Was on my way passing through and needed to grab something to eat before heading more in and had seen Sake Blue which caught my attention on Apple Maps I turn on the street and saw a street parking close by. They had a grocery store across that has a parking lot but not sure if it was just for the grocery shoppers only. The crew was taking a break when I walked in but there wasn't any customers. I asked to use the restroom from my far drive and that would give them time to get ready for a customer to order. My favorite choice of sushi is the lion king roll so I got that and enjoyed a few bites while the person I was visiting ate the rest. We even enjoyed the deep fried California roll. My bento box was ok and I ate the rest the next day which tasted better the next day oddly but good. They are small very intimate so a date night spot or small group of 4 will enjoy. Sooooooooooo ..... My boyfriend and I are huge sushi lovers, and we have been to multiple places and this place has the most authentic and tasting sushi rolls we have ever had!!! Fantastic little sushi spot in Orinda! I came here with a large group of 8 for my daughter's birthday, and they were so accomadating. The service was fantastic - everyone is friendly, and they were all so sweet to my 6-year-old on her birthday. The food is fantastic as well. Good local sushi spot! We came here for early dinner on a Friday and there were plenty of seating available. My husband got a chirashi bowl and I went with the nigiri / sashimi combo. We also shared an Orinda roll with salmon but I would have been full with my main. The fish was pretty fresh and there was a good variety of different types. My parents have raved about this place for ages, so now that I've moved back to the area, I finally had to give it a try for lunch! I ordered the lunch bento box ($22) to-go through their website. While online payment isn't available yet, you can pay at pickup. The estimated wait time was 35 minutes, but my dad assured me they'd be quicker--closer to 15 minutes--and to my surprise, he was right! I waited in my car and got a text when my order was ready. The lunch bento offers a great selection--you pick two items, and it comes with a salad, miso soup, and two pieces of gyoza. I went with the five-piece sashimi and beef teriyaki. The sashimi was the highlight--fresh and flavorful. The beef was tender, though the teriyaki sauce was a bit on the watery side (not overly sweet, which I appreciated). Had dinner here recently and it was quite tasty. We had the hamachi Kama which was tender and moist and yummy. We also had the fried chicken appetizer which was a generous and crunchy and tasty dish. We also had a California roll and some tuna sashimi. The fish was fresh and delicious. Our hostess and server was very competent and friendly. All in all a very pleasant and delightful experience. Really reasonable priced and good food in a chill casual spot. I liked the Sake Blue roll and Summer Special (quail egg, oyster, ikura shooter basically). The fish was good quality on the nigiri- but they put WAY too much rice. But that's an easy fix while eating. Will surely return. read more

The restaurant was filled with the family who works/owns this facility at the time we went. So, they were prioritizing all food orders for their tables. Leaving long waits for general customers. This might be my favorite sushi restaurant. We usually come every Friday at 4:45, to avoid the crowds. I usually get the 49er roll, miso soup, and tempura. The food is really fresh and tastes amazing. The miso soup broth was good but I wish they could make the tofu cubes bigger and add green onions for more flavor. The tempura had many different kinds of vegetables in it. I don't even like broccoli but I love it there! The sauce is so flavorful and they gave us a generous amount. The 49er was awesome, the fish was really fresh and it was very neatly wrapped so it didn't fall apart. I also really loved how cute the soy sauce bottle was. The people working there were really sweet and never let our glass be empty. They had fish painting all over the walls which I liked. When we went out all the employees near me all said have a nice day, which made me feel special. They even give you amazing candy! My family went here because we had heard it had opened not long ago. The location is quite convenient and the food is pretty good. The restaurant is very small, and it looked like there was only one server there that day. The food didn't take that long to arrive, and the waiter was polite. Mussel I love the sauce that pairs with the mussels. It pairs the meat really well. This appetizer was the highlight of the meal! It did come last because it takes a while to prepare, but it was still really nice. Hamachi Lover Roll A good amount of meat for 17 dollars. There are two big cuts of fish in each roll. I think this is maybe one of the better deals from the specialty rolls if you want to eat a lot of fish. Ramen The flavor is pretty ordinary. Everything was fresh, timely, and far better than any other Japanese food we have tried in Orinda. We will be putting it into the take out "rotation"! Please give them a shot and see for yourself. I'm extremely disappointed and will not go back. **Update 3/25** Came back for lunch today around noon and sat-in and ordered the cherry blossom roll and a lunch bento box (katsu, sashimi). The bento box ($22) is definitely a great deal, you get miso soup, salad (with nice dressing, not sure what it is but not the overly sweet thousand island that's served in a lot of sushi places), and two items from a good list of choices along with a scoop of rice & 2 gyozas. The sashimi pieces were large and fish was very fresh, the katsu was lightly coated and crispy. Cherry blossom roll was also good (tuna was very fresh), but portion wise I think it's a bit steep for the price. However, being in Orinda I think it's par for the course and quality wise it was above average. I did notice that they got rid of their to-go specials on the billboard, which is what I ordered from last time. All in all, happy I gave this place a second chance and will probably drop in from time to time to satisfy my sushi cravings. read more

Not impressed the chicken didn't taste good it had some seasoning that was overpowering and was really fatty cuts of meat. The teriyaki sauce was bland which I've never come across before. Pretty pricey for not being able to get double of something if you don't want certain menu items for the bento boxes (you get 3 items) but you can't get two of the same item ... which I also found odd because most places don't mind doing that.
