Popped by here while in Lufkin, Tx visiting a friend because I was craving sushi and saki this Saturday afternoon. This a a very cute and comfy location located in the shopping district on Tulane ave. and the freeway. Waitstaff was very accommodating and friendly, however the sushi was very very average, if not slightly below, at least measured by the nigiri that I ordered. Hey, I won't judge them too harshly I suppose because Lufkin is landlocked and not exactly where one would expect to have access to very fresh sushi in Texas, as compared to Houston. If your are a roll lover, and not favoring nigiri or sashimi, this may be your spot. I found the free sample piece of the DiDi roll , which had cream cheese, crawfish tail, and imitation crab to be the best bite out of my meal. I ordered hamachi nigiri, tako nigiri, and 1 spicy tuna hadroll, along with an order of calamari, and the calamari was probably the worst I ever had at any restaurant and it was fried, with what seemed to be an onion ring batter. I still gave it 3 stars because of service, location, and very good hot saki and that frees DiDi sample. read more

We were greeted right away and seated promptly. The restaurant interior felt a little dated, but it was clean and spacious. It was quite busy during our visit, and we kept hearing staff apologize for delays, but we decided to order anyway. For our first round, we ordered edamame, soup, and a few rolls. The soup arrived first -- it was okay but lacked flavor, and unfortunately, they didn't have white pepper when we asked. The avocado roll came next; it was fresh and tasted good. The California roll followed and was also fresh, though it tasted almost identical to the avocado roll. Next, we tried the soft-shell crab roll. It looked great but had a very fishy taste and an unusual amount of lettuce inside, which felt a bit off. We also ordered a chicken tempura roll, which took about 15 minutes to arrive. It was hot and freshly made, but honestly, a little underwhelming in flavor. On the positive side, our server was quick, polite, and attentive throughout the meal. The food was very affordable and filling, which was a nice surprise. Overall, it was a decent experience, but we'll probably check out some other sushi spots in town before returning. read more

We have been back several times since my April 24 review. The place has improved. It is nice to come in a Andy knows what roll I want before I even sit down. His dedication to his craft shows in his presentations. I request he makes my rolls. While the young gentlemen that work for him do a fine job on other rolls. My roll seems to give them trouble. It consists of Tempura Chicken, Cream Cheese, Avocado, wrapped in Rice and Nori topped with Beef strips and lots of Eel Sauce and Wasabi. If you want a roll but are not a fan of seafood rolls ask for this one. It is awesome! read more

We love Sake! Whether take-out or dine in, the service is almost always superb. I highly recommend the gyoza and Didi roll!

The ambiance wasn't necessarily anything special, but it was clean inside. Out waiter was so nice and great at recommending menu favorites as it was our first time dining at Sake cafe. Also once we sat down we actually got to try 2 pieces of the Didi roll on the house which I thought was so nice. We ordered the Gyoza which was solid 4/5, the Tulane roll which was really good 4.5/5, and the Snow Crab Naruto roll that I felt had too much filling in my opinion 3/5. The rolls were huge though, so definitely a good bang for your buck and some of the best sushi I've tried in Lufkin. I recommend and will definitely be back! read more

My family and I have been coming here for 14 years. We're always welcomed by the staff and the food is to die for! The food is always fresh. If you do not eat sashimi, I recommend the Rocky 2 roll, spicy girl roll, and the Tulane roll. We've never had to return anything! It's such a great family friendly place. The food was terrible. We did get a sweet potato roll that was amazing and the free appetizer sushi was good. We got bento boxes and the chicken was literally boiled chicken with like great value teriyaki..it had no flavor and the fried rice was terrible. The roll that comes with the bento box was so chewy and nasty. However, their fried dumplings were okay. Service wasn't the best either. Once we got food we never saw him again. read more

This place is a good place to get sushi. I would avoid salads and the Chinese dishes. I have not had any type of sushi that wasn't good.

Pam is our go to server now. Even when dealing with rude and obnoxious guests she never lost her cool or missed a beat with our service. We never had to ask for a refill and she asked us what sauces we needed without prompting. We definitely left feeling full and feeling well taken care of. Very good food and fast service. Clean and modern interior. Lots of choices for sushi and you can watch them make it if you sit at the bar.

Sat there for 22 minutes arrived at 8:30 an hour and a half before they close and they didn't even ask us for our drink order

There was no reason we should have waited over 30 minutes. While other ppl received their appetizers and food before us. Ppl where walking in getting food and when I finally asked another waitress who finally brought our appetizer (salad) after 30+ minutes the manager didn't even come over. I had to go to her. She proceeds to say the sushi roll takes a long time. No maam. We order this all the time. I could have cooked a 5 course meal in this time. Our waitress glanced over at us, after she is made aware of the problem, proceeds to walk passed our table and serve another table who came in after us. RIDICULOUS! read more

First time trying sushi and I wasn't disappointed! The service was great and the food was tasty! I really liked the house appetizer it was very tasty! I also got teriyaki chicken with a bento box and it came with two potstickers, pineapple, Cali rolls, fried rice and veggies. It is a small town and like everyone else on Yelp seems to repeat... it's pretty good overall! The staff and chefs were so friendly and accommodating. I ordered the sushi deluxe. They chef said the salmon (belly) was fresh and very good today. He didn't steer me wrong - it was awesome! It just melted in my mouth. He even let me substitute it for the tuna. Sake Cafe is consistently good, one of the best of Lufkin! I'm a big fan of their spicy tuna and California rolls, wife loves the salmon roll, and we both really love the snow crab naruto, she likes a seaweed salad on the side, and I just want more spicy tuna roll. Great food, good prices, definitely makes the list of our favorite restaurants. read more
