I've been here a few times! Plenty of parking, easy location to get to and the space has a decent amount of seating. Staff works really hard and food comes out quick. I'm not a sushi connoisseur but it tastes very fresh and at a decent price! Be prepared to wait about 20 minutes if you come during rush hour and don't have a reservation. They will call you and you need to pickup or else they do give the table away. Place can get quite loud but it is pretty clean and has separate rooms.

5/5! Came on Mother's Day so I expected a wait..I didn't want to sit at the bar, I chose to wait for a table. I was quoted 30 mins due to all the parties ahead of me, it was really 10 mins. The staff were all nice, super attentive. The restaurant was extremely clean! The moment I sat down I was greeted by my waitress which I loved! Now let's get to the food! I ordered a shrimp tempura roll for my appetizer and the chicken teriyaki as my main entree, and a lemonade for my beverage. Everything was a 10/10! I got full off my appetizer so I ended up eating a few bites of my entree and taking the rest home. All that food for literally that amazing price! I see why they were packed! I had this placed saved in my bookmarks and I will most definitely be back! I think I found a new favorite!

Quick service the last two times we've went and it's always very clean. The bus boys work hard and fast and honestly check on you more than the servers. That being said their pork ramen is great, alone with all their chicken. It's our new go to Japanese restaurant for the concord area.

We were looking for a lunch spot while in the Walnut Creek area and decided to try Tanoshi after seeing so many good reviews. We ordered a few rolls to share along with their lunch special, which included an entree, side, and soup. Everything was super delicious, and the lunch special was such a great deal for the amount of food you get. The ambience inside was really nice, and the restaurant itself is very spacious. The staff were also super friendly, and overall we had a great experience. I would definitely come back again to try more items on the menu.

I went back to Tanoshi- I tried the O Toro, the Wagyu beef nigiri, the sake sashimi, and a couple of other items. Quite delicious. I received great service and enjoyed a pleasant atmosphere. (I recommend the Korean Soju as well, if you feel like an adult beverage). Great spot!

The sushi rolls are around $3 less than any other sushi restaurant. Great deals for quality fish. The fish tastes pretty fresh and the rolls were flavored well. The service was great even though they were busy at dinner on a Saturday. It's a bit loud in the restaurant and you're quite close to the neighboring parties, but I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a solid sushi restaurant. It's not the best sushi/raw fish I've had but for the price it's really delicious and is my go-to in this area!!

Been hearing about this new spot out in Walnut Creek in the revitalized shopping center off Oak Grove. Plenty of parking, online reservations, and a nice new restaurant. We were seated quickly upon walking in for a late dinner. The place was pretty busy at 8pm. Large menu with lots of sushi rolls. We started with garlic edamame and gyoza. The edamame was the only disappointment... the sauce was good but the edamame was pale and looked like it was over boiled. Gyoza was deep fried crisp and tasty. I ordered the combo with tonkatsu and tempura. Others had the beef teriyaki entree and another combo. The prices at Tanoshi are very reasonable for what you get. Beef was tender and the teriyaki sauce was not too sweet. The tonkatsu and tempura were nicely fried. Presentation was nice. Aside from the miss with the edamame, the dinner was very good.

Came here with my girlfriend, we got here 15 min before closing and I was happy to have finally try this spot out. This restaurant has been on my eye waiting list and it turned out good. I like the modern Japanese dining look on the inside. Very clean and great service. Ika Sugtayaki is a whole grilled squid. Much different than calamari but still good. We both got 3 rolls: Dragon, Hurricane, and Salmon Skin. All were delicious. I'd come back if you want good sushi.

So good last weekend that we had to try again. Confirmed everything was as great as before. Even though they were super busy the service was still quick and efficient. We had mixed tempura this time and it was delightfully crunchy. We tried the katsu chicken and croquette this time and they were light and not heavy. The fried food here has a light touch and not greasy. Still a great choice!

    3-Item Tonkatsu Bento

Tanoshi Japanese Bistro is located in Citrus Center in the Valley area of Walnut Creek. It occupies the space previously home to Denica's Real Food Kitchen. My friend Steve and I checked out this spot on 07/18/2025. It was busy when we walked in at around 12:45pm. The wood-themed interior was stylish, bright, and clean. A couple TVs hung from the ceiling were showing different shows. We were seated in a booth away from the sushi bar. One of the servers brought us water and menus soon after. Their menu featured typical Japanese fare such as entrées, rolls, nigiris, etc. After some perusing, we decided to order a couple bento boxes. Prices were very reasonable. A 2-item bento box was $14 before T/T and a 3-item one was $18. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes. Both bento boxes came with miso soup, salad, pickled onions and daikon, and a couple orange slices. I had the 3-item one with tonkatsu, mixed tempura, and spicy tuna roll, and it was excellent! Everything tasted like they were freshly made. The tonkatsu had a nice crunch on the outside and the meat was moist and delicious. The tempura vegetables were all thickly cut and lightly battered. The spicy tuna roll had a great rice to filling ratio. I asked Steve about his food, and he told me he was very pleased with it. Service we received was very good. The staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. The comfortable setting, delicious food, great service, and fair price point...I think they covered it all! I will return. 5 stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - Ample parking on site.

Quick service. They really want to get you in and out. The server forget my roll and crab to were i was already done with my meal. Food is fresh, dining is pretty and modern. I would recommend that the servers write down the orders so they dont forget. I was done with my food, waiting for my soft she crab and they were asking me if I wanted the check already. They were quick to clean the table but not quick to deliver my 2nd order.

We (4 of us) got seated right away for dinner at 6:35pm or so, but it took around 20 mins to be given water and to order our food. After we ordered, we got our waters and it took another 30+ mins for the first couple dishes and even longer for the others. We were there for 2 hours! Ugh!!!! The food itself was good and portions were satisfactory as they were above average. A lot of izakaya a was above average, especially the wait time haha. We tried the following- Gobo chips- more of gobo tempura. It came with a mentaiko sauce which I really enjoyed. Pretty greasy and a lot more batter than I prefer with gobo chips. Gyoza- pretty standard, but good. A Special Roll- soft shell crab inside with avocado and salmon outside were the highlights. Few pieces, but decently sized. Pretty good roll overall. Ocha-zuke- Love these tea / dashi rice with pack of flavor and wasabi. Got both the salmon one and the spicy cod roe ones. Both were good. Love chazuke. Chicken karaage- says 5 pieces, and they were humongous! Tonkotsu ramen- didn't look so appealing, but was alright Bento box with chicken, mix tempura, California roll- he liked the box. I didn't try anything here. I'd come back if it was guaranteed that the food wouldn't take sooooo long. The person serving was nice and had great attitude. They def checked on regulars more often.

No welcome in or hello from staff, I was asked "pick up?" And said yes and provided my name. I was informed they were still preparing my order-GOOD. I would've been concerned if it was ready in less time. I handed my payment card to the host, she struggled with inserting the card into the square device, as well as holding the chip over the device as well. After about 3 minutes she figured it out. I was handed my receipt to fill out. She watched as I filled in the respected lines. I did not leave a tip - as it was a up order, and service thus far was not to par. I waited for my order... 8 minutes later it was ready. Before leaving I checked the bag, order correct, but lacking my preference of soy sauce. I asked the host for more she came back with ONE packet, and tossed it in the bag I was holding. I said out loud "oh just one?" Then asked the sushi chef if they had little to go containers for soy sauce and if I could get one of those. He said yes and instructed the host to fill one for me. She did, came out and handed it to me with what I interpreted was an annoyed look. I said thank you and left. Fascinating to say the least. I guess I was asking for too much. Sushi was decent. I know I tasted the sauce there, but I wish it was a tab bit more noticeable. Chicken Teriyaki and Tempura Lunch Combo: This is so much food for a lunch combo. I honestly was able to make two servings out of this. The edamame beans are a nice appetizer to start and the salad had a very delicious dressing. The teriyaki chicken was as expected and the sauce was not overtly sweet. The tempura was also fried to crispy perfection for me and they gave you ample amount of vegetables and two pieces of ebi shirmp. Overall, I had a good time here and I would love to come back again.

If you ever have a chance, please give this place a try. I highly recommend their sushi options but the rest of their food is just as good!

I came across another Yelper's review and decided to try out Okini Sushi, in Pleasant Hill. It's a few miles off the 680 freeway, located in a scenic neighborhood. I ordered a delicious crab meat salad topped with avocados and I ordered off of the Happy Hour menu, with an aloha roll, it is a crabmeat, cucumber roll salmon on top with seaweed salad decorating the top of the roll. I ordered the mini chirashi don, which was a perfect main dish with five large slices of sashimi over rice, seaweed salad and a couple of nice spices of tamagoyaki (rolled egg), plus miso soup and a side salad. Easy listening music plays in the background, the wait staff are very nice and polite. The family at the next table with two little kids were given cute children's sectioned plates with kids' chopsticks, which was very convenient for the four year old to use, however, the two year old wasn't big enough to use chopsticks. This was a perfectly delicious lunch, with enough leftovers for a later dinner meal. Do try out this restaurant if you're driving along in the East Bay on the very long 680 freeway, it's a detour of five miles in land. There is plenty of parking here, it's located next to a barbecue shop with sauces, which I'll need to check out afterwards.

The tables are not that close so you can have a private conversation. Our server was spot on, came back numerous times just to check on us. As for the food, we had the Titanic Roll. It was large and flavorful. It just had a little too much cucumber for me. 4/5. The Sushi lunch was reasonably priced, super fresh fish with decent sized slices. I truly loved the CA roll that came along with the Nigiri. One of the best CA rolls I've had in a long time. 5/5 It's a distance from our home but I know when we are on that side of the hill running errands on a Saturday, we will be coming back. 100% Recommended
