Sakana Sushi is one of my go-to restaurants in La Crescenta. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you walk inside there are beautiful cherry blossom decorations, tables for many parties, and cozy corners for small guests.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On the menu, I reccomend their Hama Hama Oysters, Salmon, Tuna, and Albacore Nigiri, and Udon Soup. For dessert you have to get their green tea ice cream, so good!! One note I have to appluad is their service. I come to this resturant with a Filipino family who speaks loudly and laughs a lot- and they match our energy which I appreciate a lot because I get embarrassed.

Location 4: On the North side of Foothill Blvd in La Canada Flintridge, California, east of Ocean View Blvd. Located in a shopping plaza with plenty of self parking. Venue: 4: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Large modern venue with tables and booths. Large sushi bar. No outdoor seating[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (you will see a few pictures of a heated patio on Yelp, but those belong to a different Sakana location). They take reservations on Open Table which we used, but when we visited on a Friday evening they were about 60% empty. Service: 4: Servers are friendly, polite and helpful, but a little disorganized. We had to remind them about one of our appetizers four times, and it finally appeared at dessert time :D Food: 3: Large and diverse menu of sushi, sashimi, appetizers and specialty rolls, as well as Japanese and Korean cooked items. Excellent, top notch high quality nigiri and sashimi. I had the Albacore, the Saba (Japanese Mackerel) and the Hokkaido Scallop sushi and all three were excellent. Unfortunately, the appetizers and the specialty rolls were heavily drenched in sauce, and in my humble opinion lacked in taste and character. We ordered the Sunny Roll, the Double Yellow Tail Roll and the 911, and they all tasted almost the same. Prices are more or less on par with other higher quality Japanese restaurants. Drinks: 4: Beer (on tap and in bottles), wine and sake. The Last Word 4: Nice, solid option for casual sushi fix if you are in the area. Best to stick with sushi and sashimi and not the rolls!

This Japanese restaurant consistently serves quality sushi and other Japanese specialties. It definitely is one of the top rated in the area and that's why I give it a 4.8 overall. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is clean, there is a sushi bar and lots of tables. The environment is open and airy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is friendly and I have never waited long for my food to be delivered. I have dined at this restaurant many times and have always been satisfied. The sushi and rolls are fresh. My favorite are the entrees that are served in a bento box with a main course, salad, a California or Spicy Tuna roll, rice, picked vegetables, a sautéed of onions, scallops and mushrooms and tempura shrimp and vegetables. It's a great value. I highly recommend this Japanese restaurant.

HUGE portions!! We came here for lunch and ordered the Chirashi bowl and Salmon Teriyaki bento. We were seated quickly by polite staff, not super crowded in the restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean tables and store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Chirashi bowl is perfectly balanced, with lots and lots of fish but also lots of salad greens and onions with slightly tangy dressing to balance it out. It also came with rice. Very filling and generous amounts of fresh fish. The salmon teriyaki was also very tasty. It came with rice, tempura, and other side dishes like salad. My first time coming here, and I was very pleasantly surprised by the price point and the huge portions. Fresh high quality food. HIGHLY recommend!

Whenever I feel like a sushi bento for lunch at home this is the spot I visit. Great lunch special deal. Huge amount of food. I forget the price but I think it was around $25. Fresh quality fish.

We had some friends visiting who wanted sushi and we tried Sakana. It was a busy Friday night but we were seated fairly quickly and our service was great. All our fish was fresh, beers were cold and food served hot. Parking lot was full so we decided to park in the car wash lot next door, others followed as it was closed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was clean, nicely decorated and we will definitely return.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Enjoy!

I drove from Buena Park to La Cañada last Saturday just to eat at Sakana -- and honestly, it reminded me why I don't mind traveling for good food. Instead of wasting money on mediocre places nearby and leaving disappointed, I'd rather drive an extra 30 minutes and enjoy something that actually makes me happy. People say the owner is famously picky, and maybe that's exactly why the quality here never drops. If anything, the food and service keep getting better over the years, which is unbelievable. If they ever open a location in Orange County, I'd be there all the time. But until then -- trust me and just go. Especially if you really know and appreciate good sushi, this place is a must-visit.

Fresh sushi, good service, and cozy seating areas. The booths are most comfortable, and the sushi bar is the prettiest. Decent value for your money. Parking can be tight because of the Korean market, but there is regular turnover of parking spaces (which is a good and bad thing, because not everyone is equally skilled at parking).

I never write bad reviews but I am just so upset at the experience I had ordering from here this past Friday especially because it was a way of treating myself after having a bad day so I was looking forward to it all day. I placed an order for 2 rolls over the phone and made sure to specify for "NO CUCUMBERS" as I am highly allergic. As seen in the picture of the receipt, the specification for no cucumbers was listed in the order. However, I was utterly disappointed when I opened my order when I got home and saw that there were cucumbers in both of my rolls... It wouldn't have been a big issue for me if I simply didn't like cucumbers because I can just take them out and still eat it. However, I have a severe allergy and I can't risk eating around it because it will trigger a reaction. I was so disappointed and upset when I realized I just wasted nearly $50 on food I couldn't eat. I thought about going back to the restaurant and requesting them to remake my order but making that trip would've been a 30 min drive round trip which at that point, I was tired from a long day at work to do all that. Please make sure to double check orders before sending them out because if I didn't check, it would've been very dangerous for me.

Bento Box with Galbi, Tempura, California rolls, rice, fruit and salad as well as Miso soup

The server, Jhonell, is just amazing!!! He has been our server for many years now. You definitely should ask for Jhonell to be your server at Sakana Sushi Restaurant in La Cañada. He serves you your Korean and/or Japanese cuisine very quickly. The food is extremely fresh!!! I ordered the Korean beef ribs (galbi in Korean) bento box with miso soup, rice, salad, California rolls or spicy tuna rolls and shrimp and vegetable tempura. The galbi is as authentic as the galbi I dined on in Korea. It was all very delectable and all of it was authentic as well as we have traveled to Japan and Korea. Jhonell is very friendly and courteous. He also is very quick to bring out drinks and any food you have ordered. And yes, the reviews that state that the sushi here is very fresh are correct!!! My husband had the albacore sushi and don katsu and enjoyed his meal as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is pretty minimalistic but televisions often show sports games with any volume on as contemporary music plays throughout the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, it is not too loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We went on a Monday night so parking was easy and free. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I suggest not going on Friday or Saturdays at all as it can get too busy!!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You also can schedule birthday parties ahead of time like we did for our close friend and my colleague that we think of as a brother and his partner as he celebrated with us as well and also is a close friend and chosen family as well!!! They will learn your names as well at this restaurant. Also, during the week, lunch specials in terms of bento boxes are reduced in price compared to dinner bento boxes. They are very reasonable in comparison!!!!!!! I highly recommend this La Cañada restaurant as it is a fine dining experience to enjoy!!!

    Barbara R.

Amazing place! I came here for the first time for my birthday lunch and it was fantastic! Portions are very generous as you can see and it was delicious! The staff was also very nice and the service and setting was great. Zero complaints, will definitely come back again! Five stars! Six stars!

Amazing sushi and big portions. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is gorgeous[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and attentive service. Def coming back.

I been to many top sushi restaurants and I will say this place compares in terms of freshness and quality. Even appetizers are amazing, I highly recommend the soft shell crab and the Las Vegas roll. All the sushi were fresh and I was surprised to find that you can request real wasabi and it comes on certain orders as well. Staff are amazing super kind and friendly. Been here multiple times and never had anything bad to say. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibes are cool plenty of seating options and overall a great experience I will always come back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

So, $27 for an entree of Pasta seemed a bit overpriced expensive given the portions that could have been amplified at nearly minimal cost to the restaurant. I get it 'tho, rent is high and also strategically if you have small entrees then appetizers and other items would be purchased to get the average order size and revenue up as a smart business strategy. So the only comment I have is about the constructive criticism of the portions to the price. As it stands, it feels like what they served was about a $12-15 plate at most in "comps" value to what you might see at peer competitors, 'tho this is gourmet quality. If they doubled the portions served for $27, I wager they're profit margins won't get hurt on the cost of goods (food and portions) but I'm betting the customer care and satisfaction scores will bring back loyal customers with frequency. The service was friendly and atmosphere was nice with the outdoor seating. There's a sister restaurant, across the way with indoor dining.

We had been to this small quaint and beautiful little restaurant in Montrose before and wanted to try it again. We loved their little Spanish style courtyard, the tapas, paellas, and the setting felt so good for little date night after being away for so long. Unfortunately things did not go as planned. We made reservations for 7:15pm and were hardly even greeted by the hostess that seemed she'd rather be elsewhere then to welcome us to Casa Cordoba. Problem was though even after setting the reservation time and arriving exactly at 7:15pm we weren't seated for 15min even though we saw our table being cleaned and set and just sit there unoccupied for over 15min. So we waited. When we finally sat down...our server didn't come by for another 10-15min. But we were patient and we waited. Alvin finally came -- brought us water and opened the wine we brought. A special one for this type of occasion (corkage fee was $30). We ordered the paella with squid ink and seafood since it takes up to 45min to prepare and sat down to enjoy the wine and take in the setting. That night they had live music -- a guy on an acoustic guitar playing some cool songs, from Maroon 5 to Backstreet Boys on a 12 string...at least it was live. It was pleasant. The server didn't attend to us much and just had an air about him. Idk -- they may have been super busy but wasn't sure. Finally the paella came. It was...good. Not plentifully. 7-8mussels, a quarter of an octopus tentacles, and a couple of calamari. If you're thinking that much it and rice then you're right. It was mainly rice. No vegetables accompanying it but that's the dish. That was $57 for the small version. I've made paella before. It takes time and it's a production -- but at least at home I can make one for half that price for 8 people. Maybe that's why we don't go out so often bc it ends sometimes like this. We expect a nice meal, a welcoming host or hostess, a server who enjoys the food and atmosphere and makes us feel at home, and food that we could never prepare at home. It's suppose to be an experience that you are happy to pay for. This wasn't. We were disappointed and just felt like wanting to leave. The last straw was when I signed the check on a toast machine and asked for the printed copy. The server, Alvin just left the toast machine with us and left -- attending to others and leaving us with this machine. All I wanted at the end was a thank you for dining with us and the printed copy. We had to flag another server for that copy. He eventually came, with disdain written all over and just handed me the copy, as if I had taken his time to get my the receipt which I asked. That pretty much did it. I asked to speak with the manager and was told--"oh sure. I can get him--he's the chef, give me a minute." I was floored!! No wonder!!! The chef. The back of house manager is also the front of house manager!! That says a lot. You're front of house and your guests are not being taken care of? What kind of restaurant is this? With these prices? Regardless that was it. We left -- had some great ice cream and spoke about the whole experience all the way back home. Great date night eh? Not returning.

Being in a party of 4 girls coming from high tea, we were dressed in elegant dresses, first comment was asking if we were coming from church, followed by eye flutters, short "okay" with an upward inflation to a joke about the day, an impatient comment about hurrying up and trying the wine while we were talking, asked for water when we were out, were left to pour the rest of our wine, didn't ask how the food was all the while was attentive to the table behind us, the cherry on top comment was when we were discussing the bill at the end, he was hovering at the table behind ours, then when we were ready, we asked to split the bill into 2, my portion on mine and the rest on another card, he then said "this isn't like a drive through, we can't do it that way" so I asked him to explain his comment, cause it was passive agressive and rude. After he wasnt able to becuase he wasnt expecting me to call out his rude comment, I had to then break it down and specify what I had ordered, he then sold "okayyyy....so how much, cause we don't itemize?" I had to again express for him to specify how they do it cause he has still yet to explain where his attitude is coming from and explain how they do their check splits, from my understanding it just felt like he wanted to play dumb and make me to the math, one I did he was like "ohh, okay" should have asked for the manager but we paid and left, I hasnt had this experience before being a returning customer, but he needs an attitude adjustment as his attitude was completely out of pocket. Do better Manuel, you alone got your place of work a 1 star. The rest of the staff was kind, facility beautiful and food and wine was good. This restaurant is not reflected in the 1 star.
