I really appreciate the fact that Karissa and her crew are professional enough to give you an honest answer about your anatomy, rather than lie about it to take your money even if they know it will not work. This is why you should ALWAYS go to licensed and APP professionals. So we talked over the rest of my list of wants, and came down to the last one I had a good anatomy for. So I ended up getting my septum done!! I was not super prepared (pro-tip, trim the nose hairs before you do this one or your pics of it freshly done will be scary) and I hadn't really thought about jewelry options for it. Karissa took her time with me and helped me pick out a pretty little captured bead that I was pretty sure I could live with while it healed. (I have the jewelry attention span of a ...oh looook a shiny new piece of jewelry....) As always, she was professional and explained the steps to me, and warned me what to expect during the first few weeks of healing. I am very happy with it, it's healing nicely, and I cannot wait to go, in September, and have the captured bead ring switched out for something else, once it's all the way healed. Let me start out by saying when I went in November to get pierced it was such an easy and nice experience. The location odds clean, the team was kind, and the process was efficient. But as I wrote this 7 months out, I have to say I am incredibly disappointed by the jewelry. I was told the jewelry was high quality, and if it breaks I just need to bring it in to get fixed. The problem is, what happens when it breaks and I don't have it? I got 4 ear piercings in November and as of today, 3 of those 4 have fallen out and gotten lost. The first was in February, the second in May and the third one today. And these aren't cheap earrings. I spent nearly $1,500 for these and to have them disappear after normal wear is incredibly disheartening. Would I go back, I don't know. Maybe. But I have to believe there is a place with just as nice people and less expensive jewelry that doesn't just fall out of the ear during the healing process. read more

Came in because I needed help reinstalling an earring that had fallen out -- I'd gotten the piercing about 4-5 months ago and also wanted to switch from a stud to a hoop while I was there. Simple enough, right? Wrong. They flat out refused to help me with a hoop earring and insisted it had to be a stud or they couldn't assist me at all. They told me I needed to wait 6 months for the piercing to fully heal, and then -- get this -- 2 YEARS before I could wear a hoop. Two years. I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing. The lady at the front wasn't overly rude, but there was a noticeable annoyance in her tone that made us feel really unwelcome. Not sure if she was having a bad day or if that's just her personality, but it didn't help the experience at all. So I went home, grabbed my own stud, came back, and paid a whopping $20 just for them to reinstall it. That's it. $20 to pop an earring back in. I ended up going somewhere else entirely, where they had no problem putting in a hoop for me without any drama. Save yourself the hassle and the $20 and look elsewhere. The 1 star is not for the lady who helped me reinstall the earing, who was very nice and friendly. The 1 star is for the service I received from the lady who helped us in the front. read more

The back of my cartilage was starting to embed so I made an appointment with Nessa to see if anything could be done. I've had this one for over 3 years now and I was determined to keep it if possible. The staff here are super friendly and nonjudgmental, it truly felt like a safe space because I came in feeling a little embarrassed at how gross my piercing had gotten. Nessa was FANTASTIC, her level of care is above and beyond and she made sure I was comfortable while she pushed the earring back through my cartilage. Even afterwards, she spent a lot of time answering all my questions and giving me overall great advice on how to care for my cartilage piercing. They also have a stunning jewelry selection up front. I've seen some reviews about them being expensive, but these are handmade with premium materials and sourced from local jewelers, not mass produced. I'm in love with this little gold fan I found there. Overall I'm definitely going to come back when my ear is back to normal, hopefully I'll see Nessa for a new piercing next time. :) read more

She told me how amazing, professional, and clean her piercer was. She also told me that Make Me Holey uses hypoallergenic materials, which had been a concern for me because several of my older piercings had rejected during the healing process, and I attributed that to materials. Based on my wife's recommendation, I scheduled an appointment to get my septum pierced, on a whim basically. I showed up, got pierced, and left - super quick and clean. That was more than a year ago, and I still love my septum piercing! It miraculously seemed to heal instantaneously, and the size they recommended perfectly suits my nose shape (in my opinion). I'm very disappointed in this WOMAN-owned piercing studio. I came in on 8/28/25 to get my body piercing done and on 8/30/25 I had hemorrhaged! I ended up in the emergency department because I was showing early signs of hypovolemic shock from all the blood loss. The emergency doc couldn't stop the bleeding so he called the OBGYn and eventually a surgeon who threatened to stitch me up to stop the bleeding. Eventually my piercing had to come out because Vanessa had pierced me with the incorrect size barbell. I called the studio and spoke to Jo and she said they can switch out the barbell (my thought was I should've been pierced with the correct one in the first place) my disappointment wasn't the fact that my $250 piercing turned into a $5000 one with the ER visit and all, but, it was the fact that they didn't even call to check back in to see if I was ok and if there was anything they could do. I'm writing this review based on an experience I had at this piercing shop a few years ago in hopes that they've since changed a couple of practices that I found deceptive. While the store itself was clean and the piercer professional, I want to warn new customers. The main issue was their jewelry policy. Prior to being pierced, I was asked to pick my jewelry from their display. I selected three expensive pieces. I was then told the posts were intentionally long to accommodate swelling and that I should return in a few weeks to have them swapped for shorter ones. When I came back, I was told the jewelry was a single, fixed piece (post and top) and I would have to purchase entirely new jewelry to get shorter posts. Had they been upfront, I would have selected temporary, basic jewelry for the initial piercing and bought the expensive pieces later. Instead, I was left with three expensive pieces of jewelry with posts that are far too long for me to wear. The second issue was the tipping practice. The payment screen suggested a tip based on the total bill, which included the very expensive jewelry. Tips should be based on the cost of the service only, not the products. read more

I always will support local small businesses. This was my first time going to a great reputable piercing spot. All of my other experiences in the past were not positive. I ended up with infections. At "Make me Holey", they ensure sanitation and cleanliness. They also offer a follow up appointment and to check in should any issues arise. I went in on Sunday to pick up my seahorse earrings. It should not take so long to pick up my seahorse earrings I have ordered in April. The whole transaction should only take 5-10 minutes. The whole interaction took around 15-20 minutes. My ride was waiting for me and I was on a time crunch. I understand they are busy when I arrived at the piercing studio but I'm just trying to pick up my seahorse earrings I have ordered. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE SO LONG. I have supported this piercing studio for the past year and Taryn is an amazing piercer. This incident actually happened a while ago and I didn't think to write about it until now, but I had scheduled a lip piercing appointment as early as I could at Make Me Holey. I went here because the previous piercing place that I had been going to for 5 years shut down due to the area getting too expensive to rent out. I heard from a friend that they got their nose pierced here without any issues, so I decided to give this place a try. However, I did notice that her piercing jewelry was way too huge for her nose and she mentioned she spent around $120 in total for the piercing and jewelry. Expensive but maybe they'd do a good job, right? I figured since I'm a simple silver jewelry kind of person, I'd just stick to the simple stuff. They make everyone wait outside the building until it is time for their appointment, no biggie. When my appointment time came along, they had let me in, but said that they were taking longer than expected so I had to wait an extra 20 minutes or so before getting pierced. This was no problem as I would rather the piercers take their time with their clients than rush the piercing appointment to get customers out the door quicker. While I was waiting, one of the workers, who I believe was the owner given how she was talking about the place, was trying to convince clients to buy more expensive piercing jewelry than what they had initially came in for. The place does have a lot of nice jewelry options to choose from, but the owner started complaining to a couple of customers about how people get pierced there and they don't choose the more intricate, expensive jewelry. Her words were, "Yeah I spent tons of money on this jewelry collection only for people to just want the cheapest pieces," peer pressuring clients to buy more expensive jewelry. This made me a bit uncomfortable because I don't like being peer pressured into buying things I didn't come there for when I make it clear what I want in the first place. When it finally came time for her to help me figure out which piece of jewelry I want, I told her I wanted a simple, silver bar for my lip piercing without any studs and I want it to be hypoallergenic since I have metal allergies. She immediately brought me to jewelry with studs on them that weren't all silver and these pieces costed about $50-$120 on top of the price of actually being pierced as well. I told her that these weren't what I'm looking for. She insisted that gold would look better on me. I kindly told her no and I reminded her again that I was looking for a simple silver bar. She said, "What about this?" and pulled out a silver bar with a blue stud on the front and it was priced at $90. I declined again and nicely said, "If you guys don't have it, that's totally okay I can get the piercing somewhere else." She looked extremely upset that I did not want to buy the jewelry she was suggesting and started making passive aggressive comments toward my eyebrow piercing for some reason saying it looked infected (it wasn't) and that I didn't know what I was talking about. After she was done letting off some steam, I asked her one more time if she had what I was looking for. She reluctantly pulled out a simple titanium silver bar with no studs on it after going back and forth multiple times. When it was time for me to finally get pierced, the piercer brought me into a room, but noticed my arm was in a cast and told me she couldn't pierce me since my body was using all its energy to heal my broken arm. This makes total sense and I was grateful that the piercer informed me that I shouldn't get piercing done if my body was healing something else because I was not aware of the risks that come with doing that before signing up for an appointment. The owner did not inform me of this when she saw my cast in the lobby. As I was walking out, the owner made another passive aggressive comment saying, "Yeah makes sense since all your piercings look infected (none of them were infected I don't know what she was talking about) and must be struggling to heal with your arm being broken." I said, "None of my piercings are infected." She shrugged and looked all smug at me as I left. For a queer and woman-owned place, the owner was not very welcoming and open-minded to customers like me. As a queer woman myself, I felt extremely uncomfortable being peer pressured into buying jewelry out of my budget that did not line up with what I had stated I wanted from the very beginning. It was very unprofessional and I will not be stepping foot in this place again. As I mentioned in the beginning of this review, I went to a piercing studio previously owned by a couple that was primarily ran by men. Oddly enough, these men were extremely open-minded and welcoming to queer women like me. The difference is shocking when Make Me Holey advertises itself as a safe space for queer people and women. I hope they are different now and refrain from peer pressuring people into buying jewelry they do not want. read more

I walked in with my best friend looking for a replacement for my nose piercing and was guided through a hole (hehe) process of what to expect, their standards for cleanliness and quality of jewelry.
