Sake Hana is hands down the BEST sushi place I have ever been to. It was recommended to me by a friend, and ever since it was my go-to place for sushi. Recently I moved to another state, and everytime I find myself in Avondale I make an effort to order food at Sake Hana. It is fresh EVERY single time, all the rolls are so good that you could literally pick one with your eyes closed and know that it will taste great. Me and my husband always order the golden bags (the most amazingly crunchy and flavorful cheese wontons your taste buds will ever meet) and get a couple rolls. Outstanding. Every. Time. My husband and I have ordered take-out from here a number of times. The avocado salad is a bed of greens topped with sluces of avocado and ginger dressing. It's ok for $7. The Pad Thai is typical, what you would expect. And Pad See we is kind of bland with very mushy noodles. I don't like sushi so I can't comment on that. The other meals are what you'd expect from most Asian style restaurants. Nothing to write home about. read more

Went here for a nice romantic meal and had to deal with men at the bar rudely and loudly watching a baseball game on the television. They were quite disruptive so we left. I expect that at a pub or biker bar but not a fine dining restaurant. We came back a couple of times for dinner and had to deal with the same thing so we left. We ordered dinner through takeout a few times and they had pretty good sushi, but they always seem to mess up our orders. It's really not worth it. Lilys in Kennett is better; go there. read more

Best sushi in the area. We will never go back to Okura, Kyoto or Padi. My husband and I have brought several other couples over the past 6 months and they all feel the same way! Lots of options of specialty rolls on the menu. Some of our favorites are Land and Sea, Sake Hana, Supreme Tuna, Rock and Roll and Spicy Mama. Thai Basil Stir Fry with Chicken is awesome. I'm not a fan of the Amazing Shrimp, too sweet for me. Atmosphere is cool with all the changing colors of lights. It definitely doesn't feel like you're in Avondale! My first time here on a recommendation. AMAZING! My waitress Hailey was great and did not rush anything. She was completely familiar with the menu and recommended an excellent adult beverage - Lemon Drop Martini. I tried the following from the menu: Pork Gyoza, French Beauty roll, London Grove roll, and the Exotic Bomba for dessert. Every course was delectable and wonderfully presented. The London Grove roll had the perfect amount of mild heat for someone who is not fond of spicy foods. The Gyoza was delicate and served at the perfect temperature. The Bomba was a delightful blend of gelato flavors. I look forward to my next visit! read more

We ordered take-out during the time of Covid-19. It is possible that the restaurant was having difficulty getting some ingredients, or keeping chefs, but: Pork gyoza, a favorite of ours, were much greasier than usual. "Cashew Lover" was only middling, according to my husband. My Lobster and Shrimp Fried Rice lacked the snow peas that were supposed to be in the dish, and the lobster and shrimp were tough from over-cooking or overly high temperatures. We have loved the drinks and food here in the past and hope there is a return to excellent food. read more

I purchased the avocado and cucumber roll and the vegetable tempura. I waited 30 minutes for my food before calling to ask if my order was ready, because they had told me they would call. I never received a call. Secondly the tempura batter was soggy,thick, and not crisp like it should be. I enjoyed my sushi roll but would advise against purchasing any tempura. read more

First off, don't judge this book by its cover. Seemingly nothing special, tucked away in in a strip mall, this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous inside. Perfectly decorated, clean and precisely what I envision when I want a Japanese dining experience. We ordered a shrimp tempura roll and a Philly roll and both were delicious and fresh. The real star of the show was the mango roll, which was the perfect medley of flavors and textures. Such an explosion of deliciousness! We went to Sake Hana's tonight. The food was very good. The service was absolutely terrible. It took 30 minutes to get our drinks, 15 more to get our appetizers. We finally recieved our food an hour and forty minutes after we sat down. Also, carrying a martini with your hands wrapped around the top was also a turn off, I am hardly a germ freak, but drinking from a glass that had someones hands around it is a bit disgusting. Went back again and food was really good. The staff is something to be improved on though. Seems they are short on help and throughout dinner. All the tables were left with dirty finished plates that no one cleaned up- all next to our table so it was a little gross to eat around. Our waitress was also the bartender and she seemed more interested in serving the bar than us. We actually saw one waiter take dishes off one table and just place them on another dirty table, then seated a couple at the cleared table which he didn't bother to wipe off. I felt so bad for the couple as they had no idea. Please someone help the serving staff. They clearly need help and guidance. Itll be a while before I go back again at this point. read more

Ok this is our new favorite sushi place in the area! We have tried at least 4 different sushi places since moving to northern DE and this is the best. Generous portions, and even creative vegetarian sushi, yay!! We got the lunch special and it was amazing. Husband got spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spice whitetail, and loved them all. They were very full pieces of sushi, unlike some other places we've been that are mostly rice with just a little meat. I got the paradise roll and sweet potato tempura roll and was beyond impressed with both! Also wonderful service and nice interior. read more

My family and I have eaten here twice and love the super tasty sushi and sashimi. The decor is trendy and modern and they have great miso soup and edamame. Our server the first visit was very friendly and knowledgable but on the second visit our waiter just seemed to be going through the motions. The appetizers are pretty so-so. As good as the sushi is, about 15 hours after both our meals one person (not the same one each time thankfully) got sick and nauseous after we ate here. Seeing that this happened after both visits I can't see going back a third time. And when I mentioned this to a friend who lives locally, she told me that the restaurant is under new ownership and she had five friends who got sick after eating there in recent months. read more

We are sushi snobs and have eaten in some of the best rated sushi restaraunts around the US (NY, Vegas, Baltimore, Toronto, Chicago). This place is right up there. It has some of the best sushi I have ever had. Rice is perfect, Ingrediants are very fresh. It is good enough that it is starting to attract patrons from further away which creates a good crowd on weekend nights. They did expand into the shop next door so they have more tables but expect a wait on Sat night at 7pm. They seem to have problems with holding on to staff. There is a lot of turnover. THe manager/owner seems stern and might be a bit much for some staff but he very responsive to customers. The atmosphere is a little odd for the location (strip mall near mushrrom farms and horse farms) with its trendy lighting and dark furniture. If you are stumped on the menu try a Sake Hana roll and a Mango Tango roll with a iced glass of Diamond sake. Oh and try the calamari app.... it is great. read more

Last night I went for the third time and had the best experience yet. I'm not super into raw sushi and I absolutely love how they separate the menu between "raw" and "cooked." Sometimes I avoid sushi because I'm not sure what I'm really getting, but here that's not the case and I love it. I had the double happiness roll last night- delish. I've also has the general tsaos chicken which was amazing, too. Last night my server, Melissa, was excellent and lovely. Wow!!!!! This place does not disappoint! My friend and I were looking for some yummy sushi after visiting VaLa vineyards and we stumbled on this gem. At first it looked a little shady, the front is VERY unassuming, but as you walk in it looks like a place in the city! Super cute and sheik! The food was friggin EXCELLENT!!!! The soup was delicious, the veggie Gyoza was perfect and the rolls were put of this world!!!! I had the avocado roll and the ( jeez, I forget the name of it) but it was the roll with shrimp tempura and steak( filet) on top. Outstanding! The prices are right and I was impressed. My only complaint is that I live 40 minutes away, haha:) I hope they open one in Newtown square! A girl can dream, right?! read more

I believe I'm now a regular now stopping by a few times a week if I'm in town. The sushi has been incredibly fresh and fast! Jen is the best bartender of any local place that I'm aware of. This place is nice, but not my favorite. The atmosphere is weird, the colored lights on the ceiling and behind the sushi bar are not my idea of great lighting and are actually really distracting. Service isn't great. The first time I came in I ordered the sushi lunch entree or sushi dinner entree, can't remember how late it was. What came out was really beautiful, piled high with all kinds of fantastic fish; because it was the sushi boat special for two. And I paid for it. The second time I came in I waited two whole hours (a friend timed it) for food beyond edamame and it took my friend complaining to get two drinks comped. When it came out though, everything was delicious. I know a lot of people that really like this place, so I'm willing to give it another chance, and I have been since then and had nothing wrong, but nothing spectacular enough to make me forget the first two times. For me, this place is hit or miss, and would never be my choice on Friday night. read more
