Pretty cool set up. We sat at the tables on the wall where it's more traditional which was really nice. We got the sampler for two and it was okay, nothing too crazy. I liked that they had more vegetarian options and I really liked the sushi. I also tried my friend's margarita and not only it was good but really strong as it should be. Good sushi for suburban PA. They have a reasonable selection of sake. The service has been good the two times I have been to Sake Hana. Their pork and shrimp buns are good and very filling. Very disappointed! I've been here at least two other times and continue to think the next time will be better. When will I learn! Just had appetizers and calamari. I'd say about 2.5 stars. We were here the end of November. I wouldn't make an effort to return, but that doesn't mean I want them to fail either (it wasn't that bad). I thought some of the rolls were decent, and some were pretty meh (very mayonnaise-y). Some of the other appetizers were probably better than the sushi. Service was ok, but huge pet peeve of mine... the waitress took it upon herself to fill our glasses of wine very full and she emptied the bottle on the first go round (there were only 4 of us). She also couldn't judge very well and filled one glass very full and the others less so... very silly. Would prefer if they just put one finger full in the bottom of everyone's glass, and leave it at that... (or, if it's a really nice restaurant, they may keep returning and refilling glasses to 1-2 finger level). The manager was very earnest seeming. Decor is ok; kind of wanna-be hip; blue lighting (but this is a sushi place in a strip mall in semi-rural PA that we're talking about here...). read more

The only thing shocking about this place is that it is located in avondale, pa. This place is so good they have like 4 or 5 sushi chefs working on tuesday nights. We get sushi, kids get chicken teriyaki, everyone is happy. I wouldn't say it is cheap, and it's not always the fastest of places, but you can not complain at this place. One of the best Sushi places in the area. My wife and I started going here shortly after it opened and we have never been disappointed. Their sushi has always tasted very fresh, full of flavor, and prepared beautifully. I have also recently become a huge fan of their Drunken Noodle dish. Very flavorful and not greasy at all. The seasoning that they use for their spices also has a fresh flavor and the levels are pretty consistent each time you order. We also found that our 3 year old daughter is a huge fan as well. Their fried rice is amazing. The chicken that they put in there is also very fresh and the dish itself is not greasy like some that you get from other Asian restaurants. We have also had great experiences with their waiting staff. Everyone has been very pleasant, attentive, and made our dining experience very enjoyable! read more

I've reviewed this restaurant before, years ago. They've updated their menu and I'm updating my review. A recent report that they failed their health inspection has not deterred my love of this place. The infractions were minor and weren't things that would affect the quality or care of food served to customers. The atmosphere is fine - although they could use a little brighter lighting. The bar is great. The drinks are of good quality and selection. And the sushi remains the best in the area. The only objection I have is that their rolls are a dollar or two more expensive than their close competition... But then, I also find them superior and that may be the quality of ingredients. Hard to beat in Avondale. It's got great ambiance, service, and the food is good. The sushi is made fresh and they have all the usual suspects with plenty of twists for local options. They have significantly more than just sushi and it's all good quality. As a bonus, they also have a few outside seats when the weather is nice. read more

The food is awesome, and the wait staff are very nice, but the bartenders are extremely rude. They curse loudly at the wait staff and do it whether they have a full bar or not, and it is so loud that you can hear them throughout the entire restaurant. If you are sitting at the bar in the daytime, the hostesses serve you, and if you are still there when the pm bartenders show up, the bartender will completely ignore you. The restaurant seems so be lacking any sort of management or continuity and seems disorganized. Luckily the food and wait staff are so good because that is what keeps me going back. They have the potential (and the prices) of a fancy restaurant, but the way the place is run, and the way the employees look and act, it is just a casual restaurant with a big price tag. read more

I have eaten here many times. Their special rolls are the best around. I love the Mango Tango and the Double Happiness. So many to choose from and I have never been disappointed. My kids 8 and 10 love the bento boxes off the kids menu. There are several choices even for my picky eater. It is also one of their favorite places to eat. Win, win. read more

Very good food and nice decor. But a bit expensive. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food. The bar drinks are expensive. I liked the wonton soup. The noodles were thin and they had the enoki mushrooms which added a nice unique touch. First time visiting, went early evening on a Monday. I would expect service to be slow on a traditionally slow restaurant night, however, Chris, our server, was perfect in timing. Initially my wife couldn't decide on a drink so he suggested more time. He came back in a decent amount of time and then our drinks arrived in good time. Throughout the dining experience he was attentive, but not rushing. For the food, very good. Wife had the Pork Gyoza which was fresh, very good flavor and pan fried excellently. I had the Jalapeño Poppers with Spicy Tuna which was excellently prepared, creative and wonderful flavor. For entrees I had the Drunken Noodles with a heat level of 8. I always find it challenging when order Asian food extra spicy, because 95% of the time I end up adding more chilies. I found the heat level of 8 good, next time will probably go to a 9. The preparation and flavor was exceptional. My wife wanted Sesame Chicken, (not very adventurous) which was not on the menu. However the menu states if you don't see something, ask and they'll make it. I'm guessing no one told the servers this as our server kept saying it wasn't on the menu and suggest she have the General Tso's Chicken. I knew she would like it as I made it several time for her at home, so I didn't argue the point of the menu statement. She ordered it with 0 heat level which she was very happy with. Overall, good service, excellent food, although I did notice that there might be a little negative interaction between the server(s) and the Sushi Chefs. My wife's Gyoza came out from the kitchen first. Our server told me that my Poppers would be out soon. He then went over to the Sushi Chefs to inquire and one of them said "it's coming, it's coming" and then made a comment to one of the other chefs with a laugh. I they have an issue between each other fine, but don't make a customer wait because of the issue. I could be wrong and misinterpreted it, but I pretty sure the poppers were prepped prior and the cooking time was less than for the Gyoza, so the poppers should have been come out first. read more

In our first experience with this restaurant, the owner would not let us sit at a larger table. Two of us were jammed in a tiny 2 top. He said the other section was closed. It was 8-10 steps away. It also was Saturday early and we were the only ones in the restaurant! Like this was some sort of big deal to him, instead of saying, "Absolutely, wherever you are comfortable, Paying Customer!" So we did not come back for over 2 years. Despite the dopey owner, I decided to go for happy hour one day. The bar had a special $4 for salmon avocado, spicy tuna, as well as $3 California rolls. These are basic sushi rolls, but they did not skimp on size at all. I've been to many sushi places and these cuts of fish are very, very good quality. We've been back several times since that time. So this owner is making money on us, despite his idiotic customer service. read more

We recently moved to the Philadelphia area but prefer to make the hour trip back to Southern Chester County for what we believe is the best sushi around! They have a huge menu and their rolls are larger than your average sushi joint. Don't let the strip mall or the mushroom smell fool you- Sake Hana has a very modern/trendy atmosphere and can even accommodate large parties in their own private room. read more

The place has a fun vibe... Until you are served by a rude person! I went to this place on Thursday night to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday. There were four of us. The waitress came to verify her order but said it incorrectly, so we restated/re-clarified what we were supposed to get. The server rudely said, "I heard you," to our birthday celebrant -how rude! She forgot to bring 2 out of 4 rolls and tried to say didn't bring it out together because the other 2 were appetizers (it was clearly ordered from the same category). Also the salmon sashimi was brought out warm! Yuck! read more

Great food no doubt, but if you order take out CHECK it before you leave. On multiple occasions something was either wrong or missing from the order. Most recently, I ordered Tempura Udon with Shrimp and vegetable and received no shrimp and no tempura...just broth, a few pieces of broccoli and noodles...for $15!!!
