No one wants to go the the hospital, and the best you can ask for is good treatment and a good outcome, which is what I needed up with. Pro tip, if you let them know you are having a stroke, they rush you right through the ER. Food, honestly, could be better, but the people are nice and the care (at least for me) was fine. All the doctors caring for me and the ICU nurses were great. This is the second intervention for me (I am not the normal stroke patient, and I was back to 100% as soon as I was out of surgery), and apart from the food, there isn't anything to really complain about. read more

My mom died in this hospital because the doctors kept brushing everything off as cancer related when they didn't want to further look into things. The doctors did not listen to what was truly going on or how my mom felt. Some of the nurses were kind, but many weren't. When we did in patient hospice, the charge nurse was so rude and not empathetic at all. When I left for work, they played my mom flat on a feeding tube when I've asked several times, which led to her aspirating and leading to breathing distress and use of breathing machines, which led to her getting a bacteria in the hospital. I recently had cervical spine surgery there. The pre-op and check in went fine, as did the surgery; however, recovery was a disaster. I spent more than 8 hours in recovery with the excuse there were no available beds. Never given a call button or a way to communicate, I was often left and not checked on. I had great difficulty speaking due to the surgery so I could not call out for help. Everything was scheduled well in advance so they knew I was staying the night. within recovery I was moved around and even my doctor had trouble locating me. By the time I got to the room I was in agony. Switching health systems so that I can go anywhere else in the future. More happened but these are the highlights. read more

I came right after work to see my niece who was just born. I am in heath care but I do not come in contact with any more illnesses than the average person. The receptionist did not want to let me in ONLY because I was wearing scrubs but let anyone else in regular clothes in. This is a very ridiculous rule that does not make sense. I was taken to the ER with shortness of breath. I don't remember much of the first 4 hours, so my boyfriend filled me in. I was making this awful sound trying to breathe. They took me right in. IV, blood for tests, then CAT scan. After a while, I was breathing better. The ER staff was receptive and sweet. The only issue was waiting for a bed. But sometimes, hospitals have full wards, I got a bed at night. The staff was attentive. I was woken up every 4 hours for a breathing treatment. I was really appreciative because helped. I took my mother into the emergency room it was around 4am Sunday morning she had chest pain so I pulled up and some lady walk up to us and asked if we needed a wheel chair we said yes now usually the E.R. parking is in front of the E.R. but this time I was not allowed to park there there was lots of spots open but they told me I had to go pack at the front of the hospital visitor parking I myself use a walker and don't walk long distance for the reason that I have severe bone on bone and other severe problems on knees ,I informed them I was handicap and she said there was nothing she could do,so I went and parked my car it was a very long painful walk I finally got to where mom was at bairly able to stand up by this time cause I was In so much pain so I asked the staff why is it that this hospital doesn't accommodate to the handicap people I was In tears I said this is so f... up ,the staff member told the security officer to escort me out,because I used a curse word ,now I admit maybe I shouldn't curse but he acted like I called him out of his name no they was not the case and to top it off it took me a long painful walk to get all the way to the E.R. You have to hand it to nurses, techs, admin clerks, and doctors. They put up with so much flack from patients, and yet they continue to forge ahead. I took my dad into the Saint Joseph ER, and everyone has been incredible despite my dad's poor demeanor. One lady, Alice, noticed my mom sitting in the hall and offered her a warm blanket because she saw she was cold. The experience we had at the hospital was a very positive experience. My Dad needed emergency surgery for a very serious situation and the staff from the ER was very attentive caring and fast to triage and diagnose my Dad. They determined that he needed emergency surgery and took him back right away. The condition my Dad was experiencing was a life or death situation and most people don't survive it. Thank God we came here to Saint Joseph's. After the successful surgery my Dad was sent to the ICU and he's been so well taken care of. The nurses attending to him have been amazing especially Jake. He really has an outstanding bedside manner and he made our family feel welcome and confident that our Dad's care was in top notch hands. He explained a lot of the process to us and took time to reassure us and let us know how things were going and why certain procedures were taking place. He deserves a raise and a promotion!! The skills he demonstrated should be noted and perhaps he should be considered to train new staff to do the same. We are so grateful to have our Dad be taken care of by Jake and Julia and the whole ICU staff. The ER and Surgeons also deserve Kudos because they all saved our Dad's life. read more

I was scheduled to be admitted to this hospital to monitor heart medication. It took three weeks to finalize scheduling; I was in contact with them through my doctor's office consistently. The day I was to be admitted I called to confirm. Several hours later they returned my call and said they did have a bed available and to come in immediately. I arrived at the hospital to be told that they didn't have a bed or a record that anyone called me or scheduled me. This has been a terrible experience. read more

I went to Saint Joseph Hospital on 1100 West Steward Drive in Orange CA. I parked Diana's car in the large multi level parking, on Steward Dr. Diana and I went in to the front desk to get I.D. badges to wait and see how my sister Mickey did during and after surgery. Diana and I waited in the surgery lobby with other members of my family. My sister Mickey fell and hit her head on a hard surface, a few days ago. I went to the gift shop and bought a few items and returned to the waiting area. The nice staff at the hospital were very nice and helpful. My sister's surgery went well, only two procedures were done. After a few hours after surgery I saw her and talked to her briefly. She recognized me, a good sign. I left grateful all went well. While on vacation we had to make a stop in the emergency room. Luckily it was nothing major but we had to be sure. As soon as you get there they have valet parking which helps to ease your concern with the whole idea of finding available parking. Secondly the admission process was done by wonderful people who seemed to be very caring. Once in the waiting room we were taken care of rather quickly which is surprising. We assumed we would be there at least all morning and essentially were there for about 2-3 hours. The doctor who took care of us was really kind and knowledgeable. She explained what was going on and was so nice. If anyone is ever in need of their services we highly recommend this ER. Definitely not the place we wanted to be at but they were great. My mother, father, and I were admitted into here over covid-19. I was treated poorly and got somewhat non bitchy people in the ER. However my dad was sent home prematurely against what he wanted and they gave him a little oxygen finger thing and sent him on his way borderline dying. My mom had no contact with us due to them loosing her phone and they proceeded to tell her that me and my dad had decided to leave her, they would tell us that she was in different rooms, that she was fine and able to walk, and then that she could barely move. I've worked in healthcare for 40 years (no, I am not a physician/clinician - just a management guy.). Of course, being around that long it's inevitable that I'm going to have to use healthcare services occasionally. I was visiting Anaheim recently and needed an ED for a chronic condition - and I ended up having the best health care experience at Providence St Joseph's that I've had in a long time. No muss, no fuss, no extended wait times, no urgent recommendations for diagnostic services that I knew were just not medically necessary (but that are always recommended breathlessly nevertheless.) I wanted to use the traditional treatment protocol - not the latest and greatest. Not a problem. Consummate professionals at this Emergency Department. And they trusted me to know my own body. I have a history of multiple heart attacks and called 911 from home due to increasing and out of control angina and nausea despite NTG and pain meds. The ER personnel were great....kind and attentive with eye contact while speaking to me. The nurses Emily and Joni were wonderful....and seemed to work as a team with each other and Dr. Kear. When I was transported to Tele I met my nurse Britnee. She and the other nurses and aides impressed me with their kindness which I observed with first one roommate and then another who were each noisy and confused...busy night. They described the patients' behavior as being due to their feeling stressed and afraid complicated by their confusion. The nurses' concern was for the patient to feel safe. Wow! read more

This is my 1st time coming in YEARS simply because this hospital was full of improperly trained staff . All I have to say now is WOW!! Everything has definitely changed the staff are more attentive and caring the doctors are also a lot more efficient before it would take hours before I could be seen let alone get any proper treatment. This time I was in a bed with an IV in and met with doctor within an hour!! Now it truly does feel like they're trying to help out instead of making me feel like an inconvenience. St Joseph hospital in Phoenix has always been good to me until last night. I have had 3 surgeries in the last 5 months on my shunt. My neurologist Dr Smyth was concerned about symptoms I was having after my 3rd shunt revision. So he told me to go to ER to have a assessment done on 6/21/18. So following my Dr's advice I went. Terrible mistake, when I first got there they checked me in. I saw the ER doctor ( which I can't remember her name). She seemed concerned at first. They took my blood and got me the tests I needed. And that is where the courtesy ended. I did not see the ER doctor again ( hence why I can't remember her name). The nurse Claudia was to busy talking to deal with me. I was put in a cramped room designed for one person but had 2 people crammed in there in the most uncomfortable chairs (no beds) God forbid you go there because your sick or hurting and need to lie down. Oh but the chairs lay down but don't expect to get comfortable. After my tests I sat for hours 4 1/2 to be exact. The nurse maybe coming in twice. And it wasn't to make sure I was ok and not in pain. Finally got her to call her supervisor where then she told us there was only 1 neuro in the hospital!! And oh yeah he was taking care of everyone in the hospital so I was at the bottom of the list. So possibly 5 more hours just for him to review my tests. Did I mention I was in the ER? While the nurses were so busy my husband over heard my nurse talking to another one explaining​ how it depends on what insurance you have to how fast you get helped. Wow discrimination much? Then she comes in to let me know oops they forgot to do a urine test so if I could cooperate. Umm no. She the comes in with another iv bag. Because I wouldn't pee for them so they were gonna try and force me? I told them I was just going to go home. The chair was killing my back and I still had no answers. She then offered to ask the Dr if I could have something for pain. After 5 hours your concerned with my pain? No thanks getting out of that terrible chair would work faster. Then out of the blue the elusive ER Dr showed up and low and behold she had some results of my tests. I don't know how long she had been sitting on those. I was not under any danger so I decided to go home especially after I was told they didnt still know when the neurosurgeon would be there. I know Dr and nurses work very hard and I am grateful to them. But apparently these two didn't take the same oath. read more
