I ordered take out from DoorDash from this place tonight. The takeout boxes were COVERED in sauce, an over all mess. And then the kicker. I open up the topping for the Pho dish and the jalapeño had ACTUAL MOLD. We couldn't eat anything after seeing that. If someone didn't notice growing mold on a jalapeño god knows what else was missed. Sad thing is I have been to the place multiple times but this is the first time I ever got take out from them. NEVER again. Oh and I called the restaurant right away. They asked if I wanted exchange it for something else but I didn't want to after seeing the rotten food. They did not offer to speak the manager or ask if they could call me back. Yeah the gross boxes could have been the delivery people. But this jalapeño was absolutely rotten. It was sitting on top of everything else I was supposed to eat. If you follow correct procedures then explain a furry moldy jalapeño in my entree. I have never had service as bad as I did at Sake Bomb. Maybe it was a fluke, but I will not be back. It took 10 minutes after sitting down to get waters, and another 10 for our server to even take our drink order. Our food order wasn't taken until 45 minutes after we sat down. We were brought out more appetizers than we ordered. The food was great, but then after finishing eating, it took 45 minutes to get our bills paid for. The server had to come back 5 times to be reminded who had what food/drinks, and when we finally did get our checks, everything was on the wrong tab. In total, it took 2.5 hours to sit down, eat, and leave. I had to cancel plans for afterwards because of how long it took. Probably won't be coming back. read more

The food was good and the online app worked fairly well. The issue with the app was that we could only order sushi combos when we wanted to order individually. As a result we didn't order any. The rest of the order was ok and a little on the bland side. We chalked this up as Chinese food made at a Japanese restaurant. I've been here twice now both times w my mom. We both had nothing but great things to say about the food! Everything we've had has been awesome! It makes me want to go back and try more. The service has been a little slow both times. The food came out quickly, but I was finished w my appetizer before my Pepsi came. Same problem two times. I will admit that I am biased toward Sake Bomb because it is the closest sushi place to my house and I go there often. They consistently make good sushi, their other meals are also delicious and have huge portions, and they have fairly good drink specials during the week. The outside of the building does not look attractive, however, once you are inside the decor is very nice. They have a bar side and a restaurant side and I like that the bar side has both sports and Food Network playing on the tvs so my husband and I can both watch something. The service is usually good, although when they are crowded I have had a few bad experiences. They also recently raised their prices which was a little disappointing. read more

They're not like Sushi Ota in San Diego, but of course the bill hurts our wallet much less, too. We always went with the specialty rolls. My boyfriend was adventurous and ordered a Grilled beef roll from the appetizer menu. DONT! The rolls were way too loose, so after it's bitten pretty much everything falls out. My mate chose the spring rolls without shrimp (allergic) to start. They had chunks of seasoned pork and fresh vegetables. The peanut dipping sauce was thick and a good combo. I got the Suma & Fusion Rolls. The Suma was awesome. If you prefer cooked rolls, this would work for you. (I eat raw too) the Fusion roll (also cooked) was ok. I think if it wasn't fried, it would be great. The costing on the rolll distracted from the goodness inside. It was dark brown like it had cooked too long. If it had been cooked more like tempura it may have worked better for me. My mate ordered the Hurricane and another he can't recall (that didn't have shellfish). He reported they were both good. We ordered take out and found it difficult to choose sushi that was gluten free. We ended up ordering 4 sushi rolls and some Massaman (sp?) Vegetable Curry. The sushi was buy one, get one free which made for a nice price. It was pretty tasty too, though I don't much like the spicy mayo many sushi restaurants are using. The curry was delicious and loaded with veggies. The ginger dressing for the salad was very good. The customer service was outstanding, and we were greeted with smile. We were offered a seat while we looked over the menu and then given water while we waited for our order. The order came out super fast and we were on our way. For the sushi lovers out there, I recommend giving this place a try, but not if you are gluten free. read more

Sake Bomb has the best sushi I have found in this area. The dishes are standard Sushi dishes, but the execution is good. They have BOGO sushi rolls, and most of the entrees come with a soup/salad apetizer. The salad here is lackluster. The sushi rolls are pretty basic recipes with good execution. I've had the rainbow, sweet dragon, TNT, Poseidon, Max, and New York rolls. The fish is always firm (never old) and the sushi dishes are flavorful. The chirashi-don is huge. I can never finish it alone, and it came with a large variety of sushi. Their hot meals are tasty and big. Their pho, shrimp noodle soup, and hibachi are all great, and I can literally never finish it in one sitting. The service is reliably good. I've been here many times with at least 5 different waiters, and I've never had a sub-par experience. I give Sake Bomb a 5 star rating not because it is amazing, but because it trumps any other sushi restaurant I've found in the area (not including sushi in Raleigh). tl;dr: Sake Bomb is up to par. read more

I'm not sure if it is the time we go to this place but we seem to get the buy one second free special on their sushi rolls. So we get usually 4 rolls. We like the hurricane roll a lot, got it a few times in a row. I like that the sushi came at room temperature rather than cold. Also texture was good and soft. Recommend against the toro tuna- very chewy. The staff is friendly and polite - they were also nice to our little one-year old rascal. Listened in on a conversation with another staff member (older lady in the corner) who made another couple feel absolutely un-welcomed. Said couple arrived 30 minutes before actual closing time, although website clearly states that the restaurant closed at 10:30, so in reality 1 hour before closing if website is accurate. She was VERY aggressive in stating that the restaurant closed at 10:00. She repeated statement over an over, and guests ended up leaving, making the comment "let's just go somewhere else". I don't fault them at all. I would have done the same thing. Luckily, our meal was good. However, if this lady continues to be involved in this business, she will run it into the ground. Heard good things about this place. Finally got around to trying it. I have to say it was a total disappointment. I ordered salt and pepper prawns which turned out to be the most overpriced and underwhelming entree I've had in a very long time. What they described as" prawns" were actually just medium sized shrimp which were fried and totally void of any seasoning. At best they were semi warm. To make thing worse the shrimp were laid on top of some awful cold crunchy tasteless noodles. Bottom line this was a $20 dollar waste of money. When my server asked me about my meal she just said sorry and gave me the bill. A total lack of customer service skills. First time, last time. We tried this after reading about it in the paper & it didn't disappoint. Good food at a fair price. Service was friendly & knowledgable about the menu, and didn't get snobby when I asked some basic questions (I have only tried sushi a few other times). The name comes from the 'sushi bomb' drink. We tried one and my husband enjoyed it. I am not a beer drinker, so it didn't appeal to me. I did like the variety of martinis & how the worked saki into some of them. Saké Bomb is my Cheers. My husband and I frequent this place just about every two weeks. Their food is fresh and their service is great! Kurt, their bartender, really knows how to make great drinks. I have had just about everything on the menu and it has all been superb! Sake Bomb is a great place to have in the neighborhood; does justice to their sushi menu, and the other asian dishes (vietnamese, thai, chinese) are solid. Can you find better versions of each dish? Probably, but sometimes you want a panang curry, a pad kee mao and yellowtail hand rolls, all in the same meal. (Koumi is another great Durham place for this kind of thing, but Sake Bomb beats them in ambiance, hands down). The kitchen here is VERY gluten-free friendly, although this point isn't prominent on their menu. One person in our party is celiac; she planned to just have curry, and sushi without the soy sauce. When we discussed sushi recommendations with our waiter, we mentioned that she couldn't do tempura because wheat... and from that, he volunteered tamari (San-J, which is certified GF), offered to remove eel sauce from any roll, and had the chef make the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) with tamari as well. *WOW - the WORST customer service I've ever received by far - from the boss. The mediocre food doesn't help. can i give .25 stars? (only from the food being edible) Food: pad thai: the noodles are chewy and "melted," the sauce is so salty and slimy i've never been able to finish it various sushi rolls: almost all are fried/saucy concoctions that taste more like fair food. even the simple rolls with raw fish aren't fresh and are 80% rice (and are almost all upwards of $14, so the BOGO is rarely worth it) Customer Service: Dining in, I've never had great service, but the servers were at least decent people. Coworkers and I placed an order online using their delivery website. I immediately got an order confirmation email. After 1.5 hours of not hearing anything, I called and got put on with the initial worker's boss. He said their wifi was down, so they just received the order. He kept repeating it wasn't their fault and it "clearly states on the website that we only deliver to Duke's campus after 8PM;" however, the website says "* only delivery to Duke campus * and when pay by flex point and duke point will only delivery after 8PM." He was extremely rude and laughed at me (a lot) when I asked for a discount since he said it would be another 45 minutes (some of my coworkers will have left by then) until I got my order and that he was doing me a FAVOR. He said he didn't have to be doing this for me, and if I didn't want it My card was already charged! I've given Sake Bomb a few chances because they do deliver to Duke's campus and they have BOGO free rolls dining in, but this response was ridiculous. I hope no one has to deal with this management. When I moved to Durham in 2015, I was fortunate to live very close to Sake Bomb. They quickly won my heart with BOGO rolls, consistently good food, and quality fish. Even after I moved much further away, I still tried to visit every week, sitting at the bar, where the waitress memorized my order and preferences (e.g. no straw). During Covid, this is the one restaurant I still frequent weekly, driving 40 min round trip for curbside pickup. If you have a sushi craving, this is the place!! Well, we finally got out to Sake Bomb for lunch, and we had a much better experience this time in spite of getting my order wrong. I ordered the Sashimi Mori from the lunch menu but they actually brought me the Sashimi Regular from the dinner menu. It was $3 more but had 3 additional pieces of sashimi so I didn't make a fuss about it. It came with a bowl of rice, a salad with ginger dressing, and a small clump of seaweed salad on the plate. There were also thin slivers of cucumber with each grouping of sashimi and another small salad (with some vinegar based dressing). It was all absolutely delicious. I pretty much cleaned my plate. My friend ordered a couple of specialty rolls that had all kinds of stuff crammed into them and he raved about it. The presentation was well done. The service was great. The atmosphere was inviting. My company had won an award and decided to have a celebratory dinner here for about 25-30 people and it was one of the best meals of my life! They started us off with some appetizers we had two kinds of dumplings (pork and veggie) that were both so tasty---edemame and crab rangoons (yum) then each table got a massive sushi boat---we lucked out that some people didn't come (their loss) so we had some extra food---but then we had entrees brought out for the tables---plates of pad Thai, Mongolian beef (amazing) and a chicken dish with rice---we were all so full we had to take dessert home---highly recommend!
