This place was really clean, but they didn't seem to have everything that they displayed on social media, which was kind of disappointing, but they did have a good amount of meat options in the front. The wait for the plantains was about 10 minutes and it was a little pricey. I paid almost $40 for the plantains, rice, oxtails and a separate order of just rice. The rice was a little over cooked and ox tails were just OK. I'm surprised this place doesn't have more reviews! The food was amazing! I came here for dinner with two friends. They have a bar, options of ready made food, or you can order from a menu. The counter of food has rice, yellow rice, chicken and pork stew, and spaghetti. All looked delicious and ready to eat and the service was amazing! They were attentive, polite, and answered all my first timer questions about Dominican food. My friend and I sat down and took a look at the menu. We ordered: 1. Mangú con longaniza, huevos, y queso frito. Mashed plantains served with grilled red onions served with spicy pork sausage, fried egg, and deep fried cheese. It was so delicious! I'm so happy I ordered this dish as my introduction to Dominican food. I even got to take some home and enjoy it again later. 2. Pargo rojo a la parrilla/ Grilled red snapper. The fish was perfectly cooked and was delicious. Also a large portion. 3. Tres leche cake - 3 milk cake. My favorite dessert! I had to remind them when we were paying at the end for the slice so I took it home. It was nice to try the food out from here. I've never had any of what I got before. I ordered delivery and got the sajhomafongo, the oxtails, and the morir sonando. I really enjoyed the sajhomafongo. They give you a big portion of it too. The oxtails were good, but I felt disappointed by the low amount of meat that you get with it. I guess that's maybe also the nature of the tails though; they don't have that much meat in the tails. They give a bunch of rice with the oxtails, but it wasn't particularly to my liking. I did like the drink, though, the morir sonando. If I had just ordered the oxtails, I'd probably given it a 2, whereas, if I hadn't, I'd probably given it a 4, so that's why I decided to go with a 3. read more

Sajhoma is the best Dominican / Latin Caribbean restaurant in the DMV! My husband (who is half Dominican) and I love this restaurant. The food, the flavors are exceptional and you can't beat the prices. We love this restaurant so much, our rehearsal dinner was held here the night before our wedding this year. The owner and staff are really nice, friendly and accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure we all had great service and enjoyed the food. Our families and friends who never had Dominican food, thoroughly enjoyed it. Always looking forward to returning whenever we're in the area. Haven't been here in awhile and they haven't missed a beat. I finally tried their ox tail and it is so tender! I also had their rice with gandules (pigeon peas), with tiny bits of onions, red & green peppers...I could eat the rice all by itself, it is that good! Also ordered the pernil (pulled pork), tender, moist and flavorful. Had a side order of maduros (sweet plantain bananas), soft and sweet. How I miss NYC with their many Latin restaurants all over but here in Maryland, much more difficult to find, especially a hidden gem of a place like this. You have got to give this place a try! Rudy is an incredible cook and an even harder worker. My husband is Dominican, and he loves this place, which says something about its authenticity. We come here once a month or so and usually order off of the buffet which usually has carne guisada (beef stew), pollo guisado (chicken stew), pernil (roasted pork shoulder), different types of rice and beans, and more. You can also order off the menu (get the carne asada!!). The prices are extremely reasonable, and you will usually go home with enough leftovers for an entire meal. They have a full bar, and have happy hour specials with corona bucks - 6 for $18. Can't beat that! The only downside is that sometimes if you go toward the end of the night, they don't have all the food items available. When they run out, they run out. I'm assuming they do this so they don't have to throw food away because I'm pretty sure all food is fresh every day and not kept overnight. We love this place so much that we ordered there for our 50 person rehearsal dinner - they did an awesome job. We also just placed an order for Christmas Eve for some of the pernil. I was completely thrilled to hear there was another Dominican Restaurant in Baltimore, so I rushed to try this place. The decor is modern and the inside space is fairly large. Has a contemporary New York-ish feel with splashes of pictures of the beautiful DR countryside displayed around. In terms of food, Sajhoma has some serious work to do. With a picky Dominican husband who's has aunts, uncles and grandmas that cook their a** off, I'm sorry to say, I was really disappointed. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt...They are new here in Baltimore but remember, Baltimore foodies are just as profound as New Yorkers, eh hem... So hopefully they will get "it" together sooner rather than later. Flounder- dry as the hills. Heat lamp made the fish in-edible. Mofungo & Pastilitos - dry as the days are long. One of my favorite parts of Fells Point is the different styles of food - especially those from Latin America. Sajhoma (pronounced SA-homa) is one of the few Dominican restaurants in the city and doing it all in a fast casual style. The food is displayed kind of cafeteria style in the back. The spot is huge and has a modern style with the wood floors and faux brick wall. The best part, they serve drinks. I was lucky to spend the night with a wonderful group including Andrea, aka, bmore_hugry (follow her, she eats everywhere). We started with some grilled fish - tilapia, I believe - and roasted veggies. Everything was cooked perfectly; veggies were crisp with a little crunch and the fish was tender, but a little over seasoned with the salt. While the bloggers were all taking pics of the fish, I was able to try the various styles of mofongo. I was a little confused by this dish, because it isn't the plantain filled mofongo I was used to from Puerto Rico. Turns out these guys invented it, so maybe they are the ones who have it right. I tried the pork, the chicken and the original versions. The meat is mashed with fried green plantains and then served with fried cheese! Flavor is good, but the dish is a little dry. That is, until you put their fancy red sauce on it; it is elevated to a whole new dish. My favorite dish of the day was this avocado salad. Huge chunks of avocado, red onion, tomato, cilantro, and a house vinaigrette on top of a bed of romaine. Yum. Light, tasty. Next was the roasted chicken and rice. I will be ordering this most often. Chicken is nicely seasoned and juicy. You do not have to get an entire roasted chicken. You can order a quarter, half or the entire bird. My favorite was the little cuban sammich bite. If you like cubans, go here, get this. I am not the biggest fans of cubans, and even I liked this one. Mustard, pickles, crispy bread. Lastly, they have a desert I love. Tres Leches - glorious. The Three-Milks cake is a moist yellowish cut of cake that is topped with a whipped-cream frosting and served in a bowl of extra creamy milk. I didn't love the whipped cream top, but the cake. Yum. This place always has the most comforting food. I love coming home to a nice meal around good and smiling people, I've never been in there without seeing smiling faces. I've had the pork chops, stew beef, steak, chicken(not really a chicken fan in general), ribs and I have enjoyed all my meals. The rice and peas, tostones and the potato salad favorite staples, one day I will order off the menu. My boyfriend ordered the snapper he left nothing but the bones lol! I come from Washington Heights in NYC. I was excited to find this restaurant and especially wanted to try it since the owners came from NY. Today I ordered, via Grub Hub, the Tres Golpes. They gave me fried eggs when I asked for scrambled, salami when I asked for longaniza. The mangú was too wet and soupy. Not only that, in NY the amount of food wouldn't be more than $10.
