edibles/drinkables/goodies. We used the chiminea (fat sticks easily gleaned from yard to feed it) & also the little grill, nice. Enjoyed the whimsical yard art, again, liked their tastes. There was even a bottle tree outside to trap bad spirits, must be doing its job, lol. Reception for Wi-Fi and cell good. There were CDs & DVDs & a player but the TV also had cable, so 7 channels, I think, hope you like old Westerns & Forensic Files reruns, we did. Of the few DVDS they had, one was an older fave of ours, The Good Girl, so great to see again. Was cool, rainy weekend so we didn't walk afield, maybe next time but then next time might order up another rainy weekend, works for us. A few times we heard a braying donkey neighbor some distance, didn't bother us, made up for not hearing or seeing much of the wildlife other reviewers talked about. Did see birds, squirrels and an armadillo. When I say hosts thought of everything, I mean it, no, really, you'll find every single little thing you'd ever need, plus books to read (finished one from home and left it & a magazine for the stack) & cabin had a binder of instructions about anything & everything inside the place (check it out, we found lots of crucial info in there) plus a roundup of local things to do, nice mentions of the very fine Caldwell Zoo & the Tyler State Park. We welcomed guidance on how to start shower (pull ring down from faucet, aha!). If I had to say anything remotely negative it's that the steep stairs challenged me as I'm recovering from an injury. But the bed at the top made up for it. What else. Well, it was just nearly too perfect & afraid we might have trouble booking it during later, finer weather. We'd gone there for the singer-songwriter series, this one for the insanely talented Jeff Black who performed at the Old Firehouse. We had to skip out of the performance halfway through & head home early, ever-on-call husband had sudden work obligation pop up so we didn't get all the good out of Edom, our cabin & the concert, but we still left happy. Thx to you, Mr/Mr W

A week before we arrived, I called to let them know that we were bringing a 10lb chihuahua mix. The girl on the phone went over the pet policy, which was pretty standard and understandable. About three days before we were supposed to arrive, my boyfriend wanted us to get there a day early so I called Pope's Landing to see if we could get the cabin a day earlier than planned. The girl told me that they were booked and completely busy, etc. No big deal since I knew it was relatively last minute so I wasn't expecting a "yes". We arrived on Saturday afternoon. The place was pretty empty. I saw one couple walking their dog and a family fishing nearby. I asked the woman behind the counter if they had been busy and she said no. Kind of odd since I got the exact opposite information two days before, so this kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Whatever, no big deal. The woman helped me with finding a restaurant for dinner and the nearest grocery store to pick up some snacks and I was able to rent a boat slip for $10 a night. The cabins look exactly like the pictures. This is a good thing, in my opinion. You get what you see. The floors and sheets were clean, I'm pretty low maintenance so it doesn't take much to please me. The cabin had a full kitchen: microwave, oven, fridge, a grill and fire pit out front, and even dishes and silverware if you're planning on cooking. The WiFi was a little spotty, but the woman at the front desk warned me about that, so at least I got a warning? Besides, we spent most of the weekend boating and fishing. The cabin had Dish/Satellite TV. The TV channels in white were the ones that worked/have access to. I was told that housekeeping would come in the next day to replace our sheets, but they didn't come in until late afternoon. My dog liked the lake and I had to give her a bath. I used a towel to get the dirt off the dog. Housekeeping assumed the dirty towel was because my dog had an accident. I told them that I had to clean the dog. They charged me $250 for the cleaning fee. I'd think that the housekeeping wouldn't know the difference between dog accidents because of the smell of dog waste, but I'm sure they'll believe the opinion of their cleaning crew over my truth. I'd probably lodge here again, if we were to visit Lake Fork again, but mostly because there aren't that many options for lodging. As nice as the place was, I kind of expected more. I guess I wished I had a more pleasant or more welcoming experience..?

Also a huge shout out to Angel as well who is the retreat chef. The food here was so tasty and fresh! I get food anxiety because I am vegetarian and I hate going places where I don't have anything to eat. This place has plenty of options for vegetarians and others with different dietary needs. My friend and I had so much fun here, I am so glad she found it and we were able to go together! I do wish they had some sort of charging station at the retreat as it would have been so helpful since the nearest one is about 30 miles away. All in all I would definitely recommend this retreat to others that are interested!

The state park had multiple clean restroom facilities with water fountains and places to fill bottles. I enjoyed a 14 mile trail run, looping each trail several times. Multiple trails offer lakefront views. The park is open early (6 AM) all the way til 10 PM with self-pay options for entering. At just $5 to enter, it's a real bargain to get outside and get your dose of nature in. There were minimal pests (bugs) throughout the park (unlike my last trip to Broken Bow!), and I must have seen at least 20 deer in the 3ish hour period I was there. It's not Colorado or anything, but for being so close to Dallas it's a perfect retreat. The park staff was very friendly, along with all the locals I encountered on the trails!

They look to have a picnic table and a fire pit. There are some good walking trails, and the fishing is supposed to be good. Some trophy sized bass have been taken from this lake. The staff was helpful and very informed. They have a full boat ramp and a cleaning station. The showers need to be updated in the mens room as they do not drain properly. A fishing pier would be a nice addition as unless you have a boat, you have to fish from shore, and there are not many spots to do so. It is a really nice state park is you are near Dallas.
