Came here during lunch on a Sunday. There was a wait but fortunately they had an open table for a two top. So we were seated right away. This place looked so bright and inviting, it made the dining experience more pleasant. The service was super fast and super efficient. They were kind and helpful, and sang happy birthday. The food was amazing. It tasted clean and fresh. For the amount of food we got , it was totally worth it. Will definitely go back!!!

Tried the lunch set at Tanoshi Japanese Food and was pleasantly surprised by how good the value is. The lunch set is only $14, and you can add another item for just $4, so you get a pretty filling meal without spending too much. I got the chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki. Everything tasted really fresh and was nicely prepared. The chicken katsu was definitely my favorite it was crispy on the outside, tender inside, and had great flavor. The salmon teriyaki was also tasty, although I thought the salmon portion was a little on the small side. The option to add another item for only $4 is a great deal too. Definitely a good spot for an affordable and satisfying Japanese lunch!

I went here with a friend on a weekday for lunch around 1 pm and we just had to wait a few minutes for at a table. The woman at the front was very friendly. It's a good size restaurant and it was full. They have a bento box lunch special which is only $14, this is what's drawing in the crowd and it's a great deal. I had wanted California roll and tempura, but they said I had to order one item from each side of the special menu, so I chose the salmon instead from the "protein" side instead of having the roll. So in other words no special requests folks, I imagine if they allowed it folks would try to order two proteins. The mixed tempura had just one shrimp but was very tasty. One thing I must say about this restaurant is the sound level is very loud, it was hard to have a conversation without raising our voices. If you're looking for a peaceful and calm place to eat this isn't it.

I've been to this spot a few times, and it's definitely become a local favorite! It's a great place for a dinner date, the atmosphere has a clean, stylish, and modern feel and a very well-maintained space. The menu has plenty of options for sushi lovers, but also caters to guests who aren't into sushi. They offer noodles and a variety of other dishes, so there's something for everyone. I always try something new when I visit, and so far, I've loved everything I've ordered. The service is another highlight. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive, and I never feel like it's a hassle to ask for extras or sides, which is something I really appreciate. There's also plenty of parking, which makes the experience even easier. I think the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food, atmosphere, and overall experience. I'll definitely keep coming back!

I love love this place and wished so much I lived closer. The food is consistent and it is cooked beautifully. Have more photos for proof! Kate, you're amazing and you're so nice!! Your husband has mad cooking skills, and everything is consistently well-cooked, and so impressive. The rice (how many hundreds of thousands of bowls have I had...) is perfectly cooked and especially delicious!! MACHISO!!! Come here if you enjoy Happiness = Japanese food! I've had various types of fish here, Kama, ramen, tempura, tonkatsu, salad---- Delivers---- wonderful business... the queues and the new added comfy benches outside are a complete testament to how well this business does--- it is thriving, and well deserved!

Beautiful, well-lit, spacious restaurant with fair pricing. Food is beautifully presented and plentiful. The set meals are a great price! Lots of options on the menu for cooked/raw/vegetarians. All the servers were very nice. Unfortunately the only thing i didnt rly like was my korean sashimi salad. That was the only thing i thought wasnt fairly priced for what it was considering how great everything else was. Its obviously majority leafy greens with 1/2 petite scoops of diced sashimi.

I've been here a few times! Plenty of parking, easy location to get to and the space has a decent amount of seating. Staff works really hard and food comes out quick. I'm not a sushi connoisseur but it tastes very fresh and at a decent price! Be prepared to wait about 20 minutes if you come during rush hour and don't have a reservation. They will call you and you need to pickup or else they do give the table away. Place can get quite loud but it is pretty clean and has separate rooms.

Lunch Menu Set: Tonkatsu and Nigiri $15

Bang for your buck! Food: Today I was at Tanoshi for lunch. I ordered the tonkatsu and nigiri set for $15, which is a great price for so much food. I had to-go. It comes with a good-sized tonkatsu, side salad, rice, and soup along with three pieces of nigiri. The tonkatsu was crunchy and meaty at the same time. The nigiri was fresh. Hubby ordered a lunch set with fish katsu and spicy tuna roll. Loved the tuna roll since it has a good kick to it. On the side, we ordered red dragon roll for $16. The fish was fresh. Service: Their service is good. Everyone is very kind. Ambiance: The restaurant is clean and spacious. Sitting is comfortable. They have a good number of booths with comfortable seating.

5/5! Came on Mother's Day so I expected a wait..I didn't want to sit at the bar, I chose to wait for a table. I was quoted 30 mins due to all the parties ahead of me, it was really 10 mins. The staff were all nice, super attentive. The restaurant was extremely clean! The moment I sat down I was greeted by my waitress which I loved! Now let's get to the food! I ordered a shrimp tempura roll for my appetizer and the chicken teriyaki as my main entree, and a lemonade for my beverage. Everything was a 10/10! I got full off my appetizer so I ended up eating a few bites of my entree and taking the rest home. All that food for literally that amazing price! I see why they were packed! I had this placed saved in my bookmarks and I will most definitely be back! I think I found a new favorite!

I went back to Tanoshi- I tried the O Toro, the Wagyu beef nigiri, the sake sashimi, and a couple of other items. Quite delicious. I received great service and enjoyed a pleasant atmosphere. (I recommend the Korean Soju as well, if you feel like an adult beverage). Great spot!

Staff was nice. The restaurant was clean and minimalist (which I loved). Food was good! I liked how the plate included the miso, and salad.

Quick service the last two times we've went and it's always very clean. The bus boys work hard and fast and honestly check on you more than the servers. That being said their pork ramen is great, alone with all their chicken. It's our new go to Japanese restaurant for the concord area.

Tanoshi Japanese Bistro is located in Citrus Center in the Valley area of Walnut Creek. It occupies the space previously home to Denica's Real Food Kitchen. My friend Steve and I checked out this spot on 07/18/2025. It was busy when we walked in at around 12:45pm. The wood-themed interior was stylish, bright, and clean. A couple TVs hung from the ceiling were showing different shows. We were seated in a booth away from the sushi bar. One of the servers brought us water and menus soon after. Their menu featured typical Japanese fare such as entrées, rolls, nigiris, etc. After some perusing, we decided to order a couple bento boxes. Prices were very reasonable. A 2-item bento box was $14 before T/T and a 3-item one was $18. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes. Both bento boxes came with miso soup, salad, pickled onions and daikon, and a couple orange slices. I had the 3-item one with tonkatsu, mixed tempura, and spicy tuna roll, and it was excellent! Everything tasted like they were freshly made. The tonkatsu had a nice crunch on the outside and the meat was moist and delicious. The tempura vegetables were all thickly cut and lightly battered. The spicy tuna roll had a great rice to filling ratio. I asked Steve about his food, and he told me he was very pleased with it. Service we received was very good. The staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. The comfortable setting, delicious food, great service, and fair price point...I think they covered it all! I will return. 5 stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - Ample parking on site.

We (4 of us) got seated right away for dinner at 6:35pm or so, but it took around 20 mins to be given water and to order our food. It seemed there were a lot of takeout orders and they were possibly short staffed since there was just one person packing the takeout orders and seating us / taking orders and bringing the food. After we ordered, we got our waters and it took another 30+ mins for the first couple dishes and even longer for the others. We were there for 2 hours! Ugh!!!! The food itself was good and portions were satisfactory as they were above average. A lot of izakaya a was above average, especially the wait time haha. We tried the following- Gobo chips- more of gobo tempura. It came with a mentaiko sauce which I really enjoyed. Pretty greasy and a lot more batter than I prefer with gobo chips. Gyoza- pretty standard, but good. A Special Roll- soft shell crab inside with avocado and salmon outside were the highlights. Few pieces, but decently sized. Pretty good roll overall. Ocha-zuke- Love these tea / dashi rice with pack of flavor and wasabi. Got both the salmon one and the spicy cod roe ones. Both were good. Love chazuke. Chicken karaage- says 5 pieces, and they were humongous! Tonkotsu ramen- didn't look so appealing, but was alright Bento box with chicken, mix tempura, California roll- he liked the box. I didn't try anything here. I'd come back if it was guaranteed that the food wouldn't take sooooo long. The person serving was nice and had great attitude. They def checked on regulars more often.

We had just placed our order when our daughter started crying because of her sleep regression. My husband took her outside to change her diaper, but she was still very upset. The two wonderful ladies who helped us were incredibly kind, patient, and understanding. I apologized for the inconvenience, but they immediately reassured me that it was completely okay. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine care are something I will never forget. My husband showed up around 11:35 am this morning for an early lunch today. I ordered a bento box with vegetable tempura and teriyaki beef with the sauce on the side. My husband ordered beef curry with a pork cutlet. When our food came, overall it looked great. I wish I took a picture of the food, but I didn't. I noticed that my beef teriyaki was cut into VERY thin slices and cooked in stripes of onion. I picked up a piece of beef and dipped it into the teriyaki sauce. The flavor was good, but the beef was WAY overcooked. Hindsight is 20/20. I should have said something to our server right away, but I didn't. Instead my husband traded some of his meal for my overcooked teriyaki beef. The rest of the food was delicious. I almost cleared the entire bento box (I didn't eat all of the rice). After we got our check, I did tell our server, Joshua, to tell the chef a that all of the food was delicious except for the teriyaki beef that was VERY overcooked. He said that he'd let the chef know. Our server, Joshua, was attentive, efficient, professional, and kind. His service was a 5/5. The dining room decor was nice like usual. I've always like the fish sculptures hanging above as well as the warrior sculptures on the shelves. I also appreciate the 80's music that playing, fun! It was a 5/5. We'll be back to dine again. This is and was never expected, but they go out of their way to do so and we are beyond appreciative of it. The picture attached shows the roll given to us during our most recent visit. We would attach more photos, but we were too busy eating our other rolls to bother taking photos. However, even if they didn't give us a free roll to try from time to time, our regard for this lovely restaurant wouldn't change. I highly recommend Sushi Momoyama to any and every local that is craving tasty sushi and a welcoming atmosphere.

Upon entering, you are given this amazing salad with dressing and Miso soup. We ordered the Ichiban Roll, Dynamite roll, Amigo roll, and the new chef's special Mamacita roll. While all were amazing, the Mamacita roll especially caught our eyes because of it's refreshing taste and lemon flavor. It is something new that I hope the staff keeps because it was truly divine. Each time we enter, they always try their best to attend all customers with such a polite manner. We've been coming here for almost 4 years and we never regret our choices. Due to our frequent visits, the staff even remembers us! It truly makes us feel recognized. Regardless, this place is always an amazing recommendation for the best sushi in Concord. If you ever have a chance, please give this place a try. I highly recommend their sushi options but the rest of their food is just as good!

I had a Pliny the Elder, which this location offers, but the Davis/Sac locations do not. A good start! Patio seating was perfect weather, and a relaxed atmosphere. For appetizers we started with Kaizen oysters, so he could experience West Coast oysters (very different than Gulf of Mexico oyster, which are huge and usually fried or BBQed) and Pepperfin. For our entree, we had the 911, Tasmanian and Rainbow rolls. All are delicious. I highly recommend the 911 roll. There is something amazing about the chili crisp, garlic and sesame oil topping. . Oh yeah, we ordered the 911 and Tasmanian rolls again.

Which is what we wanted for our daughter, but they said we'd need to order off the main menu for that. I'm sorry but our child is not going to eat a $28 meal of beef teriyaki. That was a bit disappointing. The atmosphere was your typical volume of noise. They sat us next to the separating wall and we noticed a layer of dust on the ledge as well as on the decorative wooden partition. Appears it hasn't been cleaned in years. So it was fine, nothing to rave about this time around.
