Maybe the best omakase experience I've had to date! For the little town of Montrose, this place is on par and exceeding other restaurants in LA. From the fish quality (excellent), the pacing of the dishes (perfect) and the service and presentation (spectacular) - truly a memorable and special evening. If you're looking for an omakase experience - this one would be what I recommend to anyone. Looking forward to another visit.

We were impressed by the quality of the sushi and all the food. We've never tried Hokkaido style omakase so we loved that they prepared some new ingredients and flavors on the starters. We loved watching the chef prepare each course with time and care, and everything was delicious. They're relatively new to Montrose and we were so impressed to find this kind of quality here, especially at this price point. Soft chatter ambience and good for a more private dining, a great place for a date for foodies (omakases take time so maybe not for the first date). I could tell that the omakase experience is new to the neighborhood seeing some of the reactions to the courses coming out. Private-like bar-style dining and Ample parking in the back.

3 kinds of sashimi: scallops, ahi and I didn't hear the last one but it tasted like halibut. All served with its own spices.

My family's second time with Sushi Nakata's omakase. The first was during its soft opening, which was delicious but I ended up feeling very full afterwards. This time was exactly the right amount of fish and rice, particularly the rice, which was kept to a minimum, my personal preference. Everything was chosen by Nari-san with precision and excellence and I loved seeing the cuts of fish prior to him slicing into them. Chawanmushi is steamed hot to begin your meal, all served in a Hokkaido-style presentation. I've never tried Fire Fly Squid before and it was a revelation next to the monkfish liver and raw oyster. Most of the sushi prepared did not require additional soy sauce so it was very easy to eat, especially with your fingers. I am so happy we now have a fine omakase restaurant in the area. My only hope is that people in nearby cities do not discover it.

Where to begin? Nari san (the sushi chef) prepared the most amazing sushi we have had in a very long time. The quality, the freshness, the taste was incomparable. We would typically drive a good minimum 30 minutes outside from where we live in order to have quality sushi (Scratch, Sushi Nishi ya, Katsu-ya, Yuzu) This will not be the case any longer. If you want directly amazing sushi from Hokkaido Japan, without fluff covering the flavor, where the fish shines on its own because it's that good, this is the sushi restaurant to come to. Anu San, his wife, is extremely kind and attentive. The uni, monkfish liver, toro, sweet shrimp, handroll, was incomparable. The seaweed was fresh and crispy. Every detail was thought out, and their pride in the quality of their fish shone through. I couldn't wait to eat, so I didn't take enough pictures haha. We cannot wait to go back. Wow.

Amazing omakase experience! Every piece was so fresh and thoughtfully prepared -- you can really taste the quality and care in each bite. Service was attentive, and the pacing was perfect. Easily a great omakase dinner -- can't wait to come back!

One of the most enjoyable food experiences I have ever had. The Chef was very impressive in his preparation and presentation of food. The fish was super fresh and flavors out of this world. Just look at the pictures!!

We came for a friend's birthday party, and DEVOURED. Started off with the Matcha IPA beer (green deliciousness, a bit strong on the hop + matcha so beware), and ordered a few appetizers to start--edamame, karaage, seared albacore with onions, yellowtail jalapeño, ceviche (omg so good), shishito peppers--everything was amazing! And we were off to a great start. We ordered a few rolls, and sushi, and hadn't realized that each portion came with 2 pieces so we definitely ate a lot. Everything was very fresh, and the quality was amazing. As if it couldn't be better, the service was superb! The owners came to check on us multiple times, ensuring everything was according to our liking and nothing was amiss. Can't believe it was my first time here! This restaurant deserve more business and highly recommend. Obviously we will be back this restaurant again sometime soon.

This spot is truly an absolute gem. We were warmly welcomed by the host and seated right away at the bar. The chef greeted us personally, and although there was a bit of a language barrier, he was incredibly sweet and patient while explaining each course and where the fish was sourced from. You could really tell how much care and pride went into every piece. Everything tasted so fresh and beautifully prepared. Each course flowed perfectly into the next, and by the end of the meal, we were surprisingly very full (which doesn't always happen with omakase!). To top it all off, we were treated to a homemade matcha cake with a candle, which was such a thoughtful and memorable birthday touch. It wasn't too busy during our visit, which we actually loved because it made the entire experience feel more intimate, just like other omakase experiences we've had. Highly recommend this place for celebrating special occasions, anniversaries, or birthdays. We'll definitely be back.

So after the gathering ended, I went upstairs to Sushi Sasabunè since I knew from my previous experience at their Brentwood mother restaurant to be excellent. The interior is "Shibui" which in Japanese can mean artistically austere, minimalist. There is a Sushi bar, but it is reserved for Omakasè (oh mah kah seh) only. So, I couldn't sit and interact directly with the counter Sushi chef that day who was informative but aloof which is typical in Japan. I only spoke with the chef upon entry to determine what kind of specialties that he may offer. I asked for only Èdo Maè (eh doh mah eh) Nigiri Sushi that had either unusual ingredients or techniques which he delivered in spades. My young waiter né Hiroshima made up for the lack of the Sushi chef's personality delivering the various rare item Sushi with a warm conviviality. 1) Shiro Maguro/Albacore: Ultra thin, pinkish orange meat that is naturally found in between the sinews which have to be extracted by hand with tweezers. Double layered on top of hand formed Nigiri (nee ghee ree) Sushi rice, it is plush, velvety, melt in your mouth with delicately meaty Umami. Truly a food for the Gods. 2) Nodo Guro: Black throat perch that is again even more plush white meat to the point of being a touch mushy with a soupçon of sweet meatiness. To add contrast, the skin is flamed seared to add firmness and smokey accent. 3) Katsuo: Bonito is wrapped & cured in rice straw. Then the straw is burned to add light smoke. The dark crimson meat is satisfyingly beefy-meaty with taste of blood minerality from being aged like a well aged steak. The Garlic Katsuo Dashi Shōyu/soy sauce, which also seems rich in Katsuo Dashi fond de cuisine, is a good complementary addition as well as a bit of refreshing medicinal freshly ground ginger root to offset the complex Umami flavours. 1-3a) Fuku Komachi Sakè (sah keh) from Akita, Japan is astringent, dry, cleansing with fruit notes of green grape, loquat, unripe & ripe pear, overly ripe peach. There's a bitter & aged aftertaste but later, a sweet note, touch woody. Overall, a very sophisticated Sushi restaurant that has specialized cuisine for those who are interested in educating their palates. No county fair rolls that use thick sweet eel sauce, mayonnaise, Sriracha hot sauce. 4+ stars.

They have a few options for us gfdf folks. They seem to know the menu well enough to make specific suggestions. I went with the Luxe 3 roll with HYE, negi and truffle salmon. Wow-- each one was delicious and didn't even need soy sauce (they do have a gf shoyu). I was so impressed, I ordered an additional blue crab roll. You have to eat them fast- every second counts as the nori softens. The chefs were really friendly as were the staff. Everyone will probably compare this to Kazunori, which I haven't been to yet but my friend said it's comparable. Give it a try! I'll definitely be back.

The menu isn't too expensive, which is nice so you're not paralyzed by indecision. You can either go for à la carte or go for hand rolls sets. My friend went for the Taste of the Bar set and I did the four hand roll set. We shared a blue crab don. I say, if you're gonna come here, you should just go all out and do the taste of the bar set. I did the four hand roll set and it came with pretty standard handrolls that you can kind of get anywhere. (if you like predictability then this is a great set.) however if you want to try what The Bar is better known for, then the Taste of the Bar or the Lux set gives you a good idea of their special handrolls. The salmon truffle isn't too truffle-y and the HYE is indeed good. I'd recommend going for these instead of standard handrolls since you can literally get those anywhere. The blue crab don was good but nothing so spectacular that I'd have to go out my way to get it again. Good to have once and it was nice to go back to between handrolls for the avocado bits. But otherwise I'd skip in the future. Nice experience. Cute place while at Americana. They do not validate parking.

Some of our fav dishes to order: yellowtail handroll, toro uni caviar truffle sushi (my fav), Kama toro (fiancé's fav), glazed shrimp, mushroom medley, pork belly skewers, sweet shrimp, Jorge's special (live scallops), ikura sushi, firefly octopus (seasonal octopus that comes out only during cherry blossom season) which Chef Jesse introduced us to along with the Kama toro and we end with dessert: unagi, snow crab hand roll &/ blue crab hand roll. We wanted to get a little bit of everything. To start our meal, we went with chicken karaage and their rice cake sampler. The rice cake sampler was basically crispy rice with varied minced tuna/lobster/shrimp and the karaage was very nicely fried chicken thigh served with a dynamite sauce and a lemon wedge. I got an order of red snapper nigiri and Hokkaido scallop nigiri and these were delicious; however, it was quite heavy on the yuzu and soy sauce. Their handrolls are what they do best here. The best handroll we had was their seared scallop handroll, which came with Hokkaido scallop, shiso leaf, rice, and yuzu. Equally memorable was their Seaweed special, which came with ikura, minced negitoro, shiso leaf, and uni. In both of these handrolls, what was impressive was how much protein they stuffed into the roll. They put so much into a handroll, it was almost like a mini sushi burrito. We came here from Long Beach; however, if we make the drive back to Glendale to Seaweed Handroll bar, we will definitely order more of their handrolls as they have great flavor balance, fair pricing, and they're very filling.
